[Bug 1374989] Re: When saving in 14.10 msgfmt: error while opening "" for reading: No such file or directory

2014-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Well, I have not (yet) bothered to learn how to use virtualbox, so that
test will have to wait.

My newly installed 14.10 (with the keyboard issue) is 64 bit, while the
older 14.10 is 32 bit. That might have something to do with it, of
course...

Anyway, I noticed that previous Ubuntu versions of poedit were rebuilt,
so I built version 1.5.4-3 in my PPA.

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/misc

It did not solve my keyboard issue, but you may want to try it to check
if it makes a difference as regards your saving issue.

[Bug 1327797] Re: BUG and shutdown failure with current b43 driver configuration

2014-10-05 Thread Robert Stolczenberger
I could reproduce the problems with Compaq nx6310.
 - internal network card is not working (only in live mode)
 - power off is working only manually after shut down

I tried to run the command: "apport-collect 1327797", but it did not work.
Could anybody help me to solve the problem?

This should be a kernel problem, because Ubuntu 12.04.5 and 14.04.01 has
the same kernel file.

[Bug 1270788] Re: logging out of guest session should notify that data will be cleared

2014-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Well, users who don't pay attention will always run into trouble
irrespective of the desktop design.

lightdm, and with that the guest session feature, is included in several
distributions, for example Ubuntu with Unity, Xubuntu, Lubuntu and
Kubuntu, and I think they may use different software for logging out
from a session. Consequently, fixing this bug will probably require
changes in several packages, and I don't think lightdm is one of them.
(Still keeping lightdm as affected package for now.)

Julian, considering that you seem to find the issue important, would you
like to work with it?

("Wishlist" is typically used for new features, and does not imply that
a bug is unimportant.)

[Bug 1369424]

2014-10-05 Thread Thomas-luebking
The behavior is deliberate (manage.cpp:~465 "// If a dialog is shown for
minimized window, minimize it too") and likely intended to prevent the
user from interruptions of minimized windows (the WM cannot decide
whether this is spontanous or required) until the user moves focus to
this window again.

You will also notice that LOo does not unminimize nor (attempt) to gain
focus if you open a *.ods (which does not require a conversion dialog)

More interestingly, though the dialog is initially modal for the present
window, it opens a new window with the csv (here at least), ie. the
transiency and modality seems questionable in the first place.

-

My suggestion would thus be to rather "fix" the "libreoffice" script to
either map/raise/activate the mainwindow when opening a new document?

Something like

if [ -e "$2" ]; then
   wmctrl -x -a libreoffice
fi

on the head of /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice ?

Tested and confirmed that workaround fixes the bug

This also seems to work around the issue where opening new libreoffice
program windows would open in the background/minimised.

[Bug 1292548] Re: smb.conf contains valid users = %S in [global]

2014-10-05 Thread ped5
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1261873 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1261873

Agreed. Issue still exists after 14.04 LTS upgrade with Samba 4.1.6.
I even waited for this upgrade to ensure there would be none of these
issues, but still seeing it.

I commented out the valid users doesn't seem to make a difference
either.

I noticed that the script from Raoul no longer works given that the
version is 4.1.11, but I hesitate to install it given nothing I've seen
referencing .11 working to resolve this issue.

So is there a new ftp site for 4.1.6? Or does 4.1.11 work?

Saw another post regarding giving the home/user (user being generic of
course) giving chmod 707 privleges, but don't see how that makes a
difference.

Are their any other threads more recent that highlight these nuances?

Dolanor, did you have success reinstalling debian?

Thx

2014-10-05 Thread Vincent Cheng
The original bug reporter used a PPA package while filing this bug,
which is why it's invalid. Either way, this isn't a bug with 0ad itself,
if dpkg errors out with "unexpected end of file or stream", that's
telling you that the package you downloaded was corrupt. Again, as
mentioned previously, "sudo apt-get clean" followed by "sudo apt-get
install 0ad-data" should do the trick. Also make sure that you have
enough disk space.

