[Bug 608058] [NEW] Boinc fails to start projects in Lucid

2010-07-21 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: boinc

This problem occurs occasionally (approximately once every 20 boots). I am
normally attached to at least 7 projects )including SETi, rosetta, malaria. No
projects start and none are displayed under the project tab. If I reboot the
projects will again be displayed and working. I'm also running conky at
start-up and this confirms no projects run when the problem occurs. In
xsession-errors I get

create the alarm notify service factory, maybe it's already running…

[Bug 578281] Re: Add search plugin for Baidu

2010-07-21 Thread Yuan Yijun
I can find many users write blogs about Linux on their baidu space. Many
people use baidu when google is not available, which happens frequently.
And baidu afterall does provide useful search results, adding this is a
good thing. Since "default choice" brings real money, it should be
discussed elsewhere.

[Bug 608061] [NEW] Please sync tremulous 1.1.0-5 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib).

2010-07-21 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/tremulous
 status new
 importance wishlist
 subscribe ubuntu-sponsors

Please sync tremulous 1.1.0-5 (multiverse) from Debian unstable
(contrib).

We can sync this package as previous version was a rebuild

Changelog since current maverick version 1.1.0-4.1build1:

tremulous (1.1.0-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * New maintainer - Debian Games Team
  * Set source format to 3.0 (quilt)
  * Separate out patches from previous versions into debian/patches
  * Replace the patch for Bug #382121 with a more complete upstream fix
from ioquake3 bug 3756, which just uses the OS's memcpy()
  * Apply patch from ioquake3 bug 4331 to fix invalid use of strcpy
(Closes: #583939)
  * Fix tremulous --help and tremulous-server --help (Closes: #566530)
  * Remove bashisms from those script wrappers (Closes: #530209, #530210)
  * Set dedicated cvar to 1 by default, to not advertise unconfigured servers
to the master server; use "+set dedicated 2" to advertise your server
(Closes: 485579)
  * Apply part of upstream r785 to fix disappearing cursor on errors
(Closes: #473848)
  * Apply part of upstream r756 to fix sorting by ping, and install the
modified menu to override the one in tremulous-data (Closes: #476621)
  * Disable JIT QVM compiler (which seems to crash on startup) on x86-64,
falling back to the architecture-neutral QVM interpreter
  * Improve the tremulous-server init script (Closes: #469576):
- stop the process correctly
- disable the tremulous-server init script by default - enable it in
  /etc/default/tremulous-server if you want a system-wide instance
- run tremded under a dedicated user ID, not as nobody (which shouldn't be
  used like this)
- give that dedicated user ID a home directory, since Tremulous needs one
  * Fix sections in menu and doc-base
  * Add ${misc:Depends}
  * Advance to Debhelper 7 compatibility
  * Fix section of tremulous-doc
  * Fix hyphen/minus confusion in man pages
  * Fail prerm on errors
  * Stop creating empty directories
  * Correct .desktop categories, and remove obsolete Encoding key
  * Standards-Version: 3.9.0
- state in copyright that the package is not in Debian, due to non-free
  dependency
- known violation: embedded copy of libjpeg (reported as a bug)

[Bug 588530] Re: Automounting not prevented with GParted in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-21 Thread Colin Watson
Martin reckoned that on current Ubuntu, only udisks is running by
default, while on current Kubuntu, only hal is running by default - but
it's conceivable that somebody might end up with both the udisks and hal
daemons running due to installing additional packages. At least, so I
understand it.

[Bug 608011] Re: errors in syncdaemon.log

2010-07-21 Thread Mitch Towner
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One is not working properly for you. If you
would like to help debug the problem that would be greatly appreciated.
You can do the following in order to provide important details that will
help determine the root cause of this issue.

1) Quit the Ubuntu One client. Open Applications->Accessories->Terminal, then
run the command:
u1sdtool -q

2) Run the following in the Terminal:
mv ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log_old && mkdir
~/.cache/ubuntuone/log

3) Run the following in the Terminal to open/create this file:
gedit ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf

#Add the following two (2) lines to this file and save:
[logging]
level = DEBUG

4) Run the following in the Terminal to start the ubuntu one deamon/service:
u1sdtool -c

5) Let Ubuntu One run for a while, copy some files into your Ubuntu One Folder.
Then attach your ubuntuone logs to this bug. Please zip your
$HOME/.cache/ubuntuone/log/ folder and attach the zip here.

You can attach logs to this bug report by clicking the 'Add Attachment
or patch' button at the bottom of the page. Thank you for filing this
bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 484855] Re: OpenOffice can't open files on WebDAV share

2010-07-21 Thread rothchild
I'm having this issue with Lucid too.
Not sure what the server setup is (because it belongs to work). As noted it
only seems to be files opening with OpenOffice, other files (such as .jpg) open
fine.

As a workaround I can copy the files to my local machine, edit and copy
back but it's not ideal.

[Bug 608080] [NEW] ax25-tools need old-style pty

2010-07-21 Thread ziotibia81
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ax25-tools

Current version of ax25-tools (0.0.8-13.1ubuntu1) need old-style pty to work in
particullary configuration.
On Ubuntu Lucid old-style pty are default disabled so is necessary to add
something like pty.legacy_count=15 on grub kernel parameters.

Installation script has to add utomatically this parameter or, best
thing, ax25-tools need to be updated to latest versione so it could use
Unix98 pty.

Last release of ax25-tools could be found here:

[Bug 608074] [NEW] Memory leak while browsing photos

2010-07-21 Thread Ken VanDine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: shotwell

While watching memory use (both virtual and RSS), I noticed memory usage
grows while browsing and never freed.

