[Bug 799058] [NEW] Realtek ALC269VB internal mic only records a high-pitched whine

2011-06-18 Thread Adam Monsen
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure if this is in alsa-driver, I think I'm using pulseaudio.

I don't hear anything I'm actually trying to record, just a loud high-
pitched whine / squeal. Same result with arecord, Skype, gnome-sound-
recorder, and "ubuntu-bug audio".

[Bug 799058] Re: Realtek ALC269VB internal mic only records a high-pitched whine

2011-06-18 Thread Adam Monsen
** Description changed:

I'm not sure if this is in alsa-driver, I think I'm using pulseaudio.
+ Also, I'm not sure why this shows up as "Realtek"... I think it's Intel
+ HD Audio or something.

I don't hear anything I'm actually trying to record, just a loud high-
pitched whine / squeal. Same result with arecord, Skype, gnome-sound-
  recorder, and "ubuntu-bug audio".
+
+ Sound playback works fine using the built-in speakers.
+
+ Using a USB Headset, sound recording (and playback) works fine.

[Bug 798970] Re: Install Sabily 11.04

2011-06-18 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 129482] Re: easytag is very very slow

2011-06-18 Thread zasran
In addition to what other said the list of files keeps updating even
when just going from file to file (pg-up/pg-down), it takes forever to
just go from file to file. The width of various columns number of times
everytime I press pg-up or pg-down. This might depend on width of
various elements (i.e. not sure if it happens always).

My report of this bug came from when I was using 11.04 Beta. This has
not occurred to me in the full release but, if it helps, the full
release is a dual-boot installation and upgraded from 10.10 whereas the
beta release was an upgrade of a WUBI install.

[Bug 692002] Re: gmote server (gmote.org) crashes when Android client tries to play a media file over wireless lan

2011-06-18 Thread warl0q
"...gmote uses libvlc's libvlc_media_new() hook function in order to
play a video or whatever, which, in the version of the vlc bundled
with the ubuntu (1.1.4), has been changed to
libvlc_media_new_location()"

It looks like JVLC (which GMote uses) is dead, and VLCJ is instead the
preferred Java binding (see ).
So maybe GMote needs an overhaul?

Possible work around:

Downgrade VLC to 1.0.6. No significant functionality is lost by doing this.
Unfortunately, the downgrade process is not as simple as you might think.
Just remove any current installation of VLC, and then re-install using the
directions at the following link, post #8.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10022290

This is only a temporary fix of course. Hopefully, someone will
figure out a way to make gmote-server work properly with the latest
versions of VLC.

[Bug 799069] [NEW] xf86OpenConsole: setpgid failed

2011-06-18 Thread dino99
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lightdm

Oneiric i386 on nvidia (xorg-edgers)

got logged into xorg.log:

xf86OpenConsole: setpgid failed: Operation not permitted
xf86OpenConsole: setsid failed: Operation not permitted

i've found similar issue reported but against xdm/slim/wdm: Bug #585853
#19 post seems to point the real problem:
- This appears to be caused by the lightdm package not integrating with upstart.
- The plymouth process which holds the console open is waiting for a signal
that the lightdm job is starting up, so that it can let go of the console; but
the lightdm package doesn't have an upstart job, so there's no signal sent,
which means the plymouth and lightdm processes are fighting over the console.

Note: need to check that the above comments are correct

[Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-06-18 Thread Tristan B
I have the same problem with my new acer 5735z.
As soon as it comes to the grub screen my laptop display turns black.
If I use an external monitor I am able to boot into ubuntu and add the
"setpci"-script to the sleep.d and rc.local files. But as soon as I i.e. change
display settings the screen gets black again. The same for the grub menue
at startup.

[Bug 798376] Re: package flashplugin-installer 10.3.181.26ubuntu0.11.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-06-18 Thread Zentai Andras
Hi, I experienced the same on Natty 64 bit and on Maverick 64 bit systems.
Reinstalling flashplugin-installer package using Synaptic package manager
solved the problem on Natty.
(I do not have access to my Maverick PC, I will try this solution on Monday.)

[Bug 799072] [NEW] Accessing SFTP over "Connect to Server..." asks for password 3 times after connection and when changing directories

2011-06-18 Thread Beetroot Dog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When connecting to a server using "Connect to Server..." in Nautilus,
you are first prompted for a password ("Enter password for SSH as
on ") with three options: Forget password
immediately/Remember password until you logout/Remember forever.

Having correctly entered the password, you are prompted again for the
password 3 times in a simpler prompt ("@'s
password:"). However, it doesn't matter what you type in here, it will
still enable you to login. Also, once logged in, every time you change
directories you are asked for the password 3 times but you can type
anything or simply press Esc 3 times and you get to change directories.
Not only is this annoying when navigating directories, it is a bit
disturbing that a password prompt appears that doesn't care what you
enter.

Note that the options for remembering the password in the first password
prompt does not have any bearing on the issue: it happens regardless of
which one you choose.

The issue also occurs when you connect through Alt-F2 and type in
sftp://@ .
However, the issue does not occur when connecting through Dolphin or Konqueror.

