[Bug 1136110] Re: USB Audio Codec choppy playback
>Tim Richardson In my case I have tested the AMD64 builds only. On the v3.8.x branch this bug has appeared since v3.8.0-rc7, every AMD 64 kernel since that version is affected, including v3.8.4 . ** Description changed: 1) The release of Ubuntu using Ubuntu 12.10 AMD64. Ubuntu 13.04 AMD64, daily build as new as 20130314. 2) The version of the package used linux-image-3.5.0-26-generic linux-image-3.5.7-03050706-generic_3.5.7-03050706.201302221435_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5.7.6-quantal/ linux-image-3.7.7-030707-generic_3.7.7-030707.201302111436_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.7.7-raring/ linux-image-3.8.0-030800rc7-generic_3.8.0-030800rc7.201302081635_amd64.deb http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.8-rc7-raring/ This bug had been confirmed appearing after the following kernel upgrade step: v3.5.0-25 > v3.5.0-26 ~ v3.5.0-27 v3.5.7.5 > v3.5.7.6 ~ v3.5.7.8 v3.7.6 > v3.7.7 ~ v3.7.10 v3.8.0-rc6 > v3.8.0-rc7 ~ v3.8.4 The v3.9 branch has been affected since its very first release. v3.9-rc1, v3.9-rc2, v3.9-rc3 v3.9-rc4 are all affected. 3) What you expected to happen When using a USB DAC to play audio, the audio should be played normally without any interruption. 4) What happened instead This bug seems to affect only a certain kind of hardware, which is called "Asynchronous USB Digital Audio Codec (DAC)". It's said that such a DAC hosts the clock itself (USB Device Host). An ordinary DAC, so called "Synchronous USB DAC", uses the clock hosted by the mother board, which is not affected by this bug. When this bug affects an asynchronous USB DAC, the audio played by the DAC is constantly interrupted. The playback itself does not stop, but the output becomes discontinous, filling with constant crackling noises, destroying everything the DAC plays. Using CLI command grep device.buffering to get the buffer from the devices, those affected kernels are reporting back a different number to the unaffected devices. The choppy noise is very similar to the situation when buffer size is not correctly set. I have tested four USB DACs, two Asynchronous and two Synchronous. Only the Asynchronous ones are affected by this bug. Affected Devices: Arce MDAC5 Arce MDAC mini Ayre Acoustics QB-9 + Dragonfly USB DAC Musical Fidelity v2 DAC USB Audio Streaming Controller on affected devices: Texas Instrument TAS1020 http://www.ti.com/product/tas1020 Audio DAC on affected devices: Texas Instruments PCM1742 http://www.ti.com/product/pcm1742 This bug had been confirmed appearing after the following kernel upgrade step: 3.5.0-25 > 3.5.0-26 3.5.7.5 > 3.5.7.6 (and all 3.5.7.x above) 3.7.6 > 3.7.7 (and all 3.7.x above) 3.8.0-rc6 > 3.8.0-rc7 (and all 3.8.x above) I used Kdiff to find the similar patches, and find the following patches suspicous: USB: XHCI: fix memory leak of URB-private data (appeared in 3.5.7.6/3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) USB: EHCI: fix for leaking isochronous data (appeared in 3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) usb: Prevent dead ports when xhci is not enabled (appeared in 3.5.7.6/3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) usb: Using correct way to clear usb3.0 device's remote wakeup feature (appeared in 3.5.7.6/3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) USB: EHCI: remove ASS/PSS polling timeout (appeared in 3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) USB: EHCI: unlink one async QH at a time (appeared in 3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) USB: EHCI: fix timer bug affecting port resume (appeared in 3.5.7.6/3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) USB: EHCI: fix bug in scheduling periodic split transfers (appeared in 3.5.7.6/3.7.7/3.8.0-rc7) Hope someone can look into this bug soon! --- ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu10 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: tysontan 2117 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC1: tysontan 2117 F pulseaudio /dev/snd/pcmC1D0p: tysontan 2117 F...m pulseaudio CRDA: Error: command ['iw', 'reg', 'get'] failed with exit code 1: nl80211 not found. [Bug 1161757] [NEW] Network Manager indicator does not always load wireless networks or VPN options
Public bug reported: When I first login my wireless will connect just fine, but clicking on the wireless indicator will not list any wireless networks, nor the usual VPN options. As I use openvpn this is a problem. A simple network- manager restart always fixes the problem. This issue occurs 1 in 3 logins and is not restricted to this laptop or release - I had exactly the same experience on my previous Toshiba laptop, and on other laptops which I have given to other staff, from clean installs. [Bug 1161771] [NEW] Corrupt filenames in Ubuntu 12.04.2 Server amd64
Public bug reported: ISO file "ubuntu-12.04.2-server-amd64.iso" contains some files (about 19) with corrupt filename and extension (or only extension). Mainly they are in this path "/pool/main/l/linux-lts-quantal" but probably I saw one in other place. For example, a few of corrupted files: 1) fs-core-modules-3.5.0-23-generic-di_3.5.0-23.35~precise1_amd6.ude (there should be "4" in the end of filename) 2) multipath-modules-3.5.0-23-generic-di_3.5.0-23.35~precise1_am.ude (there should be "d64" in the end of filename) 3) floppy-modules-3.5.0-23-generic-di_3.5.0-23.35~precise1_amd64.ude (there wrong only extension) So, extension should be "udeb" instead of "ude" and filename should end with "precise1_amd64" and not with something else. I discovered this problem today when was trying to install Ubuntu Server from USB stick (prepared with Universal USB Installer). Installer hangs with the error "Failed to copy file from CD-ROM". I downloaded "ubuntu-12.04.2-server-amd64.iso" from