[Bug 804646] Re: software-center crashed with AttributeError in get_maintenance_status()

2011-08-07 Thread Kiwinote
Hi! Thanks for your bug report. The bug you describe has been fixed in
more recent versions of software-center. Furthermore, I notice that you
are still using Ubuntu 9.10 which is no longer supported - you may be
interested in upgrading to a long term support Ubuntu 10.04, or a more
recent Ubuntu 11.10. Please continue to report any bugs you may find in
software-center. Thanks again for your help!

Re: [Bug 779932] Re: wireless usb DWL-G122 (rev.E) not working with rt2800usb

2011-08-07 Thread assaf
I think the first test was incorrect because I used the sta driver and the
unload command (wluload) did not remove it so I got both driver working
which means it's useless.

I didn't find anything unusual in the logs and yes I was testing it with
standard power saving on.

when running 1000 pings this parameters to my router, I get:

sudo ping -q -i 0.005 -s 1000 -c 1000 192.168.1.1
PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 1000(1028) bytes of data.

[Bug 802285] Re: PPD-O-MATIC'ally generated driver for Lexmark E120/E120n not working

2011-08-07 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
It looks like the E120 without network only supports PCL6 while the E120n
additionally supports PostScript but only binary via TBCP protocol (Lexmark
calls this Mac only).
I have manually added "*Protocols: TBCP" line to the PPD-O-MATIC generated
Lexmark E120n Foomatic/Postscript (recommended) PPD in attachment. Can you test
whether you can print with this PPD? If it works we can correct it in foomatic
database.

** Attachment added: "Lexmark-E120n-Postscript-tbcp.ppd"

[Bug 822304] [NEW] nbd-client doesn't stop on reboot or halt

2011-08-07 Thread Schöner , Axel
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu Natty (Ubuntu 11.04) 32+64 Bit
Affected versions: 1:2.9.16-7.1ubuntu2 1:2.9.23-3ubuntu1 perhaps some others.

When rebooting or shutdown a system with nbd-client active, then the clients
doesn't close the connection properly to the server -> postrun can not be used.
Server-log shows entries like this: "Read failed: Inappropriate ioctl for
device", "Child exited with 1".
By manual disconnect the share (nbd-client -d share) there is no problem.

The problem is, that in /etc/rc0.d and /etc/rc6.d are faulty links:
"S34nbd-client -> ../init.d/nbd-client".
The correct links should look like this: "K59nbd-client ->
../init.d/nbd-client".

The solution is very easy:
"update-rc.d -f nbd-client remove"
"update-rc.d nbd-client start 41 S . stop 59 0 6 ."

The package-maintainer should correct it.

[Bug 822311] [NEW] bluetooth-applet does not store DUN connection information correctly

2011-08-07 Thread Загорія Сергій
Public bug reported:

If I add my phone by selecting "Add new device" in bluetooth-applet, it does
not connect to DUN with "Connection refused (111)" error in the bluetoothd log
and with "Connection refused - security block" in hcidump output.
I succeded connecting only after killing bluetooth-applet (!) and setting up
DUN in gnome-control-center bluetooth settings (which was inactive despite
setting it up in bluetooth-applet dialog).
And now there are two "Life Standard" connections in nm-applet, only one of
which is working. Will try to find the difference between them.

[Bug 822314] [NEW] avahi ssh browser fails to launch more than once without existing terminal open

2011-08-07 Thread Tobias Quinn
Public bug reported:

Use Oneiric alpha 3 with avahi-ui-utils installed and unity desktop.

Make sure no terminals are open. Launch 'Avahi SSH Server Browser',
select a server (terminal window will open). Then attempt to click the
server browser icon again and nothing happens. If the same process is
repeated with an existing (local) terminal open, the terminal captures
the open window allowing the ssh browser to be launched twice.

Re: [Bug 783155] Re: Natty: Loader chooses 64-bit instead of 32-bit library

2011-08-07 Thread Peter Funk
Hello,

> Same problem for me with the 32bit game installer that use Gtk.
> My ugly fix was to temporarily link /usr/lib to lib32 :-(

There is one thing I never understood:

The 64-Bit Debian and Ubuntu distribution flavors store
64-Bit libraries in /lib, /usr/lib ... and 32-Bit
libraries in /lib, /usr/lib32 ...

However the SuSE Linux (now Novell) 64-Bit Linux distros stores the
64-Bit libraries underneath /lib64, /usr/lib64, ... and keep 32-Bit
libraries under the default paths /lib, /usr/lib ...

see:
 +--- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64):
 | $ uname -m
 | x86_64
 | $ file /lib/libc-2.11.1.so
 | /lib/libc-2.11.1.so: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1
(SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.4, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped
 | $ file /lib64/libc-2.11.1.so
 | /lib64/libc-2.11.1.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1
(SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.4, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

In my experience within the SuSE community there are lot less
complaints about compatibility problems with x86 legacy applications.

What is the reason for this difference between 64-Bit Linux
distributions?

Best Regards, Peter.

Hi Till,

I wouldn't mind doing that, but I'm afraid that it's possible that within the
constraints of Debian DFSG none of those profiles can be moved from non-free
to main. It is necessary to do a review of the status of each license and
identify possible candidates for a package in main. I am not sure I have time
for it in the near future, but I will try to get started on it soon.

Cheers,

Alex

[Bug 822315] [NEW] ubuntu-minimal should not use dhcp3-client on server by default

2011-08-07 Thread umoser
Public bug reported:

Servers normally use fixed IP addresses to communicate with them.
Therefore it is useless to install dhcp client in ubuntu server edition.
Trying to deinstall dhcp3-client breaks the module ubuntu-minimal which
is said to also support automatic updates. On the other hand with
dhcp3-client installed the client tries to get an address at startup and
slows down the startup procedure. With multiple virtual servers on a
single machine this significantly slows down server startup of the
server environment.

