[Bug 642996] Re: Maverick beta: suspend only works once after boot on Thinkpad T60

2011-03-30 Thread Eric Firing
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected kernel-power natty resume running-unity
suspend

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: linux-image

  Description: Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
  Release: 10.10
  linux-image-2.6.35-21-generic
  64-bit

suspend worked perfectly on Lucid; after upgrading to Maverick it works once
after booting, but fails on subsequent attempts. The suspend process begins
and then switches over to resume. In the attached /var/log/messages, the
suspend/resume tagged mostly as Sep 19 07:43:04 was successful; the one tagged
Sep 19 07:43:34 aborted and went into resume. One difference in the latter is

[Bug 642996] Re: Maverick beta: suspend only works once after boot on Thinkpad T60

2011-03-30 Thread Eric Firing
Running Natty alpha3 live DVD, I see the same behavior: suspend/resume
works once, but on the second suspend it immediately resumes.

With my Maverick installation, I tried upstream kernels

linux-image-2.6.35-02063511-generic_2.6.35-02063511.201102070905_amd64.deb
linux-image-2.6.38-02063802-generic_2.6.38-02063802.201103281246_amd64.deb

and found exactly the same behavior.

[Bug 745503] [NEW] Cannot play Audio CD

2011-03-30 Thread Łukasz Jernaś
Public bug reported:

Banshee doesn't seem to notice the Audio CD I have inserted, although it

[Bug 745502] [NEW] Netbook Remix, Can't Switch Users

2011-03-30 Thread Jmadero
Public bug reported:

Problem: Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04 is unable to fast switch users. If I
click on the indicator applet for power/user switching and click on a
different user, the computer tries to log out, flickers black a few
times and then comes up with a password prompt for the currently logged
in user. The same issue happens if I go to "Switch from USERID", it does
not go to the login screen as expected to select another user, instead
if flicks black and comes up with a password prompt for current user

Expected: I'm not sure if this is a unity issue or some other issue but
the expected outcome would be similar to other releases/desktop
environments. If you click on another user name from the indicator
applet it should come up with a password prompt for that user, leaving
the current user logged in as well. Same goes with if you go to switch
from USERID, this should not log out the current user, only bring up the
GDM screen to login to another user at the same time.

Another note is that I can log out of current user and then log in to
another user, the problem seems to be related to Unity Desktop on Ubuntu
10.04 trying to login to multiple users at the same time without logging
out.

Appreciate the help in advance. thanks!

Maybe due to "the crash" of their hardware on Friday?

[Bug 575319] Re: Music doesn't play correctly in pingus

2011-03-30 Thread Jordy van Heeswijk
IMHO the conversion to OGG should only be used as a work-around, since it makes
the music files unnecessarily large (doesn't it?).
I also think it would be a good idea to report this bug to the SDL developers
if it is really caused by SDL. Do you know where to do that?
Then after that bug is fixed it's probably best to restore the IT files.

A point worth mentioning is that those IT files play fine in an external
player. Any ideas why that could be so?

[Bug 563878] Re: Ubuntu splashscreen big and ugly after installing ATI/nVidia proprietary graphics driver

2011-03-30 Thread Nathaniel Wilson
The real problem here is people who pretend that the greatest thing a
linux distribution can do is immediately embrace new technologies that
are not yet fully supported by vendor drivers, yet continue to harass
users to install vendor drivers right after installing their OS. When
you go even deeper, the real problem is that Ubuntu wants to be at the
forefront of technology, but at the same time has a solid following from
people who expect it to be stable and presentable as a demonstration of
the advantages of Linux above other operating systems. Ubuntu
developers can't keep trying to walk along both of these tightropes;
they have to decide eventually.

Personally I am happy to see Ubuntu keep pushing into new technologies.
In the meantime they can't keep simultaneously pushing themselves as a
leader in new things like wayland (which I couldn't be more excited
about) yet still present themselves as a stable, professional system.
They need to branch out into a "hardcore linux guru" version and a
"window convert" version if they want to keep pursuing these two
completely different career paths.

And gslack, you might want to try reading posts before replying to them.
I've tried and condoned many solutions to the splash screen problem.
I've just taken these posts beyond this simple problem and applied them
to the project as a whole.

Re: [Bug 745279] Re: No Auto update option

2011-03-30 Thread Shaswat Nimesh
I want an auto import option , which will automatically import all the
pictures added to the system(downloaded wallpapers, etc). But it should must
prompt and ask the user that he/she wants to import these recent pictures or
not. This feature will help folks who dint like drag and drop folders every
time.

