Can confirm that this is NOT resolved in Saucy running 3.11.0-15-generic. My computer is a Sony Vaio E Series laptop, model number SVE14A26CGS. Fan runs fine and responds to temperature changes upon initial boot but after suspend and then wake the fan goes to 100% and stays there until I reboot. I can confirm this problem and wonder if there is any 'real' solution ?
After upgrading to 13.10 there was no problem, until log rotate.
Previous files had 644 for root:adm, now 640 for root:adm
The cron-job for awstats runs as www-data as mention above.
This cause error message when job runs:

Just some additional info that might help narrowing down the cause. I see this same effect on a machine running Arch Linux. On this machine I use urxvt on top of the i3 window manager. (So not Gnome, KDE or Unity). Public bug reported: Hello, On a fresh and updated install of Kubuntu 14.04 LTS (developpement version) with yesterday's CD image on a computer which has nVidia Optimus, I installed the nvidia proprietary driver with the jockey-kde graphical user interface. It did install nvidia-settings. However, when trying to switch between graphic cards with the Prime settings from the nvidia-settings interface, it printed a Traceback relative to some gtk dependency missing. Installing the python-gtk2 package solved the problem. Maybe python-gtk2 should be a dependency of nvidia-xsettings? But, it's a bug important because I cannot upgrade distribution and I think that I'll go to format Ubuntu to put a new version of ubuntu 14.04 I think that is the best way. In my case it happend when showing all updates to be installed for the point ubuntu-core. when scrolling down the entrys for checking what's going to be installed, the mainframe of the updater shortly froze. It looked like some kind of pointer, cursor, texture, font or mainframe error. Something reatcted a little to slow... [Bug 1275227] [NEW] Computer froze completely upon ejecting firewire external hard drive

Today, I plugged in the drive, copied a number of files into it, and upon pushing the eject button in nautilus (as usual), the computer froze: mouse didn't move, couldn't switch to a tty to kill e.g. a rogue program, nothing. After a few seconds, I heard the fan going full speed, indicating that a program got stuck at 100% CPU usage. After a hard reboot, all is back to normal. First time this happens in the 2 years I've been using this laptop with ubuntu 12.04. Thanks for looking into this.
