[Bug 1130781] Re: Can't mount samba share with krb/multiuser at bootup in fstab

2013-10-03 Thread Steve Langasek
> I'm not sure if it doesn't auto-mount due to clock skew or not,

Well, this is exactly the diagnosis given in the message you linked to.
So if it's clock skew, it must be a bad system clock, or a bad clock
value in your BIOS clock.

> if I login and manually mount at as root, then it works fine.

That's not surprising, if the clock is being set from NTP immediately
afterwards. This could happen because the /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate
script which sets the clock also does this in the background, so if you
have a bad system clock and are getting the time from the network,
there's a race condition and the clock may not yet be set by the time
the attempt is made to mount the share.

> It's hard for me to troubleshoot this now as I was trying this in
> February & it is now October. This machine has long ago been rebuilt.

I take this to mean that you're no longer able to reproduce the problem.
The contents of the ntp package do certainly indicate a race condition,
so there's a real bug; but without further information about why this
was causing problems for you specifically, the theory is that this only
happens with a broken BIOS clock, so is a low priority to fix.

[Bug 1060907] Re: NetworkManager stores wifi passwords in plain text

2013-10-03 Thread Ingar Smedstad
It may look as this is an implementation problem rather than a problem
with Network Manager itself. Though I still believe that even allowing
passwords to be stored as text is a security flaw, it is possible to
configure NM so that it does not store passwords in text files. I have
tried KDE and had no problem saving the password in the Kwallet. I
wonder why Unity is not configured like KDE.

Is the problem with nm-connection-editor, NetworkManager or somewhere
else entirely? It may help if I can log a report with the right tool :=)

[Bug 1234546] [NEW] Plymouth screen refresh is bad when Live USB is started in UEFI mode

2013-10-03 Thread Romuald
Public bug reported:

Test computer : Dell XPS 13 L322x with Intel Graphics HD4000.

I burnt a Live Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 USB, first with the Beta 1, and with
the 2013-09-30 daily image. This USB key has been created with Rufus
under Windows and is compliant for both UEFI and Bios mode.

If I boot on the key in Bios mode, no problem, I see the first screen in
text mode (Install, test only...). After having chosen "test only", I
see the Gnome footprint and everything runs.

If I boot the key in UEFI mode (SecureBoot is disabled), I see the first
screen. After having chosen "test only", plymouth starts but the screen
refresh frequency is bad, so I have many footprints on the screen, etc.

Everything seems to run fine also, except this screen refresh frequency.

[Bug 1234552] [NEW] regression: calendar dropdown did not roll over to October

2013-10-03 Thread Nick Moffitt
Public bug reported:

My colleague and I regularly use the month-view calendar dropdown to
check times in particular time zones and to help work out numerical
dates such as "two Mondays prior to 25 Sept" and so on. This morning we
had a baffling conversation because he mentioned that 7 October was a
Saturday.

Looking at my calendar, I saw that he was correct, but then I realized
that it was showing me September (and yes, 7 Sept was a Saturday).
Skipping forward to October got me the right data.

This reminds me suspiciously of bug #649800 which I filed against the
Maverick beta back in 2010, and I suspect this is a regression.

[Bug 1060907] Re: NetworkManager stores wifi passwords in plain text

2013-10-03 Thread Ingar Smedstad
The problems I have identified so far:
1. If you have the rights org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.own
you will not be able to make a connection by selecting available networks.
2. The option "Available to all users" seems to be implied when you select a
connection from available networks.
3. When you give them org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system I
see no way of enforcing "Ask for this password every time"
4. Even when you make a connection that is not available to all users it still
stores the password as text in /etc/NM... and only add the user name that is
allowed to use the connection.

What we need is the possibility to create a connection by selecting it
from the list of available networks (eduroam) and have it so that the
password for each user is stored in the users wallet or keyring.

Hi The_Letter_J and thanks for your detailed answer. The script looks
handy in parts, but I don't get why you're trying to play back a
configuration file...

Having a look at your hardware, I notice that your bug is similar, but a
different one. In fact, just running a 3.5+ ubuntu kernel (or 3.6+
upstream kernel) fixes this bug completely, so it *must* be a different
bug. That's also why the symptoms are not exactly as described either.

