Verified in precise and quantal that the python scripting option is back again.
It would be good to have someone that uses it test it too please.

This problem still occurs occasionally with the raring kernel
(3.8.0-13). I didn't see this problem with the mainline kernel 3.7.

Not sure why, but Samba doesn't seem to recognize a lot of the

[Bug 1100622] Re: package kdelibs5-plugins (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/ktelnetservice', which is also in package kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.10.dfsg.1-3ubuntu2.10.04

2013-03-17 Thread Knut Hildebrandt
Hi robegue,

1. you are right, my fault.

Didn't copy your command into the terminal but simply chaged the last
one and thus was invoking:

dpkg-deb -i ../newpackage.deb

The package I install with GDebi.

2. My idea was getting all the old stuff out of the way just in case
later changes in newer packages would lead to more conflicts like this
one. Moving the old libs and applications into another directory at
least would prevent them from being overridden, I thought. In your post
#14 you were mentioning that this fix isn't a long term solution. Hoped
my idea could be one. But maybe I think the wrong way. Don't know
nothing about packaging and even prefer tools like moun or synaptic to
the command line.

[Bug 1156330] Re: On Screen Keyboard - Caribou fails to start

2013-03-17 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1156330/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1156390] [NEW] upgrade to quantal results in some excessively large menu icons

2013-03-17 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Public bug reported:

ThinkPad R60 running 12.04. Upgraded via do-release upgrade -d to 12.10.
Upon the upgrade, several non-natively Lubuntu programs had excessively
large icons. A perfect example is amsynth, which is not only a great
synthesizer, but its icon is unquestionably great in size. Isn't there a
maximum icon size in Lubuntu? If not, should add to the wishlist.
However, I'm thinking it already does, or did. Why did it not have this
problem with 12.04 but now does with 12.10?

[Bug 782005] Re: Cannot click Apply on "Existing Settings" screen of "Change Driver" wizard in printer properties

2013-03-17 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
This happened again, but on a different computer running Ubuntu 12.04. I
was having printer trouble and I noticed that the make and model showed
up as simply "Local Raw Printer". I attempted to change it to the
MFC-7220 but I was unable to click apply on the "Existing Settings"
page. I tried the flow a second time and the same thing happened. Then I
tried it from "system-config-printer --debug" to get the information you
wanted, but that time the Apply button _was_ enabled. I then cancelled
and went back to do it normally (i.e., not running it from the terminal
with --debug) and Apply was still enabled. So somehow the --debug run
magically fixed things without actually "applying" any change. :/

I've attached the --debug output from the run that magically fixed
things. The "No installable options" line is the last one that appeared
before cancelling.

Attempting to do 'sudo apt-get install kig/precise-proposed' results in
error message:

E: Release 'precise-proposed' for package 'kig' was not found.

I checked the proposed box in Update Manager, so that is in place and so is the
/etc/apt/preferences file.
Looks like I am somohow not hitting the proposed repository. What am I missing?

Thanks

[Bug 1068640] Re: lxpanel does not start on boot

2013-03-17 Thread Walter Lapchynski
see the comments below and you can tell this has nothing to do with
lxpanel. the problem lies in the autostart file, which, as an XDG spec,
is part of openbox, although the real culprit may lies in lubuntu's
specific autostart, which is in lubuntu-default-settings.

** Package changed: lxpanel (Ubuntu) => lubuntu-default-settings
(Ubuntu)

** Summary changed:

- lxpanel does not start on boot
+ user-configured autostart in home conflicts with systemwide file

[Bug 991493] Re: Missing llvm-config alternatives.

2013-03-17 Thread Mike Mestnik
If you don't understand why, then there is no point in you not providing
an alternatives in the package(s). The only reason for not using
alternatives would be to force your viewpoints onto your users, which
you should be doing even in cases were you are absolutely positive doing
this would break things. Sine any tarball downloaded could potentially
need(even if the need is broken or incorrect) the old LLVM even if the
new LLVM is installed or Vice Vese, then this become an essential
feature.

Since all you say is that thee is no reason for an alternatives and no
reason not to implement alternatives, I don't understand any hesitation.

