[Bug 980469] Re: psmouse doesn't work when come out of suspend

2013-08-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Hugh Perkins, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal

and attach updated debug information to this report:

[Bug 979801] Re: resume from suspend still fails

2013-08-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Andreas Hohenegger, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Description changed:

- I am opening a new bug for this issue because the previously reported bug
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/785078
- does not allow me to submit requested details as it was reported by others.
No information about the current state was provided by the previous reporters.
-
The symptom is that occasionaly after resume from suspend or hibernate
(possibly only if both are used after each other) the system does not
restore. Instead the screen is in console mode and shows a message like

PM: Device 00:0b failed to resume: error -19

It is not possible to change to a terminal or perform any other action
than forced shutdown. So the complete workspace is lost. The message
above is sometimes also shown after successfull resume so it does not
need to be the reason for the system freeze. I will try provide more
information as soon as the bug shows in my logs.

My system is the current ubuntu 11.10 on a Lenovo thinkpad T61 (same as
that of previous reporters) with intel grapics. No ultrabay connected
(this has been an issue in previous reports).

[Bug 1200775] Re: apturl-gtk crashed with AttributeError in __init__(): 'InstallBackendAptdaemon' object has no attribute 'connect'

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas C.
I got the crash too, but have not enabled folder sharing, only desktop
sharing (vino).

What I see, that in firefox apt urls dont work. But I have url handler
definied like this:

network.protocol-handler.app.apt = /usr/bin/apturl

in about config.

Possible the crash come from a try to open the apt-url. But I got it
displayed after a new login to the desktop.

[Bug 1174275] Re: Random system freeze in 13.04

2013-08-23 Thread MorrisseyJ
This is a frustrating problem.

Since filing this bug i have reverted to 12.04, which also went about
freezing randomly.

It seems though that freezing is limited to when the machine is on
battery power - i am still testing this but haven't had a freeze on
mains power for a long while. That has lead me to believe that it is a
wireless card problem, which also possibly explains all the issues i
described above.

I have a broadcom BCM43228 wireless card and had originally been running
the driver through the additional drivers dialogue. I have since removed
that (bcmwl-kernel-source) and built again from scratch, using the
patches included here: http://www.mindwerks.net/2012/06/wireless-bcm4312
-with-the-3-4-and-3-5-kernel/

Was on battery power for about 5 hours last night and no freeze. I will
continue testing today.

If this works i might try and go back to 13.04 and build the driver
again there.

@Orionds: if you have the same wireless card on your machines running
13.04, perhaps you could give this a try .

[Bug 983059] Re: snd-hda-intel powersave option and "CLICK" from speakers (Ubuntu 12.04)

2013-08-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
palimmo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Description changed:

- I report this bug because is still valid in Ubuntu 12.04 and the previous bug
(#381201) status was set to "Won't fix".
- The comment #65 gives the right solution to avoid that CLICK from the speaker.

apport-collect -p linux 1213719
apport-collect -p alsa-base 1213719

instead of opening new bug reports?

[Bug 1215798] [NEW] losing windows

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas C.
Public bug reported:

I found, that gnome-shell lose some windows.

I see it in two ways:

1. gnome-terminal: after a restart - with ALT+F2 -> r or kill -HUP
$(pgrep gnome-shell|head -n1) a terminal windows can not be opened any
more, but is listed in ALT+TAB list (I add a video)

2. remmina: I opened a connection and sometimes the window is jist not
to see any more - also not in ALT+TAB. But it must there, when I open a
new connection in a other group I get a new window. When I open a new
connection in the same group as the lost windows (it get normally
attached as a new tab to the window) it get a connect to the server, but
not the window. I can see on the terminal server and netstat, that the
connection is established.

[Bug 1213998] Re: [needs-packaging] youker-assistant

2013-08-23 Thread Daniel Holbach
Here another very quick review until somebody in -desktop can have another look:
 - the tarball contains .bzr - you might want to remove it from there
 - http://paste.ubuntu.com/6016797/ has uncovered a few more issues, of which
  - desktop-entry-lacks-keywords-entry might be interesting to fix
  - package-contains-empty-directory might be a problem (should files be
installed there?)
  - comma-separated-files-in-dep5-copyright should be very easy to fix

[Bug 989071] Re: 046d:c52b USB keyboard isn't automatically detected

2013-08-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
typo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1215741] Re: upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 on ppc failed

2013-08-23 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1215741/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

When I retrieve data entered via kexi any single ' quotes are replaces with

Eg. 'The Berea' shows up as ""The Berea"".

