2.6.34-02063407-generic also works so the regression window is somewhere
between 2.6.34 and 2.6.35-22.

[Bug 718620] Re: Xorg assert failure: X: ../../dix/pixmap.c:118: AllocatePixmap: Assertion `pScreen->totalPixmapSize > 0' failed.

2011-02-21 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
If anyone can reproduce this easily, could they please install the
xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg package and attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log
from a failed start? This file will become /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old if
the *current* start worked and the previous one didn't.

[Bug 716640] Re: Shockwave Flash plugin crash

2011-02-21 Thread Horst F JENS
Thanks smaj, this works !
There are still minor graphic errors in some videos (lloks like an old image
from a crashed flash player) but your solution is excellent.
It seems to work only with the flash-plugin (via synaptic), not with gnash.

Re: [Bug 617101] Re: package g15daemon 1.9.5.3-8ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: if /dev/input/uinput is missing

2011-02-21 Thread luis olarte
yes it still crashes after every up date and lately it is hangs.
what I mean it leaterly hangs on any program that is running on.
like running VLC and k3b or if I am updating and doing any thing on at
same time it hangs, and can not witch from one to the other.
and it dose not matter what I am doing, all it take's is two peaces
of software running at the same time.
or if i pause the any media player like vlc or banshee, amarok,
audacity, audacious.
or even running Opera 11, Firefox, chromium, and I go to another app
it hangs and lately even after 15 min of waiting I can not even log
out nor change from one app to another.
it like working in ms full of virus.
it is not like i do not have resources my swap space is 11.3 Gbs ram 4
Gb ddr2 667 20 Gb for root 132 Gb ext4 for home 20 Gb NTFS for XP Pro
on 500 Gb drives Hitachi 7200 rpm 32 mg cache Asus M2 HDMI and 3 other
drives 500 Gbs each 1 for media the other are for Date.
and lately I have not done any have work on it, like for the past
month no time at home mostly on the laptop and on the other PC.
this one is not even on the network for the past 4 months.
it is like as soon it goses on line it gets hack that was 2 month ago.
I stop the britches in the network and it just dose not make any sense
no one is getting or any rouged app running.
I think I shall just start from scratch on this PC, just format every
thing and go from there.
well thanks any way, if I some time free next week I shall do that.

I propose to re-add 'affects update-manager'. There are still several
people trying to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 and failing because of this
bug. The error message they see instructs them to file a bug against
update-manager. "...please report this bug against the 'update-manager'
package..."

Currently this bug cannot be found when searching for 'update-manager'

[Bug 722494] [NEW] Nautlus hangs when deleting over LAN

2011-02-21 Thread Dave M G
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have some external drives that are mounted by NFS over a LAN.

If I view the drive/folder in Nautilus, and select any number of files
(1 or more), and then delete that file by any method (press delete key,
use a drop down menu, right click and select delete...), Nautilus will
display a progress bar, and then freeze.

The only way to stop it is to force it to quit. However, after that,
unless I reboot, I can not open any new Nautilus windows.

I looked for possible fixes or solutions on the web, and found the
suggestion that pressing shift+delete will bypass the trash and avoid
this problem. However, this fix does not work for me.

It got duped upstream to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34017
which is already marked fixed. I've subscribed to that one just in case.

2011-02-21 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this. I just filed Bug #722493 to remove varkon
from the archive since there is no longer a maintainer for it in Debian.
If you would like to maintain it in Debian or Ubuntu, we can get it back
in, but in the mean time, this is Won't Fix. Please report any other
issues you may find.

[Bug 722501] [NEW] GMA 4500MHD on UL30Vt doesn't support HDMI output

2011-02-21 Thread Barosl LEE
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

UL30Vt has two video cards, Intel GMA 4500MHD and NVIDIA G210M. Although
G210M supports HDMI video output, 4500MHD doesn't recognize the external
monitor connected by HDMI at all. But both support VGA connector.

Meanwhile, G210M cannot be an option; G210M isn't supported properly on
UL30Vt yet. To enable the card, we must change SATA operation mode to
Compatible. It will decrease performance of the hard disks. So we should
stay on 4500MHD until the issue is fixed.

[Bug 690239] Re: hang in g_spawn_sync and select()

2011-02-21 Thread Sam "SmSpillaz" Spilsbury
Alright, after some discussions with Ryan, I had a look into this again,
and I have now fixed the problem in compiz. Some notes about this:

 * DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS in the program's env isn't mandatory, since dbus
can scrape that information from the root window property if it has X11 support
 * DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS *won't* appear in the program env if it was
launched from a VT or SSH or something
 * Compiz issues an UngrabServer request right after doing XQueryTree, and then
initializes plugin screens right afterwards (before initializing every window).
 * UngrabServer isn't a synchronous operation, so there's a race for the X
Server to process that in time
 * On CcpScreen's ctor, it will initialize libcompizconfig which loads backends
(gconf)
 * GConf initializes and starts DBus to get a connection with the gconf server
 * GDbus sees that DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS isn't set and calls dbus-launch
--autolaunch to try and get the bus address
 * dbus-launch --autolaunch calls get_bus_address_platform_specific (X11
backend) which calls XOpenDisplay () and XGetWindowProperty () to try and get
the session bus address from the window prop
 * The UngrabServer request hasn't been processed yet, so XOpenDisplay
instantly fails
 * GDbus is using g_spawn_sync incorrectly and doesn't restore normal child
handling, so when the child process dbus-launch fails to return an address
(very rare case), it just blocks forever until glib times out the request. This
is what causes the apparent hang, then crash 2 minutes later

