[Bug 721110] Re: users in nopasswdlogin group are asked for a password and locked

2011-02-18 Thread Carlo Marcelo Arenas Belon
this is somehow similar in use to #674563 but which is instead using
"empty" passwords which had been deprecated by the "nopasswdlogin"
functionality upstream as detailed in #393854.

note that the later bug mentions the need to add this also for gnome-
screensaver but that was somehow forgotten probably because of the long
discussion.

[Bug 721003] Re: mouse trigger; mouse over launcher is now slightly dysfunctional

2011-02-18 Thread Didier Roche
All the behaviors you are describing are intended, did you look at the
bug title from bug #706146?

"Launcher should not be locked in place until the pointer is actually in
the corner" -> the launcher is only locked if you hit 0,0 (you will see
the opacity to be 100%) and then, you can hovering the bfb, the opacity
don't change as the launcher is locked. I've tried the other options as
well and all seems fine to me. Am I missing something (in that case, can
you please provide a video of the issue)?

I agree however that we should need some design to maybe show the lock a
little bit more obvious (we will change the fade effect to not be linear
so that's the final "lock" position is more obvious).

Hey guy,
 Thanks for responding
The vala on ubuntu 11.04 at this moment is 0.11.6-0ubuntu1
The cairo dock is the current bzr version which should be 2.3.0~0beta1
This compile issue started just this past week with the vala update in
natty 11.04 earlier this week.

[Bug 561802] Re: [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410 (NOT E6510)

Kernel at http://people.canonical.com/~apw/lp561802-natty/ works well
for me (e6410, Intel i915, A06 BIOS, 64-bit maverick).

One issue: if I suspend and resume with the external display connected,
I get intense flickering on both displays. I found I could work around
this by turning the laptop display off, switching to a vt and back, then
turning the laptop display back on.

Otherwise, I'm very happy. Thanks to all of you who have worked on this.

Re: [Bug 561802] Re: [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410 (NOT E6510)

2011-02-18 Thread aftertaf
I've been using kernel 2.6.38.2 since maybe 3 weeks, and I'm really happy
about the stability with the video.

However, I'm having issues now with the wireless, being really really slow
and dropping out.
Has anyone else had this type of issue ?

[Bug 721121] Re: Icon in Launcher should be home folder icon

2011-02-18 Thread Didier Roche
some hints for prospective contributor: nautilus.desktop is opening a file from
the humanity-icon-theme named
humanity-icon-theme: /usr/share/icons/Humanity/apps/48/system-file-manager.svg

We can either point nautilus.desktop to another file, or change this
one. The impacts have to be looked at though.

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

After discussing with Jason, we need to find a better curve (non linear
one) to show the launcher when hovering on the bfb. This will help to
see the "lock" state as being really locked and don't miss 0:0 by a
pixel without noticing.

you dmesg says that block 0 is invalid. my patch on helps if block 0 is good,
but an extension block is invalid. you could try a more recent kernel to see if
it helps, 2.6.37, or a 2.6.38-rc

[Bug 721140] [NEW] no support for hours:minutes calculations

2011-02-18 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

The calculator supports hex, decimal, octal and binary, but does not support
the mixed 60:60 base calculation.
When I want to calculate a sum of, say, 9:30+7:45, I get a "Malformed
expression" notification,
whereas I want to get 17:15.

Please, note that in time calculations, the following formats may be used:
unlimited:60 for hours:minutes
unlimited:60:60 for hours:minutes:seconds
unlimited:60:60.100 for hours:minutes:seconds.hundreds
unlimited:60:60.1000 for hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds
unlimited_24:60 for days_hours:minutes
unlimited_24:60:60 for days_hours:minutes:seconds
unlimited_24:60:60.100 for days_hours:minutes:seconds.hundreds
unlimited_24:60:60.1000 for days_hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds

And, finally, sometimes we want to convert days_hours:minutes to, say,
seconds...

PS (Old joke)
how much is 50+50?
a) 100
b) A0
c) 1:40

PS and the way we count time is a _very_ old joke... But everyone is
locked in.

[Bug 687720] Re: emacs does not work correctly when, and only when, a new monitor is added

2011-02-18 Thread francisco m.
The most useful thing is that you use "bug report" to report the bug.
This is possible from your system, from the page (see top of the page)

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs23/+bugs

Moreover, execute the following command, as it will
automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 687720

(see also bug 691443). In this way, developers know your hardware and
will can do something in the future. That will also help the developers
understand that our hardware is very common. I hope your help, since
with this problem I must to leave Ubuntu or will I leave my computer.

[Bug 721142] [NEW] System program problem detected

2011-02-18 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

Whether I do something or not after having launched a Natty session,
after approx. 20 seconds the dialog "System program problem detected" is
shown (attached as system-problem-dialog.png). No more information is
given on the nature of the problem. A few days ago I clicked the "Report
problem..." button and followed the instructions, which resulted in bug
718524.

I attached the xsession-errors file, even if I can't tell if that info
is useful.

If there is an intention to show such problem alerts in 11.04, it's
important IMO that they include more meaningful info.

2011-02-18 Thread Andy Whitcroft
I am going to take that as positive testing of Hibernate/Resume, that
the black screen on resume there is no longer present. I would like to
see additional bugs for the boot symptoms please. If someone could take
a video or something that might be instructive.

Thank you for testing.

[Bug 600453] Re: [arrandale] [i915] DELL E6510: blank screen on boot (Intel GPU)

2011-02-18 Thread Andy Whitcroft
For those seeing oddities with brightness I think we have an unrelated
issue recently in userspace affecting brightness. I am going to get a
new bug started for that once I figure out which component to blame.

[Bug 599255] Re: dmraid fails to read promise RAID sector count larger than 32-bits

2011-02-18 Thread Andreas Allacher
Btw. if my bug is really related to this then I doubt that it is a
dmraid bug but more likely a kernel driver issue..?

[Bug 541620] Re: Ralink RT3090 Wireless Not Supported in Lucid

2011-02-18 Thread Nigel Pallett
I Have the RT3090 in my laptop working reliably using the rt2860sta
driver module in 802.11g mode with WPA2 security and controlled by
NetWorkManager under Ubuntu 10.10 64 Bit with the "2.6.35-27-generic"
kernel. I had to blacklist the rt2800pci module.

FWIW - In my experience with a variety of WiFi cards and routers/access
points, if the router/ap is configured for multiple wireless modes e.g
802.11b and 802.11g and 802.11n and multiple security protocols e.g WEP
and WPA and WPA2, then wireless connections from many linux drivers can
be less reliable. On a number of occasions, I have solved such problems
by configuring the router/ap to use a single network mode (802.11g) and
a single security mode WPA2.

Additionally, unless you need to roam between multiple access points
which have the same name (e.g. university campus), connection stability
can be further improved by adding the access point's MAC address to the
BSSID field in your linux client configuration for that access point.

I've also encountered situations where linux wireless drivers will not
connect to access points on channels 12 and 13.

[Bug 721147] [NEW] flash-kernel subarch check fails with Linaro OMAP kernels

2011-02-18 Thread Ken Werner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flash-kernel

When using flash-kernel with a recent Linaro kernel on an OMAP4 board
the subarch check fails because the kfile does not end with a '3' or '4'
- it's just named like this: vmlinuz-2.6.37-1002-linaro-omap. Since the
linaro-omap kernel supports both the OMAP3 and OMAP4 there is no need to
add a '3' or '4'.

The attached patch omits the check_subarch check for OMAP boards if
$kfile matches the substring 'linaro-omap'.

** Affects: flash-kernel (Ubuntu)
