[Bug 1063435] Re: Unable to install mencoder in Ubuntu 12.10

2012-10-08 Thread Helio Neto
Quantal uses libx264-123. Medibuntu needs libx264-120 but does not
provide it... But does it really need =120 or should it be >=120 ?
Medibuntu's mencoder has the same version numbers from Quantal one.

2012-10-08 Thread Domen Vrankar
This is occuring to me since I upgraded to 12.10 beta 1. I thought that
it was a problem with the graphics drivers related to having nvidia
optimus.

How to log in:
When I notice that the mouse button gets changed to an arrow and the login
screen isn't shown for one to two seconds (after this time the mouse and
keyboard stop responding so this has to be done before that happens) I press
alt + ctrl +f1 and log in with my user.
Then I restart the gdm with sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart and the login screen
shows up so you can log in normally.

I'm using gnome-shell and gdm.

[Bug 954029] Re: package gettext 0.18.1.1-5ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: gettext:i386 0.18.1.1-5ubuntu3 (Multi-Arch

2012-10-08 Thread Daniel Hartwig
Almost all duplicates here have wine1.4 packages involved.

Binary packages wine1.4-i386 and wine1.4-amd64 both have “Recommends:
gettext”, which is Multi-Arch: allowed. As a result the system attempts
to install both gettext:i386 and gettext:amd64, which is not allowed.
The wine1.4 packages should whether they actually use the package
gettext (see below) and, if so, whether using “Recommends: gettext:any”
is more appropriate.

The direct recommends was introduced with this change:

wine1.4 (1.4-0ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
- Bug fixes only, we are in code freeze.
  * debian/control:
- break/replace packages before 1.4
- Add a lot of optional packages to the list of recommends that were not
  auto-depended on by dh_shlibdeps: gettext, […]

-- Scott RitchieSun, 11 Mar 2012 07:42:41
-0700

however, runtime library support for gettext is provided in the
libgettextpo0 package which is correctly included in ${shlibs:Depends}.
The package gettext should only be interesting for it's tools and shell
script support. Unless wine is using gettext in shell scripts or
manipulating po, gmo files at runtime it probably does not need this
package at all.

[Bug 162046] Re: Deb packages should include configuration files installed in the home directory

2012-10-08 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
Leftover configuration files are not inconvenient, they are the norm
even for dpkg-managed conffiles. And Debian policy forbids packages to
play with the content of /home.

I'm afraid that dpkg is not the right answer for your problem. Maybe
there can be a new tool that hooks into dpkg to detect removals... but
in general I would rather not auto-remove user configuration during a
package removal.

2012-10-08 Thread Chris Vigelius
I am affected by this bug too (rented 1und1 Virtual Server) and I can
confirm that the following steps solve the problem (taken from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed)

1.) add precise-proposed to /etc/apt/sources.list as described

 deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed restricted main
multiverse universe

2.) create /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed as described in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed

3.) sudo apt-get install libc6/precise-proposed libc-bin/precise-
proposed

RE: [Bug 1062201] Re: qemu core dumped by kvm-spice

2012-10-08 Thread Tom Wijmenga
Hey Serge, thanks for your response.

Running the debug module like you asked me to, the attached text file
was generated.

About the crashing before booting Windows: I have no idea. It starts the
VM for about one or two seconds, then dumps the core and kills the VM.
I'd like to point out it kills the VM with any OS, not just Windows 7.
I've tried this with Ubuntu 12.04 (client and server), Windows XP and I
think I also tried it with Windows 2k8 R2. It just crashes the VM if I
start it this way.

The way I am using it now is by using the /usr/bin/kvm command. The way
I installed the server was by using this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~bderzhavets/+archive/lib-usbredir81

Hope you can help,
Tom

[Bug 1030544] Re: Calibre_parallel crashes during pdf to epub export

2012-10-08 Thread Graham Inggs
After shutting down and later powering up the machine that experienced the
problem, I have been unable to reproduce it.
It was reproducible before shutting down though, and came and went as I removed
and re-inserted the line mentioned above.

