[Bug 1048590] Re: Proxy setting is not applied to Online Accounts (ex: Google)

2013-07-29 Thread Paolo
Using version 8.49 of signond here, and have the problem with automatic
proxy. Changing to manual is not an option, the (corporate) proxy script
is 153 lines long, as various corporate services need to be accessed
directly. Do we need to open a new bug?

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#New_upstream_microreleases
in particular.

If the version in Precise is completely unusable, then I think an SRU
would be reasonable. Or if all the changes through to 0.9.13 meet the
SRU criteria. So does 0.9.5 -> 0.9.13 only fix bugs, or add new
features as well? And is the current version completely unusable for all
users, or only unusable for a specific subset?

If an update does not meet SRU criteria, then another option is a
backport: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

Please could you investigate, comment on which route is appropriate, and
justify the criteria?

[Bug 796076] Re: When run as root [gksudo gedit ] gedit tries to open a 2nd 'untitled document 1'

2013-07-29 Thread Paddy Landau
> … it also makes things easier to chown the file to my username so I
don't need to type in "sudo ggedit" just "ggedit"

You don't have to use sudo, regardless of who owns the script.
Additionally, you should use gksudo, not sudo — which is already in the
one-line script, to save you the trouble of typing it. Just enter
"ggedit" by itself.

[Bug 1206043] [NEW] "Failed to load the package list" alert is too tall

2013-07-29 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:

update-manager, Ubuntu 13.04 (I can't tell what version of update-
manager this is, because apt-cache won't run)

The "Failed to load the package list" error alert has too much vertical
padding.

This is usually a symptom of a GTK2 alert that has not yet been ported
to GTK3.

[Bug 1206047] [NEW] typo? in /etc/cron.daily/apt : MinAgeSec variable does not exist

2013-07-29 Thread MMlosh
Public bug reported:

apt 0.9.7.7ubuntu4 (Current version in Raring)

I set apt verbosity to 3 and noticed missing information in the output
/etc/cron.daily/apt

It turned out that the debug lines use variable "MinAgeSec", which
doesn't exist.

/etc/cron.daily/apt:199 if [ $delta -le $MinAge ]; then debug_echo "skip remove
by archive size:  $file, delta=$delta < $MinAgeSec" )
By the context I am sure that it was recently renamed and it should be "MinAge"

[Bug 1190389] Re: package cpufreqd 2.4.2-2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 134

2013-07-29 Thread Niall Brosnan
I have the same error with cpufreqd.
My CPU is an AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56
Kernel module is powernow-k8, and cpufreq-set can successfully be used
manually.
Bug report tool sent me here to add any comment, as this report is identical to
my own.

[Bug 1173723] [Regression 3.5->3.6, bisected] gspca_ov534: kernel oops when connecting Hercules Blog Webcam

2013-07-29 Thread SlavikZ
Hi!

After update from 3.5 kernel to newer version I got kernel oops when I
connect my Hercules Blog Webcam. The full error stacktrace is at the end
of this e-mail.

Commit bisect revealed the regression at:
-
1bd7d6adc691993206cf7dd69f1aaf8dccb06677 is the first bad commit
commit 1bd7d6adc691993206cf7dd69f1aaf8dccb06677

I also try to change the gspca_ov534 module source (ov534.c) from the
3.8 kernel and added some additional null checks in sd_start function
and add the extensive logging to it. With those changes my webcam is
working OK. As far as I can see, sd_start function is called couple of
times, but when it is called the first time (when a usb cable was
inserted), sd struct is almost empty and without null check this leads
to kernel oops. Here is the part of test version log when sd_start was
called first time:

sd_start: NO sd->hue!
sd_start: NO sd->saturation!
sd_start: NO sd->autogain!
sd_start: NO sd->autowhitebalance!
sd_start: NO sd->autoexposure!
sd_start: NO sd->gain!
sd_start: NO sd->exposure!
sd_start: NO sd->brightness!
sd_start: NO sd->contrast!
sd_start: NO sd->sharpness!
sd_start: NO sd->hflip and sd->vflip!
sd_start: NO sd->plfreq!

Problem description:

I ran into this problem last year, in the same month, and here I am
again. This section of code is in /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/soffice:

The gentoo developers rightly refer to this code as "completely broken", as it
causes LibreOffice to puke on launch when trying to determine the month string
of its working directory if used on a system for which certain months use
non-standard characters.

For instance, in Gremany, the current month is "März." Launching LO any
time between now and 2013-04-01 will cause LO to fail with the following
error:

-
$ libreoffice
ls: error initializing month strings
/usr/bin/libreoffice: line 58: cd: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 38 10.
Mä/usr/lib64/libreoffice/program: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/libreoffice: line 180: /usr/bin/oosplash: No such file or directory

Steps to reproduce:
1. set the filesystem locale to German (any variant)
2. try to launch LO in the month of March
3. cry

Current behavior: the launcher pukes

Expected behavior: the launcher could maybe use a coreutil that is
pretty good at reading month strings? In any case, it should launch
properly.

Cheers,

The script should be locale independent. Set LC_ALL=C to do this.

Unconditionally overwriting locale settings might have unintended
consequences for the started LibreOffice program. Thus I have written
two alternative patches:

1. libreoffice_bug62192_minimal_fix.patch
 This fixes the offending 'ls' call only.

2. libreoffice_bug62192_involved_fix.patch
 This saves the current LC_ALL setting, sets the POSIX locale for (most of) the
script, and restores the original setting before exec'ing the LibreOffice
binary.

