[Bug 1222053] [NEW] per-session gsettings overrides

2013-09-07 Thread Tim
Public bug reported:

There have been several occasions now where Ubuntu GNOME has had to
patch code, that could in theory instead be handled by per-session
gsettings overrides. A recent example is the background plugin in gnome-
settings-daemon, this should be loaded under unity, gnome-flashback
sessions but not gnome-shell session. A per-session override would make
this possible without any patches to the codebase.

As I understand it the overrides are processed by glib-compile-schemas
so perhaps we would have to recompile schemas on each login to achieve
this? Any thoughts on how we can achieve this?

** Affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1127815] Re: [Asus P6X58-E PRO, Realtek ALC889, Green Line Out, Rear] Background noise or low volume

2013-09-07 Thread Ekangas81
Lots of background noise whenever turning up the volume.

I tried this on Ubuntu 13.04 also, no luck.
I got this same problem after trying out multiple distros on the same PC. I
don't get this problem in Windows 7 Ultimate at all.

I followed this article to uninstall PulseAudio
http://www.hecticgeek.com/2012/01/how-to-remove-pulseaudio-use-alsa-ubuntu-linux/
still no help.

I verified that my Maaster and PCM volumes are not zero, and tried
various different settings.

[Bug 1222053] Re: per-session gsettings overrides

2013-09-07 Thread Tim
** Description changed:

There have been several occasions now where Ubuntu GNOME has had to
patch code, that could in theory instead be handled by per-session
gsettings overrides. A recent example is the background plugin in gnome-
- settings-daemon, this should be loaded under unity, gnome-flashback
- sessions but not gnome-shell session. A per-session override would make
- this possible without any patches to the codebase.
+ settings-daemon (LP: #1219148), this should be loaded under unity,
+ gnome-flashback sessions but not gnome-shell session. A per-session
+ override would make this possible without any patches to the codebase.

As I understand it the overrides are processed by glib-compile-schemas
so perhaps we would have to recompile schemas on each login to achieve
this? Any thoughts on how we can achieve this?

[Bug 1222070] [NEW] Kernel Panic --not syncing fatal exception in interrupt

2013-09-07 Thread Chascon
Public bug reported:

Using the infrared remote control results in a kernel panic. This is
reproducible using mplayer.

1) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu Saucy Salamander (development branch)
Release:13.10
2) apt-cache policy linux
linux:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.11.0.4.5
  Version table:
 3.11.0.4.5 0
500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ saucy/main i386 Packages

uname -r
3.11.0-4-generic

apt-cache policy mplayer
mplayer:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn34540-1ubuntu4
  Version table:
 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn34540-1ubuntu4 0

 2:1.0~rc4.dfsg1+svn34540-1ubuntu2 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) I expect to use the infrared remote successfully, without resulting in a
kernel panic.
4) Audio loops like a scratched record, computer hard locks so that the
keyboard becomes entirely unresponsive: no escaping to a tty, keyboard capslock
doesn't light up, screen goes to tty1 and outputs "Kernel Panic --not syncing
fatal exception in interrupt", and SysRq-cntrl-alt-r does not reboot the
computer.

[Bug 1221544] Re: Choice of destination folder for Screenshot lost

2013-09-07 Thread Rowan Berkeley
Hey, the option's reappeared now. There was a kernel update with
associated tweaks & twiddles today, maybe that fixed it. Or maybe the
option was there all along and I somehow missed it. So this bug can be
written off as fixed, if it existed in the first place. But I would
still like to see some response to my https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/1208719";>previous
bug report, hopefully including an intention to finally restore the
progress bar for unread mail across the Thunderbird launcher, because
this is a major asset of convenience, being visible from across the
room, unlike other forms of email alert.

[Bug 1222071] [NEW] Inconsistent wording for Time & Date settings

2013-09-07 Thread Kevin Godby
Public bug reported:

The name of the settings icon in the System Settings window is "Time &
Date". The name of the menu option when clicking on the clock in the
menu bar is "Date & Time settings...".

I'd suggest making these names consistent.

[Bug 1200519] Re: "service openvpn restart" broken. Stop returns before finishing.

2013-09-07 Thread Avery-yates
Still "Upload pending" on debian. making an 2.3.2-4ubuntu2 with the fix
included would not be a bad idea at this point imo.
The version that would eventually trickle down from debian would be the same
anyway.

Regards.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend
performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections and using software tools
to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event that is is not
in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's status back to
New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1222071] Re: Inconsistent wording for Time & Date settings

2013-09-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1222071/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1208204] Re: indicator-sound no longer functions with xfce4-indicator-plugin

2013-09-07 Thread Alistair Buxton
Ok - there's two things going on here.

First, when you get the bluetooth icon with an empty menu, that isn't
indicator-bluetooth. It is blueman, which uses appindicator. Something
is wrong there so it sends an empty menu.

Second, indicator-bluetooth is also broken - but in this case it's so
broken it doesn't appear at all. It is trying to create a menu of
com.canonical.indicator.switch, but this menu model cannot be found. It
isn't part of IDO, and I don't know where it is supposed to come from.

[Bug 1222091] [NEW] scripts for event=button/lid do not exist, hibernation on lid closed is missing

2013-09-07 Thread Paul Ortyl
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to Ubuntu 13.10 (on 7.09.2013) hibernation on lid closed
does not work any more.

All Settings/Power "When the lid is closed" is set to Hibernate.

[Bug 863218] Re: No desktop (gtk) Qt style in skype:i386

2013-09-07 Thread Leonid Evdokimov
After upgrade 12.10 (quantal) to 13.04 (raring) skype lost proper style
on my amd64 laptop with following warnings:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module"
Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "murrine",

Installing these two packages solved problem for me: libcanberra-gtk-
module:i386 gtk2-engines-murrine:i386

I have no idea what gtk style/engine/module is used nowadays, but my
desktop settings are almost default :)

[Bug 1222096] [NEW] "Software Updater" popup displays every hour

2013-09-07 Thread drunken monkey
Public bug reported:

Since yesterday, the "Software Updater" popup is displayed about hourly, no
matter whether there are updates available. It'll usually only read "The
software on this computer is up to date.", I'll click "OK" and an hour or so
later it pops up again.
Updating, if there are updates, works fine, so it's not a big problem, but it's
still annoying.
