Re: [Bug 1168250] Re: [Nexus7] guvcview crashed when changing resolution

2013-04-18 Thread sudodus
Hi Bryce,

I'll try to reproduce that event with today's daily build of Lubuntu
i386 desktop.

I didn't keep the picture, it was the default jpeg picture from the
webcam with my ugly face ;-)

I think the bug is still there, that the jpeg picture is not read by the
default picture viewer of Lubuntu, gpicview. But Xorg will not crash
every time I try this procedure (and I don't know what makes it crash).

Best regards
Nio

[Bug 1169044] Re: can't install/upgrade postfix non interactively through apt

2013-04-18 Thread Andrew Jones
I tested this again on a clone of one of our other machines which hadn't
had it's packaged upgraded.

I ran sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get upgrade.

The following packages were going to be upgraded:
  accountsservice apache2-utils apt apt-transport-https apt-utils bash
bind9-host cloud-init curl dmsetup
  dnsutils gir1.2-gudev-1.0 grub-legacy-ec2 icedtea-6-jre-cacao
icedtea-6-jre-jamvm iptables
  language-selector-common libaccountsservice0 libapt-inst1.4 libapt-pkg4.12
libbind9-80 libcurl3
  libcurl3-gnutls libcurl4-openssl-dev libdbus-glib-1-2 libdevmapper1.02.1
libdns81 libdrm-intel1
  libdrm-nouveau1a libdrm-radeon1 libdrm2 libgnutls-dev libgnutls-openssl27
libgnutls26 libgnutlsxx27
  libgudev-1.0-0 libisc83 libisccc80 libisccfg82 liblwres80 libmysqlclient-dev
libmysqlclient18 libnspr4
  libnss3 libnss3-1d libpciaccess0 libssl-dev libssl-doc libssl1.0.0 libudev0
libvirt-dev libvirt0 libxml2
  linux-libc-dev openjdk-6-jre-headless openjdk-6-jre-lib openssl
percona-server-client-5.5
  percona-server-common-5.5 percona-server-server-5.5 percona-xtrabackup perl
perl-base perl-modules
  postfix rsyslog sudo udev

I was presented with a changelog in less, and the upgrades proceeded
when i'd closed that.

Other packages upgraded without incident, but when postfix was being
upgraded I was presented with a pink screen titled 'Postfix
Configuration', even though postfix has already been configured. The
options included 'No configuration', 'Internet site', 'Internet with
smarthost', 'Satellite system' and 'Local only'. As before, the upgrade
would not proceed without user input.

Your HDMI device usually show up as "HDMI / Displayport 3", right? If
so, for speaker-test you should specify

[Bug 1170223] [NEW] backport quantal ec2-api-tools to precise

2013-04-18 Thread Paul Morahan
Public bug reported:

12.04 uses ec2-api-tools 1.5.0.0
12.10 uses ec2-api-tools 1.6.1.1

AWS is deprecating the SOAP API, which is the only one that 1.5.0.0
supports (newer version not in backports either). 1.6.1.1 supports the
use of the AWS Access/Secret keys, which is their way forward. Precise

to suit.

[Bug 1073433] Re: Ext4 corruption associated with shutdown of Ubuntu 12.10

2013-04-18 Thread Alexander
Morning, 'halt'... and "/ is busy" again.
VERBOSE=yes
in /etc/default/rcS didn't help either.
Just a few messages are added:

 * Will now unmount temporary filesystems
tmpfs has been unmounted

 * Will now deactivate swap
swapoff on /dev/sdb1

 * Mounting root filesystem read-only...
umount: /run/lock: not mounted
umount: /run/shm: not mounted
mount: / is busy

I don't know how to debug it even more.
Any ideas?

P.S.: with 3.8 kernel from PPA Xorg doesn't start (lack of KMS or
something). So currently I can't fully test it with a new kernel.

When the SNA is enabled and the notebook is ejected from the docking
station, the screen becomes garbled on the internal screen (please see
attachment for a screenshot). When I switch to old UXA using the
following xorg.conf:

$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Section "Device"
  Identifier "Card0"
  Driver "intel"
  Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

the laptop detachment works flawlessly and the screen is not garbled.

[Bug 1160042] Re: Scroll speed too fast with Microsoft mice

2013-04-18 Thread Niklas Fischer
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Ever since I use my "Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000", I get
the problem, that scrolling is extremely fast after restarting the
computer after using Windows. The issue seems to be well documented, as
several other users have come across this problem [1]. The common
workaround seems to be un- and replugging the mouse's usb adaptor [2]. I
can confirm this workaround works. Another solution is offered by Paul
Richards with his resetmsmice script [3][4]. These utilities do work,
and it is less difficult to run a single sudo command than to go duck
diving underneath my desk each time I start ubuntu. According to this
[5] thread, he has also submitted a kernel patch, but it does not seem
to have made it through to me, as the problem perseveres even with
ubuntu 12.10. Is there any possibilities of adding these kernel fixes to
the kernel used by ubuntu? I have never comiled a kernel myself, but I
  would gladly assist testing anything.

