[Bug 1304851] [NEW] Fade in/out after resume/lock very slow

2014-04-09 Thread Henning Knut Skoglund
Public bug reported:

I downloaded the development version of 14.04, one issue that I've
experienced so far is that the fade in of the greeter after resume from
suspend is very slow. I have opted out on the fade in/out effects in
compiz configuration settings, why do I get fade in/out for the greeter
and is it possible to increase the speed of the fade?

It also is a noticable delay for visual feedback (*) when entering a
password character in the password prompt.

lshw -C video

  *-display
   description: VGA compatible controller
   product: RV515/M54 [Mobility Radeon X1400]
vendor: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]

I tried to install the linux performance tool - perf -. to get an idea
of what's happening. While in the unity-greeter I ran in a console

sudo perf record -a -g

then holding the 'a'-key in the password field for 10-15 seconds

and then

   sudo perf report

screenshot on report :
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B45ATdu5qGEbbVo1UnJnbEdMX0k/edit?usp=sharing

it seems like much time in used by compiz process and r300_dri.so?

[Bug 1304852] [NEW] Sync plainbox-provider-checkbox 0.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2014-04-09 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
Public bug reported:

Please sync plainbox-provider-checkbox 0.4-1 (main) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Fix the namespace of the provider to comply with checkbox-ng 0.2.2-1

Ubuntu delta has been integrated into upstream releases.

Changelog entries since current trusty version 0.3-2ubuntu1:

plainbox-provider-checkbox (0.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release. List of bugfixes:
https://launchpad.net/plainbox-provider-checkbox/14.04/0.4
  * debian/watch: look for new releases on launchpad
  * debian/rules: stop using pybuild and use manage.py
{i18n,build,install,validate} instead. This also drops dependency on
python3-distutils-extra and replaces that with intltool
  * debian/control: drop X-Python3-Version
  * debian/control: make plainbox-provider-checkbox depend on python and
python2.7 (for some scripts) rather than suggesting them.
  * debian/upstream/signing-key.asc: Use armoured gpg keys to avoid having to
keep binary files in Debian packaging. Also, replace that with my key
since I made the 0.3 release upstream.
  * debian/source/lintian-overrides: add an override for warning about no
source for flash movie with reference to a bug report that discusses that
issue.
  * debian/source/include-binaries: drop (no longer needed)
  * debian/patches: drop (no longer needed)
  * debian/plainbox-provider-checkbox.lintian-overrides: drop (no longer
needed)
  * Stop being a python3 module, move to from DPMT to PAPT

[Bug 1302615] Re: [FFe] [UIFe] Checkbox GUI needs to be able to send test results to Launchpad

2014-04-09 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
** Description changed:

We propose to add a new feature to the Checkbox UI, which will allow the
user to send their test results to the Launchpad Hardware Database
(https://launchpad.net/+hwdb/+submit). The UI will be changed to ask for
the users Launchpad email address at the end of testing. After
submitting they will see a response indicating whether submission was
succesful or if some error occured.

N.B. This reinstates a feature that was in Checkbox in previous
releases, but was removed during Trusty development due to re-
implementation of the Checkbox core and UI.

This feature is considered beneficial as it will mean users will
continue being able to send test reports to Launchpad, which may at a
later date be used for currently undefined purposes (a past use has been
to drive the Ubuntu Friendly database).

The visible UI changes (warranting a UIFe) are in checkbox-gui, but in
order for this feature to work fully, the following syncs will need to
  be done from Debian:

  - plainbox 0.5.3
  - checkbox-ng 0.3
  - plainbox-provider-checkbox 0.4
+ - checkbox-support 0.2

Testing that has been performed as of now:

  - Package builds
  - Package installs on Trusty
  - Submit to Launchpad feature works, and no noticable regressions occur
    in regular usage of Checkbox

UIFe requests to ubuntu-doc and ubuntu-translators

[Bug 1304446] Re: git is removed when apt-get remove libldap-2.4-2

2014-04-09 Thread Tommy Kihlstrøm
I'm really sorry for wasting your time. I'll do some more research next
time. We're doing an assignment i class and libldap is on the install
script the teacher gave us. So that way we thought libldap was only for
openldap, did not think git was dependent on it.

