[Bug 668415] Re: Movement of Unity launcher

2011-12-22 Thread Magnes
Tablets, phones and some LCDs with pivot have portrait mode in which
launcher on the left takes too much space and is ridiculously high.
Tablets especially are often used in this mode. So if you want to make
Unity for tablets you need to make it movable anyway. (and on phones it
would have to be on the bottom anyway - most new phones are 16:9 and
used in portrait with little space for launcher on the left)

[Bug 907674] [NEW] Missing Lao Telecom, Unitel and Beeline(Tigo) in Lao PDR

2011-12-22 Thread ryanbeales
Public bug reported:

Hello, I am travelling through Laos at the moment and saw the recent
update to mobile-broadband-provider-info in 11.10. Package version is
2013-1ubuntu0.11.10. I've noticed only ETL was listed in the
providers for Lao PDR.

I have the APN details for the other three networks here:

Lao Telecom:
M-Phone/M-Broadband APN: ltcnet

Unitel:
3G APN: unitel3g
2G APN: startelecom

Beeline (Tigo):
APN: tigolaonet

Any other values are defaults.

[Bug 907641]

2011-12-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/907641/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 903752] Re: [MIR] sssd

2011-12-22 Thread Timo Aaltonen
About the libsemanage dependency; as far as I understand, it's only
needed if the host is using SELinux together with sssd configured with a
'local' domain (so that pam_sssd handles local accounts). So if we are
not interested in fully supporting SELinux in main, the build-dep could
be dropped.

ding-libs should be simple, it's just libs that used to be part of sssd
but split as an external package so others can use them too.

[Bug 907679] [NEW] xrandr --auto should turn off disconnected displays to free crtcs

2011-12-22 Thread Ketil Malde
Public bug reported:

In most cases, 'xrandr --auto' does the Right Thing configuring the
avilable displays. However, after I have used the VGA output of my
laptop and return to use the HDMI output from my docking station, I get
this message:

% xrandr --auto
xrandr: cannot find crtc for output HDMI3

The setup look like this:

% xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
277mm x 156mm
   1366x768 59.6*+
   1360x768 59.8 60.0
   1024x768 60.0
   800x60060.3 56.2
   640x48059.9
VGA1 disconnected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
0mm x 0mm
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI3 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   1680x1050 59.9 +
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 60.0
   800x60075.0 60.3
   640x48075.0 60.0
   720x40070.1
DP2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

Note that VGA1 is disconnected, but configured with 1024x768.
Deconfiguring it works:

% xrandr --output VGA1 --off
% xrandr --auto

This isn't entirely obvious to figure out, and I think --auto should do
this (i.e. turn off unused displays to free a crtc) automatically. If
this is unacceptable for some reason, I suggest the error message should
be changed to be more informative, e.g. something like:

% xrandr --auto
xrandr: cannot find crtc for output HDMI3. VGA1 is currently configured
but disconnected, to free its crtc, use 'xrandr --output VGA1 --off'. To share
a crtc, configure HDMI3 with the same mode as a configured display.

(This is on a Lenovo X220, with Oneiric, but I believe many systems have
fewer crtcs than display connections)

But is this really necessary?

Three options:
- review feedback and pick a sensible default value
- add a new option to ccsm
- link the actual radius with some other element that makes sense, e.g. the
shadow decoration.

KDE has a configurable border size somewhere in its theme options (option
#2). Gnome 2 used to link the radius with the theme border (option
#3). Windows and MacOS (Lion) don't have a configurable size, same as Unity
(option #1). I am not sure about Gnome Shell (but the default size seems to
be slightly larger than Unity).

This is on of those cases where a sensible default, well, makes sense. A
size of 8px or 10px would be easier to hit than 5px, without impacting
usability negatively (i.e. it still falls within the visible shadow
decoration, where you are unlikely to click to raise a window). It should
be a relatively simple change with a negligible chance of regressions.

[Bug 907162] Re: The game graphics are extremely glitchy

2011-12-22 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I just installed the game on my laptop, which uses Intel graphics, and I
can't reproduce the problem there, so it is probably specific to my
desktop's graphics setup.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do any further testing on it until two
weeks from now, since I'm leaving my desktop behind when going home for
holiday break. I'll gladly do any further debug work that's requested of
me when I return, however.

