[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.

2011-12-02 Thread Florin Coras
Well, at least we're two. I can reproduce this bug on my laptop with an Nvidia
NVS 140M shortly after a restart. For me, the sluggishness/jerkiness never goes
away. This might have to do with my card being a bit outdated.

Same holds for bugs 861061 and 880707. So, I'm really looking forward to a
compiz (and unity) fix Christmas present.

Daniel, thanks for writing and pushing for the fix!

I'll attach the log and job later.

Yes, I beleive so.

them?

I'll test and post the results later.

I don't beleive so, I used only the defaults.

/etc/X11/xorg.xonf is almost same as mine...
So, this bug is somehow connected with xserver-xorg-video-* packages,
or u just installed them to resolve dependencies from legacy xserver-xorg

[Bug 872207] Re: When Firefox is running in Unity, drop-down menus sometime close when opened

2011-12-02 Thread zzarko
This bug was one of main reasons that I stopped using Unity in 11.04 and
went back to Gnome 2. After upgrade to 11.10, it kind of dissapeared,
showing only occasionaly, but in the last couple of days (maybe after
some of the updates) it became again very annoying. I minimize/maximize
Firefox at least once in 20 minutes (or, when that doesn't work, close
it and start again). It really goes on my nerves, but, alas, I cannot go
back to Gnome 2, nor use Gnome Shell (it still has issues with my Radeon
card). Unity 2D, last time I tried, didn't have all the features of 3D
version (and I don't mean eye-candy). Mint (debian) anyone?

[Bug 898740]

2011-12-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/898740/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Test program that demonstrates wrong backtrace on 64-bit

glibc's backtrace() function fails to give a complete backtrace with 64-bit
code when calling a recursive function. A 32-bit executable does produce a
correct backtrace. Using -fno-omit-frame-pointer does not solve the problem for
the 64-bit code.

This problem still exists with current glibc from git. I built glibc
from git at 2011-01-22 and linked the attached program to the freshly
built libc. I tried both static and dynamic linking; both give wrong
output.

Output of 32-bit executable:

[Bug 898999] [NEW] System hangs during boot with a message "Unattended upgrade during shutdown. Sleeping for 5s"

2011-12-02 Thread jojo
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a flash drive with persistence using some
software available on Pendrivelinux.com. The installation went fine and
i was able to boot successfully from the flash drive after the
successful installation.

When I started working in the new system, I got a message about
installation of some Restricted Drivers. It was possibly some missing
wifi drivers due to which my wifi was not working. I applied the
restricted drivers and rebooted the system. Eversince, I did that, I am
not able to boot into the application. It always hangs at "Unattended
upgrades during shutdown. Sleeping for 5s".

I tried formatting my usb drive and reinstalled but for no use. It
happened the same way.

[Bug 899001] [NEW] gst-install wants to install i386-version of codec packages on amd64

2011-12-02 Thread Jan Rathmann
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I was testing video playback in Precise Alpha 1 and tried to watch a MP4
video file.

After Totem started, the gst-install window came up correctly but wanted
to install the i386-versions of the corresponding codec packages (see
attached screenshot). The amd64-versions were also shown but unselected
by default.

Selecting the amd64 packages and trying to install them failed after
some time with an "unexspected error" that occured (detailed error
message: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a
reply (timeout by message bus) ).

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 899008] [NEW] Asus touchpad disabling doesn't work. Found the error in getXconsole.

2011-12-02 Thread Vegard Loekken
Public bug reported:

After following the trace of my /etc/acpi/asus-touchpad.sh, I found that
the error was in the getXconsole function of /usr/share/acpi-support
/power-funcs.

When asus-touchpad.sh is runned, it is runned as root (understandably),
but that makes this line fail:

displaynum=`ps t tty$console | sed -n -re 's,.*/X .*:([0-9]+).*,\1,p'`

since that only gets root's processes.

I changed it to:

displaynum=`ps at tty$console | sed -n -re 's,.*/X .*:([0-9]+).*,\1,p'`

and now it works like a charm.

Just thaught I should mention it, so that the authors can fix it, but
also so that other users with the same problem can fix it themself.

[Bug 899013] [NEW] Google search bar delivers english results on first start of Firefox instead of localized ones

2011-12-02 Thread Jan Rathmann
Public bug reported:

Hello,

on a fresh Precise Alpha1 installation search results through the Google
search bar (right beside the URL bar) are English during the first run
of Firefox, allthough the system's locale (and the one in Firefox too)
is German.

