[Bug 1456285] Re: Intel 7260 problems on Thinkpad T440s

2015-05-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Tim Hunter, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel
3.19 to 4.1-rc4 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1457429] [NEW] Failure to mount lz4 compressed squashfs because 4.2 is outdated

2015-05-21 Thread Grizzly
Public bug reported:

On Fedora 21, I can generate lz4 compressed squashfses.
As vivid only includes squashfs tools 4.2, those archives cannot be mounted
under ubuntu.

Even when I am on kernel 3.19 (that SHOULD support mounting them), it is
also not possible to create lz4 archives (like on my lts + vivid-kernel
box).

Suggest updating squashfs-tools at least in trusty and vivid or
providing a ppa.

  Hi,
after updating Samsung SSD 840 EVO to the latest firmware (EXT0DB6Q) the
fstream command doesn't work anymore. Besides, there are a lot of file system
errors and "bad sectors" reports. The problem is certainly caused by Samsung's
firmware but I reported it as a bug because in Windows TRIM works normally
after the upgrade. I have attached an image uploaded by a user who is
experiencing the same problem. If you execute the command "sudo fstrim /" the
console gets stuck. If you add that command in rc.local the boot is
compromised. I really hope this problem could be solved.
  Thanks

** Description changed:

This laptop came factory preinstalled with Ubuntu 14.04, but it had and
still has way too many problems.

I have now kernel 3.16.0-37-generic running. The wireless driver is wl,
installed from bcmwl-kernel-source. I have wireless working at 5GHz with
good speed, everything well. However, I can't connect to wireless on
  2.4GHz.

Before I had kernel 3.13.0-52-generic, which had the same problem. I
tried kernel 4.1.0-rc2 and rc3, but both failed on installing from
  bcmwl-kernel-source.

Trying "iwlist wlan0 freq" I get a list of channels 1-14 at 2.4GHz, and
32-66 at 5GHz. Still, only the 5GHz works. Other devices in my house do
connect well to the 2.4GHz (from a Fritzbox router).

[Bug 1456596] Re: DELL XPS 13 (9343) Strange, seemingly perpetual repeat of drm activity

2015-05-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
ullix, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.19
to 4.1-rc4 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Also, you would have to uninstall the bcmwl module for the duration of
the bisect so proprietary module errors are avoided.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1456770] Re: [System76, Inc. Gazelle Professional] suspend/resume failure

2015-05-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Akshay Bhat, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1457369] Re: kernel 3.19.0-18 breaks HDMI audio for snd_hda_intel

2015-05-21 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Maarten Fonville, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

[Bug 1457412] Re: package nginx-common 1.6.2-5ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2015-05-21 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Based on your error message, this looks like an issue caused by your
webmin installation and seems unlikely to me to be a bug in nginx
packaging. Since webmin does not ship with Ubuntu, this is unlikely to
be a bug in Ubuntu.

So since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration
problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as
Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1454699] Re: Vivid update to 3.19.7 stable release

2015-05-21 Thread Luis Henriques
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Florian. I will follow up
on this issue (both for vivid update to 3.19.7 and utopic update to
3.16.7-ckt11, bug #1454202). The commit that introduced the issue was
upstream 47d68979cc96 ("md/raid0: fix bug with chunksize not a power of
2.").

Unfortunately, the fix
(http://git.neil.brown.name/?p=md.git;a=commitdiff;h=a81157768a00e8cf8a7b43b5ea5cac931262374f)
isn't currently in Linus' tree yet, so we will likely drop commit
47d68979cc96 from both vivid and utopic.

Again, thanks a lot!

2015-05-21 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your report.

This looks like a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in
Ubuntu. Specifically, it looks like you have deleted /etc/mysql/my.cnf
manually, so MySQL cannot be expected to work. Try purging all MySQL-
related packages and then re-installing them.

If this still doesn't work, you can find pointers to get help for this
sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Since we use this bug tracker to track bugs in Ubuntu, rather than
configuration problems, I'm marking this bug as Invalid. This helps us
to focus on fixing bugs in Ubuntu.

If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful

[Bug 1457269] Re: snmptrapd forwarding twice every received trap

2015-05-21 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

This sounds unlikely to be a packaging bug to me. Perhaps it is an
upstream bug that has since been fixed, or needs reporting upstream?

I think appropriate next steps would be to attempt to reproduce this
with the latest upstream version as well as the version in Ubuntu but
compiled directly from upstream source. It may need filing upstream as
appropriate.

