It is looks like true that the bag connected with bug 796336. The
simplest workaround from bug 796336 ( mv
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode
/lib/firmware/iwlwifi-5000-5.ucode.off ) solved my problem.

Yes. I had a problem with this chipset. My connection disconnects
randomly and I had a lot of problems.

As it is said here:

I've compiled de compat-wireless driver and all works like a charm.

[Bug 769669] Re: Installer should not format an existing EFI SYSTEM PARTITION and should use FAT32 instead of FAT16 as the FS

2011-06-17 Thread Keshav
It seems like Windows Vista x64 is ok with FAT16 in EFISYS but Windows 7
x64 setup uses FAT32 alone. I don't know whether this FAT32 requirement
for non-removable disk EFISYS is in UEFI 2.3 spec only or whether it was
the case in previous spec versions as well.

[Bug 798545] [NEW] raise/lower window turns window white since last update

2011-06-17 Thread sordna
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I have assigned raise/lower windows in the general settings to some extra
buttons in my mouse.
Since the last update (to version 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty1) whenever
I raise (or lower) a window, the entire window (except the decorator) becomes
white. It happens with terminal windows, browser, whatever. I have to drag the
window a little bit to make the window contents visible again. I am using XFCE,
compiz, and emerald on a 64-bit natty installation.

[Bug 793875] Re: new item in launch bar has no icon

2011-06-17 Thread Graeme Geldenhuys
I'm now using Unity 3.8.12-0ubuntu. I keep installing all new updates,
so I don't know what version of Unity I had at the time I created the
bug report. Since the bug report I have also installed the AMD ATI
Catalyst drivers, so not sure if that helped the issue Anyway, I
just tried and now I too can't reproduce the bug. So maybe this bug
report can be closed for now. I guess some or other update must have
fixed the problem.

Many thanks
This is an old bug. I have since moved on to 11.04 on most machines.
The only issue I get associated with updates on all machines is
language. I delete Eng-US and use Eng-GB and ITALIAN-IT. I find most
updates fail... Otherwise it seems to work.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure can be caused by filesystem or memory corruption.
So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. If
this does resolve your bug please set its status to Invalid. Thanks in
advance!

  * Merge from Debian unstable; remaining changes:
- Merge from git://git.debian.org/users/hertzog/dpkg.git
  pu/multiarch/snapshot/20110314 for multiarch support.
- On upgrade from 1.16.0~ubuntu[1-3], if /var/lib/dpkg/info/$arch is a
directory, migrate the contents to var/lib/dpkg/info; and handle the
reverse on downgrade. This does not handle metadata for packages of
  foreign architectures.
  * Restores support for parsing priority fields with unknown values.

[Bug 746048] Re: package oss4-dkms 4.2-build2003-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: oss4 kernel module failed to build

2011-06-17 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

- Actually it looks like oss4-dkms could never, and has never, installed
- successfully in natty.
+ IMPACT:

- Steps to reproduce the bug:
- sudo apt-get install oss4-dkms
+ oss4-dkms 4.2-build2003-1ubuntu1 does not install successfully in Ubuntu
11.04. It appears it has never been able to with the natty kernel, because of
this change to fs.h:
+
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-2.6.36.y.git;a=commitdiff;h=b19dd42faf413b4705d4adb38521e82d73fa4249

- Optionally, to verify you're getting the same build failure:
- sudo make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build
SUBDIRS=/var/lib/dkms/oss4/4.2-build2003/build/core modules
+ FIX:
+
+ Used the patch from upstream:
+
http://opensound.hg.sourceforge.net/hgweb/opensound/opensound/rev/c63e54ba4988
+ which is already in oneiric (via v4.2-build2004).
+ The fix simply omits structure fields that no longer exist in kernel 2.6.36
and later.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+
+ 1. sudo apt-get install oss4-dkms
+ 2. Terminal output shows an error:
+ Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel: 2.6.38-8-generic (x86_64)
+ Consult the make.log in the build directory
+ /var/lib/dkms/oss4/4.2-build2003/build/ for more information.
+ * Unloading Open Sound System kernel modules: [ OK
]
+ * Starting Open Sound System:
[fail]
+
+ REGRESSION POTENTIAL:
+
+ Minimal. It really can't be worse than never having worked at all in
+ natty.

