[Bug 1228737] Re: Ubiquity does not recommend to use 64-bit disk when ESP exists

2013-09-22 Thread YannUbuntu
> when booted in legacy (BIOS) mode there is no way to detect if machine
is in fact UEFI capable.

I know that, but I am giving you:
- a way to detect a case where there are very high chances that the install is
UEFI.
- a way to warn the user (and still giving him choice in case the boot is in
fact Legacy) thus avoid many failed Ubuntu installs.

> Please don't fork bugs without context.

This bug is not duplicate of "Ubuntu i386 images are not compatible with
32-bit UEFI computers. ", because it affects 64-bit computers.

> Also note that for 13.10 release we are planning to promote 64-bit
images by default.

Hopefully ! that decreases chances to see this bug, but that does not
fix it.

[Bug 1007841] Re: 11ab:4363 sky2 driver (Marvell Ethernet devices) problem after resume

2013-09-22 Thread Chris Cheney
** Description changed:

After resuming from suspend, a Marvel 88E8055 (wired NIC) will fail to
detect carrier (link is permanently down). Reloading the sky2 module
does not help - the module will fail to initialize the hardware and the
eth0 interfaces is gone until reboot.

The suspend/resume for this NIC has worked without issues in 10.10 and some
older releases I've had permanently installed. I haven't really tested this
with other releases that have come and gone since - which is the best course of
action here:
  - testing older releases, or
  - obtaining older kernel versions (from mainline ppa?) and testing those?

[Bug 1228727] Re: qjackctl does not show USB soundcard

2013-09-22 Thread zasran
Didn't occur to me to try it before, yes, the little '>' buttons the the
right of interface, input and output dropdowns shows different values,
including hw:2.

It's pretty confusing, the tooltips don't help much either, they seem to
say the same thing:

Interface dropdown tooltip: 'The PCM device name to use'
Interface '>' tooltip: 'Select PCM device name'

Input device dropdown tooltip: 'Alternate input device for capture'
Input device '>' tooltip: 'Select input device for capture'

Output device dropdown tooltip: 'Alternate output device for playback'
Output device '>' tooltip: 'Select output device for playback'

The values for all dropdown menus are:
  - (default)
  - /dev/dsp
  - /dev/audio
  - plughw:0
  - hw:0

The values for all '>' menus:
  - hw:0 HD-Audio Generic
  - hw:1 HDA ATI SB
  - hw:1,0 ALC892 Analog
  - hw:2 BR-80(AUDIO)
  - hw:2,0 USB Audio
  - (default)

Selecting Interface hw:2 BR-80(AUDIO) works, qjackctl starts jackd
successfully and both recording and playback work (tested using
ardour2).

Guess it's less of a bug than I originally thought but it would be great
if it was explained what the two selectors (dropdown and '>' button) are
and why they have different values. Maybe it would be possible to
consolidate the two into one selection menu?

[Bug 1155819] Re: Plugging in Logitech G930 USB headset breaks mouse click behaviour

2013-09-22 Thread gbonvehi
I had this problem and was able to temporarily fix it by following
instructions from here:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-926996-start-0.html

Note: I've tested this on Slackware 14 but it should work on any distro
as seems to be caused by the kernel and/or Xorg.

2013-09-22 Thread Asa Zernik
Another interesting note - while turning bluetooth back on through the
settings window fails for me in the way Anmar described, turning it on
with my laptop's airplane-mode button works, so below a certain layer
the bluetooth stack is working here.

On recent Ubuntus, Banshee doesn't have the Quit option any more. It'll shutdown
if you pause/stop playback and then exit the window.

[Bug 1228044] Re: Not translatable string "Search social network messages" in Unity Saucy

There is an extra space in POTFILES.in. The line

[type: gettext/ini] data/social.scope.in.in

should be just

[type: gettext/ini]data/social.scope.in.in

Thanks for fixing this typo.