[Bug 1134492] Re: xserver-xorg-lts-quantal breaks Kubuntu

2013-04-18 Thread Malte S. Stretz
Instead of patching apt, wouldn't it be easier to ship a script like do-
release-upgrade (eg. do-lts-upgrade --component=xorg --component=linux
--target=quantal) which does all the necessary magic? It could even do
something like

1. trigger package downloads only
2. force-remove the old packages
3. install the new packages

That would circumvent any solver and possible brakages due to that.

[Bug 1025555] Re: Ubuntu i386 images are not compatible with recent (UEFI) computers

2013-04-18 Thread FredL
I also don't understand the reluctance to release 32 efi compatible
media. The 64 bit media are well tested, support traditional bios
hardware, efi only and efi legacy. Why would this be different for 32
bit. Leaving it with the (often non-expert) users to install it
themselves with several hooks and pitfalls seems a bit weak to me from
the side of ubuntu. I am a semi-experienced Linux user, but I am
reluctant to do this myself.

As Dmitrijs sas "The bug here is against ubuntu-cdimage project that we
don't generate any 32-bit uefi capable installation media. But i'd like
to see a significant market share of 32bit-only-UEFI machines before we
do introduce such an image."

What do you see as a significant markershare. There is a clear problem,
a clear demand from several users, a fair number of hardware affected
... I'd say that sounds significant enough.

If it helps to launch a ticket to ubuntu-cdimage then we can of course
do so.

PS . btw. ubuntu runs perfectly fine (though a bit slow) through the
emulator under windows 8 on my ACER W510. So I think there is no problem
with Ubuntu itself and these machines. It's indeed only the installation
support which is not up to par.

[Bug 1170235] [NEW] Tajik Language Support

Currently we keep working on Tajik (tgk/tg) translations for Ubuntu and
have good statistics for translated files. To test our recent
translations and improve any found errors we have downloaded Ubuntu

listed for the Installation process. Could you please, create an Ubuntu

[Bug 1169836] Re: [Asus U50F, Intel IbexPeak HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound hdmi output

2013-04-18 Thread Sasza Kijek
It does show up as "HDMI / Displayport 3" when on 3.8.0-17 kernel and
the speaker-test works then even without specifing the exact device. I
did the speaker-test on the 3.8.0-18 with your exact specs and it gave
out this error:

speaker-test 1.0.25

Playback device is hdmi:0,2
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels
WAV file(s)
Playback open error: -19,No such device

I tried with changing hdmi:0,2 with different numbers than 2 but then it
is just 'invalid argument'

although through 'aplay -L' I get:

[Bug 1170236] [NEW] [PATCH] make FSLint launcher (fslint.desktop) easier to find and add Name or Comment lines to translation template (fslint.pot)

2013-04-18 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Public bug reported:

1. FSLint name is hard to understand for most non-US people (my friend is
English teacher but she doesn't know meaning of word Lint).
Attached patch makes launcher name easier to find for most people, especially
in modern desktop environments, like GNOME Shell or Unity, where most users
search software by keywords.
It's very important to have Clean and Janitor keywords in Name or Comment
fields.

2. Also it would be nice if you add an ability to see translated FSLint
launcher in all operating systems - it's very easy, just rename fslint.desktop
to fslint.desktop.in , change lines "Name=" to "_Name=" , "Comment=" to
"_Comment=" and add fslint.desktop.in file into po/POTFILES.in (and use modern
automake+autoconf instead of custom makefile) - see for example Alacarte
software which is also written in python:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/data/alacarte.desktop.in.in
https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/po
https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/Makefile.am
https://git.gnome.org/browse/alacarte/tree/

Line "X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=fslint" adds an ability to have translated Name
and Comment fields in Ubuntu Linux distribution.
See for example similar LP bug #980537 for more info:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/gpoweroff/+bug/980537

Thanks for writing nice free tool :)

[Bug 1068994] Re: button1 gets stuck after a while

2013-04-18 Thread Till Kamppeter
Yes, I can reproduce this, using the right-click emulator of onboard
makes the touch clicking fail. Probably I did not see this earlier as I
rarely use the right click. Seems that my suggested patch is only a
partial fix.

Perhaps we have to wait for 1.14 with touch screen support, or for the
retirement of X for the desktop in favor of Wayland or MIR.

[Bug 1147639] Re: Cannot add IRC account details

2013-04-18 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Here is the patch for the Empathy crash:
https://git.gnome.org/browse/empathy/commit/?id=3af2b86ec550ae1f37f25504afb95c590e7dd085

Still, the reason for the delay in creating the UI is unclear. I never managed
to reproduce it myself.
Could someone affected by this bug please run

  dbus-monitor > dbus.log

while reproducing the problem, and attach it to this bug report?

