[Bug 587426] Re: No GPU found

2011-01-15 Thread s...@webmail.co.za
Same problem here.
Installed Ubuntu 10.10 from scratch - did standard update on ATI driver and
used Software Center to install Boinc.
Got version 6.10.58 which does not find my HD4850. ("No usable GPUs..")
Fiddled around a bit using suggestions from this thread with no success.
Uninstalled Boinc from Software Center and downloaded
boinc_6.10.58_i686-pc-linux-gnu.sh from Boinc website and ran directly from
Downloads folder.
Starting the Run_Client and Run_Manager scripts manually from here works fine
with Boinc finding the GPU and crunching DnetC ATI tasks with ease.

Its coming up for 9-months since this bug was reported, so is it not
time to give birth to a fix in the Software Center install scripts?

The original bug-report states Boinc 6.10.17 was installed, so its
obviously been updated since then.. so how come this bug is still
around? - Its clearly just a user/permissions/timing/ownership issue as
there is no problem running the exact same code under the current user
after startup/login etc.

The word "Preference" should not be repeated for a System > Preferences menu

"Ibus preference" was fixed for maverick. There is Bug #687269 specifically for
"Broadcast preferences".
Any other app with menu item repeating the word "preferences" should be filed
as individual bugs. Closing this bug report.

[Bug 655950] Re: Maverick ubiquity confusion w/ auto-resize option results in OS and data loss

2011-01-15 Thread Erick Brunzell
Another one bites the dust:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1667559

Quote:

"I lost my entire windows partition due to a misleading option in ubuntu
10.10 installation.

There is an option to install ubuntu side by side. Once that option is
selected it should never use entire disk for installation. But that is
not the fact.

After selecting that option, it will display the largest partition
available on disk. We can drag the pointer to select the appropriate
size for ubuntu from that partition. But below, there is another option
'Select entire partition'.

So 'Select entire partition' should select only that single partition
showed above. It should not use entire disk. But it used entire disk (In
my case). Isn't it wrong?"

Ubuntu's reputation is being harmed here!!

this is only a partial fix. in UNR the windows do get their menus with

It also happens on ubuntu 64 bit (ati mobiliy radeon x1600). Same driver and

I got it working by running compiz with --loose-binding. Unfortunately I didn't

hack it a little:

sudo bash
cd /usr/bin
mv compiz compiz.binary
vi compiz
#!/bin/bash

exec /usr/bin/compiz.binary --loose-binding $*

Hi Ali,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 684566

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 702858] Re: [Natty] Nautilus_2.32.2.1-0ubuntu4 crashes

2011-01-15 Thread Harry
OK Didier, here is how you can reproduce this bug.
I did more searching on it.

In fact Nautilus_2.32.2.1-0ubuntu4 does not crash when I move mouse cursor on
it.
It crashes when I move my mouse cursor on my side panel (which set to autohide)
and at the same time icons on the desktop flicker.
If I remove the autohide option from the panel, Nautilus does not crash anymore
nor do the icons flicker.

So it is this autohide function of a panel that crashes Nautilus, every
time mouse cursor wakes the panel.

[Bug 622937] Re: please, upgrade tovid

2011-01-15 Thread Patrick Callahan
I didn't see an up-to-date Ubuntu package for tovid, and I couldn't find
an up-to-date Debian package of another variety elsewhere, either. I
banged my head on the keyboard for a while and brought the old tovid
package up to date. While the project doesn't necessarily use autoconf,
my package uses it because I wanted to change it as little as possible,
and didn't feel like making a new one from scratch. I plan to fix it,
but for now I mostly want to get to bed (it's ~3am).

I'm sure my package is gimmicky in some ways, but I want to improve it
and if it turns out that this isn't a priority for anyone else, I'd be
happy to continue working on it.

In the meantime, your Ubuntu users at least have something they can use
to get a proper installation of tovid.

[Bug 703221] [NEW] "Verify Local Data" does not check file size

2011-01-15 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: transmission

Description of the problem:
Transmission does not check that a torrent is "small enough" when it is fully
downloaded or if it "Verify Local Data" is used. This means that junk on the
end of a file is not fixed.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run
transmission
http://download2.bittornado.com/download/BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe.torrent
(or whatever the "download via BitTorrent" link on
http://www.bittornado.com/download.html is)
2. Follow the steps to let BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe download (e.g. to
~/Downloads).
3. Run
md5sum ~/Downloads/BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe
4. Run
truncate --size=+1k ~/Downloads/BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe
5. Press the right mouse button over BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe torrent
in the Transmission GUI and select "Verify Local Data".
6. Wait for the verification to finish and then run
md5sum ~/Downloads/BitTornado-0.3.18-w32install.exe

Expected results:
The md5sum values returned at step 3 and step 6 to be the same (assuming the
file downloaded correctly in the first place :).