ubuntu.com. And my MD5 is "af5f788aee1b32c4b2634734309cc9e9" and SHA-1 is "983cfa31d1a376e0c6d2e431af7e0e5757f8d28a". It is a nice feature if you often restart this service often on a file-server but far from everyone need to use warmstart and even less need to restart this service at all. If someone want this feature they can add it to the their configuration. Do not force it on everyone where it is not needed and also dispalys errors. A better option is to just remove the -w in OPTIONS alltogether. No need to make global changes for everyone in corner cases. Please, note it in the NEWS and readme and upstream can fix this warmstart display issue when they want to. -- Johan -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/835833 Title: spurious syslog error message because of use of -w on boot [rpcbind.xdr / portmap.xdr : errno 2 (no such file)] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rpcbind/+bug/835833/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1161689] [NEW] Movie player controls don't show up in fullscreen when using a trackpad
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using a HP Proobook 4530S, the trackpad works fine - except when I open a video in the movie player and make it fullscreen, moving the mouse with the trackpad does not make either the cursor or the controls appear. [Bug 1161371] Re: X server sometimes fails to start on MacBook Air 5, 2: no screens found
The problem is that Xorg hasn't registered the igfx as the boot-vga device and so is looking for a primary display and fails (it loads the -intel as a secondary GPU only screen). What is the value in '/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/boot_vga' ? You can manually specify: Section "Device" Identifier "Device0" Driver "intel" EndSection in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/intel.conf to workaround the issue. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1161371 Title: X server sometimes fails to start on MacBook Air 5,2: no screens found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1161371/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1075901] Re: Incorrect ownership or permissions for spool/work directory
Given that this bug has already been marked in progress, this may not be helpful, but I think this bug is more serious than suggested and should be made a priority to fix for precise. I've run into situations where rsyslog will run at 100% CPU with no useful output or logging to indicate why. Attaching strace to the process revealed the application was spinning with the following: futex(0x151f8e0, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 0 open("/var/spool/rsyslog/relp_queue_hostname.0001", O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_NOCTTY|O_CLOEXEC, 0600) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied) In this particular case the problem arose because the remote relp server was down long enough to fill the local rsyslog in-memory queue and force rsyslog to spool to disk for relp. However, I have also run into situations where rsyslog will try to open a spool for the local logging queue and also run into permissions issues. In either case, if one of the queues turns to spooling, the write rate of the other queue is drastically affected, which is possibly why I wasn't getting any useful logging information from rsyslog once the spinning started. Up until yesterday I took the approach of restarting the rsyslog process to remedy the issue which I now understand worked because it cleared the in-memory queue and thereby postponed further throttling. This morning I forced the issue by using logger to flood rsyslog (`for i in $(seq 1 5000); do logger "Testing $i"; done`). Within a few thousand messages the in-memory queue must have reached its limit, as rsyslog began to consume 100% cpu and messages only showed up in syslog at a rate of 5-10 every minute. strace again verified rsyslog was spinning on the permissions error above. With rsyslog in this state I issued a `sudo chown syslog:adm /var/spool/rsyslog` command and immediately cpu usage dropped to expected levels and the remaining log messages rapidly appeared in syslog (thousands per minute). With permissions correct I tried flooding rsyslog again and this time messages went directly to syslog with no adverse impact on cpu usage. I am using precise with rsyslog 5.8.6-1ubuntu8.1. Let me know if there's any other info I can provide or anything else I can do to help. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1075901 Title: Incorrect ownership or permissions for spool/work directory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/rsyslog/+bug/1075901/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1016671] Re: xfce4-appfinder crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast()
The fixed package should be pushed into Quantal as well. (I uploaded the patched version into my personal PPA as soon as Nick replied and didn't have a crash ever since.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1016671 Title: xfce4-appfinder crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xfce4-appfinder/+bug/1016671/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1161811] Re: While upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04, an Error message occurred with unreadable font
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise running-unity ** Description changed: During upgrade from Ubuntu 10.04 to 12.04, an unreadable Error message occurred. However it was possible to copy the unreadable text and paste it into a shell. The text was: "An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for evolution-alarm-notify. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." Thus the text seems to be ok, but the font used to display the text seems to be unreadable.
