It still happens for me with Ubuntu 11.10, too. Though, it only happens

And it only happens when running for some time (current uptime is 3

[Bug 871290] Re: gedit 3 crashes when dragging text

2011-10-11 Thread Christian A. Reiter
here is the crash report.
tried to change to en_US, doesn't make a difference.

What makes a difference ist switching to a new, freshyla created user and
running gedit then.
So I think it is a gedit config update problem as I updated gedit with my
migration from Ubuntu maveric to oneiric, switching from gedit 2 to 3.

[Bug 849414] Re: plymouthd crashed with SIGSEGV in ply_event_loop_process_pending_events()

2011-10-11 Thread James Hunt
I've written a basic script that runs a set of random plymouth commands
"post-boot". I am still unable to recreate the SIGSEGV crash on all my
hardware, but it would be interesting to see if those who are
experiencing the problem can run this script to generate a crash. If
you're willing...

1. Download script:

cd /tmp && wget
http://people.canonical.com/~jhunt/plymouth/test_plymouth.sh

2. Make it executable:

chmod 755 test_plymouth.sh

3. Install required package:

sudo apt-get install plymouth-x11

4. Run 2 instances of script

4a) In one terminal:

  sudo /tmp/test_plymouth.sh --server

4b) In another terminal:

sudo /tmp/test_plymouth.sh --client --max 2048

Unfortunately, you *might* find that the server instance of the script
will exit with a "Too many open files" message. This issue as been
reported with plymouth upstream. To work around this, before running the
server instance of the script

[Bug 371897]

2011-10-11 Thread Gilboad
Short question:
Is PA 1.0 a hard requirement for getting stable sound under wine/alsa/PA combo?
There's a heated discussion over the Fedora development mailing list about
whether PA 1.0 should be introduced as a last-minute-post-beta upgrade mostly
in an effort to restore sound under Wine.

[Bug 371897]

2011-10-11 Thread Alexey Loukianov
(In reply to comment #330)
> Short question:
> Is PA 1.0 a hard requirement for getting stable sound under wine/alsa/PA
> combo?

Quick answer: my tests shows that the hard requirement is to have recent
enough alsa-plugins (at least v.1.0.24). Actually there had been a lot
of PA-related fixes to alsa-plugins since 1.0.24 (last one landed to
alsa-plugins git 12 days ago) and tests I tried at home showed great
improvements in overall sound stability under Wine+PA+ALSA in case I
build alsa-plugins from current git HEAD.

As for PA version - everything around versions 0.9.x seemed to smell
like "public alpha-test of crappy and extremely buggy software". Almost
every version I had tested so far had a lot of bugs, including ones
unrelated to interoperability with Wine (latency issues, incorrect
manipulations with soundcard hw mixer, "rattling", sound distortions,
incompatibilities with other apps, e.t.c.). Latest PA version I had
tested so far was 0.9.23 and I can state that it might be considered
"almost bug-free for general use" in case coupled with latest ALSA and
alsa-plugins from current git. Don't know it they had fixed or broke
something in 1.0 release and I personally wouldn't be happy to have
almost untested piece of software to be included in F16 at a last
minute. It'd be better to post in into rawhide or into testing and have
volunteers test it before letting it into public. This discussion is an
offtop here so I shut up :-).

[Bug 871966] Re: FQDN written to /etc/hosts causes problems for clustering systems

2011-10-11 Thread James Page
As a work-around until this is resolved in one way or another in juju
I'm using:

  dig +short `unit-get private-address`

dig deals with being passed an IP address nicely and will resolve a
hostname correctly to the internal IP address of the instance in ec2 and
openstack environments.

[Bug 872178] [NEW] ROOTDEV export not working

2011-10-11 Thread Xavier Boudet
Public bug reported:

I am using oneiric pre-installed image for omap4 with jasper 0.66.
Script jasper_setup is supposed to use "ROOTDEV"environment value exported by
jasper_growroot.
Installing image on Blaze board (with eMMC support) demonstrate that there is
an issue with "export ROOTDEV" in jasper_growroot, the value is not accessible
then into jasper_setup
By adding some traces into jasper_setup (echo "ROOTDEV=${ROOTDEV}" >>
/dev/kmsg) we can see that ROOTDEV is not set.
Installation on Blaze Board is then failing.

