[Bug 1292830] Re: Huge black borders around windows after resuming
Steven, thanks for the workaround, working here. That said, at the risk of stating the obvious, this bug should really be considered a top priority to fix. [Bug 296867]
(In reply to comment #76) > 1) handle html, I'm not sure to understand what you mean or why it is that > important... Maybe you can make the changes that you want? Looking into it. The more important direction (don't send plain text where HTML is expected, so that parts of messages that happen to look aren't silently ignored) is easy, it just needs g_markup_escape_text(). The other direction (don't send HTML where plain text is expected) is more difficult, but libxml should be able to do it; and if we don't, the failure mode is that a user sees HTML markup instead of plain text, which isn't *so* bad. > 2) Find a solution if we don't want the other end to be able to initiate an > OTR session without approving it first. I think a CM parameter is the only way to do this. It'll work for MC- stored accounts (which includes all Haze accounts and all "unbranded" accounts like generic Jabber/IRC, even if GOA is used), and for UOA- stored accounts. I agree that GOA's account parameter storage limitations mean it won't work for GOA-stored Google Talk or Facebook accounts, or GOA-stored Windows Live accounts in the unlikely event that Microsoft bring back their XMPP bridge. If you want communications privacy, Google and Facebook are probably not the ideal option anyway... and that GOA issue is not something that Telepathy can fix in any case. > 3) Fix string spelling. [Bug 1318934] [NEW] F9 shortcut doesn't work after pressed in builtin terminal
Public bug reported: Package: /usr/bin/geany Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS Affected Geany versions: 1.23+dfsg-1~hyper1+precise (from ppa), 0.21.dfsg-1ubuntu4 (from Ubuntu repository) Details: If anyone of the shortcuts F5 (execute), F8 (compile), F9 (build), Shift+F9 (make) and Ctrl+Shift+F9 (make custom target) is pressed in the embedded terminal, then even after switching the focus back to the main editor, these 5 shortcuts still do not work. Expected to happen: The sourcecode being executed, compiled, built or made What happened instead: Nothing Remapping these keys to other shortcuts does not work, but the buttons and the options from the Build menu work fine. Other shortcuts also work, including F1, F2, F4, F6, Ctrl+C etc. This can be "fixed" by unchecking the "Override Geany keybindings" option in Edit -> Preferences -> Terminal, but this will disable all shortcuts for the terminal (e.g. Ctrl+C for SIGINT). Steps to reproduce: 1. Create an empty file with .c extension 2. Press F9 (works, brings you to the Compiler tab) 3. Go to the embedded terminal and press F9 (the ~ character should appear) 4. Switch focus back to the main editor and press F9 (nothing happens) This has been reported to Geany https://sourceforge.net/p/geany/bugs/1032/ but they say this is a Unity bug that they won't fix. I hope this is the right place to report this, if not please let me know. ** Affects: geany (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318934 Title: F9 shortcut doesn't work after pressed in builtin terminal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geany/+bug/1318934/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998285] Re: Tapping alt-tab switches between windows of the same application sometimes
Sorry, Marco, but if this is the intended design, then the design is flawed. Unity Alt-Tab behavior breaches the system of using one shortcut for switching between applcations and another for switching between windows of the same application. The reason for using shortcuts to switch windows is to do it automatically and without thought. If you work in a window for some time, you cannot remember which was the last window or application you used. Then, when you attempt to alt-tab switch, the result in Unity will surprise you most of the time. I have noticed that, when using Unity, my speed of switching windows deteriorates, because each time i press Alt-Tab (i.e. after the first click) I have to pause and see where I have landed. By comparison, switching between windows in Gnome Shell happens considerably faster, because there you just click on Alt-Tab, without giving any thought. In Unity, it goes like that: click, think and then click further. Or worse: click, wtf and then click further. Please, allow the option you suggested. It will greatly improve the Unity experience for some people. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998285 Title: Tapping alt-tab switches between windows of the same application sometimes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/998285/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 296867]
(In reply to comment #58) > + type="(say)" access="read"> > > Are these literally the hex and binary versions of the same digest, or do > they have different information content? (Or is the string version some > OTR-specific thing that is easier to transcribe than hex?) I'm not particularly happy about this type duplicating the information: whenever there's duplication, there's the possibility that the duplicates don't agree. I can see why you did it, though - the OTR library doesn't seem to have a function to convert a human-readable digest back into binary (although we could easily write one), so you currently need the binary digest in order to set trust. If possible I'd prefer to stick to one encoding or the other, consistently - either always a string (which I think is what I'd prefer), or always a byte-array. At the moment we only put the string form in message headers, not the byte-array. I'm tempted to implement a function to turn the string into binary (decode hex, ignore whitespace, report an error unless it has exactly 40 hex digits) and just use strings throughout. > I think it would also be useful to spec that one of the forms of the remote > fingerprint will appear in the message header (0'th part) of each individual > message, perhaps { "otr-remote-fingerprint": a string }. That would make it > easy for someone to do either of these things in a race-condition-free way: > > * record in the Logger that the messages were encrypted/verified > * give the Logger a configuration setting "[ ] do not log OTR messages" > (which it would recognize by seeing that they have an OTR remote > fingerprint You added otr-sender-fingerprint to received messages. I think we should also add a fingerprint to messages that were sent during an OTR session, so that we can associate the logged session with the fingerprint (or avoid logging them at all), too. For now I'm changing it to otr-remote-fingerprint, because that's always the easier one to get - we could use otr-sender-fingerprint and otr- recipient-fingerprint if there's some reason that's better, but just having one seems easier. (In reply to comment #50) > Could we also get a config option that turns this whole feature on/off? Still needed, IMO. (In reply to comment #61) > I would really like im-channel to implement o.fd.Telepathy.Securable Non-blocker but still desirable. Given what I said in Comment #78, I think we can set Encrypted when OTR is active, but we can't set Verified in any case, because the thing that Securable says we Verified (that the key with which we're encrypting belongs to the contact identified by the Channel's Target_ID) does not seem to be what OTR actually verifies. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296867 Title: empathy needs to support OTR encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/296867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 296867]