[Bug 1156398] [NEW] "scp-debus-service" creates 100s of thousands symlinks to the ppd-file in "/tmp" untill the root filesystem runs out of inodes everytime I print something

2013-03-17 Thread nomike
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

When I print e.g. a webpage in Firefox, shortly after the printing finished,
the root filesystem is running out of available inodes.
"/tmp/" is populated with hundreds of thousands of symlinks to
"/etc/cups/ppd/Hewlett-Packard-hp-LaserJet-4350.ppd" which are all named like
"51465" (where x is a hexadecimal digit) and are created at a rate of
aprox. 1500 new symlinks per second. The filenames are not counted up but seem
to appear in random order.

During this time the process "/usr/bin/python /usr/share/system-config-
printer/scp-dbus-service.py" is using ~130% CPU.

As soon as I kill this process, no more symlinks are created.
When I wait for the inodes to run out, this process's CPU usage drops to ~7%
for a few seconds before the process suddenly disapears from the process list.
This indicates that all the symlinks are created by this one process.

If I delete the symlinks now and print another document, things start
over again.

---+ Furher notes
This does not happen when printing with
lpr
gv

It does happen when printing with
Firefox
Chromium
LibreOffice

An unpriviledged user could break down the system by filling up all free
inodes on the root fs, so this might be security relevant.

[Bug 932834] Re: Enable equalizer

2013-03-17 Thread jnewton
Equalizer creator here, doing my annual review of where this thing
managed to go... I'm pretty "impressed" ubuntu still hasn't enabled
this at-worst benign module... and it's such a hassle to replace
pulseaudio by building from source so it's ultimately a stupid decision,
really. Just build it and let users experiment, it's not like it loads
itself by default and breaks your system. OpenSUSE, my distro of
choice, has had it enabled since Feb 2012.

@Raymond: there's no limitation like that, its however many channels
you have and each one has it's own channel specific settings.

[Bug 1156428] [NEW] [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x78080003

2013-03-17 Thread Alexander Schlarb
Public bug reported:

Happend while switching windows. Probably a duplicate of bug #976489 but
I can't tell...

How to produce a similar result:
 * Buy a Dell Vostro 3700
 * Install Ubuntu on it (any recent version)
 * Install cairo-dock (havily uses 3D compositing)
 * Launch cairo-dock in OpenGL mode
 * Collect another bug report

[Bug 1131449] Re: [Lenovo k29]: ACPI AML intepreter has found some non-conforming AML code

2013-03-17 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
The fwts error is due to ACPI LED Method in this BIOS expects 1 argument
while the kernel driver thinkpad-acpi.c calls it with two arguments.

The possible effect could be that some LEDs are not lighten on/off
during the suspend. (This is hardware dependent. It is also possible the
LEDs on the machine are not controlled by this code snippet at all.
Please Cert. check the machine and update if this is a blocker).

This bug is handled in bug 1118657. More detail please check there.

[Bug 1156330] Re: On Screen Keyboard - Caribou fails to start

2013-03-17 Thread Logan Rosen
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in caribou.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1156437] [NEW] partman hangs with preseed

2013-03-17 Thread Phillip Susi
Public bug reported:

Following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InstallCDCustomization, I
completed a manual install ( in a VM ) and built a preseed file with
debconf-get-selections --installer > preseed && debconf-get-selections
>> preseed, so that I could repeat the install again for benchmarking
purposes. I used raring-server-amd64.iso for this. When trying to
install using the preseed, partman appears to hang, but seems to be
stuck in an infinite loop spewing output into /var/log/partman forever.

[Bug 1072726] Re: Security and DKIM signature verification failure issues

2013-03-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package dkimpy - 0.5.3-0ubuntu0.0.1

---
dkimpy (0.5.3-0ubuntu0.0.1) precise-proposed; urgency=medium

  * Urgency medium for multiple RC bug fixes
  * New upstream release (LP: #1072726):
  * Fix header unfolding and body hash calculation errors that cause
correct DKIM signatures to fail to verify in many cases
(Closes: #691663)
  * Add minimum key length requirement to prevent validation of signatures
generated with insecure keys (Closes: #691662)

dkimpy (0.5.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
- Change canonicalization defaults to work around issues with different
  verification implementations
- Fully fold DKIM-Signature on sign, and ignore FWS in b= value on verify
- Fix hashing problem while signing using sha1
  * Add alternate depends on python3-dnspython for python3-dkim since it will
enter the archive shortly
  * Install tests directory, including test data
  * Drop obsolete breaks on Lenny dkimproxy
  * Fix debian watch to work with package rename and Launchpad changes
  * Bump standards version to 3.9.3 without further change