Suggestion: Remove dhcp3-client from the dependencies for ubuntu server
edition.

System information:

Actually, I am using the radeon driver.

And I just discovered something else : with multiple windows, every
window seems to have the focus. The window decoration is the same for
each window, for example there are no gray buttons for a non-focused

[Bug 822320] [NEW] Sync pperl 0.25-6 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-08-07 Thread Micah Gersten
Public bug reported:

Please sync pperl 0.25-6 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 0.25-5.1build1:

pperl (0.25-6) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Damyan Ivanov ]
  * Take over for the Debian Perl Group on maintainer's request
(http://lists.debian.org/debian-perl/2008/04/msg00070.html)
  * debian/control: Added: Vcs-Git field (source stanza); Vcs-Browser field
(source stanza); Homepage field (source stanza). Changed: Maintainer set
to Debian Perl Group
  * Add myself to Uploaders
  * rapidly trim down debian/rules using DH 8
+ adjust build-dependency and debian/compat accordingly
  * add debian/watch
  * add no-extra-libs.patch, removing unnecessary dyn-linking to perl, m, dl
  * split combined .diff into quilt patches

  [ gregor herrmann ]
  * debian/control: Added: ${misc:Depends} to Depends: field.
  * Integrate patch from Niko Tyni, that was applied in the -5.1 NMU, as a
separate patch.
  * Include NMU changelog entry.
  * Update the test part of 287119_no-umask0.patch: don't check for mode 664
but test explicitly that the files are not world-writable. Otherwise the
test fails with umask 0002 and only works with 0022 (closes: #608157).
  * Improve short and long description.

  [ Nathan Handler ]
  * debian/watch: Update to ignore development releases.

  [ Dominic Hargreaves ]
  * Switch to dpkg-source 3.0 (quilt) format
  * Split spelling fixes into spelling.patch
  * Merge patch pass_PPERL_TMP_PATH and unclean-name-checks into
safe-socket-path, as they are related

  [ Damyan Ivanov ]
  * build with PPERL_TMP_DIR set to a temporary directory created with mktemp.
This guarantees sufficiently short socket paths and therefore
Closes: #539028
  * Claim conformance with Policy 3.9.2
  * Describe all patches
  * convert debian/copyright to machine-readable format
  * drop version (5.8.4-2.2) from perl build-dependency

Everytime I go to check for software updates via the "Updates available"
tab in the top right corner menu there ends up not being any. It is
vice-versa when it says "software up to date": there ends up being

relation to availability of updates, or it is that program not keeping
up to date with update manager.

[Bug 822335] [NEW] unreliable host names

Public bug reported:

Hi,

avahi-daemon should usually announce the hostname on the network as

[Bug 674138] Re: "Global" appmenu breaks sloppy focus

2011-08-07 Thread scotte
This truly is something worth fixing, and I'm rather surprised to see it
discounted as a non-issue and a "wont fix" resolution. It sure seems to
me this is something that can be solved in such a way that everyone is
happy and without requiring global menus be disabled (though even then
it doesn't work right - for example if the mouse is at the edge of two
adjacent windows, the mouse pointer will gets confused. For terminal
windows, this often means you cannot select text starting at the first
column).

Please fix this, thank you!

[Bug 794503] Re: No HDMI Video with Optimus Intel i915

2011-08-07 Thread madbiologist
I'm not sure if this is actually an Optimus related bug, but:

Thanks to Rocko (rockorequin) in bug #700646

"This will give you nvidia optimus support in Linux:
https://github.com/MrMEEE/bumblebee

ie do something like:

mkdir ~/src
cd ~/src
git clone https://github.com/MrMEEE/bumblebee.git
cd bumblebee
sudo ./install.sh

Note that you can uninstall it if you want via the ~/src/bumblebee
/install-files/bumblebee-uninstall script.

bumblebee uses the Intel card for normal graphics and VirtualGL to use
the nvidia card if you run the application preceding it with optirun64
(or optirun32 for 32 bit applications like wine). It works great on my
i7 + 540M!"

More information about the bumblebee (prime-ng 2.0) for Optimus that Rocko
described above can be found at
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTQxNg
An alternative approach for some Optimus laptops was also added to the Linux
3.0 kernel which will be used by the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" -
see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTQzMA for further
details (this article refers to the 2.6.40 kernel but it was decided to rename
this kernel to 3.0).

Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" alpha 3 was released on August 4th 2011 if
you want to test it before it's final release on October 13th 2011 - see

[Bug 770685] Re: there is no optimus support in linux

2011-08-07 Thread madbiologist
An alternative approach for some Optimus laptops was added to the Linux
3.0 kernel which will be used by the upcoming Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric
Ocelot" - see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=OTQzMA
for further details (this article refers to the 2.6.40 kernel but it was
decided to rename this kernel to 3.0).

Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" alpha 3 was released on August 4th 2011 if
you want to test it before it's final release on October 13th 2011 - see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricReleaseSchedule

[Bug 756714] Re: indicator-datetime-preferences doesn't work without evolution

2011-08-07 Thread Rob
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 751175 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751175

i have the same issue: when attempted to run from GUI, Evolution comes
up and wants to get set up.

when run from terminal:
"(indicator-datetime-preferences:2808): Unique-DBus-WARNING **: Error while
sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the
reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."
among processes i found 2 instances of indicator-datetime-preferences running
(sleeping) so i killed them both and saw that it started on it's own, but then
it worked from GUI (time&date indicator), for me.

32bit platform