All of the items above the last one have been fixed compiz-side so this
is no longer an issue (though it does pose an interesting problem that
trying to get the session bus address while a server grab is active will
fail - that is probably a bad thing and should be resolved, maybe a temp
socket file should be created in the user's homedir?). Anyways, I
believe that while the last item is essentially a corner-case, it still
prints an interesting debug message if the command failed to get the bus
address and should be fixed.

Top of changelog.Debian.gz from hardy-security:

openssh (1:4.7p1-8ubuntu1.2) hardy-security; urgency=low

  * Add a FILES section to ssh-vulnkey(1) (thanks, Hugh Daniel).

  * ssh-vulnkey handles options in authorized_keys (LP: #230029), and treats

# as introducing a comment even if it is preceded by whitespace (thanks

Colin Watson)

openssh (1:4.7p1-8ubuntu1.1) hardy-security; urgency=low

  * Mitigate OpenSSL security vulnerability thanks to Colin Watson:

- Add key blacklisting support. Keys listed in

/etc/ssh/blacklist.TYPE-LENGTH will be rejected for authentication by

sshd, unless "PermitBlacklistedKeys yes" is set in

  /etc/ssh/sshd_config.

- Add a new program, ssh-vulnkey, which can be used to check keys

  against these blacklists.

- Depend on openssh-blacklist.

- Force dependencies on libssl0.9.8 / libcrypto0.9.8-udeb to at least

  0.9.8g-4ubuntu3.1.

- Automatically regenerate known-compromised host keys, with a

critical-priority debconf note. (I regret that there was no time to

  gather translations.)

  * added README.compromised-keys thanks to Colin Watson

[Bug 75151] Re: Refuses to open files where the character encoding is not recognised

2011-02-21 Thread Rune K. Svendsen
Could people experiencing this bug please specify which of these three
error messages you receive when you try to open your file (from "gedit-
io-error-message-area.c"):

gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a character encoding from the menu and try again.

There was a problem opening the file %s.
The file you opened has some invalid characters.
If you continue editing this file you could make this document useless.
You can also choose another character encoding and try again.

Could not open the file %s using the %s character encoding.
Please check that you are not trying to open a binary file.
Select a different character encoding from the menu and try again.

And, if possible, attach the file in question to this bug report.

As far as I can tell this type of error only happens when the file
contains two null chars in a row (0x).

[Bug 722334] Re: system broken during ugrade from lucid to maverick

2011-02-21 Thread Manfred Hampl
This can be a duplicate of bug 721306 and bug 614993 (and dozens of
similar ones)

If the package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is installed, in several cases
the 10.04 to 10.10 upgrade fails with the error message

"Could not determine the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu"

Several persons have reported that after removal of that package the
upgrade was successful.

Try this workaround: Open a terminal and enter the command:

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau

and try the upgrade again.

[Bug 722516] [NEW] virtualbox-ose package should be renamed

2011-02-21 Thread grofaty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

Prior to VirtualBox 4.0 there was two VirtualBox versions:
- VirtualBox OSE _ open-source edition (licensed under GPL),
- VirtualBox PUEL _ Personal Use and Evaluation License edition
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/VirtualBox_PUEL

With VirtualBox 4.0 there was a move:
- VirtualBox OSE --> VirtualBox (still licensed under GPL),
- VirtualBox PUEL --> is build as extension on VirtualBox product

So there is no reason to name a package (and PPA) as virtualbox-ose. The
package should be renamed to point to actual-official name.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-archive-keyring

The Lucid and Maverick package of d-a-k doesn't include the new Sid and

The major symptom of this bug is that creating a pbuilder Debian chroot

[Bug 662365] Re: "eeepc_wmi: Unknown key 88 pressed" when pressing Fn+F2 on Asus EEE1005HA

2011-02-21 Thread Ilja Sekler
Adjusting the bug status because the issue is fixed upstream.

@Ubuntu kernel team:

Please apply the upstream fixes for eeepc-wmi up to the changeset
"eeepc-wmi: reorder device ids"

from linux-next to Ubuntu Natty kernel. The corresponding blob:

This achieves feature parity with the legacy eeepc-laptop driver, fixes
a critical issue for users of Asus Eee PC 1000H as described in
 as well as
the issue of the reporter of this bug for other Eee PC models with WMI
device and allows to drop additional kernel options acpi_osi=Linux
acpi_backlight=vendor, improving Ubuntu OOTB experience on this
hardware.

I run Ubuntu Natty with upstream eeepc-wmi on top of official Natty
kernels on Eee PC 1000H and can confirm that eeepc-wmi works correctly.
The updated driver was also tested on Asus Eee PC 1005P running
Maverick.
