Is this also a result of the change to the default umask to be 0002 in
Ubuntu https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/umask-to-0002 in
oneiric?

[Bug 709245] Re: ARM SMP scheduler performance bug

2012-01-09 Thread Ming Lei
Finally, Will Deacon figured out a workaround for the issue on arm code, see
below upstream commit:
(CONFIG_PL310_ERRATA_769419 is needed for the fix)

commit 11ed0ba1754841316d4095478944300acf19acc3
Author: Will Deacon
Date: Mon Nov 14 17:24:58 2011 +0100

ARM: 7161/1: errata: no automatic store buffer drain

This patch implements a workaround for PL310 erratum 769419. On
revisions of the PL310 prior to r3p2, the Store Buffer does not
automatically drain. This can cause normal, non-cacheable writes to be
retained when the memory system is idle, leading to suboptimal I/O
performance for drivers using coherent DMA.

This patch adds an optional wmb() call to the cpu_idle loop. On systems
with an outer cache, this causes an explicit flush of the store buffer.

Same as above but the gui prompts for the password when trying to connect to

[Bug 887663] Re: Merge with Debian 20110122

2012-01-09 Thread Timo Aaltonen
You need to get rid of "preseed-X" part of en/appendix/preseed.xml, it
got removed from Debian already

http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/d-i/trunk/manual/en/appendix/preseed.xml?r1=56148&r2=56249

though they still have it in the translated versions, you could remove
those as well (filed bug 655210 to Debian about it).

[Bug 776499] Re: gvim gets no global menu, timeout warning on the console

2012-01-09 Thread Weeble
I found the workaround in #7 helpful, but it had two problems, one
major, one minor: It doesn't dissociate vim from the terminal, so if you
close the terminal window vim gets abruptly terminated too; also, vim
spits out quite a few GTK warnings on the console, which I'd rather not
see. Here's what I'm using now:

function gvim {
/usr/bin/gvim -f $* > /dev/null 2> /dev/null & disown
}

I tried nohup to begin with, but it didn't seem to help. The process was
still killed by a sighup when the terminal closed. The redirect and
disown seems to work better.

[Bug 912425] Re: Ubuntu sometimes doesn't boot

2012-01-09 Thread Steve Langasek
The console output also shows that the hostname job fails on boot, which
is abnormal; this job simply calls the 'hostname' command, which is
located on the root partition and is a required package. So your system
seems to be in an inconsistent state. Please install the debsums tool
with 'sudo apt-get install debsums' and post the output of 'debsums -s'
from this system.

[Bug 910691] Re: other dpkg problems

2012-01-09 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
> thanks for having my name misspelled intentionally.

Dude, sorry, it was not intentional.

Anyway, I'm now marking the bug as invalid because those warnings are to
be expected during early setup. You can file a bug against debootstrap
if you want because the 3 warnings about missing
description/maintainer/architecture are the fault of debootstrap when it
creates the initial status file. For the rest, there's nothing to be
done.

[Bug 899159] Re: [sandybridge-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7b009004

2012-01-09 Thread Hernando Torque
Standard Wine from Precise repos, no changes to the config or
installations via winetricks.

The game in question is Ski Challenge 2012
(http://www.skichallenge.at/en/download - 80MB download plus 80MB auto-update
:-/).
It happens more frequent when I crank up the video settings. Not playing other
DirectX games, so I cannot comment on that. I tried to reproduce it with the
old 3DMark2001 benchmark but w/o luck, the Unigine benchmarks for Windows
wouldn't run in Wine. A smaller program triggering the hangs would be helpful I
guess.

[Bug 873497] Re: package tzdata 2011k-0ubuntu0.10.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Segmentation fault)

2012-01-09 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that a package failed to install due to a segmentation fault in
application being used by the package installation process.
Unfortunately, this bug report isn't very useful in its current state
and a crash report would be much more useful. Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service

[Bug 913715] [NEW] update-manager gets confused by packages in "in" state

2012-01-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

On precise, if you get packages in dpkg "in" state (to install, not
installed), update-manager will only test that package as to install and
ignore all the other options:

easy steps to reproduce:
- install a -dbgsym package which has a conflict -dbg in the normal archive
(i.e nautilus-dbgsym)
- wget the -dbg
- sudo dpkg -i dbg.deb (which conflicts)
- sudo apt-get -f install

[Bug 892324] Re: Computer crashes when connected to some wifi networks

2012-01-09 Thread Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre
Romano, please file a new separate bug for your crash since it's most
likely not the same issue at all.

demoniodojo,

Could you try to reproduce this issue and take a screenshot or photo or
the errors you're seeing on screen? The issue you're describing sounds a
lot like a kernel panic if the system crashes and locks up with the
display reverting to text mode (and long error messages). I'll reassign
this to 'linux' and stay subscribed to this bug, in case it happens to
not be a panic at all; but we'll need to see the error messages for the
crash to know for sure.

Thanks!

[Bug 702849] Re: package libc6 2.12.1-0ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: podproces nowy skrypt pre-installation został zabity sygnałem (Naruszenie ochrony pamięci)

Could you try recreating
this issue by enabling apport to catch the crash report 'sudo service
apport start force_start=1' and then trying to install the same package
again? This process will create a new bug report so I am marking this
one as Invalid. Thanks again for helping out!

[Bug 913719] [NEW] gets confused by packages in the dpkg "in" state

2012-01-09 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

Using current precise, it's easy to get:

- install a dbgsym for a package which has dbg in the archive (i.e
nautilus-dbgsym)
- wget the dbg.deb
- sudo dpkg -i deb.dbg (should fail on a conflict)
- sudo apt-get -f install (should clean the dbg)

update-manager should only list nautilus-dbg to install

[Bug 913724] [NEW] unable to upgrade to 12.04

Public bug reported:

Hi, I tried to upgrade to 12.04 from 10.04, but it failed.

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be
caused by held packages.

[Bug 912913] Re: Update-manager should not require authentication password in Precise

2012-01-09 Thread Marc Deslauriers
The password should not be required when you are only updating packages.
Some updates may try to pull in new dependencies, and kernel updates are
considered to be new packages, in which case the password is required.

Are you sure update-manager isn't trying to install new packages?