[Bug 147551] Re: cups-pdf fails to generate file when user does not print to default ~/PDF (apparmor vs.cups-pdf inconsistency)

2014-10-05 Thread Josef Hopfgartner
This is what syslog says:
apparmor="DENIED" operation="connect" profile="/usr/lib/cups/backend/cups-pdf"
name="/run/samba/winbindd/pipe" pid=15076 comm="cups-pdf" requested_mask="wr"
denied_mask="wr" fsuid=0 ouid=0

So, in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsd a new entry has to be entered:
/run/samba/winbindd/pipe rw,

[Bug 1261873] Re: [trusty] "usershare" access denied error (leads to non working nautilus samba sharing)

2014-10-05 Thread ped5
Ran an update from a 12.10 update, and got the same error, and fell on
this thread.

I've added chuck's smb.conf.good, and updated my current shares. All
the original [homes] shared parameters are commented out.

Running samba 2:4.1.6+dfsg-1ubuntu2.14.04.3
on 14.04 LTS

All of my shares are visible through windows machines and XBMC, however
still getting NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED with smbstatus.

My shares made generic are as such:
-
[share1]
   comment = Backup Drive 2TB
   path = /media/disk2
   browseable = Yes
   read only = no

[share2]
   comment = Media Directory
   path = /media
   browseable = Yes
   read only = no

[share3$]
   comment = XMBC access to movies
   path = /home/user/Movies
   public = yes
   guest ok = yes
   read only = no

[share4$]
   comment = XMBC access to TV
   path = /home/user/TV
   public = yes
   guest ok = yes
   read only = no

--
Yes, I know share1 and 2 point the same locations, just share 1 I typically map
to the windows machines whereas 2 is if I need access to USB drives.

So although it's not causing issues for what I need done persay, it's
still a bit concerning that it's apparently not clean. Is there
something to do with chmod or UID access that I've overlooked?

Not urgent as it functions, just would like it to run a bit more clean
before there are other issues introduced that I'm simply not noticing
yet.

Appreciate any insights,
-ped

Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the

[Bug 1371425] Re: linux-firmware 1.127.5, 1.127.6 causes instable network connection (likely due to iwlwifi-7260-8.ucode)

2014-10-05 Thread Andrey Arapov
@Lathander you are right, 1.127 doesn't work as good as 1.127.4 does,
but still better than 1.127.5, .6, .7 ones

Even the ping to my AP was without a loss, any other external WAN IP resulted
about ~7% packet loss, e.g.:
--- google.com ping statistics ---
33 packets transmitted, 30 received, 9% packet loss, time 32067ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 27.453/55.770/514.347/90.367 ms

So I'll rollback to 1.127.4 that works the best for me.

[Bug 1377592] [NEW] [UIFe] Replace Pitivi with OpenShot

2014-10-05 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

Pitivi does not seem to work in 14.10. The attachment shows the output
from my attempt to start it from a terminal window, and judging from the
latest comment at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/727851 there is zero
interest upstream to keep maintaining Pitivi.

In the linked MP I propose that OpenShot is highlighted in the Ubuntu
slideshow instead of Pitivi. The MP does not include a change of the
Ubuntu GNOME slideshow, since I suppose it should be decided by the
dedicated team.

As regards the freeze exception, the change would not affect the Ubuntu
Desktop Guide, and I will alert the translators about the new string if
it gets approved.

The proposal may have policy implications, so I have also started a
thread at the ubuntu-desktop mailing list:

[Bug 1059872] Re: Error formatting disk using disk utility

2014-10-05 Thread Alex
** Description changed:

  Formatting a SD card using the disk utility fails with an error message

  "Error formatting disk - Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed
  out waiting for object (udisks-error-quark, 0)"

  Steps to repro:
  Launch the disk utility
  Plug a SD card into the computer
  Select the SD card and click on the gears icon at the top right of the
application
  From the drop down menu, select "Format Disk"
  maintain the default setting and select Format
  Acknowledge warnings
  After format process has been going for a while, the error message shown
above pops up
+
+ Workaround:
+ After selecting the SD card, instead of clicking the gear icon to format,
click the partition in the "Volumes" section.
+ Delete the partition ("minus" icon)
+ Create a new partition

  -

  The underlying problem is that the "wipefs" tool from util-linux does
  not work any more.