Whether I retrieve the data via kexi or via a direct sql query on the
database makes no difference.

Reproducible: Always

[Bug 1215798] Re: losing windows

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas C.
ok, now I killed the whole reminna app :(

thats the output, when I only have the tray icon open:

xwininfo -tree -root | grep -i remmina
 0x2e00141 "Remmina": ("remmina" "Remmina") 207x327+894+27 +894+27
 0x2e002a7 "Remmina": ("remmina" "Remmina") 305x873+1102+27 +1102+27
 0x2e03b1f "Remmina": ("remmina" "Remmina") 335x330+1102+116 +1102+116
 0x2e03dfa "Remmina": ("remmina" "Remmina") 305x873+1102+27 +1102+27
 0x2e039dc "Remmina": () 10x10+-100+-100 +-100+-100
 0x2e1 "Remmina": ("remmina" "Remmina") 10x10+10+10 +10+10
   0x2e000de "Remmina": ("remmina-icon" "remmina-icon") 30x24+0+0
+894+1

I report again, when iI hit the bug again. Any hints what I can try to
reopen the window... I tryd this:

for id in $(xdotool search --name Remmina); do xdotool windowraise $id; done
and
for id in $(xdotool search --name Remmina); do xdotool windowmap $id; done

the first did nothing... the second opened a pixel window, which i could
resize.. but with no content... then I killed the window with xkill and
lost all.

[Bug 1215741] Re: upgrade from 10.04 to 12.04 on ppc failed

2013-08-23 Thread hn
Possible reason / resolution:

I installed ubuntu-desktop, updated software sources, removed the "main"
source which gave errors by replacing archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu with
ports.ubuntu.com -- now the upgrade process works.

So, possible reason for the upgrade to fail was : bad software source,
with lucid for ppc being moved from archive to ports.

[Bug 1213879] Re: kernel fault ovs 1.10.1 + linux 3.11

2013-08-23 Thread James Page
@Joseph

3.10 was OK; the problem is that openvswitch expects to be able to
register a protocol hander for GRE; however the kernel has already done
this so it fails.

I think this then results in some badness later on openvswitch.

I'm trying to figure out how to replace the default GRE protocol hander
from within the openvswitch module with its own implementation.

[Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2013-08-23 Thread Aditya
Thanks Marwan for the detailed description of the bug.
I just posted this as a fix for the users who were unable to change brightness,
and I had no idea how deep the roots of this bug are.

In my case, both acpi_video0 and acpi_video1 do not work, i.e. the brightness
does not change and the system is functional.
When I use acpi_backlight=vendor things are different even if I disable
nmi_watchdog .

Are there any tests that I run?

Indeed I didn't have this issue anymore after making various changes to

is solved in the stock kernels though. I also cannot make tests because
I am not working with this system anymore. You may consider it as 'works

[Bug 1215822] [NEW] Sync oss-compat 4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-08-23 Thread Jackson Doak
Public bug reported:

Please sync oss-compat 4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
It fixes an RC bug.

Changelog entries since current saucy version 3:

oss-compat (4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Remove oss-compat.conf when removing the package, so it doesn't load
the OSS modules when configured but not installed. (Closes: #718241.)
  * Remove the OSS modules when removing the package. If anything is using
the modules, they are queued for removal as soon as they are freed.
  * Switch to debhelper compat level 9.
  * Only recommend osspd on Ubuntu and derivatives; suggest it on Debian
for now (we need to get the updated prerm or drop the OSS modules from
the kernel before transitioning to osspd).

2013-08-23 Thread Thomas C.
when I understand it right, is a withdrawn windows just in a minimized
state: http://effbot.org/tkinterbook/wm.htm#Tkinter.Wm.withdraw-method

so I can do this, but:

xdotool windowactivate 48284484
XGetWindowProperty[_NET_WM_DESKTOP] failed (code=1)

Looks like _NET_WM_DESKTOP properties get lost on the window.