[Bug 872179] [NEW] ipv6: restore correct ECN handling on TCP xmit

2011-10-11 Thread Tim Gardner
Public bug reported:

Since commit e9df2e8fd8fbc9 (Use appropriate sock tclass setting for
routing lookup) we lost ability to properly add ECN codemarks to ipv6
TCP frames.

It seems like TCP_ECN_send() calls INET_ECN_xmit(), which only sets the
ECN bit in the IPv4 ToS field (inet_sk(sk)->tos), but after the patch,
what's checked is inet6_sk(sk)->tclass, which is a completely different
field.

Close bug https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34322

[Eric Dumazet] : added the INET_ECN_dontxmit() fix and replace macros
by inline functions for clarity.

[Bug 368175] Re: Failed to load module "libcanberra-gtk-module.so"

I am converting this to a question given the original reporter asking

Please refer to any other bugs about the issue itself, or create a new
one, if your specific issue is not handled somewhere already.

Please note that you might just have to install both libcanberra-gtk-
module and libcanberra-gtk3-module (bug 872172), or just remove both
libcanberra-gtk-module and libcanberra-gtk3-module.

[Bug 872186] [NEW] notification state continues to oscillate between on and off

2011-10-11 Thread Timo Kluck
Public bug reported:

When I set the notifications to "on", the switch stays on for about two
seconds, then goes back off for about two seconds, comes on again, and
so on. This also means that my visible status on Empathy keeps on
switching, which is probably very annoying for the people who have me in
their contacts list.

Perhaps there is a program that suppresses notifications every now and
then, but I'm not running anything other than the default startup
applications. I've attached the output of ps -A for reference.

This is happening on Oneiric with up-to-date packages as of October 10.

[Bug 872190] [NEW] Festival doesn't understand UTF-8

2011-10-11 Thread jherazob
Public bug reported:

I imagine that this is a job for Upstream, but i still mention it.

Both Debian and Ubuntu have unicode-ized themselves for years now, yet
Festival still cannot process utf-8 strings. This is problematic for
non-english languages. We have to resort to hacks like piping text
through iconv to convert it to iso-8859-1 to be able to use accents and
the like.

I'm using Natty, but have seen the problem for many years. Current
package version is 1:2.0.95~beta-5.1ubuntu2.

Expected: When accents are used, text is spoken correctly
Happened: When accents are used, they are replaced on the spoken text by
gibberish and numbers
Test procedure:
Prerrequisite: standard spanish voice, package festvox-ellpc11k
Test command: echo "Esta es una prueba con texto en español y tildes,
probémosla allá" | festival --language spanish --tts
Workaround: echo "Esta es una prueba con texto en español y tildes, probémosla
allá" | iconv -f utf-8 -t iso-8859-1 | festival --language spanish --tts

[Bug 853849] Re: Update Fails due to btrfs not being able to take a snapshot

2011-10-11 Thread Michael Vogt
Thanks a lot Kat! What happens if you manually create a snapshot with the
folling command:
$ sudo apt-btrfs-snapshot snapshot --debug
any output that may help diagnose the issue?

[Bug 862466]

2011-10-11 Thread Jared
Since the last few Ubuntu 11.10 b2 / unity updates this error seems to
no longer occur.  It was consistently repeatable until mid last week;
However, I am now successfully able to edit current events and create
new events.

[Bug 677815]

2011-10-11 Thread Dave-j0p9
(In reply to Dave Townsend (:Mossop) from comment #15)
> Setting userDisabled should (currently) behave synchronously, so the disable
> events should be sent before that line even completes.

I'm seeing the correct behaviour now and I can't reproduce the previous
erroneous behaviour.

r96097 of ACR has this feature enabled. Any major application upgrade
will cause the ACR to:

1. Disable all locales.
2. Reset the 'general.useragent.locale' and 'intl.locale.matchOS' prefs
3. Restart the application.

Tested with Breton langpack on a Firefox 3.6 -> 7.0 upgrade.

[Bug 176902]

2011-10-11 Thread Chris Coulson
Actually, I was thinking about this last week, but why do we have the
gio support in the mozgnome component? gio exists on any system with a
gtk version of 2.14 or newer (the version there is just plucked from a
brief look through the git history of gtk)

And if we modified the mozgnome component to dynamically check for
gconf/gnomevfs, then is there any point to having the separate component
for them anyway? (perhaps I'm missing the point of putting them in
libmozgnome in the first place though?)
