[Bug 681555] Re: External monitor not recognized with Nvidia 320M using a mini display-port to VGA Apple adapter
I am experiencing the same behavior. To this excellent documentation I will only be able to add the observation that the system "pause" happens when running xrandr as well, and the proposed fix does not work for me on Kubuntu 10.10, as I am experiencing another, catastrophic bug using the binary driver (the whole video system crashes to blank screens after an indeterminate amount of time, requiring a reboot to clear. Possibly related to a few other bugs being reported re: Qt and the binary driver). In short, as of right now there is no good way to attach an external monitor on my system (Macbook Pro 13", 7,1). [Bug 629258] Re: Battery life estimation never comes around
Brian: I am using the patched upower and friends from your PPA, and I have a regression: the estimated time is frequently calculated incorrectly, due to an incorrect calculation of the current. For example, in typing this comment, I watched as three notifications went by, all saying "laptop battery low" and reporting the battery at 5%, but in order, they reported estimated remaining times at 0:12, 0:06, and now 0:20. My power usage has not changed significantly during this period. I believe this is due to a sampling error, though I haven't looked at the patch so I can't say how often it really occurs or exactly how to fix it. In most cases it is fine though, so thank you for the work, but I think it needs further review and testing before it is merged into mainline. Furthermore, Intel's powertop gets the current correctly 100% of the time, maybe it is worth looking in to how they calculate it. Also, I can say for certain that my device used to properly report current_now, in fact, I had scripts that used this value before and they worked perfectly. I wish I could say with certainty when this regression occurred, I expect it was due to a kernel update. I know it worked some time after I upgraded to maverick, but before I started using the 2.6.36 kernel from kernel-mainline (because that was supposed to fix the extra load balancing ticks, which it didn't really do, sadly). I don't expect that this is the issue though, since so many others see this bug that are probably not using the 36 kernel. I hope to do more investigation in the future. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/629258 Title: Battery life estimation never comes around -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 252286] Re: Paper Size in Evolution ist not respected
I can reproduce this bug in Ubuntu 10.10. "Paper Size" option is gray and cannot be changed on "File - Print - Page Setup menu" in Evolution 2.30.3. It is selected and fixed as "US Letter" by default. This setting probably comes from my locale which is LC_PAPER="en_US.utf8". Whatever locale they use, I cannot see any reason for users not being able to choose their paper size freely. This is a real annoyance and I believe it needs an urgent fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252286 Title: Paper Size in Evolution ist not respected -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 690733] Re: Pulseaudio crash with Rhythmbox and K3B.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. I think the problem lies in K3B somehow, since it seems that the "I'm done" sound is not being played through PulseAudio. How it manages to "take over" the soundcard and bypass PulseAudio is what I don't understand (and PulseAudio doesn't seem to understand that it lost the soundcard either). I'm assigning this to K3B, perhaps they'll know how and why K3B is doing that. Nevertheless, I see you're running Ubuntu 10.04 - in Ubuntu 10.10 more of KDE is running through PulseAudio, do you know if this is still a problem in 10.10? ** Package changed: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) => k3b (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/690733 Title: Pulseaudio crash with Rhythmbox and K3B. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 672964] Re: 2.6.32-26 unbootable: does not find root file system
Hello Jean-Baptiste, Jean-Baptiste Lallement [2010-11-22 11:23 -]: > I'm unable to reproduce the original issue with the provided test case. > The diversion is removed and update-initramfs is run in the postinst > script, copying the right udevadm to the initramfs. Ah, you mean that calling the udev postinst in step 3 updates the initramfs _again_, and this time a correct one. Right, so the check for the broken initramfs should be done before calling the postinst. I updated the test case in the description accordingly. > But, if I run update-initramfs without removing the diversion first > (running steps 1 & 2 or skipping enable_udevadm in postinst) then the > current version in -updates generates a broken initramfs and the version > in -proposed generates a correct initramfs. That's the situation this update was meant to fix indeed. So I'll call this a succesful verification. > So this fix fixes an issue, but I am not sure that it fixes the issue > reported here originally. The original description and followups seem to indicate exactly that problem. Unfortunately it is hard to provide a simple test case for this, as the actual bug would only occur if multiple kernel ABIs are involved during upgrade. I. e. the first udevadm trigger during the update updates the initramfs for ABI 2.6.X (a broken one due to this bug), and later on in the game a new kernel 2.6.Y gets installed, and apparently the final udev configure then only updated the initramfs for 2.6.Y, but not for .X any more. Thanks, Martin -- Martin Pitt| http://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer (www.ubuntu.com) | Debian Developer (www.debian.org) ** Description changed: When trying to boot 2.6.32-26, the following error occurs: udevadm trigger is not permitted while udev is unconfigured. SRU TEST CASE: -- This is a somewhat synthetic, but IMHO sufficient test case: - Pretend that udev is currently being upgraded: sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.preinst upgrade `dpkg-query -W -f '${Version}' udev` - Now update initramfs: sudo update-initramfs -u - - Finish the fake udev upgrade: - sudo /var/lib/dpkg/info/udev.postinst configure `dpkg-query -W -f '${Version}' udev` - If you do this in a VM and can apply a previous snapshot, or are able to boot an older kernel, then you can reboot now and confirm that the initramfs is broken. [Bug 537472] Re: upgrade from hardy to lucid fails
I fail to see how the current upload to proposed is a solution for this. I see the same problem on Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS with CUPS version 1.4.3-1ubuntu1.3. After a reboot a new and empty /etc/cups/printers.conf is created. [Bug 644644] Re: Frequent PA crashes during playback - pa_stream_cork() failed: Connection terminated and pa_stream_writable_size(): Connection failed
@Romano, hmm, good question - I think the easiest way would be to install and use the ppa-purge tool to remove my ppa. Then add it again, and when the update manager asks you for upgrading, uncheck the relevant boxes. After changing package versions, logout and login before testing. @Aleksandr, thanks! [Bug 583172] Re: cups lose configuration
Roberto, I am not sure I understand your last sentence correctly. Does a printers.conf from a different computer solve the problem? If so, could you look for the differences between the kept printers.conf and a printers.conf created by CUPS on the machine which is lost after shutdown? (You can use "diff -u" to compare the two files.)