[Bug 1205713] Re: unable to type Greek characters to the dash

2013-08-23 Thread Filippos Kolyvas
I'm sorry, i cannot understand what the phrase 'this bug is no resolve'
means, does it mean that the bug *will not be resolved*, that *will not
be resolved yet* or that *it cannot be resolved*?

The situation now is that we no longer can change the keyboard layout with just
one shortcut, but we have to use two.
Also, we cannot set the shortcut just like eny other distribution to Alt+Shift
or Caps Lock (that i use), but we have to use the Super key+ simething, so that
every time we change the keyboard layout, the Launcher appears.
One other thing, is that the keyboard indication is set to *En* and it does not
change even if the keyboard layout changes to *Gr*.

Ok, i'm truly sorry if that sounds (or reads) somewhat saucy (pun fully
intended), but this really is not 'fix commited', this is hiding a problem
while creating another, possibly bigger one.
I would surely rather not having the option to type in Greek to the Dash, than
adding two keys in my keyboard layout shortcut and not beeing able to see what
my current layout is.
Any info on what the plans for the matter are, would be appreciated.

[Bug 1215826] [NEW] Lost ability to remap Caps Lock to Ctrl

2013-08-23 Thread David Leal
Public bug reported:

After the last update (today) I am no longer able to remap Caps Lock to
Ctrl. I tried to set XKBOPTIONS in /etc/default/keyboard but that only
seems to work for a few brief seconds. The same happens if I invoke
"setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps" on the console. It works for a few
seconds, then Caps Lock reverts to its Caps Lock-y behavior.

[Bug 1193522] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_action_get_name()

2013-08-23 Thread Minoru Yanagisawa
I removed 'dropbox_1.6.0_amd64.deb' and reinstall from source file
'nautilus-dropbox-1.4.0.tar.bz2' downloaded from Dropbox site. Then I can have
accessed files in Dropbox folder without any crash.
Somehow I can see Dropbox icon on main Ubuntu bar upper-right side, different
from Stoimenov's case.

I'm using Ubuntu Saucy Salamander (development branch), 3.11.0-3 x86_64
kernel and GNOME nautilus 3.8.2.

[Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

2013-08-23 Thread Chas Emerick
Another data point; I had posted over at
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2168780, but recently found
this bug based on kernel crash syslog entries.

Anyway, I'm on a Macbook 4,2 FWIW:

$ uname -a
Linux cle-mba 3.8.0-29-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 13 19:40:39 UTC 2013

partial syslog:

Aug 22 13:17:49 cle-mba kernel: [78499.977886] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung]
*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
Aug 22 13:17:49 cle-mba kernel: [78499.977892] [drm] capturing error event;
look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state

Attached i915_error_state from the same event.

Note that I used to have i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 in my grub options, but
removed it in an attempt to eliminate the hangs/crashes based on
recommendations on a random forum thread. :-P Behaviour has been
unaffected; I get a GPU hang or window manager crash (i.e. have to
"recover" via tty1) ~every other day.

2013-08-23 Thread Richard Elkins
My crash just happened when I logged in! (-:

Even without a crash, the audio volume control widget consistently hides the

In effect, the xfce4-indicator-plugin audio widget is totally unusable.
Work-around: Copy the Pulse Audio Volume Control widget to Panel 0 (awkward but
functional).

[Bug 1215836] [NEW] Sync xfonts-terminus 4.38-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2013-08-23 Thread Jackson Doak
Public bug reported:

Please sync xfonts-terminus 4.38-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * New upstream releases (4.36 and 4.38).
The ubuntu delta was created just so we had a garantee for saucy. Since debian
now has the latest version, this is a sync.

Changelog entries since current saucy version 4.38-0ubuntu1:

xfonts-terminus (4.38-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream releases (4.36 and 4.38), closes: #716800.
- Some new symbols (quotedblreversed, I/i/U/u dotbelow)
- Changes in few symbols.
- New 22 pseudographic symbols.
  * Run "xset fp rehash" in the postinst if possible. Thanks to
gennady.kupava, closes: #690549.

oss-compat (4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Remove oss-compat.conf when removing the package, so it doesn't load
the OSS modules when configured but not installed. (Closes: #718241.)
  * Remove the OSS modules when removing the package. If anything is using
the modules, they are queued for removal as soon as they are freed.
  * Switch to debhelper compat level 9.

the kernel before transitioning to osspd).