[Bug 1225305] Re: Input method config is completely translated in Saucy in Russian but shows untranslated

2013-09-22 Thread Yuri Chornoivan
im-config desktop file is available for manual translation only:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/im-
config.git;a=blob;f=po/Makefile;h=b20594a4da27e3b1189a1d67958901893e5a19c3;hb=HEAD

http://sources.debian.net/src/im-config/0.22-3/im-config.desktop

So you can send your translation upstream or patch it in Ubuntu. There
is no way to translate it with LP/Rosetta now.

[Bug 1228798] [NEW] Mini display port not working

2013-09-22 Thread callum
Public bug reported:

I am trying to use the mini display port to connect to an external
monitor using the mini display port. I have confirmed this works using
another laptop. When plugging this into my Ubuntu machine (Dell XPS17)
the monitor is not detected.

There is no screen flash or anything in the Xorg log or dmseg that
suggests the port has been plugged in.

I have tried adding the monitor using the following:
xrandr --addmode DP1 "800x600"
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 800x600 --right-of LVDS1

Which results in the laptop screen flashing but not the external monitor
and the following is printed to the terminal:

xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed

xrandr -q gives the following:

 xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x
214mm
   1600x900 60.3*+
   1440x900 59.9
   1360x768 59.8 60.0
   1152x864 60.0
   1024x768 60.0
   800x60060.3 56.2
   640x48059.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   800x60060.3

I have also tried updating to the latest intel driver by using:

intel-linux-graphics-installer

This succeeded however has not solved my issue.

I also have bumblebee installed however I understand that on this
machine the mini display port runs from the intel chip so this should
not be impacting this issue. I include this information incase it might.

I am more that happy to run any diagnostics required to help resolve
this issue.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

[Bug 1228689] Re: sony vaio pro 13 internal microphone not working

2013-09-22 Thread Raymond
why do you overwrite pcm.default and ctl.default if you are running
puseaudio server

pcm.!default {
   type hw
   card 1
}
ctl.!default {
   type hw
   card 1
}

the internal mic is not availbable when you plug the external mic ?

control.14 {
iface CARD
name 'Mic Jack'
value true
comment {
access read
type BOOLEAN
count 1
}
}
control.15 {

analog-input-microphone: Microphone (priority: 8700, available)

is there any reason to use module-combine when your hdmi is broken

[Bug 1007841] Re: 11ab:4363 sky2 driver (Marvell Ethernet devices) problem after resume

2013-09-22 Thread mlx
Hello Chris.
Regarding bug progress - sorry, no. I'm not that experienced with kernel code
and building modules.
With that said, I have installed Arch some 2 months ago (kernel 3.10, now it's
at 3.11), and a month ago a daily build of Kubuntu 13.10 (kernel
3.11-rc-something, now updated to stable 3.11). While I've used each only for
about 2 weeks, I don't recall this bug occurring even once - I certainly cannot
induce it by suspending and resuming immediately, something that DOES happen
with Kubuntu 12.10, which I also keep around.
I suggest you try a new kernel and see what it does.

[Bug 1007841] Re: 11ab:4363 sky2 driver (Marvell Ethernet devices) problem after resume

2013-09-22 Thread mlx

  Upstream contacted: http://www.spinics.net/lists/netdev/msg203017.html
+
+ WORKAROUND:
+ Delete the NIC from the system and have kernel perform a rescan on the PCI
bus:
+ echo 1 > /sys/class/net/eth0/device/remove ; sleep 1;\
+ echo 1 > /sys/class/pci_bus/\:00/rescan
+
+ Adjust PCI bus number as appropriate.

[Bug 986724] Re: [Samsung NP900X3B-A01US] Lid state changes not detected

2013-09-22 Thread Ayberk Özgür
My lid close events started getting detected recently. I have the event
trigger sleep; however, I have to wait approximately 10 seconds after
physically closing the lid before it happens. My configuration is:

-Samsung NP900X4C
-Kubuntu 12.04.2
-Kernel 3.10.4-031004-generic
-BIOS P08ABK

My /etc/default/grub has the following line:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi='!Windows 2012'"

Still, lid open events are not detected no matter how long I wait during
the sleep. The power button has to be pushed in order to wake the
machine up.