I think I need to find why a URL needed to be fetched at all, rather than
trying to block it in cssutils.
Perhaps there are still some upgrade checks that need to be removed from
Calibre.

[Bug 1063587] [NEW] autohide stops launcher from re-appearing

2012-10-08 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

If autohide is selected, the launcher can never be re-displayed by
putting the mouse into the "reveal" area - I've tried "restore default
behaviour", changing the reveal location and sensitivity to no avail.
However, as soon as I disable autohide, the launcher re-appears and
works as expected.

[Bug 1063198] Re: Inverse colors when converting png -> pdf

2012-10-08 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
For me, unchecking downsampling option is also a workaround. It seems
that libpdf-api2-perl doesn't like

convert -depth 8 -resize 516x730 input.png input.tif

Then the script below with PDF::API2 produces the inverted colours.

input.png[1] PNG 2481x3508 2481x3508+0+0 8-bit PseudoClass 256c 226KB 0.000u
0:00.000
input.tif[2] TIFF 516x730 516x730+0+0 8-bit DirectClass 228KB 0.000u 0:00.000

Without the -resize option, the colours are fine.

input.png[1] PNG 2481x3508 2481x3508+0+0 8-bit PseudoClass 256c 226KB 0.000u
0:00.009
input.tif[2] TIFF 2481x3508 2481x3508+0+0 8-bit PseudoClass 256c 239KB 0.000u
0:00.000

So it looks as though libpdf-api2-perl doesn't like DirectClass TIFFs:

convert -depth 8 -resize 516x730 -type palette input.png input.tif

input.tif TIFF 516x730 516x730+0+0 8-bit PseudoClass 256c 93.5KB 0.000u
0:00.000

And yes - the colours are then correct.

#!/usr/bin/perl -w
use strict;
use PDF::API2;
use Image::Magick;
my $pdf = PDF::API2-> new(-file => 'test.pdf');
my $image= Image::Magick->new;
$image->Read('input.tif');
my $resolution = $image->Get('x-resolution');
my $w  = $image->Get('width') / $resolution;
my $h  = $image->Get('height') / $resolution;
my $page = $pdf->page;
$page->mediabox( $w * 72, $h * 72 );
my $gfx = $page->gfx;
my $img = $pdf->image_tiff($tiff);
$gfx->image( $img, 0, 0, $w * 72, $h * 72 );
$pdf->save;
$pdf->end;

[Bug 954029] Re: gettext fails to install; package relationships should be with "gettext:any" or are not required/useful

2012-10-08 Thread Daniel Hartwig
At least one report here (bug #977078) features playonlinux which
depends on gettext-base. That report also contains the wine1.4 packages
which are problematic, though since playonlinux is arch: all and appears
to be using gettext-base for it's shell script support the dependency in
playonlinux could be changed to gettext-base:any to avoid problems.

you have assessed this and disagree.

[Bug 1062970] Re: mtrr: no MTRR for e0000000,10000000 found

2012-10-08 Thread Johan
Currently my system shows:

[0.00] Found optimal setting for mtrr clean up

I ran apport-collect 1062970, but it didn't really do anything besides
starting a browser and telling me I was already logged in. Due to the
massive list of open bugs in Apport, I also have stopped using Apport,
since it didn't work in 80% of the cases or so for various reasons, none
of them which are related to me the user. I.e., the success rate is too
low for it to be useful. If you want your bugs reported with higher
quality, concentrate on fixing apport first.

See https://bugs.launchpad.net/apport for the already existing massive
list of open bugs for Apport.

For this particular problem there appears to be a correlation between
the fglrx driver being loaded and this problem, but whether it's really
fglrx's fault? If you type fglrx mtrr into any search engine, it will
show this correlation nicely. It's certainly not a problem unique to my
machine.