Thunderbirds IMAP / IMAP IDLE implementation once then number of emails
gets big.

We should find out if it happens with TB on Windows / Mac as well.

[Bug 1049466] Re: Need support of Ralink RT3290 wifi support

2013-04-18 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Ubuntu developers, please include rt3290.bin from
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git into "linux-firmware" package for Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring",
it's already included in official linux firmware repository, see
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-
firmware.git/tree/

It's very important for new users to have working Wireless network
device "out of box".

[Bug 1169984] [PATCH] UBUNTU: SAUCE: Fix oops in patch_hdmi due to missing hda_gen_spec struct

2013-04-18 Thread David Henningsson
A recent commit added calls to the snd_hda_*_fixup functions. Under
kernel 3.8 and earlier these functions require a hda_gen_spec struct
to be first in the spec struct, or memory corruption might occur.

Could you try the kernel I built

The kernel works well for me, and if this kernel also works for you,
then we can add just one more code to the ubuntu kernel to fix this issue.

[Bug 1121874] Re: MySQL launch fails silently if < 4MB of disk space is available

2013-04-18 Thread Kurt Huwig
I cannot see a difference with

ii mysql-server-5.5 5.5.29-0ubuntu0.12.04.2 MySQL database server
binaries and system database setup

As I have too much disk space on my test machine, I've changed the code
to check for much more space but left the rest untouched:

LC_ALL=C BLOCKSIZE= df --portability /var/lib/mysql/. | tail -n 1 |
awk '{ exit ($4<40960) }'

The result is that the start of mysql fails, but there are no new
logentries (I truncated all files before starting mysql):

root@mysql:~# service mysql start
start: Job failed to start
root@mysql:~# ls -l /var/log/mysql/error.log /var/log/mysql* /var/log/syslog

[Bug 1170257] [NEW] Compiz crashes on CCSM edit

2013-04-18 Thread Cefn
Public bug reported:

This is fairly typical of instability problems I've been having for a
while, but I tried to isolate an example which I could document well.

To create the crash I simply selected 'Place Windows' which was
previously unselected within CCSM. Immediately, Compiz crashes and all
window decorations and interactions are lost.

I attach the output from the compiz --replace process (which I had
running on TTY1 with STDOUT and STDERR directed to the same file). There
had been previous crashes, so I relaunched compiz with the additional
logging redirects to create this file, like...

compiz --replace > /tmp/compiz.out 2>&1

On restarting Compiz it seems stable and functional again, but selecting
and deselecting plugins creates another crash. From experience with this
build, removing compiz config entirely and starting again returns
stability, so there may be a particular selected plugin which is
creating this issue, but I haven't isolated which.

[Bug 1168250] Re: [Nexus7] Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in __memcpy_ssse3_rep (from sna_video_overlay_set_port_attribute(): guvcview crashed when changing resolution of a picture

2013-04-18 Thread sudodus
Th guvcview is still making bad jpeg files and good png files from the
webcam. I tried a lot, but could not reproduce the crash in Xorg. I
tried in the same computer both in a Lubuntu session and a Nexus 7
session running live from a USB drive (like I did when the crash
occurred).

I'll attach two image files (one jpeg and one png), and a text file
showing that I cannot run apport-collect 1168250, I think because of a
bug in apport-collect. The text file shows the dialogue trying to
install apport-collect (including update & upgrade).

I hope it helps

Yeah... I was also able to replicate it, whenever I use the right-mouse
from onboard the mouse click gets lost. But since you fixed the left-click
bug, why are you so pessimistic about this other bug? Wouldn't the same
modifications be doable with this one?

[Bug 1167301] Re: Mirroring display works only with 1024x768 (4:3) resolution whereas my laptop has 1366x768 (16:9) and the external monitor 1920x1080 (16:9)

2013-04-18 Thread Gizmo Chicken
Adding one more comment:

I notice that the importance if the original report was been changed
from "High" to "Wishlist" after triage.

Just to reiterate, the ability to mirror the display across two monitors
using a resolution equal to that of the lower resolution of the two
monitors was a feature available (until very recently) in Ubuntu 12.10.
So the report isn't asking for a new feature, but rather is asking for a
previous feature to be restored. And indeed, since a 1024x768
resolution doesn't display properly for me on either of my monitors, a
mirrored display set up is not workable for me without this feature. So
at least in my case, that previously available feature (ability to
mirror display across two monitors using a resolution equal to that of
the lower resolution of the two monitors) was not only greatly
appreciated, but was heavily relied upon. So please consider this bug
to be of "High" importance. Thanks!

[Bug 1159549] Re: Problema com Nvidia

2013-04-18 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.
