Re: [Bug 1168250] Re: [Nexus7] guvcview crashed when changing resolution
Hi Bryce, I'll try to reproduce that event with today's daily build of Lubuntu i386 desktop. I didn't keep the picture, it was the default jpeg picture from the webcam with my ugly face ;-) I think the bug is still there, that the jpeg picture is not read by the default picture viewer of Lubuntu, gpicview. But Xorg will not crash every time I try this procedure (and I don't know what makes it crash). [Bug 1160042] Re: Scroll speed too fast with Microsoft mice
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Ever since I use my "Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000", I get the problem, that scrolling is extremely fast after restarting the computer after using Windows. The issue seems to be well documented, as several other users have come across this problem [1]. The common workaround seems to be un- and replugging the mouse's usb adaptor [2]. I can confirm this workaround works. Another solution is offered by Paul Richards with his resetmsmice script [3][4]. These utilities do work, and it is less difficult to run a single sudo command than to go duck diving underneath my desk each time I start ubuntu. According to this [5] thread, he has also submitted a kernel patch, but it does not seem to have made it through to me, as the problem perseveres even with ubuntu 12.10. Is there any possibilities of adding these kernel fixes to the kernel used by ubuntu? I have never comiled a kernel myself, but I would gladly assist testing anything. [Bug 1134492] Re: xserver-xorg-lts-quantal breaks Kubuntu
Instead of patching apt, wouldn't it be easier to ship a script like do- release-upgrade (eg. do-lts-upgrade --component=xorg --component=linux --target=quantal) which does all the necessary magic? It could even do something like 1. trigger package downloads only 2. force-remove the old packages 3. install the new packages That would circumvent any solver and possible brakages due to that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1134492 Title: xserver-xorg-lts-quantal breaks Kubuntu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1134492/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1025555] Re: Ubuntu i386 images are not compatible with recent (UEFI) computers
I also don't understand the reluctance to release 32 efi compatible media. The 64 bit media are well tested, support traditional bios hardware, efi only and efi legacy. Why would this be different for 32 bit. Leaving it with the (often non-expert) users to install it themselves with several hooks and pitfalls seems a bit weak to me from the side of ubuntu. I am a semi-experienced Linux user, but I am reluctant to do this myself. As Dmitrijs sas "The bug here is against ubuntu-cdimage project that we don't generate any 32-bit uefi capable installation media. But i'd like to see a significant market share of 32bit-only-UEFI machines before we do introduce such an image." What do you see as a significant markershare. There is a clear problem, a clear demand from several users, a fair number of hardware affected ... I'd say that sounds significant enough. If it helps to launch a ticket to ubuntu-cdimage then we can of course do so. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/102 Title: Ubuntu i386 images are not compatible with recent (UEFI) computers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/102/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

PS . btw. ubuntu runs perfectly fine (though a bit slow) through the emulator under windows 8 on my ACER W510. So I think there is no problem with Ubuntu itself and these machines. [Bug 1170236] [NEW] [PATCH] make FSLint launcher (fslint.desktop) easier to find and add Name or Comment lines to translation template (fslint.pot)
Public bug reported: 1. FSLint name is hard to understand for most non-US people (my friend is English teacher but she doesn't know meaning of word Lint). Attached patch makes launcher name easier to find for most people, especially in modern desktop environments, like GNOME Shell or Unity, where most users search software by keywords. It's very important to have Clean and Janitor keywords in Name or Comment fields. 2. Also it would be nice if you add an ability to see translated FSLint launcher in all operating systems - it's very easy, just rename fslint.desktop to fslint.desktop.in , change lines "Name=" to "_Name=" , "Comment=" to "_Comment=" and add fslint.desktop.in file into po/POTFILES.in (and use modern automake+autoconf instead of custom makefile) - see for example Alacarte software which is also written in python: https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/data/alacarte.desktop.in.in https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/po https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/Makefile.am https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/ Line "X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=fslint" adds an ability to have translated Name and Comment fields in Ubuntu Linux distribution. [Bug 1170257] [NEW] Compiz crashes on CCSM edit
Public bug reported: This is fairly typical of instability problems I've been having for a while, but I tried to isolate an example which I could document well. To create the crash I simply selected 'Place Windows' which was previously unselected within CCSM. Immediately, Compiz crashes and all window decorations and interactions are lost. I attach the output from the compiz --replace process (which I had running on TTY1 with STDOUT and STDERR directed to the same file). There had been previous crashes, so I relaunched compiz with the additional logging redirects to create this file, like... compiz --replace > /tmp/compiz.out 2>&1 On restarting Compiz it seems stable and functional again, but selecting and deselecting plugins creates another crash. From experience with this build, removing compiz config entirely and starting again returns stability, so there may be a particular selected plugin which is creating this issue, but I haven't isolated which. [Bug 1168250] Re: [Nexus7] Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in __memcpy_ssse3_rep (from sna_video_overlay_set_port_attribute(): guvcview crashed when changing resolution of a picture
Th guvcview is still making bad jpeg files and good png files from the webcam. I tried a lot, but could not reproduce the crash in Xorg. I tried in the same computer both in a Lubuntu session and a Nexus 7 session running live from a USB drive (like I did when the crash occurred). I'll attach two image files (one jpeg and one png), and a text file showing that I cannot run apport-collect 1168250, I think because of a bug in apport-collect. The text file shows the dialogue trying to install apport-collect (including update & upgrade). [Bug 1167301] Re: Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) resolution whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) and the external monitor 1920x1080 (16:9)
Adding one more comment: I notice that the importance if the original report was been changed from "High" to "Wishlist" after triage. Just to reiterate, the ability to mirror the display across two monitors using a resolution equal to that of the lower resolution of the two monitors was a feature available (until very recently) in Ubuntu 12.10. So the report isn't asking for a new feature, but rather is asking for a previous feature to be restored. And indeed, since a 1024x768 resolution doesn't display properly for me on either of my monitors, a mirrored display set up is not workable for me without this feature. So at least in my case, that previously available feature (ability to mirror display across two monitors using a resolution equal to that of the lower resolution of the two monitors) was not only greatly appreciated, but was heavily relied upon. So please consider this bug to be of "High" importance.
