Update: I saw no change in behavior with the Berkeley v6.10.56 BUT I failed to
detach/re-attach from BAM :-(
Upon re-installing v6.10.58 from the PPA AND detaching/re-attaching from/to BAM
the error went away again.

[Bug 555169] Re: [lucid] Keyboard and mouse freeze after grub, usb and PS/2 keyboard not working in X (after upgrade? bad-upgrade to lucid)

2010-08-01 Thread L Schmiedl
The issue sounds like the problem on my notebook Dell D830 with a docking
station. I installed a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 four weeks ago. Before I used Ubuntu
9.04 without any problem.
Now I randomize get freezes on GDM Login. Both keyboards, internal and PC/2,
also the synaptic touchpad and the external mouse are frozen. All other devices
seems to be right. I can shut down the system with the power button and reboot.
Or I can switch the external mouse and keyboard on a PS2-USB-Converter. After I
plugged this in, I can log in and work with the notebook.
After a reboot the fault is disappeared. Mouses and keyboards on PS/2 and
internal devices works fine. The next freeze I'll get 3 or 4 days after.
In case of fault I found the following entries

[27.681159] input: PS/2 Generic Mouse as
/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input14
[27.881028] psmouse.c: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1

in /var/log/messages.
I tried the next hints I found in different discussions to this topic, but no
result:

1. use option noapi on grub
2. change kernel from 2.6.32-23-generic-pae to 2.6.32-23-generic
3. change compiz to metacity
4. disable KMS
5. use option noapi and nolapic on grub
6. disable irqbalance

Nothing solve the problem.

31-Jul-2010 18:45:30 [---] Received signal 15
when logging off of Ubuntu rather than just one signal 15 when things seem to
work.

In time_stats.log I get:

I assume that I need two power_off messages (due to dual core processor ?) and
only get one prior to problems.

I've also had an npviewer crash and will send a new crash file when the
next one is created (the old one is huge) - I'm using a hotplug rather
than wireless. Wireless was originally used when I installed Boinc.

[Bug 612213] [NEW] Disable Charging feature

2010-08-01 Thread Fazil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

There should be a feature to stop charging. The feature is available for
dell laptops running win 7 and vista. It helps to use laptop without
charging and using the power from AC directly. And when power fails the
laptop battery will be used. This can avoid unnecessary charging and
discharging in the laptop.

[Bug 368127] Re: ToME Crashes Randomly

2010-08-01 Thread Daniel Kessler
I found that the bug happens to be fixed in the latest bug-fix release from the
present maintainer of the 2.3.x branch of ToME. His latest source can be found
here: http://gitorious.org/tome2/tome2 and the policy for these maintainance
releases is explained here: http://forum.t-o-m-e.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=21344
This source is particularly Ubuntu-friendly in compilation (using cmake, read
building.txt that contains an Ubuntu section).
There's also a thread on the ToME game forumj about a couple of remaining
(non-gamebreaking) isues under Linux here:

[Bug 374459] Re: Acer Aspire 5738G: touchpad can be switched off, but not on again

2010-08-01 Thread Rubber Ducky
I can confirm that this does not work anymore?

I tried the fix today on Lucid Lynx x64.

Also, another strange thing is that sometimes (well, most off the time)
the light indicates that touchpad is on, but when i press the button (so
the light turns on), the bubble notifier tells me i enabled it. So, it's
the complete opposite from what it's supposed to do.

[Bug 608459] Re: X fails to come up / failed to load nvidia-kernel-module after logout

2010-08-01 Thread HugoHirsch
If I change my window manager to Gnome I am able to quit my session
properly /e.g. shutdown the PC/.

If my session is KDE and I hit the power-button the system shuts down
successfully but doesn't ask for a confirmation. So the bug seems to be
related to the running window manager (gdm) and the user-related session
that is chosen (KDE vs. Gnome).

[Bug 612214] [NEW] 2.6.35-13 Kernel oops

2010-08-01 Thread Ritz
Public bug reported:

Kernel oops in 2.6.35-6 thru 2.6.35-13 and possible before. Only Kernel
2.6.35-6, 2.6.35-12 and 2.6.35-13 is tested.
I am running:
Description:Ubuntu maverick (development branch)
Release:10.10

I don't have to do anything to trigger it. Just boot. But network
traffic tend to trigger more oopses. fx. browser or apt-get update in a
terminal.

My hardware is a eeePC 1000H. The wifi network card is changed to an
Intel 5300 Card.

