[Bug 1054776] Re: Don't include remote searches in the home lens
Come on, there must be better ways to make money. This is a direct attack on users privacy by sending, what the user thinks are local searches, to Amazon. If this really will be implemented, Ubuntu and Canonical will lose all the trust they had to work hard for to gain. Linux users in general are a technical and very privacy aware people, who cannot and will not stand for this. I for one always used to go around and promote Ubuntu as a great OS for everyone, with this rather shady move you'll take very good arguments away from me and I will have to look elsewhere for a distribution where the user is king and not the advertising partners of Canonical. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054776 Title: Don't include remote searches in the home lens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-shopping/+bug/1054776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1054880] Re: evince crashed with SIGABRT in raise()
** Visibility changed to: Public ** Description changed: I have a 40M PDF that crashed evince, and okular when I tested it too. I'm running xorg-edgers at the moment, so cairo is a development version, but that shouldn't affect okular, so I'm trying out the theory that it's not related to edgers. + + I'll upload the big pdf if needed. [Bug 1045047] Re: Firewire camera is not recognized
> I suppose this points to defect HW? Yes. > How easy are these things to break? Ports which adhere to the old IEEE 1394:1995 specification are electrically more prone to damage during hotplugging than later 1394a:2000 hardware. And the 4-pin iLink ports are mechanically not very reliable. Damaged 6-pin 1394a ports or 9-pin 1394b ports on the other hand are not very common but do occasionally happen. > Will try older Ubuntu later. If you have the opportunity, please do so. A driver regression is unlikely to be the cause of this problem but it would be good if you could test with older firewire-ohci + firewire-core kernel drivers, or ideally with the ohci1394 + ieee1394 + raw1394 kernel drivers of kernel 2.6.36 or older to be sure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045047 Title: Firewire camera is not recognized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1045047/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1053302] [NEW] ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars set to false shows no arrows in several cases
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I'm running 12.04, and prefer the more conservative style "normal" scrollbars over the overlay scrollbars. I have set them to false in the terminal: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars false However after doing so, with some apps (e.g. Nautilus, Document Viewer) my scrollbars only view a vertical bar, but no arrows on the top and bottom to scroll up and down (please find the screenshot attached for the bottom part). With some programs these are shown though, for instance Gummi and Texmaker. It would make a big difference (for instance when having to scroll pdf documents containing several hundreds of pages) to have those arrows reinstated. Moreover, it is more aestetic and adds to the pleasant working experience Unity is. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: 12.04 arrows false missing overlay scrollbars scrolling unity -- ubuntu-overlay-scrollbars set to false shows no arrows in several cases https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1053302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1054883]
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1054883/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 317781] Re: Ext4 data loss
As far as I understand, the problem has been fixed for overwriting by rename and overwriting by truncate. Is it an issue at all for just overwriting part of a file, without truncating it first? I realize that there are basically no guarantees when fsync() is not used, but will such writes to already allocated blocks be written on every commit interval (by default 5 seconds)? Or can the changes possibly remain in the cache much longer, since there is no chance of metadata corruption? (It would seem that the inode wouldn't have to change except for modification time, and unlike for newly allocated blocks, there is also no security issue, since the owner of the file can only get access to his own stale data after a crash, not somebody else's, as it would be with newly allocated blocks.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317781 Title: Ext4 data loss To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ecryptfs-utils/+bug/317781/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1053173] Re: minidlna crashes on boot when no active network connection
Attached the minidlna.conf upstart init file. Here is how to use it: First You need to copy it to /etc/init/ cp minidlna.conf /etc/init/ Then you need to remove minidlna from the old systemv init system by typing: sudo update-rc.d -f minidlna remove now you need to symlink the upstart script to /etc/init.d/ like these: cd /etc/init.d/ sudo ln -s /lib/init/upstart-job minidlna now you can check that it works by typing $ sudo service minidlna start minidlna start/running, process 8369 $ sudo service minidlna stop minidlna stop/waiting $ sudo initctl start minidlna minidlna start/running, process 8417 $ initctl status minidlna minidlna start/running, process 8417 If you get these work then you good to go. [Bug 1054776] Re: Don't include remote searches in the home lens
I suggest a opt-in with a privacy protection notice. - to prevent accidental leakage of local information (file paths) - have a separate search bar for online searches - a local filter won't make it, cause an error in the file path (typing "secrez-filename" won't exactly match locally, but some fuzzy matching online would alarm some special person "oh, where is a 'secret-filename'!") - to inform the user what data is shared with others - pop up a notice about what, who, why (the obvious needs to be told) etc. - if he wants it or not ("no" and "yes") - consequences in case of clicking "no" - a link to the third party (amazon) privacy agenda - required by german law (especially cause its commercial? would need to look that up) - a checkbox somewhere to revoke - granularity and configurability is your judgement -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1054776 Title: Don't include remote searches in the home lens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-lens-shopping/+bug/1054776/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 410534] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc()
gnome-settings-daemon is automatically respawning once killed, so I'm not sure how to attach Valgrind to it (or how to stop it from respawning). I'm searching the web for info, but if someone sees this please drop me a hint to speed things up, thanks. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: quantal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/410534 Title: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_alloc() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/410534/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
