[Bug 742544] Re: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups

2011-07-08 Thread Christoph Buchner
Set, how does the monitor.xml have to look like? I don't have it on my
system.

I use disper for switching, and I have the same problem as Bart (comment
#16) - I would like to keep my launcher on my primary, right screen, for
similar reasons (bug #806909), so I'd argue that there's use cases for
that configuration, too.

Does that only affect upgrades to lucid? Or from lucid onwards as well?
In the latter case, this needs to be fixed in oneiric as well.

[Bug 807369] [NEW] unable to change volume in sound menu

2011-07-08 Thread GodNobody
Public bug reported:

Since this week I'm unable to change the volume over the sound menu in
the unity panel.

If i press the control it mutes and if I press it again in goes to full
volume.

The only way to change it by know is to go to "Sound Settings" and
change it there.

BTW I'm also unable to use the FN-Keys to change the volume, it just
doesn't do anything.

Thanks!

[Bug 522998] Re: XHCI (USB 3.0) kernel Module Prevents Suspend

2011-07-08 Thread Dale Lukas Peterson
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad W510, and the following works flawlessly for
me:

1)  As root/sudo, create /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd with the
following contents:

#!/bin/sh
# File: "/etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd".
TMPLIST=/tmp/xhci-dev-list

case "${1}" in
hibernate|suspend)
echo -n '' > $TMPLIST
  for i in `ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/ | egrep
'[0-9a-z]+\:[0-9a-z]+\:.*$'`; do
  # Unbind xhci_hcd for first device :XX:XX.X:
   echo -n "$i" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/unbind
   echo "$i" >> $TMPLIST
  done
;;
resume|thaw)
for i in `cat $TMPLIST`; do
  # Bind xhci_hcd for first device :XX:XX.X:
  echo -n "$i" | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/xhci_hcd/bind
done
rm $TMPLIST
;;
esac

2) sudo chmod 755 /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_custom-xhci_hcd

I didn't need to create the /etc/pm/sleep.d/05_xhci file as suggested by
@Gabou, nor did I need to do anything with /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-
xhci_hcd.conf or /etc/pm/config.d/unload_module, as suggested by
@Martin. In fact, these three files don't exist on my machine.

For other laptops that have ehci_hcd devices which cause suspend
problems, I think this script will work by simply replacing xhci_hcd
with ehci_hcd, although this isn't directly relevant to this bug report.

This works even with two usb devices plugged into the ports when I
suspend and then resume -- the devices work and don't need to be plugged
in or out.

Correction: The dialogs are created modally, but they are apparently
modal without a parent. So can still get lost behind other windows.

Anyway, the fix was trivial. See Related branches...

[Bug 773524] Re: [Toshiba Tecra R850] SD card reader doesn't work

2011-07-08 Thread Giuseppe Paterno'
I don't have access to a Lenovo x220 or tecra R850 myself, so I would really
appreciate if you can try with this module:
http://www.gpaterno.com/external/sdhci_pci_patch.tar

it's a recompiled version of sdhci-pci.ko for 2.6.38 ***32 BIT ONLY***
(i.e. i686, no 64-bit)

so remove it first with rmmod sdhci-pci and then insmod sdhci-pci.ko
try also to search in dmesg for "Ricoh E823 MMC detected"
If it is working, I will post the patch for sdhci-pci.c

Thank you.

But it worked in 9.04 and if I remember right 9.10 also. 10.04 was the

worked before.

Am 08.07.2011 07:56 schrieb "Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre" :

Ah, unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to match 3G modem to
particular connections yet (including because you technically could use
the same stick with multiple connections).

My suggestion would be to try something though: verify what the network
ID might be when you connect (which you should be able to tell from the
modem logs (the number in the +COPS command), from information on the
internet (http://wiki.sakis3g.org/wiki/index.php?title=Known_operators)
or elsewhere. For instance, 23210 appears to be the ID for Drei; and
23203 would be the one for T-Mobile. You may want to try those in the
Network ID field in the connection's configuration dialog, but it's not
exactly what it's meant for (e.g. the connection will still try to
activate, fail, etc.). This behaviour makes sense considering some
people may genuinely want to connect one modem to an arbitrary number of
connections to different providers, possibly roaming.

[Bug 806325] Re: package doc-base 0.9.5ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess script post-installation installé was killed by signal (Processus arrêté)

2011-07-08 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-07-08 Thread CyJambo
Hi All,

http://www.alsa-project.org is dead, I can't reach it for the past two
days. Since the last package didn't fix it for me I would like to try
the solution suggested in post 33:

-
The loud speakers of my 5830TG are working thanks to the HDAAnalyzer tool :
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/HDA_Analyzer
Once the tool is installed, the option EAPD in Node[0x1b] must be enabled.

You will find more information (diff for the working internal
speakers/headphones) in this Alsa bug tracker message :
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=5366 .
-

Does anyone have an idea where to get the HDAAnalyzer tool from other
than the link above?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, that would make sense. However the version of pre-removal script
that gets run is the one that is being removed, which is the old broken
one. Seems to be the way debian packages work, always.

Description: After a different user (with a different appearance

theme was with ugly icons and menu backgrounds and unity panel.

Workaround:
killall gnome-settings-demon

[Bug 807128] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGABRT in raise()

2011-07-08 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

You might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

I don't see a workaround mentioned in this report yet so for those of

Simply remove and re-add your twitter account to get rid of the error
message.

Hi Ilija,

Did you ever make the link stick for a long time again? I get the same
thing as Otus which is it sticks for 10-15 seconds and then hides again.

Thanks,

[Bug 807396] [NEW] gcc-4.5 is uninstallable in oneiric

2011-07-08 Thread Chris Coulson
Public bug reported:

It's no longer possible to install gcc-4.5 in oneiric since the last

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

It seems that libgcc1 4.6.1-2ubuntu2 added a "Breaks: gcc-4.4 (<<

[Bug 807394] [NEW] Inconsistent ellipsis sizes in indicator-session menu

2011-07-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

See the attached screenshot. You can see the first ellipsis is shorter
than the other three.

Looking at the source code, this appears to be because "Switch From"
uses three dots, while the other three menu options use the actual
ellipsis unicode (UTF-8) character, which is slightly wider than three
dots in the Ubuntu font.

I would say the right solution is to use the ellipsis character
("\342\200\246") everywhere, but the translations all seem to use three
dots "..." instead.

[Bug 807156] Re: GCC (g++):internal compiler error: in extract_insn, at recog.c:2104

2011-07-08 Thread Jeffrey Walton
It looks like removing `-mtune=native` fixed it:

$cat GNUMakefile
...
ifneq ($(GCC42_OR_LATER),0)
ifeq ($(UNAME),Darwin)
CXXFLAGS += -arch x86_64 -arch i386
else
# CXXFLAGS += -march=native
endif
endif
...

$ make
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c 3way.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c adler32.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c algebra.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c algparam.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c arc4.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c asn.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c authenc.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c base32.cpp
g++ -DNDEBUG -g -O2 -pipe -c base64.cpp
...
