[Bug 481819] Re: [i945gm] external monitor hotkey breaks gnome-display-properties, changes theme

2010-12-01 Thread David Hugh-Jones
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-evdev

I have a Lenovo X60 with an external docking station, and an external
  monitor attached.

When I dock the laptop, and press Fn+f7 to activate the external
  monitor, the following happens:

  1. My gnome theme is changed from DarkRoom to (I guess?) the standard theme.
  2. The monitor is activated with the laptop screen set up to the left of the
external monitor.
  3. Using gnome-display-properties or xrandr to change the layout, does
nothing and gives no error message.
  4. After logging out and in again, my gnome theme comes back to DarkRoom and
gnome-display-properties works OK.

  1. and 3. are the problem.

[Bug 673366] Re: Default worker_connections too high for default system

2010-12-01 Thread C Snover
“If you get into that much load, you should know how to configure your
system to deal with it.”

I don’t feel it is unreasonable to expect that the default OS settings
won’t cause the disk to fill up (and, in doing so, cause other stuff to
crash) when the default connection limit is reached. In our case,
someone started hotlinking to a resource which caused an abnormally high
number of connections; normally, this server is very low-load and
doesn’t see more than 10 concurrent connections at any given time.

What I am hearing from you is that it’s dangerous and unwise to assume
that Ubuntu can provide sane settings out of the box, and it was foolish
of me to not plan to receive 100 times the normal amount of traffic.
While you are entitled to this opinion, it is not a position that I
understand or agree with. If that’s not what you intended, I apologise
for misunderstanding, and hope you can clarify.

Regards,

[Bug 650525] Re: Failed to fetch http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick/Release ; missing key

2010-12-01 Thread Linus van Geuns
Well, it's not that surprising that importing a missing key manually
will fix warning messages about the missing key. :-)

Does this mean, ubuntu-extras-keyring will ship the singing key soon?

I dont know the procedures and details of "Ubuntu extras", but every
archive/package signing key used in that repository should be shipped
via the keyring package _before_ it is being used for signatures, aint
it?

[Bug 656241] Re: Mixxx with ATI graphics card (using FGLRX) crashes Ubuntu

2010-12-01 Thread Peter Havekes
The textures program runs without any troubles,
I have:
- all desktop effects enabled
- ubuntu 10.10
- Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series

I don't experience the 'ghosts' and other troubles when using waveforms in
mixxx; the only problem is it craches X if waveforms were enabled on startup.
If I anable waveforms when mixxx is already running it works fine.

[Bug 683444] Re: Byobu doesn't have a icon in the side bar in unity 11.04

2010-12-01 Thread Didier Roche
It's not a duplicate, I would say that its because in your desktop file, you
have:
Icon=/usr/share/byobu/pixmaps/byobu.svg
instead of an icon name and the desktop file parser don't pick it, will have a
look.

[Bug 574585] Re: Windows on widget layer move up screen

2010-12-01 Thread Martin Spacek
Interesting. I've been noticing this with any old window in general (I
don't use the widgets layer, I hardly know what it is). Any time I hide
and then show a window, it climbs up the screen by one title bar height,
until it hits the top. Then it stops. By hide/show, I mean make the
window completely disappear using some sort of toggling built into the
app, not just minimize/restore. This upward movement happens in compiz,
but not in metacity. This was especially annoying me in audacious (see
bug report at http://jira.atheme.org/browse/AUDPLUG-301). As mentioned
in the above comments, I've also discovered that if I disable
audacious's title bar by switching it to the classic winamp GUI mode,
the upward movement disappears. I've confirmed the same problem in my
own custom qt app.

I'm running amd64 maverick, which was upgraded from lucid. I suspect
this problem began after upgrading to maverick. I'm using the latest
nvidia binary driver from the repos. I have my panel at the bottom of
the screen.

I can't replicate this problem on other maverick machines running
compiz. I suspect I have some strange setting somewhere that might be
causing this problem, and I bet it's related to everyone's problem here
regarding the widgets layer. In other words, this may not be so much a
bug as a misconfiguration. I've tried disabling the "Place windows"
plugin in CCSM, with no luck (it always automatically re-enables
itself). For audacious, I now simply force it to always be at the bottom
right, but that's not a solution.

Any ideas where this misconfiguration might be occurring? Is there an
easy way to reset all compiz setting, like perhaps deleting some config
file or folder, or completely reinstalling all compiz packages?

Also, bug #574856 and bug #631664 seem related.

[Bug 445487] Re: Network-Manager fails WPA2 Enterprise configuration

2010-12-01 Thread Schlomo Schapiro
Did some more tests with a new p12 certificate and it works!

The only thing that I can tell now is that you have to fill in all
fields in the settings dialogue (also the ID).

So far I only can tell sorry for my previous entry, should have done
more testing before posting.