Security issue: it isn't at all clear to me what "trust" means here. In something like GPG or SSL, the trusted assertion is "the key whose fingerprint is ...63c7cc90 is controlled by 'Simon McVittie '" or "the key whose fingerprint is ... is controlled by the administrators of bugs.freedesktop.org" - it binds a key to a somewhat human-comprehensible identity (name and email address, or domain name). I would have automatically assumed that the same was true in OTR - binding a key fingerprint to a JID (or whatever else the identifier is, in non-XMPP protocols) - but that doesn't seem to be happening here. Instead, we're saying "I trust this fingerprint" but it isn't clear what property of the fingerprint we're trusting. In particular, we don't seem to be binding a fingerprint to a JID. Concretely, suppose I talk to xavier.claess...@collabora.co.uk and you present key ID 12345678 [1]. I verify out-of-band that that is really your key ID (perhaps by phoning you or receiving GPG-signed email) and mark it as trusted. Next, I talk to guillaume.desmot...@collabora.co.uk who presents key ID fedcba98, and again, I mark it as trusted. Now Guillaume hijacks your XMPP account, and when I next try to talk to you, Guillaume presents key ID fedcba98. I have "trusted" that key, so my UI doesn't indicate that anything is wrong - but it isn't your key, it's Guillaume's! How does OTR typically deal with this situation? Do OTR users memorize key IDs and ignore the JIDs and contact names presented by the UI, or does the Pidgin OTR plugin store pairs (JID, key ID) and warn the user if an unexpected pairing is found, or does "trust" here mean "I trust this person not to impersonate any of my other contacts"? [1] in real life the key ID would be longer than that, but you get the idea -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/296867 Title: empathy needs to support OTR encryption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/empathy/+bug/296867/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1295835] Re: qtchooser should have a fallback mechanism (for version AND architecture)
Another fun version of this is bug #1312895 Since both qdbus:i386 and qdbus:amd64 would satisfy a qdbus dependency one can end up with the foreign architecture package (e.g. i386) which consequently fails to start because the config will want to look in the amd64 path rather than the i386 one. also do note https://launchpadlibrarian.net/175232479/03_QT_SELECT-notWorking.txt for output of qdbus invocation and https://launchpadlibrarian.net/175232444/02_dpkg_qdbus.txt for dpkg saying that there is only one qdbus and that's for the foreign arch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295835 Title: qtchooser should have a fallback mechanism (for version AND architecture) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtchooser/+bug/1295835/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1317811] Re: Dropped packets on EC2, "xen_netfront: xennet: skb rides the rocket: x slots"
Could be interesting to find out whether on a m1.small the issue does not occur (although that still could be resulting from other differences in the setup than mtu). Not sure how AWS manages to cause the instance to come up with a different mtu either. In my experiments I had a normal bridge on the host set to 9000 and the guest still had 1500. Though I do not know how the network is set up in EC2 in detail (could be openvswitch). Generally the issue is that something seems to cause packets with a large data buffer. One slot in the xen-net driver is a 4k page. The limit is 18 slots. Anything above that causes the observed message and the packet to be dropped. The host side would have another limit of (usually) 20 slots on which it would assume a malicious guest and disrupts the connection. But since the guest drops at 17 or above the host should never see that number. Unfortunately I am not that deeply understanding the network code, so I will have to ask upstream. As far as I understand a socket buffer can consist of of multiple fragments (kind of a scatter gather list). There is a definition in the code that sets a limit to the number of fragments based on a maximum frame size of 64K. This results in 17 frags (for 4K pages that is 16 + 1 to handle data not starting at page boundary). The Xen driver counts the length of the memory area in all frags (if data in a frag starts at an offset that is added, the code does that for every frag, the question would be whether in theory each frag would be allowed to have an offset because that might add up to more than one page). To the number of pages needed for the frags, the driver then adds the number of pages (can that be more than one?) needed for the header. If that is bigger than 18 (17 for frag + 1 for header?) the rides the rocket error happens. This leaves a few question marks for me: the memory associated with a frag can be a compound page, so I would think that the length might be greater than 4K. I have no clue, yet, how compound pages exactly come into play. Is the 64K limit still enforced by a limit of the number of frags? Can each frag data begin at some offset (and end with more than one page of overall overhead)? Apparently the header can start at some offset, too. So worst case (assuming header length to be less than 4K), if the offset is quite big, that could end up requiring 2 pages. Then if the frag data happens to use up its 17 pages limit, we just would end up hitting the 19 pages failure size. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317811 Title: Dropped packets on EC2, "xen_netfront: xennet: skb rides the rocket: x slots" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1317811/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
