[Bug 1324688] Re: Backlight Disabled during and after fresh install

2014-05-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
jtryon, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test http://people.canonical.com/~kamal/lp1169376/ and
advise if this issue is resolved?

** Description changed:

- I can just barely make out the screen, this seems to be related to:
+ I can just barely make out the screen in fresh 14.04 install.

- ...though I'm running a fresh 14.04 install.
-
- What I discovered is that I have regular backlight operation if I boot with
the BIOS option for "Legacy" boot options.
- When booting with Legacy off I get the brightness issue.
-
- I don't necessarily want the legacy options on since they take
- precendence over the UEFI ones for some reason.
+ WORKAROUND: Boot with Legacy mode enabled in BIOS.

Indeed it was in the mirror.

Updated kernel. Now wifi works perfectly - the connection and the sites
themselves, ssh, and the rest.

You can confirm this verification.

Thanks.

worked when mounting the default @ subvolume, as opposed to mounting

[Bug 1324762] Re: MBP 8, 1 fails to boot without noefi since linux-image-3.13.0-20-generic

2014-05-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mike Gratton, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (3.15-rc7) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.15-rc7

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Description changed:

- My MacBookPro 8,1 (Early 2011, 13") will not boot using any trusty

- screen, and the system hangs. If booting into rescue mode without noefi
- (i.e. without quiet, splash, vt.redirect, etc.), I see the following

[Bug 1324805] [NEW] Unable to launch Gnome from KDM in 14.04

2014-05-30 Thread Marcus Karlsson
Public bug reported:

Summary:

I have installed Ubuntu 14.04 on a number of machines and set them to
use kdm as the display manager. This works fine except for when a user
attempts to log in to a Gnome session. The greeter just disappears and
nothing happens.

The user is authenticated according to auth.log:

May 30 09:35:42 machine kdm: :0[2302]: pam_krb5(kdm:auth): user user
authenticated as user@DOMAIN
May 30 09:35:42 machine kdm: :0[2302]: pam_unix(kdm:account): unrecognized
option [ignore_root]
May 30 09:35:42 machine kdm: :0[2302]: pam_unix(kdm:session): session
opened for user user by (uid=0)

But there's not a lot of Gnome processes running.

root@machine:~# ps -fu user
UIDPID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
user 2346 2302 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 init --user
user 2419 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 ssh-agent -s
user 2424 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 dbus-daemon --fork
--session --address=unix:abstract=/tmp/dbus-B6YOSxHnPA
user 2430 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 upstart-event-bridge
user 2432 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 upstart-file-bridge
--daemon --user
user 2434 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 upstart-dbus-bridge
--daemon --session --user --bus-name session
user 2436 2346 0 09:35 ?00:00:00 upstart-dbus-bridge
--daemon --system --user --bus-name system

The Gnome session works fine when using lightdm.

1. lsb_release -rd:

Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

2. apt-cache policy kdm:

kdm:
  Installed: 4:4.11.9-0ubuntu0.2
  Candidate: 4:4.11.9-0ubuntu0.2
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.11.9-0ubuntu0.2 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 4:4.11.8-0ubuntu6 0
500 file:/import/ftp/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages

3. Expected result:

User should log in to a Gnome session.

4. What actually happened:

User is stuck at a blank screen. Only the kdm background image is
visible.

[Bug 1324803] [NEW] Boot failure with kernel image 3.2.0-63 in 12.04

2014-05-30 Thread Troels Nilsson
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 3.2.0-63 from 3.2.0-61 I can no longer boot, due to a
failure to mount root. Selecting the old 3.2.0-61 kernel in grub fixes
the issue.

I get an "Unable to reset I T nexus?" error in the kernel log, which seems to
be related to the commit 584ec1226519 "isci:
fix reset timeout handling". See the debian discussion here:

exist on latest daily 3.15 kernel marked for trusty tahr.

apparently works if passing acpi_backlight=vendor

[Bug 1324800] [NEW] network-manager does not save vpn (openvpn) password anymore

2014-05-30 Thread malheum
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I am using network-manager to connect to an openvpn vpn and for a couple
of days now, network-manager does not keep or save the password for the
vpn anymore. I have to input the password again and again every time I
do connect to the vpn.

It used to work before, so this is probably a regression.

Currently installed network-manager packages

ii network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu7
ii network-manager-gnome 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu4.1
un network-manager-kde
un network-manager-openconnect
un network-manager-openconnect-gnome
ii network-manager-openvpn 0.9.8.2-1ubuntu4
ii network-manager-openvpn-gnome 0.9.8.2-1ubuntu4
ii network-manager-pptp 0.9.8.2-1ubuntu2
ii network-manager-pptp-gnome0.9.8.2-1ubuntu2
ii network-manager-vpnc 0.9.8.6-1ubuntu2
ii network-manager-vpnc-gnome0.9.8.6-1ubuntu2

This is an xubuntu 14.04 64 bits machine with all patches applied.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

The attached screenshot shows the options dialog of network-manager for
the openvpn passwd. I blacked out the username. The field for password
never keeps the password if I save the openvpn settings dialog.