Actual results:
The md5sum values returned at step 3 and step 6 are different.

Additional information:
This situation is rare but it really can occur due to bugs elsewhere in the
system (see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=669511 ). It would be
good if "Verify Local Data" was able to fix up such files.

Version information:
Ubuntu 10.04
transmission-gtk 1.93-0ubuntu0.10.04.1

[Bug 703228] [NEW] memcpy Oops in suspend_nvs_save after multiple S4 cycles

2011-01-15 Thread Colin King
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu-2.6.35-25, Maverick.

After repeated S4 cycles, a memcpy() Oops occurs in suspend_nvs_save.
This error occurs because the ioremap of the NVS region fails, returning
NULL and the subsequent memcpy() tries to copy to a NULL pointer, hence
the oops.

We are running out of mappable regions because suspend_nvs_save() is
called twice during hibernation, and yet the unmapping via
suspend_nvs_free() is only called once, hence we have a leak.

Looking at create_image() in kernel/power/hibernate.c, we can see that
we call the __acpi_pm_prepare() via arch_prepare_suspend() and a little
later we call platform_pre_snapshot() which calls
acpi_hibernation_pre_snapshot() which does the duplication of the
suspend_nvs_save(). We need to drop one of these.

This has been fixed in upstream commit:

commit c5f7a1bb65bca03253c189e946b3ca79669f08af
Author: Rafael J. Wysocki
Date: Fri Jul 2 00:14:09 2010 +0200

[Bug 703228] Re: memcpy Oops in suspend_nvs_save after multiple S4 cycles

2011-01-15 Thread Colin King
Note: Without this patch, one particular laptop is failing after 12 S4
iterations. With the patch we don't get the memcpy() oops anymore.

I've also soak tested this patch on another machine with 250 S4 cycles.
I also threw in 250 S3 cycles to make sure we don't get any regressions.

[Bug 703233] [NEW] Machine fails to boot. Message: 'No init found. Try passing init = bootarg.'

2011-01-15 Thread Rob McCallum
Public bug reported:

My daughter's laptop is running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. Every couple of
weeks or so she turns it on and gets this message:

No init found. Try passing init = bootarg.

  BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

  (initramfs) _

It won't boot and BusyBox doesn't have the command to fix the filesystem
(fsck - see below).

To fix this you have to put in a live CD or SystemRescueCD and type the
following command at a terminal:

fsck -y /dev/sda1

(It needs sudo if used with a live CD)

fsck usually finds a problem with the file system - the most recent time
it found some inconsistencies in the free blocks data structures.

The machine then boots every time and no data has been lost. Pretty
benign. However it does mean that my daughter has to carry around a CD
with her every where she goes - not a great advertisement for ubuntu!

BTW I thought it might be due to a faulty hard drive so I changed it and
restored her stuff (I used clonezilla to image the old disk to an
external drive). No luck - she still gets the problem!

She always shuts down the machine the correct way - using the graphical
shutdown tool. Mount shows that her partition uses ext4 filesystem.

This bug report filing is an automatic process because of kernel update
failure.

The error is :

/etc/grub.d/10_linux: 190: Syntax error: end of file unexpected (expecting
"done")
User postinst hook script [/usr/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 2

Could you please also attach the file /etc/grub.d/10_linux to this report ?
Thanks.

[Bug 697974] Re: time-admin crashed with SIGSEGV in e_map_point_get_location()

2011-01-15 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
The problem isn't that I fear people won't do the work, as I know
packaging will happen anyway. It's just that the way Ubuntu devs
consider patching is plain wrong: there's generally no hurry pushing a
fix to the development release, so downstream patching only generates
useless work. I wish Ubuntu would turn to upstream when they have a
patch before even thinking of applying it: very often, feedback and
discussion can help understanding the best solution. Plus, if I hadn't
been around, would upstream have even heard of this patch one day? This
is not against you at all, it's more a general state of mind that I
consider slightly counter-productive.

