is when I first met the issue. I never tried with 13.04 but I can if you
think that might be interesting.

[Bug 1236719] [NEW] [13.10] Can't use gnome shortcut keys with Gnome + XMonad

2013-10-08 Thread Mark Mandel
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 13.10, 64 bit with xmonad installed.

In 13.04, the shortcuts defined in the Gnome 'Keyboard' setting
application worked. Such as volume up, volume down, take a screenshot.

However, in 13.10, hitting those shortcut keys (Media volume up, for
example) does not do anything.

The shortcut keys do work in Unity however.

I'm guessing it's related to the following commits:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/?id=b0cee1df30b4945f524611f354ff164d4a383262
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/?id=50e3b5b4ea2b5fede8390baf8a19b33dbf047cc1

I assume since the keyboard shortcuts are no longer controlled by the
gnome-settings-daemon, they don't propagate through.

Not sure what the fix could be for this, but figured I would report it.

Let me know if I can provide any more details.

** Affects: xmonad (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1226623] Re: I cannot set a bookmark

2013-10-08 Thread Olivier Tilloy
There has been a bookmarking functionality for some time, but it was rather
hidden (was only accessible from the HUD).
It has recently been made more accessible. To (un)bookmark a page, open the
activity view, and tap the star icon for the corresponding page. In the
activity view, if you tap on the header, you can access a "Bookmarks" view that
lists all the current bookmark.
There is currently no facility to import existing bookmarks from other
browsers, if you need this functionality can you please file a separate bug?
Thanks.

[Bug 1200359] Re: Double logging a single time (tty1 +tty7)

2013-10-08 Thread Bib
Hi
Some news
For the purpose of another bug report I was required to test a mainline
kernel... then I forgot it.
Yesterday night I hibernated the laptop, and this morning, on thaw, I forgot
(again) to select from grub the standard kernel I was working in yesterday
(3.8.0-31) so I lost my session. Hopefully, regards to firefox and libreoffice
session restore, not all was lost. There apport suggested to report a bug, and
I was ready to do it when the popup reminded me this was related to the
mainline kernel, so I discarded the submission.
So I decided to remove the mainline test kernel (sudo apt-get purge
linux-image-3.12.0-031200rc3-generic).
On reboot, this 1200359 bug happened again: black screen with only the mouse
arrow, and switching to tty1 showing the characters loggin prompt ***and*** the
mouse cursor, in which I didn't login.
Switch back to tty7 and blindly logged in OK.
Then, just to see, switched back to tty1~6: all 6 seemed to show OK (but tty1
still showing the mouse arrow and a message stating something about system
update is OK and waiting for an acquitting Enter strike, and then a blinking
prompt undescore somewhere in the middle of the screen), but all tty
automatically switch me back to tty7 after a very short 3-4 second amount of
time. Althougth I reached to login a tty (don't remember which one) but it
still auto switched me to tty7. Although again with some difficulty, I reached
to quickly switch to the said ttyN and send an exit command before I was sent
back to tty7.
Then I rebooted and now all I working OK, no blank black screen, no auto-switch.
This makes me think both to the grub mechanism that keeps the menu on screen
when a crash happened or maybe to the tempo I set in /etc/default/grub.
I will attach the file.

[Bug 1236607] Re: cifs.ko should default to CIFSMaxBufSize=65535

2013-10-08 Thread Will Rouesnel
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected olivia third-party-packages

** Description changed:

Win 7 and other clients can handle a CIFS max buffer size of 64k, and
default to this value when talking to Windows or Linux SMB servers. The
practical effect of this is drag-drop file operations in Windows can run
at near gigabit speeds (80-90mb/s over a gigabit LAN) even when talking
  to a Linux Samba server.

The 'cifs' filesystem on the other hand struggles to achieve this by
default because it's buffer size is constrained to just 16k. Boosting
the buffer size with a modprobe.d options file like so:

  options cifs CIFSMaxBufSize=65536

  or even:

  options cifs CIFSMaxBufSize=130048

produces a speed up in file operations (as measured with rsync -W
between two mountpoints, or dd | pv | dd) which is on par with the speed
achieved by Windows - taking cifs from averaging 40-50 mb/s on my
machine, to the 80-90 mb/s the same machine running Windows (and talking
to a Linux samba server) can achieve.

- There doesn't seem to be any real downside to this in the common desktop
- use case in the modern age (memory is not a constraint), so shipping a
- modprobe.d cifs.conf file seems like a sensible way to close the
- perceived gap in user experience.

[Bug 1036830] Re: Can't log in unless remove .Xauthority or use gdm

2013-10-08 Thread Paul Reddy
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1228570 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1228570

I have the same problem on:

  Linux mythtv 3.8.0-31-generic #46-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 10 20:03:44 UTC 2013
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
  Ubuntu 13.04
  xfce

Fully up to date with patches.
Doesn't happen on every boot, but more than half of the time it does.
Since it runs mythtv and is our primary TV interface, the WAF is pretty low.
esp when it wont login and I'm not home.

>From a comment above - I've added an rm -f /home/paul/.Xauthority to
>/etc/rc.local.
I sure hope that's not going to have any consequences.

@vasilisc: if this happens again, I’d be interested in getting a copy of
your ~/.local/share/webbrowser-app/.QtWebKit directory, in order to
reproduce the issue and investigate it.

[Bug 1234653] Re: upstart-dbus-bridge --system is not started on boot

2013-10-08 Thread James Hunt
As the description shows, the reason we do not run the upstart-dbus-
bridge at the system level is due to security concerns.

Unless the Security Team feel otherwise, it is probably best to simply
document that this bridge does not run by default and if an admin wishes
to enable it, they can - we could potentially ship /etc/init/upstart-
dbus-bridge.conf along with an override file /etc/init/upstart-dbus-
bridge.override containing "manual" such that it is disabled by default
but could be enabled by removing the .override file.

Added the Security Team for their input.

[Bug 1236732] [NEW] IBus input method is marked as "off". Is this a problem?

2013-10-08 Thread clayton clent
Public bug reported:

I am running Lubuntu 12.10. I noticed a new icon this morning at the bottom
right hand corner of my screen. It is IBus 1.4.1 and the input method off box
is ticked. The Wikipedia page for IBus uses English words but not in any way
that is meaningful to me. I have no idea what this IBus thing is, what it is
for, whether I need it, or whether it should be turned on or off.

[Bug 1236733] [NEW] php 5.5.3 segfault

2013-10-08 Thread Paul Gauret
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I'm getting a systematic php segmentation fault when accessing my
Zenphoto http://www.zenphoto.org/ album (fresh install).

The following php packages are installed on the system (Saucy).

ii libapache2-mod-php5 5.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 amd64
  server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (Apache 2 module)
ii php55.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 all
  server-side, HTML-embedded scripting language (metapackage)
ii php5-common 5.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 amd64
Common files for packages built from the php5 source
ii php5-gd 5.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 amd64
  GD module for php5
ii php5-mysql 5.5.3+dfsg-1ubuntu1 amd64
  MySQL module for php5

The same code/config combo runs fine with php 5.3.10 on another server.
It also runs fine with PHP 5.5.4 from ppa:chris-lea/php5.5

In apache's log I only get:

[Tue Oct 08 09:48:36.746162 2013] [core:notice] [pid 8891] AH00052:
child pid 8896 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

After enabling core dumps, I could get a backtrace:
