[Bug 979595] [NEW] Transmission disappears from launcher when it should not
Public bug reported: 100% reproducible. The transmission window is showing, but not recognized as existing by Unity Launcher. Steps to reproduce 1. Start transmission 2. Close it to system tray 3. Click on the transmission icon 4. Select "Show Transmission" 5. After the transmission window appears, change focus to any other program window 6. Click on the transmission icon 7. (Un)Select "Show Transmission" 8. Select "Show Transmission" At this time the transmission window appears, and is not found in the Unity Launcher. If transmission is pinned in the launcher, it attempts to start a new instance of the program. [Bug 880876] Re: Unity causes ibus to not work correctly (spaces incorrectly placed)
I'm using the beta version of Ubuntu 12.04 Precise (64bit), and this problem doesn't seem to exist anymore after upgrading a few times from the beta1 (more precisely after upgrading unity). So if you install beta2, it should be fine. Precise is still in the beta stage, but for me, it's much better than Oneiric. It also has some serious other bugs fixed (e.g https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/818830 ) I also had a problem with getting files in NTFS file system on my external HDD when I used Oneiric. [Bug 933209] Re: No sound after startup (audio device shown as Dummy Output)
Yes, that's helpful. This one seems to be the first sign of failure: > dbus[625]: [system] Failed to activate service 'org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit': timed out Without consolekit, PulseAudio won't have access to sound cards. Second, this: > pulseaudio[1075]: [pulseaudio] server-lookup.c: Unable to contact D-Bus: > org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NotSupported: Unable to > autolaunch a dbus-daemon without a $DISPLAY for X11 It looks like pulseaudio is first being started inside a console, or some other context that can't access X. I'm really not an expert on the consolekit/dBus stuff, but it looks like PulseAudio is not the primary source of failure here. > I noted that pulseaudio is started by 106 on startup, is this normal?