Confirmed when connecting to servers running openssh on Ubuntu Server
Editions 10.04 and 11.04.

I have enabled "LogLevel DEBUG" in /etc/ssh/sshd_config and attached the
output in /var/log/auth.log for connecting using Nautilus and also
through KDE's Dolphin. Based on this, at face it appears that when
connecting through Nautilus, sshd accepts the initial credentials, then
invokes the sftp subsystem. At this point, it seems Nautilus does not
supply credentials whereas Dolphin does. Although since a valid password
does not even need to be entered, it would seem that sshd's initial
acceptance of the credentials overrides what the sftp subsystem
requested.

Connecting client release: Ubuntu 11.04 (Desktop 32bit)
Issue relates to: /usr/bin/nautilus-connect-server
Nautilus version: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)

[Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-06-18 Thread Tristan B
The problem seems to be solved for me after performing the following
steps which are a combination of littleendians solution and a post from
unknown47 in this forum entry:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1743301.

1. Goto edit-mode in grub and add "acpi_osi=Linux" to the line that says "...
quiet splash ..."
2. Now you can boot into ubuntu. To make this grub change persistent
edit the /etc/default/grub. Change the "GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT" line into
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT = "quiet splash acpi_osi = Linux"
3. Execute sudo update-grub2
4. Add "setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00" to /etc/rc.local and to the scripts in
/etc/pm/sleep.d. Added this line always at the beginning of the scripts.
5. Reboot and everything should be fine so far

[Bug 799084] [NEW] Keyring PIN not used directly after login

2011-06-18 Thread tobyS
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have an internal Ericsson UMTS device. Network-manager stores the PIN
for my Vodafone connection perfectly, but does not use it right after I
login. This results in a PIN enter request on each login.

If I then cancel the PIN entering, network-manager disables mobile
broadband as expected. When I re-enable it through the applet /
indicator, network-manager takes the PIN from the keyring and does not
ask for it.

[Bug 799089] [NEW] Natty extremely slows down using dual monitor, previous versions were all ok

2011-06-18 Thread Jabal 33
Public bug reported:

Sometimes I use my laptop with two displays. Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 were
good, however monitors were not detected when plugged in, I had to open
the config window manualy. Today was the first time I tried dual display
with 11.04, using the Classic Desktop. Autodetection was OK, but the
whole gui is extremely buggy. Icons only show up on the other monitor if
I move the mouse over them and everything gets extremely slow. I saw
many display errors: broken window shades, reduced color depth, etc. (I
was very sorry to see that the new Natty version stepped backward in
this field, this is the 5th serious issue I had with it.)

[Bug 743323] Re: vlc memory leak

2011-06-18 Thread Tim Kornhammar
I downgraded since the memory leak does not affect that much if you do
not leave the video on longer than needed. Audio is half of the show
when watching series and movies.

It shouldn't be to hard to see where this patch affects the audio?

[Bug 798509] Re: pressing 2 or Enter terminates X server on live CD

2011-06-18 Thread Eliah Kagan
I have found that, once Ubuntu is installed (with Ubiquity), even in the
same login session in which it was installed (after clicking Continue
Testing), pressing 2 or Enter no longer terminates the X server. The
test system was the 20110617 daily-live on the virtual machine.

So I reset the virtual machine to its pre-installation state, cloned it
to create a control, and installed Oneiric on it again while running the
control, so I could examine log files from both systems side by side.
Specifically, I booted both systems (selecting "Try Ubuntu without
installing" from the nongraphical boot menus) and logged on with unity-
2d sessions, disabled screensaver screen locking, set their screen
resolutions down from 1024x768 to 800x600, installed openssh-server (and
set passwords for the live session user), and then monitored
/var/log/Xorg.0.log and /home/ubuntu/.xsession-errors on both systems
via tail -f in nongraphical SSH sessions. I launched Ubiquity and
installed Ubuntu on the first machine (the experimental), and left the
other (the control) alone for comparison. After installation, I pressed
the alphanumeric 2 key in each machine; as expected, the experimental
machine's X server was not terminated, but the control machine's X
server was.

I did not notice any differences in the .xsession-errors files that
appeared noteworthy, but there were additional XKB (X keyboard
extension) messages in the experimental Xorg.0.log that appeared while
Ubiquity was running, and did not appear at all in the control
Xorg.0.log.

This was the output of tail -f on the experimental Xorg.0.log (running
Ubiquity):

Most of the differences are due to the messages that appeared on the
control when I pressed 2 and the X server was terminated. However, these
messages appeared in the experimental Xorg.0.log without corresponding
messages in the control Xorg.0.log:

I don't know if this is significant or not, but since this bug seems to
be in the way the X server handles keyboard input, and Ubiquity "fixes"
the problem and also performs additional keyma

[Bug 273558] Re: /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0 missing from Intrepid

2011-06-18 Thread Ákos Maróy
yeah, it's a standoff: app developers refuse to link to the new shared
object name, as the ABI didn't change. the distro makers refuse to
maintain the old name. thus it's us, the users, how are left to do the
symlinking manually :(
