I do not think my patch fix this problem, but perhaps Gertjan's
patch do this:

http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=132112188308082&w=2

Note, if you are hitting the same issue, what is fixed by this patch,
it's enough to do "iwconfig wlan0 power off" to workaround the problem.
So you can avoid applying the patch, and just use above command and
check if issue is still reproducible.

[Bug 785425] Re: 0_kdump uses dynamic makedumpfile(8) binary, which fails horribly

2011-11-23 Thread Louis Bouchard
@Richard: mostly because makedumpfile can be used in other contexts than
from within the kdump realm. I've seen situation where it was used to
reduce the size of an existing vmcore file.

A longer term solution might also be to go back to one single package
with statically linked executable. I still have to discuss the issue
with the Debian upstream maintainer.

[Bug 885118] Re: duplex printing gone

2011-11-23 Thread Till Kamppeter
Dan, your problem is not covered by the fix. The fix applies to a bug in
PDF->PostScript conversion, where the generated PostScript does not
allow duplex on PostScript printers. In your case there is a direct
conversion from PDF to PCL. Please try as alternative driver for your
printer "Generic PCL-5e printer" with the "Foomatic/ljet4d" driver for
example.

[Bug 893904] [NEW] Version 11.1.102.55 for amd64, being native x64, should not depend on nspluginwrapper

2011-11-23 Thread MestreLion

This new version of Flash plugin is already native 64 bits, correct? But

>From control file:

To avoid installing an unneeded package (or worse, triyng to use a

[Bug 893885] Re: Not possible to disable "save password" in network manager

2011-11-23 Thread nathanvda
I am having the same problem here. We are using a device to generate an
OTP, so my password is unique everytime I log on, so automatically
saving the password is actually a hassle for me. I can understand the
default would be to automatically save the password, but isn't there
some option to turn that off?

[Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start

2011-11-23 Thread Silvio Bierman
@Rocko: This does not work for me. For one it does not uninstall the 3.0.0-13
kernel. Secondly it did not fix the boot problem when using that kernel. Also,
my package manager offered an initramfs update and while/after installing that
it started complaining about my package repository being broken because of some
dependencies being out of sync. Had to do a 'sudo aptitude install -f' to fix
that.
Still stuck in the same situation. At this moment 3.0.0-12 is my friend :-(

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server

2011-11-23 Thread Jochen Fahrner
Boleslaw, you misunderstand. A protocol has nothing to do with a user
interface. These are two distinct things.
Look at the POP-protocol: it has no folders, it has no trash and it is not
designed to leave mail on the server. But many mail clients have local folders,
local trash, and leave mail on the server. The protocol is only the transport
mechanism for mail, it has nothing to do with the way a mail client offers mail
to the user.

Now look at IMAP. Many old clients used it similar as POP, they fetched
mail from the server as they did with POP. Folders were only local in
these old clients. Modern clients work different, they leave mail on the
server, they use folders on the server, and since trash is only a normal
folder, they can move deleted mails to the trash folder on the server.
Why should they restrict the user interface to the technical limits of
the underlying protocol? There is no reason to do that.

completely different thing, so on my part it does deserve a special

[Bug 785425] Re: 0_kdump uses dynamic makedumpfile(8) binary, which fails horribly

2011-11-23 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Sure, the makedumpfile(8) program has other uses, but we're talking
about the dependencies of the linux-crashdump metapackage. There's
really only one usage context that's relevant for that.

I wouldn't suggest dropping the makedumpfile package altogether in favor
of makedumpfile-static, but dropping makedumpfile-static and putting a
static binary in makedumpfile makes all the sense in the world. I've yet
to hear any reason why one would need/want the dynamic binary when they
already have a static one. This is a textbook example of a program that
belongs in /bin rather than /usr/bin.

[Bug 828582] Re: Dash: very high latency responding to input

2011-11-23 Thread Mikkel Kamstrup Erlandsen
Right now Unity itself has a pretty high timeout before sending queries
to the lenses. Michal is working on improving the lens side query
handling in various ways by tweaking libunity. This should make it
possible to do the timeouts inside libunity, that is on the lens-side of
things, allowing the lenses themselves to tweak the timeout to their
needs.

Concretely, I propose:

 * Lower the timeout in Unity to something very low
 * Implement another timeout for dispatching LensSearch instances in libunity
 * Make that timeout in libunity a writable property for Scopes to override to
suit their needs

[Bug 893917] [NEW] wxFilePickerCtrl crashes after multiple opening attempts

2011-11-23 Thread bijwaard
Public bug reported:

Dear sir, madame,

When opening a file via a wxFilePickerCtrl multiple times, the
application crashes. Both my developed application, as wxformbuilder
crash with the following error (debug trace attached):

(wxformbuilder:29400): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
_gtk_file_chooser_entry_set_file_part: assertion
`GTK_IS_FILE_CHOOSER_ENTRY (chooser_entry)' failed

(wxformbuilder:29400): Gtk-CRITICAL **: _gtk_file_chooser_entry_set_file_part:
assertion `GTK_IS_FILE_CHOOSER_ENTRY (chooser_entry)' failed
**
Gtk:ERROR:/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.24.6/gtk/gtkfilechooserdefault.c:8751:gtk_file_chooser_default_initial_focus:
 assertion failed: (widget != NULL)
Aborted (core dumped)

This bug is similar to recent reports about the geany tool on x86_64,
that crashes when multiple file-select attempts are done. The resolution
(https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25893) with geany was relinking with
the updated libgtk2 libraries.