[Bug 907690] [NEW] CVE-2011-3205: DoS (memory corruption and daemon restart) or remote Gopher servers.

2011-12-22 Thread Mahyuddin Susanto
Public bug reported:

Description
Buffer overflow in the gopherToHTML function in gopher.cc in the Gopher
reply parser in Squid 3.0 before 3.0.STABLE26, 3.1 before 3.1.15, and 3.2
before 3.2.0.11 allows remote Gopher servers to cause a denial of service
(memory corruption and daemon restart) or possibly have unspecified other
impact via a long line in a response. NOTE: This issue exists because of a
CVE-2005-0094 regression.

[Bug 870742] Re: g_value_get_object: assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_OBJECT (value)' failed ) spam in nautilus

2011-12-22 Thread Forage
I'm one of those users who is "bothered" by this issue. Not necessarily
because of the errors itself, but it renders the file .xsession-errors
basically useless. The amount and frequency of the errors flooding the
file makes it almost impossible to track other issues.

Could it please be backported to Oneiric?

[Bug 548720] Re: BCM2046 Bluetooth not working

2011-12-22 Thread Benjamin Rosnick
I have a Samsung RV511 running ocelot, with a USB BCM2046 bluetooth
dongle.

I can confirm that upon hotplugging the dongle, lsusb shows that device
is registered, however as other have pointed out, hcitool scan returns:
"Device is not available: No such device". I also experienced the issue
of the gnome applet pretty much not doing anything useful.

In my case, the problem was solved by installing the bluez-compat
package. No further issues with the device. Hope that helps!

There's no conflict between the quotes above. Getting a non-NULL
pointer is no indication whatsoever about whether the extension is
supported or not supported.

The reason is this: suppose the very first call in main() is
glXGetProcAddress("glGenTransformFeedbacks"). At this point, the GL
library can't determine whether the extension is supported because it
hasn't even opened an X display connection. Depending on which
display/GPU is used, the extension may or may not be supported. So if
libGL implements the function (or can generate a dispatch stub for it)
it must return the pointer for it right away.

Later on, the app has to check GL_EXTENSIONS to see if
GL_ARB_transform_feedback2 is really supported. If the extension is not
supported and the function is called anyway, things might blow up.

This is an application bug.

[Bug 907188] Re: Asus EB1007 can't wake up from suspend when suspended using pm-suspend

2011-12-22 Thread Tim Chen
I observed the desktop suspend will bring down network
interfaces(/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager), so I bring down
ethernet manually with: ifconfig eth4 down, then did pm-suspend. The
resuming is ok.(unplug the ethernet cable also does the trick)

By checking pm-suspend.log.desktop and pm-suspend.log.vt, there's slightly
difference.
--- pm-suspend.log.vt
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager suspend suspend: success.
Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/60_wpa_supplicant suspend suspend:
Selected interface 'wlan3'
OK
--- pm-suspend.log.desktop
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/55NetworkManager suspend suspend: success.
Running hook /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/60_wpa_supplicant suspend suspend:
Failed to connect to wpa_supplicant - wpa_ctrl_open: No such file or directory
-
No matter run pm-suspend manually or run from desktop, pm-suspend is called,
but I think there's still some difference which may make the system wake up
unsuccessfully.

Tested Natty full installation, both desktop and running pm-suspend directly
are ok.

[Bug 907709] [NEW] Windows fail to refresh unless moved

2011-12-22 Thread Adam Reeve
Public bug reported:

Using Unity 3D with an Nvidia 9600GT video card, nvidia-173-updates
drivers (version 173.14.30-0ubuntu5). When interacting with
applications, they don't show any changes unless I move the window. So
eg. in gnome-terminal, if I enter a command, I have to move the terminal
window before I can see the output.

Please let me know if there are any further details that can help.

[Bug 886947] Re: Totem Download Movie Subtitles hangs on loading the subtitles

This was already fixed for 12.04 with the patch for bug 883694. All that
needs to be done is for that fix to be released as an SRU for Ubuntu
11.10.