You can reproduce it the following way:

- Boot a fresh installation of Precise, whose locale has been set to German on
installation (or perhaps also other languages different from English).
- Start Firefox.
- Enter "Tonne" in the Google search bar on the right top.
- Google displays the English Wikipedia page for "Tonne" as the first result.
- Close Firefox.
- Start Firefox again and do the same search again.
- Now Google displays correctly the German Wikipedia page for "Tonne" as the
first result.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 899009] [NEW] extreme network latencies with ath9k on HP Presario CQ61 on oneiric

2011-12-02 Thread David Ayers
Public bug reported:

I'm using Maverick on a day to day basis on this HP Presario CQ61 and I
have also tested Natty via a USB-stick installation. Both have good
wireless connection behavior. Yet when testing Oneiric via A USB-stick
installation the wireless connection is has extreme latency issues. For
example, using scp to copy the initrd via Natty or Maverick takes about
7 seconds on my network, where Oneiric quickly stalls at about 10% and
takes minutes before reaching 11% after which I abort.

Also access vie NFS stalls, surfing has long latencies as does any other
network transfer.

There's nothing suspicious [for me] the dmesg or syslog and ifconfig
does not report dropped packages.

I'm not sure how I would gather more meaningful information.

[Bug 899009] Re: extreme network latencies with ath9k on HP Presario CQ61 on oneiric

2011-12-02 Thread David Ayers
The UpgradeStatus claims that here is no upgrade log and this may be a
fresh install... yet as the version of the kernel indicates, this
installation as been upgraded a few times already. The issue already
existed with previous 3.0.0-12 versions of the kernel.

That particular string is already translated in Launchpad:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/+source/deja-dup/+pots
/deja-dup/zh_CN/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=previous+backup

We recently released a new batch of language pack updates, but the
Simplified Chinese ones were not yet released, as they haven't been tested.

Could someone from the Simplified Chinese team or a Simplified Chinese
speaker at OEM:

* Test the language packs currently in the oneiric-proposed repository
following the simple instructions below. Remember to add the language to
the table.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA

Once that is done, we can release the language pack to oneiric-updates
for all users, which will get this particular string and other
translations done since the last language pack update.

Thanks.

[Bug 875709] Re: Compiz scale option corrupts minimized windows

2011-12-02 Thread Johannes Gowin
I still have this problem and I'm wondering why nobody else got it.
It's really annoying and if I had any programming/bug fixing skills I would do
it myself.
So again my question: what can I do to get this fixed soon?

[Bug 724022] Re: Wishlist: Enable use of Ubuntu Mono as .psf console-setup font

2011-12-02 Thread Paul Sladen
Christian: Sorry for the delay in replying. I must have missed the CC
email. Yes, there is already 'ubuntu-title' from the Ubuntu "Foundry".
Other people have mentioned doing a Serif version; whether or not that
would fall under the same "family", I couldn't say. Ubuntu Title is in
the package:

  http://packages.debian.org/ubuntu-title

I appreciate that perhaps 'fonts-ubuntu-font-family-console' isn't
great. But is the recommendation I got from others on 'pkg-fonts' at
the time that I asked.

[Bug 580184] Re: Instance without public ip fails reading metadata with separate CC & CLC

2011-12-02 Thread graziano obertelli
I just tested this against our partner cloud (multi cluster setup, so
CLC-CC-SC on one machine and second CC-SC on a second, ran an instance
on the second cluster) and I couldn't reproduce it. Eucalyptus should
masquerade all the traffic coming from the private instance (it's a
catch-all rule at the end so triggered only if more specific rules do
not apply), so the instance, even with only a private address, is able
to get to the metadata store.

This patch has been committed to drm-intel-fixes:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~keithp/linux/commit/?h=drm-intel-fixes&id=8d715f0024f64ad1b1be85d8c081cf577944c847

Can the reporters verify with drm-intel-fixes?

[Bug 840140]

2011-12-02 Thread Florian-evers
Hi,

after some days of using the value 0x, I can tell you that I did
not see any GPU lockups anymore. Unfortunately, the remaining glitches
and artifacts make the system unusable for a productive environment.

* If you "use" the system, after some minutes more and more glitches
appear. For example, the taskbar converts to "noise-only". Then, more
and more widgets start to contain noise, and you'll have to shutdown X
and restart it.

* Screenshots do not work. The created PNG is just black.

* The "RMB-context menu" shows only text and icons, but no surrounding
window.

* You see some icons in the taskbar, but not all.

* If you place your mouse cursor over an icon in the taskbar, the icon
disappears.

* Shutting down KDE crashes "kwin"... might be a different issue.

The goodies:
* KDE works
* Transparency and the desktop effects are working :-)
* I know that my graphics adapter is not defect :-D

Regards,
Florian
