Same behavior in Xubuntu 12.04 x86, Abiword 2.9.2, no compiz installed. Normal 
typing brings the cpu load up to almost 100% and lags a bit, especially after 
ten or so pages.
Typing in LibreOffice, the virtual terminal or mousepad have no relevant cpu 
load and no lag.

Still seeing the symptoms from #28 for KeePass 2.18 and Ubuntu 12.04
(64-bit, fresh install on a new machine).  The Unity launcher is
basically of no use with KeePass2; you have to use the HUD to launch it.

"And what are you talking about 'a new user who has yet to learn to use
the terminal to remove the shopping lens'? There is a switch in Privacy
settings now."

The new privacy settings switch as currently implemented is a poor
workaround because it's all-or-nothing. It disables all Internet
searches across the entire Dash, whereas removing the shopping lens
package (currently) disables only the unwanted Internet search -- the
one that from the standpoint of privacy is more accurately characterized
as "the Amazon Home lens keylogger".

I'm sorry but how is this a duplicate of that bug? This is about
graphics memory. The other bug is about system memory. I am observing
the exact same issue and my system indeed has 128MB graphics RAM. As
soon as it gets past 115MB full, everything starts to lag. If I reduce
texture quality, turn on compression remove blurs and animations, the
system manages to stay slightly below this threshold and run fine.

In contrast in KDE - Kubuntu 12.10, my graphics RAM does not go past
80MB of usage and EVERYTHING runs smooth.

This that manifests itself on several systems with 128MB VRAM NVIDIA
cards.

At last I reproduced this bug. For me it looks like this: I'm trying to
wake up my notebook but screen never gets powered on, so I can't do
anything with computer, only press power button for 4 secs. I got this
bug previously on 12.04 too, but no appropriate reports where generated,
so I even didn't know who fails.

Thanks for the extra feedback.  I've communicated this bug to NVIDIA,
and they confirm it is due to a recent change in the driver, and I
expect we'll see a fix in an updated driver.

Doesn't seem an Inkscape-specific issue: 
The same behavior (in fullscreen mode , the menus are accessible via 
keyboard, without having the menu bar itself revealed) can be reproduced e.g. 
with GIMP 2.8.2 on Ubuntu 12.10 (up-to-date Beta 2 in VM).

The above is now all academic since the current kernel boots to an oops
and instruction dump.  The only way to get the kernel to boot is by
forcing a 32 bit depth on radeonfb.  There is no way to get radeon KMS
(and consequently the radeon xorg driver) working as far as I can see.

Hi Steve,

yes, after making this changes, all services will come up after a reboot
... with no problems.

And Yes, I know that unity and the logs have nothing to do with each
other. Ok, maybe it was only my impression, that I havent found some
messages in the logfiles in the past. Maybe, I have to review my
logfiles more intensive.

The current NVIDIA driver series 304.x breaks Bino 1.4.0.

Therefore, bino will not work out of the box on Ubuntu 12.10 if nvidia-
current is installed.

A workaround is available upstream. Please consider to update Bino to 1.4.1, or

I've tried to stay clear of political discussions, sigh..

The main reason it was not accepted was that julliard chose not to even
review my patches, so how am I supposed to get it merged in mainline
then?

I'm willing to rework the dsound patches to a cleaner state, and resend
both them and winepulse though if wine devs are finally willing to
review it instead of letting it rot in the patch list until it falls
off. The main reason it's out of tree is that wine never chose to accept
it in the first place.

The only 'review' I got was from Dmitry Timoshkov, see:

Same behavior as originally reported, even with a USB startup disk I
created using 12.04 ISO image.

Steps followed this time:
1) boot with startup disk -> Try Ubuntu.

2) configure WiFi. /var/lib/rfkill/saved-state was not yet created.
Disable all radio using RF kill function key on physical keyboard.

3) reboot, once again select Try Ubuntu. Unity shell shows WiFi icon as 
disabled in the notification area. /var/lib/rfkill/saved-state was found with 
following contents
$ cat /var/lib/rfkill/saved-state
dell-wifi 1
dell-bluetooth 1
phy0 1
hci0 0

4) now press radio kill function key once again that was used in step 2
above. Expect that WiFi is now enabled; it is NOT. Press the key once
again. This time, WiFi is enabled that was configured in step 2 above.
Contents of /var/lib/rfkill/saved-state are still the same, assuming
they will be written to during shut-down to reflect transition from 1 to
0.

This is how it has ALWAYS worked for me: both before and with 12.04.

So, looks like while the /etc/init based mechanism seems to write the
state, the mechanism that is supposed to honor that is not working. Is
it working on your PC? I will be surprised.

I upgraded my PC (http://wiki.ubuntu-it.org/CarlaSella/lshw) from Precise 
Pangolin to Quantal Final.
After reboot I got a message in update manager:
"An error occured, please run package manager from the right-click menu or 
apt-get in a terminal to see what's wrong.
The error message was: Error: BrokenCount > 0: This usually means that yout 
installed packages that have unmet dependencies".

So I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade in terminal and got this message: 
"The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libqtgui4:i386 : Depends: libtiff5:i386 (> 4.0.0-1~) but it is not installed
libtiff4:i386 : Depends: libjbig0:i386 but it is not installed "

So I ran apt-get upgrade -f and solved the problem.

I have a screenshot of Update-manager's message.

Hi,

recently I noticed that the graphical performances of ubuntu have
degraded in certain use cases.

I play quite often with the game hedgewars and I never had troubles in running 
it full screen.
Since few weeks ago, if I play the game full screen now it runs very sluggishly.
This behavior appeared after some package upgrade happened around 1 month ago, 
I think.

If I play the game in windowed mode, it plays fine.

I don't know exactly how to reproduce this, but it has happened several
times now. When I leave Update manager minimized to the launcher for
some time (I never switch off my computer), I cannot maximize it again.
Clicking on the launcher icon does nothing. However, I can still perform
actions via the menu behind a right-click, e.g. "Check for Updates".
This doesn't happen to any other application.

I seem to have found the problem myself.
It was a result of the posting which converted the two greater than symbols to 
their html equivalents

Did cupsd actually crash when you did the tests described in comment
#26? If not, repeat the tests, perhaps trying other modes to restart or
simply stop CUPS. Attach the error_log of a situation where cupsd

slideshow also needs to be removed in preinstalled images, adding a
livecd-rootfs task for this.

having it crash on a tegra ac100 netbook crashes the installer but not X

properly put into a rootshell afterwards.

I believe this problem still exists in 10.04 Lucid.  My attempts to
install 10.04 appear to fail as described in this bug.

My computer is a Toshiba 7200CT, and the specs say that the video is a
"Trident CyberBlade e-4 128-bit graphics accelerator".  In xorg.conf it
lists "BoardName   Cyber 9540", which seems to be the correct driver.
(The NoDCC work around does not help.)

I don't see a way to "tag the bug" to indicate that it affects Lucid.
Would it improve the chances of fixing this bug it I try to install the
Natty version of Ubuntu?

Quantal Desktop 20121012.3 amd64/i386 VirtualBox

After end user setup, during an OEM installation on Virtual Box, the screen 
switch to black instead of starting lightdm.
I'm filing against ubiquity because I haven't find evidence which component is 
responsible of this issue.

The system works, the user can switch to a console with alt+arrow,
lightdm starts correctly on next boots. It is reproducible in VBox, but
couldn't reproduce it on HW.

humm actually /etc/kde4rc seems to have on effect on this issue. The
only work around that I've found is to remove: /usr/share/kubuntu-
default-settings/kde4-profile/default/share/kdeglobals