[Bug 796591] Re: language pack creation for Bemba

2011-06-17 Thread Martin Pitt
I updated langpack-o-matic's maps to the current data from oneiric and
the new langpack-locales, so it now knows about Bemba as well. That
means, as soon as any Ubuntu package or Launchpad export any bem_ZM po
files, a language-pack-bem will be created.

[Bug 798229] Re: Lubuntu 11.10 does not print

2011-06-17 Thread Filip Dominec
@Till: I know the printer is not a pride of modern printing, but in
Ubuntu 10.10 it worked fast with text pages (~5 seconds instead of ~5
minutes).

Therefore, the bug is not resolved yet. My aim is to make Lubuntu 1) add
the printer automatically and 2) print fast as Ubuntu did.

The first objective is resolved by including hplip in the Lubuntu CD. I
would be happy to read further advices.

Still the reports here seem to indicate that apport tries to check for
non-ubuntu kernels and fails (i.e. always things you're running a non-

We have two changes in this package:
- - support for lpia which we do no longer need
- - patch by Kees to drop executable stack that was taken by upstream

So we can sync the package again.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

The ubuntu and debian packages build from a unified source now.

[Bug 774944] Re: totem unable to add multiple files to playlist

2011-06-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

It's not obvious from your bug report how you are adding new tracks to
the playlist. If I had to guess I'd say it was by dragging tracks from
the file manager onto the Totem icon on the launcher (because thats the
only way I can reproduce the behavior you describe). If this is the case
please reply and change the bug status to 'New'. In the meantime I'll
set it to Incomplete until I can be sure we're talking about the same
bug.

Thanks,

[Bug 765606] Re: [STAGING] rt2800usb loads before correct driver rt2870sta [was: rt2x00 won't connect to network]

2011-06-17 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
Hi Mikael,
glad to hear that the staging driver rt2870sta works for you. In order
to make this work out of the box in Oneiric we however have to find
out why it does not work with the rt2800usb driver. rt2870sta has been
deleted from the staging directory in kernel 3.0 and will not ship
with Oneiric.

Could you please test whether rt2800usb is already fixed with the
latest firmware and drivers:

Install the new firmware for rt2800usb that has just been accepted
into natty-proposed in package linux-firmware - 1.52.1. Activate
natty-proposed, update and check whether you really got the new 1.52.1
version. It will take a few hours for the new package to become
available so you might have to wait a little.

Install the latest release candidate of the mainline kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.0-rc3-oneiric/ .

Blacklist rt2860sta, shut down, boot the new kernel and test.

Thanks

[Bug 798492] Re: oss4-dkms produces empty build logs

2011-06-17 Thread Michal Suchanek
The problem I am experiencing is that dkms build logs are empty.

I know why oss4 fails to build and found two reasons for it to fail, and
since the build command is printed it is possible to run it outside of
dkms and see the errors.

Still they are not in the dkms log which is then useless.

[Bug 713478] Re: ExpressCard compact flash card fails to hotplug

Similar problem here - with a Creative X-fi ExpressCard audio card. Works if

Is there at least a command to make the laptop see this card if I insert it

[Bug 755842] Re: Non-maximized windows which sit on the border of a workspace move when called

2011-06-17 Thread tankdriver
I think this bug causes a strange behaviour of the launcher too:
- Do the steps to reproduce this bug (or work for some time with unity and
mulitple programs ;-) ).
- Go to a workspace (which seems to be) without any open program windows.
--> The launcher hides for no noticeable reason.
Consequences: You think its an inconsistent behaviour of autohiding in the
launcher. --> annoying.
Explanation: Due to the default 2x2 alignment of Workspaces in Unity, with this
"wrap around feature" (I don't know the right name, but its the "when window
overlaps the right border of the most right workspace, it appears on the left"
thing) A window can "move" some pixels , from the left side coming, under the
Launcher and it does autohide.