I've tried to reproduce this with Compiz, and I can't. Weird. If under
Compiz we're getting leave-notify-event signals, something is really
wrong. Did you notice when these signals are sent? When simply moving
the pointer, when clicking... ?

[Bug 603451] Re: empathy -h does not start hidden

I confirm, the bug still exists in Empathy-2.32.0-0ubuntu2.
As a workaround, you can create a script which sleeps for 10s then launches
empathy -h like this:
sh -c "sleep 10 && (empathy -h &)

@Milos (#69): Try updating your BIOS to the latest version available

[Bug 703236] [NEW] Will Not Resume from Suspend or Hibernate

2011-01-15 Thread Jon Pennington
Public bug reported:

Attempting to resume by pressing the power button turns on the power
light, HD access light, and screen backlight indicator, but does not
turn on the display. Holding the power button will kill the machine;
pressing power again shows BURG boot loader, performs chkdsk, and then a
spontaneous reboot. I have tried -22 and -24 kernels, with and without
proprietary ATI X server, with and without compiz installed, and also
mainline kernels for Maverick from November 2010 and -current from a few
days ago; all with the same failure.

[Bug 550625] Re: Alps touchpad is recognized but synaptics clients and scrolling do not work

2011-01-15 Thread Sasquatch
Those of you with a Dell Latitude E6510, I use the same laptop and used
the attached patched files with previous stock kernels until I went to
2.6.36 and now run 2.6.37. No problem with the last kernel on it. So
maybe it's the kernel that's giving problems, or you're missing the
kernel headers package (unlikely with DKMS installed, but check to be
sure). Else just upgrade to 2.6.36 or newer from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline. The 2.6.36 kernel fixed
my suspend issue, so it's worth a shot. If you use the Intel video card
in it, 2.6.37 might be a good choice. My Latitude has an nVidia card and
uses it, so I don't need the Intel GMA patches or anything. Maybe it's
dual-video due to the i7 CPU?

[Bug 702988] Re: Natty partial upgrade error: ubuntu-desktop cannot be installed

2011-01-15 Thread Espinet
I think I found a way around the bug. I performed the upgrade through
the synaptic package manager and reinstalled the package afterward.

But after that I still had a dependency problem, as I see it, the cairo-
dock (and its plugins) were conflicting with the libwebkitgtk. The way I
found that out was by manually installing the libwebkitgtk (after having
recieved several dep problem concerning this library). This installation
remove some of the cairo plugins.

[Bug 703241] [NEW] Crash on alternate bootups before grub2 menu reached

2011-01-15 Thread Christopher Neville-Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

Okay, for once I've got a bug in Ubuntu that actually is causing
problems.

Until a week or two ago, everything that mattered worked fine. However,
now when I boot up, the system freezes on a flashing cursor before I
even get to the boot menu. When I restart the computer, it then boots up
fine (perhaps a little slower). It then crashes on the next boot, fine
after, and so on.

I assume this is a regression bug from an update, but I can't think
which update caused this. Neither grub2 nor ureadahead have been updated
for ages in 10.10.

Help!

Dicha aplicación te pide la autenticación para poder realizar cambios

[Bug 703243] [NEW] Importing song from iPod do not set score as rating

2011-01-15 Thread jac
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

Description:Ubuntu 10.10
Release:10.10

banshee:
  Installato: 1.9.2-1ubuntu1~hyper1+maverick
  Candidato: 1.9.2-1ubuntu1~hyper1+maverick

I have the "write score and # plays to file"-option activated.
After importing songs from my iPod, if I open proprieties of a track I see that
play count/score/etc are correctly imported but the rating in Banshee (stars)
are never set.

It's pretty important to have the same rating (stars) both in iPod UI
and in Banshee.

The bug is still present, and in some cases Firefox is configured as es-

It really annoys me since I'm part of the Mozilla es-ES localization
group ;)

[Bug 220765] Re: xdg-open should use xdg-mime instead of run-mailcap when no DE detected

2011-01-15 Thread Dan Muresan
Workaround available in my PPA,

https://launchpad.net/~danmbox/+archive/ppa

With a backported xdg-utils from Maverick plus two pathes picked up from
upstream (freedesktop.org) the problem is solved. Let's hope for a new
release in natty, followed by a Lucid backport. This is not an
acceptable state of affairs for an LTS release.