In your case, you have unusual hardware: in addition to normal
headphones and stereo line out, you have 5.1 internal speakers. This
leads to unusual alsamixer names (e g "Speaker Front") which we do not
match for in PulseAudio. Fixing that means that we should add those
names in PulseAudio - but let's discuss that in a new bug instead.

Over 80% of audio bugs, including this one, are specific to the codec
*configuration*, which is usually best described with the PCI SSID
number or vendor+model. Bugs specific to a codec (Realtek ALC892) or
controller chip (Intel ICH6) are much less common.

The major exception to this rule is HDMI/Displayport audio or external
audio devices.

This backporting has already been done. Also, downloading Ubuntu LTS
today gives you an 3.8 kernel, so I think this bug is not that much of
an issue any more.

[Bug 1234565] [NEW] serious opengl bug in 13.04

2013-10-03 Thread wim de vries
Public bug reported:

Tested on two notebooks.
Bug appears only in the 13.04 version. 12.10 is OK.
Dubblechecked by booting a 12.10 version on USB stick (on the 13.04 notebooks).
Problem:
OpenGl shading language (GLSL) uniform variables seem to stay undefined, or
lose their value somewhere.
Tested with a WebGl app as well as a C++ (Qt) application.
This bug is also reported a driver issue.
If it is related to this driver issue, why is the (old) buggy driver
re-installed with 13.04?
thanks.

[Bug 1234549] Re: package pm-utils-powersave-policy 0.3.1 failed to install/upgrade: cannot access archive: No such file or directory

2013-10-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.3, 128 bits)
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 9.2.0

Not software rendered:no

GL vertex program:yes
GL fragment program: yes
GL vertex buffer object: yes
GL framebuffer object:yes
GL version is 1.4+: yes

Unity 3D supported: no

That looks a bit odd, it says that GL version 1.4 is supported.
I have tried forcing llvmpipe with LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 but that made no
difference.

[Bug 1234570] [NEW] With Mir - When an app is closed next app on 'Recent apps' opens

2013-10-03 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

Only reproduced with Mir enabled

TEST CASE:
1. Switch to the applications scope and from the 'Installed' category launch
the applications: Calculator, Calendar, Camera and Clock (wait until the
application is rendered before launching next)
2. Switch back to the application scope and verify that the 4 applications are
listed in 'Recent apps'
3. Long press on the thumbnail of the 1rst app (it should be Clock) to reveal
the 'Close' button
4. Tap 'Clock' thumbnail to close the clock application and wait a few seconds

EXPECTED RESULT
Application scope is still active and focused and user can do other actions on
this scope

ACTUAL RESULT:
Next application on the list opens (in this case 'Camera') after 2 seconds or
so, sometimes, next application on the list opens immediately.

[Bug 1075417] Re: Unity panel height and launcher width don't scale with system DPI/font settings

2013-10-03 Thread Otus
This makes Unity very difficult to use on retina-like screens, or even a
1080p 13" laptop (160 DPI). If you make fonts large enough to be
comfortably visible, text gets clipped.

The default theme's window decorations also look ugly, because the icons
are constant size... but that may be a different bug.

[Bug 1066464] Re: Please patch xserver-xorg-video-sis for Saucy and Raring (was: SiS driver crashes Xserver with EXA acceleration)

2013-10-03 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Daniel, could you backport a copy of patched xserver-xorg-video-sis
0.10.7-0ubuntu5 package for Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS HWE stack - just rename
the source and binary package to xserver-xorg-video-sis-lts-raring and
upload to your repository.

If you don't have free time for this then please upload sources of
patched xserver-xorg-video-sis 0.10.7-0ubuntu5 driver (with debian
folder) to http://code.launchpad.net or github.com - then I will try to
backport to xserver-xorg-video-sis-lts-raring Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS HWE
stack.

Thanks,
Mantas

The bug has been reported with an image around 50. I did make it
writable and installed debug symbols in order to debug something in
unity.

> Can you reproduce the crash at will?

Yes, I barely can reproduce the working case. In like 90% of the tries,
the cellular network connection fails.

Because I filled up / with debug symbols by now I can't upgrade to the
latest image, I'm going to flash the latest ubuntu-system now, enable
ofono debugging logs and reproduce the issue.