[Bug 798229] Re: Lubuntu 11.10 does not print

2011-06-17 Thread Till Kamppeter
For Ubuntu and Lubuntu you can ignore this message about the device ID.
system-config-printer has enough fuzzy matching to cope with that. You
only need to take care that the default printer tool is system-config-
printer and not the tool built into GNOME 3. In Ubuntu we will hide this
new tool and put an icon calling system-config-printer into its place.
Take care to overtake this from us.

You should report a bug about this to HPLIP upstream, via
https://launchpad.net/hplip/.

For the speed problem please run "top" in a terminal window while doing
a print job. Observe which processes, especially with the owners "lp"
and "root" take up memory and CPU during the time between submission and
completion. Post your results here.

During the last years several performance problems were found and fixed.
Especially the Ghostscript version 9.03 which is currently under
development and will get released in August has important fixes. Perhaps
you should try a GIT snapshot of it in the course of your distro
development and report your experience here.

Please sync myspell-hr 20060617-2.1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Our delta is that we add a dependency to "language-support-writing-hr".
This is no longer needed as we move away from that and its also
inconsistent with the other hyphen-$lang packages.

Cheers,
 Michael

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 20060617-2ubuntu1:

myspell-hr (20060617-2.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * post{inst,rm}.in: Remove, only unconditionally called
useless and soon to not be shipped update-openoffice-dicts.
Change debian/rules for this (Closes: #619278).
  * Remove obsolete old location and mozilla symlinks (Closes: #566817).
  * No longer install obsolete myspell amd thesaurus info files.
  * Rename hyphenation package to hyphen-hr (Closes: #617568).

You are welcome. For the future it would make more sense to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs. There is also a very vivid ubuntu support community at
http://askubuntu.com/ . But please continue to report any other bugs you
may find.

[Bug 798569] [NEW] Sync pyinotify 0.9.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-06-17 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Please sync pyinotify 0.9.1-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

All our changes are now part of the new upstream release.

We have three patches in our package, two direct cherry picks
from the upstream source repository and one that got fixed
in a slightly different way by the upstream, different error
string when it fails to init but the same information (errno
and os.strerror).

Cheers,
 Michael

Changelog entries since current oneiric version 0.8.9-1ubuntu3:

pyinotify (0.9.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
- debian/control: Update list of documentation installed.
  * debian/control: Update my e-mail address.
  * Upstream moved to another site:
- debian/control: Update homepage.
- debian/watch: Update download location.
  * debian/source/format: Update source format to 3.0 (quilt).
  * debian/control, debian/rules: Use dh(1).
  * debian/control: Update Standards-Version to 3.9.1, no changes required.
  * debian/control: Drop conflict with python2.[34]-pyinotify which are no
longer in oldstable.

[Bug 778620] Re: Brother HL-2070N do not work with Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-17 Thread Till Kamppeter
First of all, this is the typical behavior if a PostScript driver is
used on a PCL-only printer. So at first I want to know whether in your
old environment (10.10 or earlier) you were actually using a PostScript
driver or whether the system chose a PCL driver automatically.

It seems that something got messed up with automatic driver selection
and some printers where PostScript is only available as add-on are
considered PostScript printers.

[Bug 794895] Re: Xorg crashes in doListFontsAndAliases

2011-06-17 Thread iFred
Well, strict answer is no, because there is only a workaround (not quite
obvious to regular user) but there is no patch that actually fixes this bug.
On the other hand it seems, that people on freedesktop.org bugzilla actually
treat this bug as won't-fix.
But preventing nVidia config tool (and maybe other tools) from writing FontPath
"unix/:7100" to xorg.conf could also be threated as a "fix" for this bug.

in libjpeg. Therefore I have added a libjpeg62 task.

[Bug 301958] Re: [needs-packaging] no working driver for sis 671/771 video cards

2011-06-17 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
Hello, Jay

Check that you installed the right driver for your architecture (32 or
64 bit) and that you have copied a fresh xorg.conf as the one in my
pages. The code for the drivers in 10.04 is slightly different from the
one I use now, but what you describe seems to point to some oddity in
xorg.conf. I can compile the current code in 10.04 as well, so you can
give it a try, but I need to know the architecture.

Cheers

Antonio
