[Bug 1067994] [NEW] Long network names goes off the edge of the screen

2012-10-18 Thread Timothy Arceri
Public bug reported:

Problem:
Long network names goes off the edge of the screen

How to Reproduce:
1. Create or Rename a wired network to have an extra long name.
2. Remove lan cable.
3. Open the network manager applet
4. Plug in lan cable while applet is open.

You should now see that the name continues of the side of the screen.

What should happen:
The applet should be resized to fit the text.

Note:
The applet is resized if you close it and open it again. Just not if you have
it open when the network it connected.

Thanks for hinting at the probable source of the problem. I am new to
these things, but the /proc/interrupts lists IO-APIC-fasteoi. Perhaps
there may be some relation to some APIC issue?

[Bug 1039261] Re: Version Error loading touchpad kcm: Xinput extension is too old

2012-10-18 Thread Steve Riley
@Chris Samuel:

You're right. I released the APT hold I placed on xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics version 1.6.2 and allowed it to upgrade to 1.6.99 from Xorg-
Edgers. And, alas, the updated KCM still segfaults. It really would be
nice to get that commit incorporated...

More precisely, the script was using os.execv('celeryd',… , '-Q
celery, master',…) and the space before 'celery' got "escaped". I
suggested using the alternative syntax ("--queues=celery,master") to
avoid any problems.

[Bug 1067852] Re: libxml2-dev won't install, bad dependency

2012-10-18 Thread Aron Xu
In case if you meet such problem, it's better to run apt-get update
later and try again. It might be caused by the time frame between two
architectures' packages aren't being distributed at the same archive
sync, and the best solution is to wait for a while and try again.

[Bug 1067970] Re: ubuntu server ppc quantal server fails on linux-image-server

2012-10-18 Thread Colin Watson
Never mind, I tracked down the test case details. Your guess was right
and this is indeed a bug in the preseed file; the line "d-i base-
installer/kernel/override-image string linux-image-server" should be
dropped, as it's at best a no-op nowadays and breaks both non-x86
architectures and amd64 systems requiring secure boot. I've asked
Carlos on IRC to fix that.

In the meantime, closing this bug as it's not a bug in the installer.
If you're feeling particularly enthusiastic, perhaps you might take a
local copy of that preseed file without the offending line and try again
...

[Bug 1065163] Re: grub-pc fails to install at the end of installation from server iso

2012-10-18 Thread Mattias Wadenstein
We randomly stumbled onto this when seeing that se.archive was pointing
elsewhere. This particular package seems to have updated itself, but we
are still looking to see if we can figure out why sometimes rsync
forgets to update a small subset of packages for "a while" (many syncs).

I updated my Precise system from the standard repos a few minutes ago,
and the mplayer2 bug is still there.

I have not yet tested it in Quantal using your ppa.

By the way, will Quantal work with non-pae kernels? I have two computers
where mplayer2 does not work, one is an IBM Thinkpad without pae and one
Dell pentium 4 with pae.

Best regards
Nio

Yippee, it works, Julien!

Now I have downloaded the daily build Lubuntu Quantal (Oct 17), made a
persistent USB drive with Unetbootin and installed your version of
mplayer2 from launchpad/gilir. It works in my Dell Dimension 4600
(pentium 4 with pae), where mplayer2 has never worked for me in Precise.
I have not done any thorough testing yet, only tested with an mp4 file
transformed by ffmpeg from an MTS file from my video camera.

Best regards
Nio alias sudodus

This morning I checked and yes, Lubuntu Quantal needs pae, so it does
not work with any of the old IBM Thinkpads without pae.

Is there any chance that the update to mplayer2 package might work with
Precise? Now or in the future? After all, Precise has LTS (at least for
Ubuntu and Xubuntu).

Best regards
Nio

[Bug 1036752] Re: [quantal] [regression] Gnome Classic has no compiz plugins loaded

2012-10-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package compiz - 1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu3

---
compiz (1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu3) quantal-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/config, debian/compiz-gnome.migrations,
debian/00_remove_unityshell_in_gnome_session.py:
- add the default gnome_session profile to use gsettings as the migrated
user are on this profile (LP: #1036752). The existing migration scripts
  will upgrade the user config.
- For new users and users already on quantal before this fix, remove the
local config file created if you logged in the classic session hiding the
system one. Also, as the global default is including the unity* plugins,
remove them from the list of plugins the first time you log in.

  Record your encryption passphrase

To encrypt your home directory or "Private" folder, a strong passphrase has

If you click "Run this action now", enter your login password at the

[Bug 1067779] Re: missing pam_loginuid.so breaks getlogin()

2012-10-18 Thread lakostis
** Description changed:

getlogin() call in new glibc checks /proc/self/loginuid presence and
trust its value as most safe source (due it's audit-related nature). But
default /etc/pam.d/common-account doesn't contains entry to
pam_loginuid.so which modify /proc/self/loginuid properly. This breaks
getlogin() at many scenarios like this:

  (pam session without pam_loginuid)$ perl -e '$t=getlogin; print "$t\n";'
  root
  (pam session without pam_loginuid)$ id
  uid=1000(...

- lust because /proc/self/loginuid contains '0' value
+ just because /proc/self/loginuid contains '0' value

  If I add pam_loginuid.so to /etc/pam.d/common-account like
  http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/man8/pam_loginuid.8.html
  recommend, everything worked as expected:

  (pam session with pam_loginuid)$ perl -e '$t=getlogin; print "$t\n";'

[Bug 1068029] [NEW] memory leak in libgnutls28

2012-10-18 Thread Alexander Klauer
Public bug reported:

In lib/pkcs11.c:508, the variable "name" of type const char * is
assigned the return value of p11_kit_registered_module_to_name().
However, this function returns a pointer to a newly allocated string (a
duplicate of the module name). The pointer is subsequently lost (it is
passed to pkcs11_add_module() but ultimately, it is only passed to
logging functions).

[Bug 1067890] Re: Update Manager crashes on loading

2012-10-18 Thread sampo555
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You seem to have a broken source file in your APT
configuration. Please run following commands to fix this issue:

sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/stebbins-handbrake-releases-precise.list
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:stebbins/handbrake-releases
sudo apt-get update

The first command removes the invalid PPA, the second command adds the
PPA back and the third command updates the package cache.