The minimal fix seems quite safe, but the more invovled one should be
tested on several different systems.

BTW, this bug is not reproducible with Debian GNU/Linux (checked, old
stable, stable and unstable), because the GNU sed used copes with non-
ASCII input.

[Bug 1206060] [NEW] xrandr-tool crashes when providing one argument

[Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?

2013-07-29 Thread Jonas Platte
Since I reinstalled my system (13.10) in UEFI mode, this bug even occurs
more often. Before it only occured about every second start.

I've got a SATA II SSD, and a Haswell i5 CPU which also handles the
graphics.

The special thing about the bug for me is that I am never able to start
or restart lightdm manually. It shows a blinking cursor on a black
screen like on the most boots. Even when the boot works normally, I
sometimes get the black screen again when logging out.

[Bug 1179966] Re: Please upgrade python-pika to 0.9.12

2013-07-29 Thread Robie Basak
I appreciate that the Pika developers say that it should not be used by
anyone. Nevertheless, 12.04 was released with that version, and people
may be using it today. We cannot undermine the stability of the stable
release by just updating without considering SRU criteria.

It is not reasonable to break existing users of the stable release, so
we must be careful not to do so. If nobody is willing to take this care,
then the stable release will not be updated.

I'd love to see this fixed, but if nobody is able to answer my questions
in comment #6, then I don't think this bug will be able to make any
progress in terms of an update for 12.04.

Have you considered driving 0.9.13 into the backports repository? This
doesn't really require anything except for backporting the package and
testing it, since it cannot break existing users.

[Bug 1206072] Crash report cannot be processed

2013-07-29 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

outdated debug symbol package for libexpat1: package version 2.1.0-4
dbgsym version 2.1.0-2

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

No, it is wrong, and the command or 'usb' executable file is inside filesystem,
nothing to do with 'dmesg' output.

[Bug 1205284] Re: linux-tools naming is not scalable to multiple source packages

2013-07-29 Thread Andy Whitcroft
/me will bring a sample patch set to sprint for this.

** Description changed:

- We need to sort out naming for linux-tools as it is not sensible in the
- face of multiple source packages.
+ The linux tools packages are not currently scalable to multiple source
+ package branches. This is because the packages are actually per
+ architecture (not flavour) in both contents and naming but may differ
+ between source packages which may be at different versions. This prevents
+ us safely emitting linux-tools packages from branches other than master.
+
+ We have a policy of insulating people from the source package from which a
+ kernel comes. We do this via the linux-- package naming,
+ which is consistant regardless of overall package. It therefore makes
+ a lot of sense to extend this to the tools package. Such that we would
+ have the following user consumable packages as below:
+
+ linux-tools- -- tools to match linux-image-
+ linux-tools--   -- tools to match
linux-image--
+
+ In order to allow linux-tools to be still be a valid install target the
+ first of these would additionally Provides: linux-tools to allow simple
+ selection of the appropriate flavour specific package where there is only
+ one, or to help the user make an informed choice where there is more.
+
+ The first would be the logical choice when wanting to maintain tools
+ installed for all future version of the kernel, mirroring the kernels as
+ installed by the linux- and linux-image- packages and
+ keeping the user up to date in tools. The second would be the appropriate
+ package to request installation when trying to target a specific
+ kernel version and would be used by the wrapper when requesting manual
+ intervention such as when the linux-tools- is not installed.
+
+ The first of these would be added to the appropriate meta package, the
+ second would come out of the flavour specific packages in the main kernel
+ source package.
+
+ Further we would then be able to name the actual binary packages as produced
by the
+ various source packages to be source package specific. Thus we would have
packages as
+ below:
+
+ linux-tools- -- coming out of the master branch
+ linux-grouper-tools- -- coming out of the grouper branch
+
+ These would be hidden from the user via the previously listed meta packages
+ and would not be direct installation candidates.
+
+ There is also an additional linux-tools-common package which represents
+ the manual pages and the wrappers. These would be only generated and
+ installed from the master branch and all of the other flavours would
+ (at least initially) share this package.
+
+ The actual binaries will be moved over to names similar to below:
+
+ /usr/lib/-tools-/
+
+ with symlinks in as below for each flavour pointing to the above:
+
+ /usr/lib/linux-tools/--

[Bug 1131919] Re: Changing gtk-key-theme-name to Emacs has no effect

2013-07-29 Thread Alex Dicks
The bug was fixed upstream, and the packages in saucy will include this
fix. Until I upgrade, it bothers me sufficiently that I've backported
that patch to the version in raring, and I'll provide a version of GTK+3
with that patch in ppa:ajdicks/gtk-key-theme
, which I'll hope
to keep up to date until saucy is out of it's infancy.

SlavikZ, could you please post a link to the archive containing your
e-mail to the distrolist?

As well, if
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173723/comments/28
is already been e-mailed out, it is not in the format requested of you
from kernel.org developers and the Ubuntu community noted in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1173723/comments/27
. This would be limiting your chances of a kernel maintainer addressing
your e-mail, as the information a maintainer would want to see is not
provided.

Doug Schaapveld, as per
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/default.page? an update is
available for your BIOS (1.43). If you update to this, does it change

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1197616] Re: Bluetooth sometimes does not work after resuming from suspend

2013-07-29 Thread Gavin Guo
I've installed the kernel mentioned before. It's weird that the
bluetooth device is disappear in lsusb. Even when I reboot, then enter
the old kernel 3.5.0-22, the problem still existed. I'll try to shutdown
and calm down the machine then try it again. Because the battery is hard
to remove.
