[Bug 1012533] [NEW] No route to VPN server added when connected via Mobile Broadband
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS network-manager-openvpn 0.9.4.0-ubuntu1 I'm trying to use OpenVPN via Network Manager in a configuration that passes all traffic over the VPN tunnel (i.e. the default route is set to tun0). This works fine when using wifi as the underlying network connection, but does not work when I use UMTS ("Mobile Broadband") as the underlying connection. (Both connections work fine for accessing the Internet without VPN.) The tunnel is established but no traffic is passed over it, because the routing table is wrong. Thus, everything works as expected. (I have redacted our internal routes that are pushed via OpenVPN and are also in the routing table, because they are not relevant for this problem.) Therefor, the VPN-encapsulated datagrams are sent to the VPN interface once again, which clearly is not right. Why does Network Manager not add the host route like it does when connected over wifi? Is it because hso0 is a P-t-P link? Yes, unity 5.12-ubuntu1.1 helps. But the Unity performance is still unedifying. Ubuntu (3D): # Moving windows is and fading effects are still very jerky. # glxgears runs at 30 fps # glxgears -fullscreen crawls most of the time at 5 fps but sometimes jumps up to 18 fps. Ubuntu 2D: # Moving windows feels like it was before in 10.04. The window moves together with the pointer, no more drag but not smooth. # glxgears runs at 60 fps and seems to be limited by the screen refresh rate. Good! # glxgears -fullscreen still crawls along with 4.7 fps. I think this is actually the aptdaemon bug #981124 that we are hitting here. I uploaded a fix into precise-proposed and I think it only affects i386, this is why I was not able to reproduce this myself. Phillip On _no_ partitions did /etc/fstab mention /dev/sdc7, or its UUID. sdc7 didn't exist til I made it with gparted about 10 mins before I partimage-restored the 12.04 precise os. to recap, The 'copy from' (the old) partition was sdc1, UUID 898 The 'copy to' (the new) partition was sdc7, UUID changed to 000 sda7 was just a old natty narwhale OS that I tried reinstalling grub from. Does that help? I spose the big question is, where does grub2 get the uuid's for the 'search' line, vs where grub2 gets the uuid for the 'linux' line. I think this bug is related to anything that uses the graphics card for accelleration, be it 3D games, Flash, Blender or Chromium. It also seems to only happen on specific graphics cards, and I'm not 100% sure they're all from NVIDIA. I had a similar thing happen on my laptop with an intgrate Intel 950 card, just after 12.04 release, but that problem vanished soon after. I know there was some issues with the Intel graphics driver on release of 12.04, so maybe that is what fixed it. I don't have this problem at all on I think the only way you can re-create this bug is by having hardware that causes this bug, and using any software that uses hardware acceleration for a short while. It doesn't seem to be triggered by any specific action beyond that. I get this consistently on Quadro FX 3700, but there is no one thing I do to cause it, and have even had it happened once when I stepped away from the computer for a short while. Generally I have Chromium and the Gnome terminal window open, but have had it happen with just a terminal and Blender. I've done multiple clean installs of 12.04, and I've done a clean install of Fedora 17 with Gnome 3, and had the same bug happen there. A screen shot won't really show it - its like the middle of the screen is lagging compared to the rest of the screen - this only happens with Unity3D so far. What I've noticed there: “On the home screen, the “What’s New” area should use tiles to list, newest first, the applications that appeared most recently in any of your software channels, excluding items that you have already installed” OK, it looks like USC works like this now, but further in the spec I see: “Choosing “More” in the home screen area should navigate to a separate “What’s New” screen that uses a software tile view to list, newest first, the 60 applications that appeared most recently in any of your software sources, regardless of whether they are installed.” According to that, I should see installed applications there but it's not the case at the moment in USC. Also, I see only 20 (not 60) programs listed and in the list view (not tile view), but these are problems for another bug reports.