Re: [Bug 689734] Re: HAProxy fails to start at boot time

2011-12-22 Thread Simon Bazley
I've not tried this on a newer version of ubuntu, as I only tend to use
LTS versions. I haven't got my head around the new post sys V startup
thing, but the issue was that it needs to start after networking, but
was trying to start before it.

I would assume from what you're saying, that in 10.04 it was configured
to 'require' local_fs and network to have started. That would make
sense, but it didn't seem to be doing that in my case, as it was trying
to start before the aliased IPs had started. Not sure why they wouldn't
have been included in the 'network' command.

Also not sure that adding 'remote_fs' would help, unless that somehow
adds the dependancy for the aliased IPs, when networking doesn't. I'll
check this out when I next have time to try out a new desktop OS.

Thanks Scott,

Simon

[Bug 907015] Re: could we have another shutdown menu?

2011-12-22 Thread Redmar
A similar bug was reported for oneiric, and there the response was that the
size of the gear-menu was key, which was why the 'restart' option could not
appear there. When discovery is key, it would be better if the 'restart' option
was moved to the main gear-menu. This would also be more consistent, since the
options for logoff, restart, suspend and hibernate are already in that menu
This would just add a single line, which means the 'gear' menu will still be
much smaller than the messages, date, or network menu.

I know this is a minor thing, but its an LTS and it would be great if
ubuntu looks as nice as possible.

[Bug 828731] Re: kdump functionality not working as expected when /boot is a separate partition

2011-12-22 Thread Louis Bouchard
Steve,

I am currently testing a slightly modified version of your patch which
seems to work to some extent. Multiple partitions (i.e. /boot, /usr and
/var) do work, depending on the type of file system used. A mix of ext2,
ext4, xfs work fine but I currently have a failure when /var is jfs :
for some reason, but initramfs environment refuses to mount /var as jfs,
even if the jfs kernel module is present & loaded.

I will carry on with my test when I return for the xmas vacation in
early jan. I'll keep you posted with my findings. Let me know if you
want me to post the current version of the patch here.

[Bug 907721] [NEW] Move notify osd closer to the panel, as design of firefox has now changed

2011-12-22 Thread Sayantan Das
Public bug reported:

I remember, NotifyOSD bubbles were moved further down because users
complained they could not access the search bar in firefox. However, its
been a year since the designs of FF has changed, the bar has moved up
and ubuntu is using the global menu. This has saved a lot of space and
now if you see the screenshots attached with this report, you will be
able to see that there is a lot of space between the search bar and the
OSD bubble. I suggest it should be fixed as this would improve the
overall look and feel of the OS.

[Bug 907724] [NEW] can't assign numpad keys correctly to shortcuts

2011-12-22 Thread C . Schöll
Public bug reported:

uname -a : Linux -Ubuntu-x64 3.0.0-14-generic #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon
Nov 21 20:28:43 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

running Unity.

I switch workspaces a lot so i found it usefull to be able to switch them even
quicker by assigning the directions to the arrow keys on the numpad. My numpad
is (while Numlock is off) a bunch of PageUp, PageDown, Home, End et cetera keys.
When turning numlock on, all these functions are disabled in favor to the
numbers.

The problem is, that the shortcut is apparently not assigned to the
Arrow but the Key itself, so pressing Num4 also triggers the shortcut to
switch to the left, even while Numlock is activated. Thus, assigning
shortcuts to the NumPad - Arrows makes it absolutely unusable to enter
numbers, which in some way is the main use of the numpad.

What I'd like it to be like:
While the NumLock is off, i can trigger the Shortcut.
While the NumLock is on, i can type numbers.

[Bug 772212] Re: Unity -- Moving min/max/close buttons back to right hand side for full screen windows

2011-12-22 Thread heidiklumsex
If you're left-handed, Unity is unbearable! I want the window buttons on
the right side. I want the launcher on the right side. And I want the
system menu on the left. Just provide these options! Stop discriminating
left-handed people! Aren't Linux users always promoting how customizable
Linux is? Clearly, this is a lie!

[Bug 856293] Re: oem-config not removed after install on preinstalled desktop images due to debconf.dat being locked

2011-12-22 Thread Happy
I did this command sudo oem-config remove, but it response with
"Ubiquity already running". So it does not fix the installation problem.
After reboot it returns to the language selection again