  === TEST CASE ===
  $ sudo modprobe scsi_debug dev_size_mb=200
  # this creates a new /dev/sdX, usually /dev/sdb; check dmesg!

  # now create a partition table
  $ cat

[Bug 1166765] Re: unity showing only blank desktop, no dash nor decorations

2014-10-05 Thread Glen Nelson
Hit on desktop running 14.04 and nvida gtx 780. Was running nvidia-
3nvidia-3340 drivers

Fixed by uninstalling nvidia drivers:

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

Then running the gsettings command from post 11.

Once I was back in, I installed the nvidia drivers via the 'additional
drivers' interface.

[Bug 1357387] Re: Please merge audit 1:2.3.7-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)

2014-10-05 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package audit - 1:2.3.7-1ubuntu1

---
audit (1:2.3.7-1ubuntu1) utopic; urgency=medium

  * Merge from Debian testing (LP: #1357387). Remaining changes:
- debian/rules: Disable auditd network listener, with --disable-listener,
  to reduce the risk of a remote attack on auditd, which runs as root
- debian/control, debian/rules: Remove libwrap0-dev Build-Dependency and
  --with-libwrap configure argument since libwrap is only used by the
  auditd network listener
- debian/auditd.init: The start command now requires $remote_fs to be
  started because it may call /bin/augenrules, which depends on
  /usr/bin/awk. $PATH must also be updated so that augenrules can find
  awk.
  * Dropped changes:
- debian/auditd.preinst, debian/auditd.postinst, debian/auditd.postrm:
  Migrate from the Ubuntu-specific way of providing a rules directory
  (/etc/audit/rules.d/) to the new, upstream rules directory feature based
  on /sbin/augenrules. This migration logic was present in the 14.04 LTS
  and can now be dropped because all supported upgrade paths will include
  the 14.04 LTS package.

audit (1:2.3.7-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release

audit (1:2.3.6-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
- debian/rules: Rename --with-armeb flag to --with-arm, changed upstream
- Adjust debian/libaudit1.symbols file: Add audit_determine_machine()
  * debian/rules: Include aarch64 support on arm64 architecture, we will build
with it on all architectures when it will be an official port

audit (1:2.3.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
- Adjust debian/libauparse0.symbols: Add a new symbol
  * Adopt the audit package (Closes: #692492)

audit (1:2.3.3-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload
  * desactivated patch "build-on-hppa" since the package still doesn't
build on hppa, and since upstream is reluctant to integrate the patch.

audit (1:2.3.3-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload
  * fix pathnames of patches files in debian/patches/build-on-hppa

audit (1:2.3.3-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * QA upload
  * Enable compilation on hppa (closes: 735944). Thanks to Helge Deller!
- patch build-on-hppa
- debian/rules: configure --with-hppa on hppa architecture

audit (1:2.3.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * QA upload.
  * New upstream release
- Adjust debian/libauparse0.symbols

audit (1:2.3.2-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * QA upload.
  * debian/control: Relax the libaudit1 dependency against libaudit-common in
case the soname gets bumped again (Closes: #721361)
  * debian/auditd.README.Debian: Rewrite the part on how enabling augenrules
on systemd systems without copying the complete unit file.
  * debian/control: Mark -dev packages as Multi-arch: same (Closes: #731291)
  * debian/control: Add dependency against "mawk | gawk" for augenrules
  * debian/control: Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.5 (no further changes)

[Bug 1377600] [NEW] ufw errors after ctr+c interupt

2014-10-05 Thread ilovenwd
Public bug reported:

in ufw.util.get_netfilter_capabilities

```
# Cleanup
cmd([exe, '-F', chain])
(rc, out) = cmd([exe, '-X', chain])
if rc != 0:
raise OSError(errno.ENOENT, out) # pragma: no cover
```

if the `ufw xxx` command is interrupt by ctrl+c, the cleanup is not called,
so every ufw cmd afterwards cause error:

```
ERROR: initcaps
[Errno 2] iptables: Chain already exists.
```

I think we should catch error and cleanup in a finally statement.
Or cleanup related rules before ufw init.