[Bug 1319257] Re: Additional drivers tab crashes if locale is sv and recommended driver available

2014-05-30 Thread Joakim Fogelström Hardingz
"The original string is correctly marked for translation. The reason all
arguments are marked for translation is so that languages that need to
do so rearrange these arguments in a way that is readable for users."

Ah, that makes sense. Didn't think about that :)

Regarding gettext not catching the errors, I would say there is a chance
similar bugs like this one may be out there. Somebody ought to take a
look at that.

[Bug 1221673] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in CompAction::initiate()

I will keep an eye on
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/24c9ba23fb469a953e7624b1dfb8fdae97c45618
to see if this trusty-proposed version of Unity shows up. If it doesn't
after a week or so, then I feel quite confident the issue is fixed.
Also, seeing as this fix is in Utopic and no new bugs or reports in
e.u.c, it stands to reason the fix is holding up as well.

[Bug 1309739] Re: Unity launcher icon edge illumination is offset

2014-05-30 Thread Christopher Townsend
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

Many users tend to change the size of the Launcher icons to better fit
the screen resolution of their monitor or for personal tastes and
workflow reasons. This issue causes the "edge glow" of icons to be
offset at sizes less than 40 and greater than 56. This looks really
  ugly and unprofessional.

  [Test case]

  * Open CCSM->Ubuntu Unity Plugin->Launcher
  * Change "Launcher Icon Backlight Mode" to "Edge Illumination Toggles"
  * Change "Launcher Icon Size" to some value in the range described above such
as 38.
  * Make sure an application is open on the Launcher to see the edge glow
around the icon.

  [Regression Potential]

- None identified.
+ The texture itself may not look as nice on hi DPI screens when
+ rescaling, but when the texture is offset from the icon, it would be
+ hard to tell anyways.

  Original Description:

In Unity, when using the edge illumination effect on launcher icons is
offset. It shows to the top and left of the icons, but barely at all to
  the right and bottom.

This was not a problem before Trusty; in Saucy and previous releases the
edges were aligned properly. See attached screenshots.

[Bug 1123403] Re: [Acer V5-171] Installer is blocked by UEFI Secure Boot

2014-05-30 Thread Nils Sabelstrom
I can confirm successful booting using a Acer v5-171 with bios version 2.21
tested media is 14.04 liveUSB and installed ubuntu 14.04

All with secure boot enabled.

If you update to V2.21, this needs to be done from win8 and the
EFI/ubuntu folder was removed for me, so please make sure to back up
your boot files and copy them back using a liveCD after upgrading.

Correct. An easier way to reproduce is to disconnect/connect a power
supply. In either case, reviewing the indicator on the panel with Orca
produces the same string of text. At the moment I am told that I have 3
hours and 55 minutes left on my battery, even though I am plugged in.

[Bug 1324811] [NEW] Please disable by default "Use the mouse wheel on the desktop to switch workspaces"

2014-05-30 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Public bug reported:

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
Release:14.04

2) apt-cache policy xfwm4
xfwm4:
  Installed: 4.11.1-2ubuntu2

  Version table:
 *** 4.11.1-2ubuntu2 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages

3) What is expected to happen in a default Xubuntu install is when one
uses the touchpad to scroll down a window in a browser or document, it
doesn't start switching through windows randomly.

4) What happens instead is it does. Nobody expects this behavior by
default. While it's interesting to have this feature as an available
option, having it enabled by default only detracts from the Xubuntu
experience.

[Bug 1322899] Re: pacemaker init script links aren't created on upgrade

2014-05-30 Thread Jakob Lundberg
I have a problem with using the update-rc.d to generate the rc*.d links.
Even though pacemaker gets sequence number 20 and corosync number 19. It
appears that corosync is not fully started when pacemaker gets started.

The result is that pacemaker starts up without a connection to the peer.
And resources such as DRBD gets in a split brain state.

When removing the rc*.d links for pacemaker and starting pacemaker
manually there is no problem. So apperantly it is not enough to wait for
the corosync init script to launch. corosync needs to get properly
connected before it is safe to start pacemaker.

On earlier verisions this was not a problem as the corosync plugin
started pacemaker when corosync was ready.

dino99, 1:3.3.9-1ubuntu4 was deleted from the -proposed pocket --
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/procps/+publishinghistory -- are
you running -proposed yourself? I believe the -proposed pocket for the
devel release isn't for humans to run.

Thanks

[Bug 1324820] [NEW] Evolution fails to retrieve certain eMail via POP3

2014-05-30 Thread roots
Public bug reported:

Evolution fails to retrieve some 3-5 eMails via POP3 from my provider
(German GMX) for no apparent reason. These eMails...

-are from a different sender and date/time
-do not contain attachments
-are less than 27kB in size.

I have deleted the uid-cache file inside ~/.local/share/evolution/mail/... and
restartet evolution, but that did not help.
Thunderbird retrieves these messages without a problem.

Please advise on how to help debugging this issue. Thanks.