I did not have problems like this in Karmic or Lucid, and I have Karmic
running on another partition on the same machine, so I guess it rules
out bad memory or other faulty hardware.

[Bug 612215] [NEW] needs-packaging

2010-08-01 Thread Raymond Medeiros
Public bug reported:

[needs-packaging] shellinabox

Shell In A Box implements a web server that can export arbitrary command
line tools to a web based terminal emulator. This emulator is accessible
to any JavaScript and CSS enabled web browser and does not require any
additional browser plugins.

URL: http://code.google.com/p/shellinabox/
License: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html
Notes: deb packages exist
   http://shellinabox.googlecode.com/files/shellinabox_2.10-1_amd64.deb
   http://shellinabox.googlecode.com/files/shellinabox_2.10-1_i386.deb
Please note that a similar package exists in the official apt
repository ajaxterm which is very out of date.
This package launches itself as a daemon on 4200 by default and
provides a tty in a web based virtual terminal,
having this available for installation via apt would be very
convenient for admin purposes.

So using

sudo apt-get -o dir::ignore-files-silently::="\.save$" update

won't complain. Those .save files seem to come from software-properties-

[Bug 379873] Re: CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor reports incorrect CPU speeds when overclocked

2010-08-01 Thread BearTM
Yes, the problem is still the same under Lucid - all latest updates:

Linux thundercat 2.6.32-24-generic #38-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 5 09:20:59 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Still the same machine and same processor ... have upgraded throughout and no
change.
 9.10 full reinstall
10.04 synaptic upgrade

CPU has been overclocked from stock 3.00GHz to 3.60GHz.
This can be confirmed through dmidecode (output attached).
cpuinfo (and related utilities) all report the stock CPU speeds instead.

This is only a visual/reporting issue. The CPU is still throttling
correctly, and the speed is correct as per the overclocking ratio.

i.e. (tested and confirmed in benchmarks & Bogomips)
Reported 2.00Ghz = (3.6/3.0 * 2.0) = 2.40GHz True Clock Speed
Reported 3.00Ghz = (3.6/3.0 * 3.0) = 3.60GHz True Clock Speed

Fully up to date BIOS, (ASUS P5Q) - BIOS options standard except for
overclock.

Output of dmidecode and cpuinfo attached.

Regards,
Robert.

[Bug 93546] Re: [upstream] Openoffice.org Address data sources missing

I am not sure that the openoffice.org bug & this one are the same issue.

In the Ubuntu OOo build I am not seeing any choices in the data source
tools for Mozilla/Netscape/Thunderbird etc.

I do not think this the same issue as not being able to read the new
address book format which came out with Thunderbird 3. I do not have any
choices to even try and connect to the Thunderbird AB.

The patch does the right thing in setting a default network when nothing
has been set already.
However i dont see why the network has to be freenode when none of gnome
channels are on freenode.
IMO /freenode/ is a distro setting, each distro should just change it to
which ever they use.

Same was done when Pidgin was default[thanks bilal], when it was the
default. The network was changed to Ubuntu for Ubuntu.

If upstream wants to do it, its nice but still weird. ;)

[Bug 258818] Re: /etc/apparmor/logprof.conf has invalid repository url

2010-08-01 Thread Bremm
Same problem in lucid using apparmor up-to-date (2.5-0ubuntu3) in
/etc/apparmor/logprof.conf

[repository]
  distro = ubuntu-intrepid
  url= http://apparmor.test.opensuse.org/backend/api
  preferred_user = ubuntu

I noticed this repo, but I don't know if it could be used in Lucid (probably
not, since it lacks some stuff to plug apparmor client).

[Bug 612207] Re: rhythmbox remove item from playlist does not work with delete key

2010-08-01 Thread Manuel R. Ciosici
I think the mere fact that it is inconsistent with the other software
makes it really be worth a fix. Add to that the fact that pressing
'Delete' to remove an item makes a lot for sense and is a lot more
intuitive.

I've seen many newcomers get frustrated at this small quirk.

[Bug 511550] Re: Print quality degraded when printing from a Mac onto a CUPS server under Ubuntu

2010-08-01 Thread Eric B
OK. I'll upgrade to Mac OS X snow leopard first. Perhaps this will
upgrade CUPS to a version that sends the right thing.

If not, I'll do as you suggest.

In the meanwhile, would there be a quick'n'dirty fix that maps one MIME
type to the other on the Linux side?

And in any case, thanks for your kind help and attention.