[Bug 1212455] Re: 8086:2562 Flash 11.2 content displays in shades of green and purple only, and in a horizontally compressed space

2013-10-03 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

In my testing with the Intel driver using its default acceleration, what
works:
  - Flash 11.2 works on Quantal with the 3.5 kernel
  - Flash 11.2 works on Raring with the 3.5.0-17 kernel (though it boots to a
low-res desktop with a frozen pointer)
  - Flash 11.2 works on Raring also with the 3.6.11-030611 or 3.7.10-030710
mainline kernels
  - Flash 11.2 works on Raring with the 3.8 kernel (in Chrome)

  what fails:
  - Flash 11.2 fails on Raring with the 3.8 kernel
  - Flash 11.2 fails on Raring with the latest mainline kernel, 3.11.0-031100rc5
  - Flash 11.2 fails on Saucy alpha 2 with its default kernel

Disabling Flash *hardware* acceleration altogether (via R-click in the
Flash display window: Settings: General tab) did not fix the problem.

WORKAROUND: Setting the Intel driver's acceleration method to UXA rather
than its default SNA *always* fixes the Flash problem, but causes a
garbled login screen under LightDM that so far has no workaround.

- I also tried one possible fix for the default Intel SNA acceleration using
the TearFree option. I created /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf with
contents:
- Section "Device"
-    Identifier "Intel Graphics"
-    Driver "intel"
-    Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
-    Option "TearFree""true"
- EndSection
- But this had no effect.
+ WORKAROUND: Adding to your xorg.conf :
+ Section "Screen"
+ Identifier "igd"
+ DefaultDepth 24
+ EndSection

[Bug 1014800] Re: infrared remote doesnt work anymore (3.2.0-26)

2013-10-03 Thread Julian Wiedmann
Landed in Quantal as

commit bd2c6675ad6c33e2130860ab513466bd9a4069e3
Author: Luis Henriques
Date: Tue Jun 19 11:29:49 2012 -0300

media: ene_ir: Fix driver initialisation

commit b31b021988fed9e3741a46918f14ba9b063811db upstream.

commit 9ef449c6b31bb6a8e6dedc24de475a3b8c79be20 ("[media] rc: Postpone ISR
registration") fixed an early ISR registration on several drivers. It did
however also introduced a bug by moving the invocation of pnp_port_start()
to the end of the probe function.

This patch fixes this issue by moving the invocation of pnp_port_start() to
an earlier stage in the probe function.

[Bug 1036830] Re: Can't log in unless remove .Xauthority or use gdm

As Timo says this is absolutely repeatable, on all my Saucy machines.
Log in via lightdm then login via ssh from another machine using ssh -X.
Logout ssh and logout locally, then cannot login via lightdm. Removing
.Xauthority fixes it. Bad .Xauthority attached.

[Bug 1234588] Re: Can't go back to the summary after opening a specific subpanel

2013-10-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
I'm making it also affect upstart-app-launch, since it's part of the
picture for the activation I think

Ted, do you have any idea about what would be the right way to solve the
issue? Is that a problem with the lens and the way it calls system-
settings?

** Changed in: upstart-app-launch (Ubuntu)

Assignee: (unassigned) => Ted Gould (ted)

[Bug 1234588] [NEW] Can't go back to the settings' list after opening a specific subpanel

2013-10-03 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

On the current touch image (75)

- open the sound indicator, click on "sound settings..."
- swipe from the left to go back to the dash
- search for "settings"
- click on the system-settings icon

-> the running instance is restored, on the sound settings ... since it
was open on a specific panel there is no "back" button to go back to the
list of settings.

Unless you manually force close the running instance it seems there is
no way to get to the other settings...

[Bug 1233784] Re: [mako]mediaplayer-app crashes on the latest image

2013-10-03 Thread Omer Akram
Fixed. I don't see any video (only audio works) but the app does not
crash. Will report a new bug for no video once I flash the very latest
image.

[Bug 1227656] Re: System Settings can start several gallery apps

2013-10-03 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
With 20131003, I cannot reproduce this defect but another - buggy - behaviour.
On step 3, instead of opening another instance of Gallery app, nothing happens
when I tap the picture on system settings to change the background i.e no new
gallery but it doesn't switch to gallery either.

Can you confirm this change or you still have the same bug.
