[Bug 625193] Re: Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing
Maybe I wasnt clear in my previous comment regarding the bug status change! I dont disregard the opinion of reporter or others who have commented here. And I did not say the wallpaper is perfect. But *as a bug* , this bug has nothing more that subjective comments about the wallpaper. Which does not make it a valid bug, but rather an Opinion. Here is how i read the bug, its an "I dont like this, so change it!" , hence I ask "why dont you like it?" :-) This is a similar question which will be asked on any bug report, which requests a change in the behavior of the app or the OS. No one is expected to be an artist here, I'm just questioning why this is a bug! People interested in discussing/questioning the wallpaper can rather bring up the discussion on the Ayatana mailing list. A launchpad bug report is *not* the place for discussions. @ Maia, I did not make the wallpaper. There is no supposed 'artistically sound' master piece of mine here! ;-) And what do you mean popular vote? who voted? where? Just because a tabloid's comment section spews with hate comments does not make it a popular vote of the entire Ubuntu community. Lets not drag unnecessary mentions on this bug report here and kindly stay on topic for this bug! -- Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 625193] Re: Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing
It's hilarious to me that the bug is being dismissed because "ugly" is a subjective word. Clearly, a wallpaper is an artifact that is to be judged and evaluated BOTH in terms of how functional it is and ALSO on how BEAUTIFUL it is. Demanding that people give you engineering reasons why a wallpaper is ugly, is just plain and obvious silliness. And even if it made sense to reject, dismiss and disregard people's subjective appreciations of the wallpaper on the basis that appreciations are in principle subjective, you have to recognize that these appreciations are UNANIMOUSLY "this wallpaper is ugly as sheeeit". That ought to be reason enough to regard people's appreciations as equivalent to objective disapproval. -- Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625193 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 626159] [NEW] Xorg instability and freezes : nvidia-current 256.44 - amd64 and ubuntu maverick
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Hi there, latest drivers installed by either distro repo or by the installer with Ubuntu maverick fail often and regularly. Always reproducable using x264 video and vdpau output via mplayer and doing resizes ff/rwd of video. Also occurs doing simple things (open firefox/ view menu of application launcher). DPMS "off" makes slightly more stable although still crashes with mplayer test. Have tested against 2.6.35-17 and 2.6.35-19 maverick amd64 kernels. Have also tested with xorg-edgers ppa xorg versions but with same results as described here. System hangs, often still able to get in via network, however doing intensive things (cat large syslog ) will hang the process. Xorg and any offending triggering application cannot be killed manually. gdm restart also does not work. shutdown now and reboot will not trigger reboot. Power must be cycled. Attached are various dump I was able to obtain during a freeze. nvidia-bug report hangs during collection so may be incomplete. Also the ABI for the 256.44 drivers is out of date and needs updating, but this is a seperate issue to the general instability. Have attempted using xorg-edgers ppa with same result. Also attempted to use the 256.35 drivers but it complains of missing linux-vdso.so.1 library and X does not load. [Bug 626027] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2
It looks to me like the problem was with xorg-driver-fglrx, which still had some diversions registered for /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 and /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 despite it no longer being a real package. So when fglrx tried to restore the libGL.so stuff it failed causing the entire uninstall to fail. I resolved the problem by forcing a reinstall of fglrx then manually running: sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 sudo dpkg-divert --remove /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 Then I was able to uninstall fglrx successfully. VDPAU still isn't working even with the newer fglrx driver, but that's a different problem I believe. -- package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-removal script returned error exit status 2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/626027 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 580183] Re: asus eeepc 1001px in/out jack not functionnal and screen microphone
With Fedora I managed to get everything working, using hda-verb Without any option in the alsa configuration file, writing into /etc/rc.local the following lines and rebooting. /usr/local/bin/hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1a SET_CONNECT_SEL 0x0c /usr/local/bin/hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1a SET_PIN_WIDGET_CONTROL 0xe0 In the audio preference, set as speakers and with balance on the left, works the headphone plugging the jack and the speakers unplugging, and of course works also the microphone. I'm seeing this problem on my 3 systems that run ubuntu 10.04 (2 x 64bit and 1 x 32bit). I have had to use the "check" button workaround since I first installed 10.04. [Bug 625193] Re: Official 10.10 wallpaper is unappealing
Inspired by Chauncellor, here are the results of a mini survey: I changed the default wallpaper in our office (9 workstations running lucid). 5 out 9 tried first to adjust their screens and then called the helpdesk claiming that their monitor is out focus and that they can't fix it. 2 other's were onto me and simply changed the wallpaper, and the remaining to were the ones that actually made me worry about this, they worked half a day with this image and during lunch the went home because of severe migraine and the other said that he had such a strain on his eyes that he could not continue... Summary: So this new wallpaper cost me during one day: 5 calls to helpdesk, resulting 5 hours of delayed work time. 1 sick leave and 1 fatigued, 8 hours of lost work time.