My configuration:

Ubuntu 10.10 maverick with these package versions:
$ dpkg -l | grep -E '(network-manager|wpa)'
ii network-manager
0.8.1+git.20100810t184654.ab580f4-0ubuntu2
ii network-manager-gnome
0.8.1+git.20100809t190028.290dc70-0ubuntu3
ii network-manager-pptp
0.8.1+git.20100810t192516.1e6db5a-0ubuntu1
ii network-manager-pptp-gnome
0.8.1+git.20100810t192516.1e6db5a-0ubuntu1
ii wpasupplicant 0.6.10-2

We will now start a roll-out with .p12 certificates and TLS, I will
report back if any new issues arise.

[Bug 683521] [NEW] ncal does not support ISO 8601 week date

2010-12-01 Thread mrq1
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bsdmainutils

the ncal provided with maverick has no option to print week dates
in the ISO 8601 format

info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_week_date

>>> ncal -w
December 2010
Mo 6 13 20 27

We 1 8 15 22 29
Th 2 9 16 23 30

Sa 4 11 18 25
Su 5 12 19 26
   49 50 51 52 1

correct ouput would be:

>>> ncal -W
December 2010
Mo 6 13 20 27
Tu 7 14 21 28
We 1 8 15 22 29
Th 2 9 16 23 30

Sa 4 11 18 25
Su 5 12 19 26

maybe a switch needs to be added for this (-W ?)

[Bug 664431] Re: QT on armel is built with NEON by default

2010-12-01 Thread Thiago Macieira
That's already so:

$ git ls-files *_neon*
src/gui/image/qimage_neon.cpp
src/gui/painting/qdrawhelper_neon.cpp
src/gui/painting/qdrawhelper_neon_asm.S
src/gui/painting/qdrawhelper_neon_p.h

These files are the ones that contain 99% of the Neon code in Qt and
they're properly run-time detected now (as far as I know).

The only unprotected code is in qstring.cpp: the cost of runtime
detection is higher than the benefit, so we decided not to do it. If you
compile Qt for a processor with Neon, you get it, otherwise you don't.

[Bug 673366] Re: Default worker_connections too high for default system

2010-12-01 Thread Michael Lustfield
What exactly do you think should be done so you don't have to monitor
what's going on in your own system? The worker_connections will be
reduced to 768 in the next version of this package which is scheduled
for around Friday.

Do you expect Nginx to tell you how to configure your system? With this
change, it'll tell you that in the logs.

Read my analogy again about SSH. It's the exact same thing.

[Bug 681361] Re: [945GM] dual screen crash with total resolution bigger than 2048x2048

2010-12-01 Thread Krzysztof Matusik
Hello again

Tested. When I use compiz without "visual effects" problem doesn't exist.
I had mutter enabled when the problem was happening, well... I think mutter
_is_ using some compositing or whatever... I've installed compiz-icon to enable
compiz with it. Unfortunately I can't enable those "visual effects" right now-
with or without dual-head. Any attempt makes windows loose it's decoration and
then things fall back to previous settings. I must say that "the 2048x2048
problem" was looking quite similar- the X didn't crashed totally, only windows
kept flickering, without its decorations, and then after a while it felt back
to previous settings.
I've installed intel drivers from natty; no difference (although it seems
graphics are working a bit faster :-).

Let me know if there's anything else I should try.

regards

There's an additional problem here, it doesn't build any more with
gcc-4.5. Fixing that first.

[Bug 682781] Re: empathy buggy list vanish when opened twice using the indicator

2010-12-01 Thread Hernando Torque
Default.ini is empty here as well (using an unmodified Unity profile).

I can reliably reproduce it (see steps above).

* Start Empathy with the buddy list opened (from the terminal, the launcher
bar, or the messages indicator),
* Switch to another workspace,
* Click on the messages indicator > Chat

=> Empathy vanishes from the launcher bar (or gets marked as not running
if it was pinned), the buddy list becomes invisible and is on top on all
workspaces (blocking windows below it). If I click where the buddy list
is supposed to be, the appmenu indicator doesn't show Empathy's menu,
but I can quit Empthy via Ctrl-Q, so it has to have the focus somehow.

[Bug 683531] [NEW] panel not there after maverick -> natty upgrade with no 3d

2010-12-01 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

After upgrading from maverick to natty alpha-1 I get a "empty" desktop
on login. No panel or anything, just the background and a cursor. I can
see that gnome-session is running and a bunch of tasks etc. Starting the
panel manually gives me a panel without a main menu launcher (and no
top panel).

[Bug 681321] Re: Xorg crash on attaching or detaching any USB device

2010-12-01 Thread sam
Just upgraded from 10.04 I have 2 ati radeon 4870s which worked fine
before the upgrade. After the upgrade opening up applications at random
crashes the display so I'm back at the login.

An example is opening up a browser is fine.
Playing YouTube crashes
Opening a terminal window is fine
Opening up an X application like keypassx crashes
Nautilus explorer is fine
Try to play something with VLC media crashes

really annoying, tried doing a clean and replace with the fglrx drivers
directly from ati as well as the ones provided through the additional
driver option under administration, same thing happens.