Marking Importance: Low as this affects only unusual system
configurations.

[Bug 1457438] [NEW] files not shown when known to exist

2015-05-21 Thread Stuart Gillies
Public bug reported:

When using dia I saved some .png images, as I had done before with the
same names. Going to nautilus in order to select those images, I find
that they are not listed, yet the dia save dialogue does show them.
Reloading did not find them. See attached screenshot, which shows both
the nautilus window after a reload and the dia dialogue.

Later, opening a new nautilus window did find the files.

So, why did they not show when I first looked? I have observed this
problem before but did not keep records. This time I thought it
worthwhile.

Files are:
timetrial_duties2.png
regatta_duties2.png

I'm using a fully up-to-date 14.04 on an AMD 64 motherboard and Dia-
gnome 0.97.2

[Bug 1457411] Re: Nautilus shows all of the files in / even for normal users

2015-05-21 Thread Imri Paloja
@Sebastian

Here is the upstream bug:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749677

** Description changed:

+ Upstream Bug Report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=749677
+
Right now if you go to `/` you would still see all of the files there.
If your logged in as root, I can understand that, but as a normal users,
its just an invitation for some users to go around and possibly break
  things.

  Currently users see this:

  bin
  boot
  cdrom
  dev
  etc
  home
  initrd.img
  initrd.img.old
  lib
  lib32
  lib64
  lost+found
  media
  mnt
  opt
  proc
  root
  run
  sbin
  srv
  sys
  tmp
  usr
  var
  vmlinuz
  vmlinuz.old

By some minor tweaking one could turn that into this:

  home
  tmp

That can be achieved by adding a file in the root folder `/.hidden` with
  the following content:

  bin
  boot
  cdrom
  dev
  etc
  home
  initrd.img
  initrd.img.old
  lib
  lib32
  lib64
  lost+found
  media
  mnt
  opt
  proc
  root
  run
  sbin
  srv
  sys
  usr
  var
  vmlinuz
  vmlinuz.old

Every file you put in - that’s in the same directory as the file itself
  - will be hidden.

Now, I also hide the home folder, made a link of my $username folder,
and paste that in the root dir /. I also made a Applications folder with
desktop files in them. We could link it to /usr/share/applications/. But
the icons are not active for some reason? I copied the .desktop files to
a folder in my home dir, and activated that, We could do something like
  that?

I think that this is how all the `/` folders should look like for normal
  users in the future:

  Applications
  $username
  tmp

  screenshot

  This is just an idea.

I wrote about this years ago:

Fix tested and confirmed in Ubuntu 12.04 Precise.

Before, I reproducibly ran into this bug when saving a data: URL from a
Firefox-based webapp to a local file using the normal Firefox download
dialog.

I installed the Precise update from the normal Precise update package
repositories.

I save now, and I do not see the 100% CPU usage anymore. Bug fixed.

Thanks a lot to Ross Lagerwall,Tomas Bzate, Alexander Larsson, Ondrej
Holy (all GNOME ),
Monsta, Marc Deslauriers (here) and everybody else involved!

[Bug 1447944] Re: Cannot access mariadb after upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04: Plugin 'unix_socket' is not loaded

2015-05-21 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
Without the update-alternatives system debconf would automatically
notify the user that the config is changed, and then ask if the user
wants to keep their file, install the packager version or view a diff of
the changes. It would be nice if that user experience would be present
here.

At least we've seen that people don't read the first lines in the
my.cnf.migrated even though the solution is there.

Maybe the simplest solution would be for the update-alternatives wrapper
to emit a debconf screen which notifies what it was automatically done
to the config file.

The point of decoupling the config files was to allow variants to have
their own config options. That does not work in reality if variants
cannot have reasonable trust that their config file is actually active.

2015-05-21 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
This bug has gotten worse in Ubuntu 15.04

More often than not, I cannot successfully launch Freemind without
having to kill the java process several times.

It goes like this:

1) Try to launch freemind
2) Freemind locks up while trying to launch
3) Kill the java process that is locked up
4) Go back to step 1.

I have to repeat these steps 3 to 5 times before I can successfully
launch freemind.

Agreed.

Should this be in the wrapper, or in the one-time migration code in
mysql-common when my.cnf.migrated is generated? I'm happy with the
latter, especially as you point out a regular conffile prompt would
happen anyway. I'm concerned about "too many debconf prompts" for the
former.

We could additionally provide the notice on mysql-common.postinst every
time that my.cnf.migrated is present and active, perhaps filtered by
version. This might help users who have upgraded already.