[Bug 740011] Re: Natty: the driver sp5100_tco prevents PC startup

2011-03-30 Thread malbo
Thanks Herton.
I hope the following can help :
1) start PC (driver sp5100_tco blacklisted)
2) driver sp5100_tco authorized
3) restart PC (no problem, no bug)
Just after restart, I store dmesg (dmesg_819.txt) and dmesg0 (dmesg0_819.txt)
4) restart PC (now the bug exist and I have to unplug the power cord and
reconnect)
Just after restart, I store dmesg (dmesg_833.txt) and dmesg0 (dmesg0_833.txt).

Attached : the kern.log (kernlog_201103300922.txt) with the driver
sp5100_tco authorized at the end of the log

[Bug 744944] Re: kdm is restarted during the upgrade to Natty . The user is disconnected from the session

2011-03-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package eglibc - 2.13-0ubuntu11

---
eglibc (2.13-0ubuntu11) natty; urgency=low

  * debian/rules.d/build.mk: when building 32-bit biarch libraries for
64-bit archs, ship an /etc/ld.so.conf/biarch.conf config snippet adding
/lib32,/usr/lib32 to the path; these are already included in the path
for the biarch build itself, but the biarch ld.so may be Replaced: by
the multiarch libc which does not have built-in support for these
non-standard paths.
  * debian/rules.d/debhelper.mk: the ld.so.conf snippet isn't included in
all of the alternate libc builds, only in libc6-i386 and libc6-powerpc;
so we add this by hand to the dh_install invocation for these packages.
LP: #741949.
  * debian/debhelper.in/libc.preinst: don't restart kdm on upgrade. It may
no longer be required, and in any case the restart will break running
sessions so we want to avoid this for beta1. LP: #744944.

eglibc (2.13-0ubuntu10) natty; urgency=low

  * Provide compatibility symlinks for .o files in /usr/lib. LP: #744908.
  * debian/control.in/libc: Remove the Multi-Arch: same attribute.

2011-03-30 Thread JanG
Public bug reported:

I had thunderbird, firefox and pidgin running and was trying to switch from
firefox to pidgin using the unity bar. Pidgin had its main windows and one
conversation window open.
I clicked on the pidgin icon, everything freezed and after about 10s the screen
blanked out shortly and presented me the normal screen (unity with firefox
running) again, but it was also freezed with the mouse pointer hanging at
another position.
Shortly afterwards the screen again blanked out.
This happend 3 times, until I rebooted the laptop.
Apport offered me 3 times the same kernel oops report, so maybe the kernel was
hanging in an endless loop when trying to resolve one kernel oops and producing
another one instead?

[Bug 708479] Re: Dash view should use "Prefferred Applications" icons where appropriate

2011-03-30 Thread Olivier Tilloy
@Mark: yes, the task is tracked by bug #692965.

@Joaquin: the current behaviour in Unity, which will be replicated in
Unity-2d, is to display the icons of the default applications (e.g.
Firefox/Chromium/Epiphany… depending on the default browser). If no
browser is present, the plan is to simply not display a "Browse the Web"
icon at all (see comment #6 in bug #736097). The same applies for "View
Photos", "Check Email" and "Listen to Music".

[Bug 744325] Re: Unity Launcher stops autohiding and is not responsive

2011-03-30 Thread Didier Roche
Just a note on this particular bug (that shouldn't influence the decision of
what's the best option by default):
- this issue is due to compiz being puzzled in the stack order (mainly, it
doesn't know that there is a window under the launcher). It's the same issue
which leaded to the "invisible windows" that we still sometimes gets. That's
basically why when you are in that state, clicks "go through" the launcher and
the apps below (or the desktop) are affected.
This doesn't only impact the intellihide, as sometimes, some windows can be on
screen and appears completely unresponsive.
There is a workaround in compiz which should "fix" this issue (regularly
restack the whole windows in the right order) that will be uploaded right away
beta1.

- the only false positive case we seem to encounter in the intellihide
behavior as of today is a case where nux doesn't send us (or that we
don't capture unity-side) the "leave" events. I'm investigating it this
week to see if that can be fixed.

Again, this is an update on this bug and the intellihide state. It
shouldn't influence the usability of what should be the default option
:)