Reproducing the bug with wxformbuilder:
- open wxFormbuilder
- create a form with a wxFilePickerCtrl
- open the file picker and choose file
- repeat previous step about 5 times
- crash

Kind regards,
Dennis

[Bug 891639] Re: New email count in top bar and on Thunderbird Unity icon is not updated when mail status changes

2011-11-23 Thread Zilvador
I parrtially have the same problem. The mail count usually does upgrade
correct, but during the day the counter is stuck at a certain lower
limit of 'unread emails'. When I receive a new email, it will count up,
and when I read it, it counts down again, but it doesn't go below the
limit (usually reaches 4-5 mails during the day). It can be influenced
by mails caught by filters and marked as unread when received, but I
cannot confirm this.

[Bug 893925] [NEW] All window titles are static

2011-11-23 Thread Rafael R. Sevilla
Public bug reported:

I noticed that all window titles are always static. I used to look at
the title bar of Firefox to see what the title of the current website
I'm viewing is. Now, it always says just "Mozilla Firefox". I sometimes
open documents in Libre Office by using the File-Open dialog, and it
looks extremely strange to see the window title say 'Untitled Document
1' or (worse yet) the file name of the previous document! I open an
image in GIMP and where the title bar of the image I am editing used to
reflect changes I make (e.g. I change the image size to some other
value, it shows the new value), but now it still shows the old value. If
I save the file to some other name, the window title still shows the old
name. Nautilus will always show 'Home' in its title bar no matter where
I go.

[Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start

2011-11-23 Thread Rocko
@Silvio: running initramfs doesn't uninstall the kernel, it just
rebuilds the initramfs file for the kernel. To uninstall the kernel, use
"sudo apt-get remove linux-image-linux-image-3.0.0-13-generic". Or you
could install synaptic and use it to uninstall the kernel.

[Bug 548631] Re: xubuntu keyboard layout switch shortcuts are not remembered

2011-11-23 Thread Michal Palička
Hello,

I didn't mean that it was simple to solve this bug.
I understand that software bugs might get tricky sometimes.

I meant that the problem itself (i.e. switching keyboard layouts) may seem
simple and not important at the first sight.
Especially for people who don't use multiple keyboard layouts.
That is why I asked for upgrading the importance of this issue.

--

Anyway, how can I help you to get the backtrace?
Shall I attach my .xsession-errors file?

I found out, that the change layout key combination gets also forgotten during
logout.
It is not necessary to reboot the machine.

I can confirm both the alternating behavior with Fn Up Arrow as well as the not

I think it is in Gnome upstream of Ubuntu as this occurs on Fedora 16 (but not
F15) Gnome:

[Bug 887912] Re: Add Adult XDG category

2011-11-23 Thread jatoo
While the app itself has nothing particularly "adult" in it, the problem
is having the word "porn" and a suggestive icon appear unexpectedly (in
front of bosses, co-workers, in-laws etc.) just by looking for apps
about pictures.

If this is the case, then ideally "adult" would be the only place it is
listed, otherwise the issue of it appearing when unwanted won't be
resolved.

[Bug 83337] Re: apt preferences file should allow comments (#) (was: [apport] update-manager crashed with SystemError in open())

2011-11-23 Thread Daniel Hahler
This has regressed:

% cat /etc/apt/preferences
#test

% apt-get source apt
Reading package lists... Done
E: Unable to parse package file /etc/apt/preferences (1)

The man page tells that "Explanation: " would work for commenting
package sections (and "//" does appear to work the same), but it
requires a Package header then anyway (otherwise it results in "E:
Invalid record in the preferences file /etc/apt/preferences, no Package

[Bug 893678] Re: Can't switch back with shift-alt-tab

2011-11-23 Thread Omer Akram
** Description changed:

+ 1. Open two Chromium Web Browser windows
+ 2. open Gnome terminal
+ 3. make sure Chromium's window 1 is focused
+ 4.1 press alt+tab so that terminal is highlighted in the alt-tab switcher
+ 4.2 without leaving the alt key press shift+tab once
+
+ What happens:
+ Chromium's window 2 is brought to front
+
+ What should happen:
+ the last active window i.e. chromium's window 1 should be brought to focus.
+
+
+ =Original Description=
+
I often hit alt+tab, only to change my mind and decide I want to stay on
  the same window, after all.

Unity does not support this behavior if my current application has more
  than one window open.

  Let's say I have two firefox windows. I'm in window A. I hit alt-tab
to go to the terminal. Before I release alt, I change my mind and
decide I want to stay in firefox. I hit shift and tab. Firefox is now
the highlighted application. I release all the keys.

I expect to be taken back to firefox window A. Instead, I am taken to
  firefox window B.

Do you mean "wasn't needed"? The series includes miscellaneous driver
patches to add the necessary module alias tag. If you're missing one,
it should just mean that particular driver won't get autoloaded...
AFAIK vexpress-v2p-ca9 has no DMA controller (?)

[Bug 83337] Re: apt preferences file should allow comments (#) (was: [apport] update-manager crashed with SystemError in open())

2011-11-23 Thread Daniel Hahler
The patch from Debian bug 189866 appears to be there (at least partly),
but does apparently not work as expected in this case.