Again really sorry!

** Changed in: openldap (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Invalid

** Description changed:

I'm making a script for installing ldap server and posting the script to
git. But every time i remove libldap-2.4-2 and only this package, git is
also removed. I feel this is a bit unnecessary.

  Install command:
  sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils libldap-2.4-2 libnss-ldap

  remove command
  sudo apt-get purge -y slapd ldap-utils libldap-2.4-2 libnss-ldap && apt-get
-y autoremove && apt-get autoclean

you can see that git is removed when running
  apt-get remove libldap-2.4-2

-
  I'm running build:
  Linux prosjekt2-server 3.8.0-29-generic #42~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 14
15:31:16 UTC 2013 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

[Bug 1304856] [NEW] QDbus fails to start on login

2014-04-09 Thread [Po]lentino
Public bug reported:

Today I freshly-installed Kubuntu Thrusty Thar Beta2 downloaded from here:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/releases/trusty/beta-2/ .
After the installation, I rebooted the laptop and i successfully logged into
KDE. After a while, the package manager notified me about new pakage updates,
so I installed them and rebooted again ... and now I cant' login into KDE
anymore.
When I try log in, a small window pops up instead and tells me :

"Could not start dbus. Can you call DBus?"

Weird.
So I typed CTRL+ALT+F1, logged in tty1, and invoked qdbus. Here's what I got:

"Could not connect to D-Bus server:
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Unable to autolaunch a dbus-
daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11"

What's going on here?
Cheers,

Diego.

[Bug 1302077] Re: Hardcoded css style checks on GTK Theme instead of XGD_CURRENT_DESKTOP

2014-04-09 Thread Tim
Leo this will cause regressions, particularly for users of the high
contrast theme.

The overrides should be only applied to Radiance/Ambiance so you should
check that in addition to XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP.

Or if you can make the actual Radiance/Ambiance themes behave properly
then this patch can be dropped. However nautilus uses a completely non-
standard implementation of header bars so I didnt want to mess with
that.

[Bug 1250979] Re: Nautilus forgets sidebar settings

2014-04-09 Thread Alexey Surinov
I would like to confirm this: i have at least 3 computers with Ubuntu
installed (13.10 64) - i do not know any way to close that sidebar
forever, that is very annoying to me, since i don't use it, but it eats
up a place on the screen, especially since two-panel was removed i'm
trying to workaround this opening two half-screen nautilus instances and
everytime i need to close that sidebar at least twice.

[Bug 509329]

That's nonsensical. "Clone" means identical.

We did actually try doing something like this at one point, where we'd
set all the outputs to their native resolutions, overlapping, with their
top-left corners aligned. Turns out that's a worse solution because
desktop UI elements like panels get either placed in the middle of the
screen (if you align them to the smaller screen) or only visible on one
screen and not the other (if you align them to the larger). And people
hated that, and rightly so, so now we pick the largest mode supported on
both.

---
plainbox-provider-checkbox (0.4-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release. List of bugfixes:

  * debian/watch: look for new releases on launchpad
  * debian/rules: stop using pybuild and use manage.py

python3-distutils-extra and replaces that with intltool
  * debian/control: drop X-Python3-Version
  * debian/source/lintian-overrides: add an override for warning about no

issue.

2014-04-09 Thread Martin Pitt
This bug was fixed in the package plainbox - 0.5.3-2
Sponsored for Zygmunt Krynicki (zkrynicki)

---
plainbox (0.5.3-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * debian/python3-plainbox.preinst: remove

  * debian/control: make python3-plainbox, plainbox, plainbox-secure-policy
and plainbox-insecure-policy all depend on one version on themselves.
LP: #1298284
  * debian/control: break python3-checkbox-ng << 0.3
  * debian/control: drop build and runtime dependency on python3-requests

Daniel's solution in Comment #9 solved the issue for me when I today
upgraded from Kubuntu 13.10 to 14.04.

As of April 6th, the akonadi-server package 1.12.0-0ubuntu1 still
triggered the exact GID issue as was reported in comment #8.