[Bug 1112496] Re: python-imaging broken in raring

2014-10-05 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I'm not that familiar with the package, so I can't tell for certain
whether it has been fixed, but I tried phatch version 0.2.7.1-3 on
Ubuntu 14.04 which installed and started without any error messages.
>From what I see from the comments, it seems like phatch would simply
crash on startup, so maybe this is fixed. I also see that the changelog
talks about fixes for python-imaging in both 0.2.7.1-2 and 0.2.7.1-3,

[Bug 1377596] Re: pcie_aspm.policy=powersave pcie_aspm=force does not enable L0sL1 (L0s L1) on each ASPM PCIe device

2014-10-05 Thread Pro Backup
This is a system without GUI. Therefore I am replacing apport-collect with:
# apport-cli --save /home/user/bug.apport linux

Result:
It appears you are currently running a mainline kernel. It would be better to
report this bug upstream at http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ so that the upstream
kernel developers are aware of the issue. If you'd still like to file a bug
against the Ubuntu kernel, please boot with an official Ubuntu kernel and
re-file.

*** Problem in linux-image-3.17.0-999-generic

The problem cannot be reported:

This is not an official Ubuntu package. Please remove any third party
package and try again.

[Bug 1377007] Re: Delay in response to user actions in Ubuntu 14.10 on cards AMD

2014-10-05 Thread Tamir
** Description changed:

  Constant periodic belated response of the system to the user. Evident even
when you drive across the screen just with the mouse.
  When you turn off the laptop weighs a welcome screen for a long time until
the power goes off.
  Perhaps the problem is in the other modules of the operating system, such as
the open source driver for AMD graphics cards in the kernel 3.16
  P.S. In Ubuntu 14.04 no such problem.

[Bug 1368647] Re: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

2014-10-05 Thread Johannes
Hello everybody!

I've get the following error (already mentioned above):

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ test_ubuntu_app_api_location_service
E1005 14:19:23.096575 25459 skeleton.cpp:177] Error creating session: Client
lacks permissions to access the service with the given criteria
ua_location_service_create_session_for_high_accuracy: Error creating instance:
virtual com::ubuntu::location::service::session::Interface::Ptr
com::ubuntu::location::service::Stub::create_session_for_criteria(const
com::ubuntu::location::Criteria&):
com.ubuntu.location.Service.Error.CreatingSession: Error creating session

For me it does not depend on the uptime or something... (It simply never works
;) [devel channel])
But GPS itself seems to work(?):

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ test_gps

timestamp:  -531229311
nmea (63):  $GPGSV,6,4,24,21,14,074,,22,63,105,,27,77,139,,76,15,334,25*71

Greetings
Johannes
So it seems to be a problem with the location-service itself(?). Or am I
getting something wrong?

[Bug 1360660] Re: starlink-pal-0.5.0 requires erfa-1.1.0

2014-10-05 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Ok, so the goal is to run starlink-pal 0.5.0-1 on Ubuntu 14.04? You will
probably need the erfa library available in Ubuntu Utopic, either by
grabbing the package and installing it on Ubuntu 14.04 (might work),
build it yourself, or request a backport. Since 14.04 has been released,
very few changes will happen to the packages in the repository for
stability/regression reasons. However, it is possible to request a
backport of a newer version of the package,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports#Requesting_a_Backport, which
makes it available in trusty-backports where users can install it.