[Bug 1304864] [NEW] sometimes I'm stuck in exposé view

2014-04-09 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

sometimes I'm getting stuck in what I think is called exposé view in
unity (have a look at the screenshot). I double click on a program icon
on the launcher and since it has two or more windows open they are
spread out. Then, sometimes, no matter I do, I can't get out of that.
When I move back to the launcher, it is highlighted, I can close
programs from there from the context menu but the exposé view remains
there. I tried hitting Super, Esc and other key combinations but the
only thing I can do is to go to a VT and restart lightdm (ouch!).

[Bug 1304865] [NEW] [LENOVO 20A70037US] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-09 Thread mithras
Public bug reported:

Suspend and resume fails with Ubuntu 14.04. As far as I recon, the
suspend works but the laptop never resumes. I am not sure where to
report this problem (it's now under the package "Linux") but I can help
ppl with debugging for this machine is necessary.

In short, what I expected:
closing the laptop lid will suspend the machine, opening it will resume it

What happened:
the machine went into sleep, but opening the lid didn't resume Ubuntu

Reproducible: always, as well as clicking "suspend" in the menu top-
right of ubuntu. Resume also fails clicking the power button of the
machine. Long pressing the button will power off the machine so I can
reboot again.

[Bug 1304657] Re: world writable files in /var/lib/apt/lists

2014-04-09 Thread Michael Vogt
It appears that git commit 7335eebea6dd43581d4650a8818b06383ab89901
introduced the bug, i.e. the fchmod() call there. This was done in Tue
Aug 27 2013. Ironically it was meant to improve the security of apt by
replacing mktemp() with mkostemp() - oh well. No stable version of
ubuntu is affected (and none for Debian) - the change was introduced in
apt 0.9.11.2.

The issue is caused by the confusingly named paramter "Perm" in
FileFd::Open() which is not actually the Permission bits but the mode
bits of open(). So 666 means something entirely different here in
fchmod() than in open().

[Bug 1304877] [NEW] Functions assigned to extra mouse buttons in compiz do not work anymore.

2014-04-09 Thread Aavo Tambur
Public bug reported:

This is in Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty beta.

Using CompizConfig Settings Manager I have assinged functions to my mouse's
buttons 8 and 9 (the thumb buttons).
After some recent update they stopped working, unless the desktop is focused.
I would expect that if I explicitly specify a mouse button for a function, it
must work globally.

[Bug 1003842] Re: dnsmasq sometimes fails to resolve private names in networks with non-equivalent nameservers

2014-04-09 Thread Vladimir
The same problem persists in 14.04. My DHCP server pushes two DNS
servers: primary (10.0.0.3), located inside the local network and
secondary (10.0.2.1), located in DMZ.

Primary server's zone includes records for some servers that are
accessible only from local network.

Periodically (maybe after lease renew?) computer with 14.04 could not
resolve local names which records are absent in seconary server's zone.

Workaround is to make internal view for secondary server's zone in order
to let computers from local network resolve such local names.

[Bug 1253620] Re: Can't open a LibreOffice native file via CIFS share

2014-04-09 Thread Ritesh Khadgaray
Hi @Andreas

essentially anything which requires glib to build, and is used by
libreoffice ( gvfs/dbus-glib/gtk ) from what I could see. Do raise
this issue with support ( http://www.canonical.com/services )to push
this in precise.

[Bug 1304403] Re: Precise to Trusty - all of main - fails: Broken transition from libkadm5srv-mit8 to libkadm5srv-mit9

2014-04-09 Thread Martin Pitt
Hey Sam,

> At a level deeper than "it causes apt to work correctly," why is
adding replaces a reasonable fix?

It indeed does not actually replace any files. This is purely to nudge
apt into doing the upgrade to libkadm5srv-mit9, as otherwise the Breaks
causes it to hold back half of the stack and remove krb5-multidev. So
yes, the "missing Replaces" was perhaps misleading. We'll drop that
change after trusty's release again, so it's only a temporary delta.

Do you see a better way to do that? This is the least intrusive and "not
particularly wrong" change that I saw to fix this.