Steps to reproduce (while watching memory use):
 1) Open shotwell
 2) Select an event and double click a photo
 3) Use arrows keys to navigate photos

In my case, launching shotwell initally used 361M virt and 36M RSS,
after about 10 minutes of use it was up to 490M virt and 128M RSS.
Watching the growth, both grew slowly as switching photos, but not on
each photo. One thing to note, there is an error displayed in the
console, not sure if it is related:

Warning: Directory OlympusCs, entry 0x0101: Strip 0 is outside of the data
area; ignored.
Warning: Invalid JPEG preview image.

That was repeated many times, but not sure if it happened exactly when
memory consumption grew.

[Bug 540490] Re: liferea should be added to the indicator applet

2010-07-21 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package liferea - 1.6.3-1ubuntu3

---
liferea (1.6.3-1ubuntu3) maverick; urgency=low

  * Added libindicate.patch: messaging indicator support. (LP: #540490)
  * debian/control:
- Depend on libindicate-dev, automake and libtool.
  * debian/rules:
- Run autogen.sh to regenerate build system for indicator support files.
- Run configure in --disable-maintainer-mode.
- Unquote -Wl,--as-needed in LDFLAGS.

  [Ken VanDine]
  * debian/control
- Specify version libindicate build depends (>= 0.3.0)
- change build depends for automake and libtool to dh-autoreconf
  * debian/rules
- explicitly enable libindicate with configure to avoid accidentally
  getting builds without libindicate support
- use dh_autoreconf instead of running autogen.sh
  * debian/liferea.install debian/liferea.indicate
- Install a launcher to appear in the messaging menu

[Bug 607714] Re: UbuntuOne Sync applet causes high processor/hdd load and crashes on disconnection

2010-07-21 Thread Mitch Towner
I'm sorry to hear Ubuntu One isn't working properly for you. I noticed
that your read & write limit are both set to "0". Can you please try the
following and let me know the results?

1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
2. Delete the file: ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
(If using Nautilus, make sure you do a Ctrl-H to view hidden files when in
your home directory)
or you can use the Terminal command:
rm ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
3. Start the Ubuntu One client
4. Let Ubuntu One run for a while to see if this resolves your issue

Thanks in advance!

[Bug 280490] Re: Virgin Australia Broadband 3G cannot connect in Intrepid Beta

2010-07-21 Thread cuvy
As per my post here (http://urbanoia.net/?p=509), I have found that the
APN "virgininternet" works for me. Note that when using 3G data on my
phone, sometimes the 3G data access point is displayed as "Virgin
Internet", and other times it is displayed as "Virgin Broadband" or
"Virgin Streaming". Perhaps it depends on the cell tower i am connected
to?

I have been unable to get tethering working via the network manager,
instead i use manual binding and wvdial.

When I open "Network Connections", there is a "Mobile Broadband" tab,
which appears to have all the relevant settings, however there is no way
that I can see to activate this - not available from the bluetooth
applet or network applet.

Details of my system:
Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook edition
Asus Eee PC 1201pn
Nokia 5800 software ver 50.0.005

[Bug 608085] [NEW] Buffer overflow when opening mail with calendar.vcf tnef attachment

2010-07-21 Thread Anze Zagar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, Evolution 2.28.3-0ubuntu10

After accepting an appointment invitation in Outlook 2007 MS Exchange
client, moving it to another IMAP account and then opening it from there
with Evolution, I get a buffer overflow and Evolution crashes. Error
obviously occurs in tnef plugin (libytnef.so.0 of libytnef0-1.5-2 in
particular). It does not occur if I remove evolution-plugins-
experimental-2.28.3-0ubuntu10. Evolution 2.30 (from ppa:jacob/evo230)
does not resolve this issue either.

[Bug 607783] Re: [arrandale] VGA port not working on Dell Latitude E6510

2010-07-21 Thread Geir Ove Myhr
Chris, good to see that this is on your radar. I wasn't aware that you
were also following Ubuntu bug reports. I was simply hoping that the
kernel triagers would know better how to extract some useful information
about the black screen (which takes down the ssh connection) before
forwarding it upstream to you guys.

[Bug 555408] Re: Shotwell makes USB mouse flaky

2010-07-21 Thread Stephen O
Thanks Adam, I appreciate the responsiveness and, as a developer myself,
understand the difficulty in tracking down something you can't
reproduce. This is the trackball: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-
Expert-Optical-
Trackball-64325/dp/B9KH63/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1279698338&sr=8-1

- Does it happen all the time when Shotwell is running or just when you have a
camera plugged in?
All the time, starts as soon as the program loads.

- Does it also happen if you try it with another USB mouse? (if you have access
to another one that is)
Tried with a logitech cordless trackball and did not see the issue

- Does the mouse return to normal when you turn off Shotwell?
Yes, immediately.

- What version of Ubuntu do you have?
10.04

- What version of Shotwell do you have?
0.6.1

- Do you use some kind of external USB hub or is the mouse connected to an USB
slot in the computer?
Plugged directly into the computer, rear USB port.

- Does it also happen if you try connecting the mouse to another USB port?
(i.e. directly to the computer if you have one of those external USB hubs)
Tried a front USB port and one of the ports on my monitor, same behavior.

That'd require some more intrusive code changes, and also be a bit
contradictory to the current configuration structure. Before I do
those I'd like to get an answer from Richard what he thinks about the
change in general.

[Bug 601113] Re: Dell Latitude E6410 Touchpad - Not all functions working; detected as PS/2 mouse

2010-07-21 Thread Tim Wahrendorff
have you tried to change any setting?

Because here is no difference in touchpad behaviour before and after the
patch. Tapping worked before and only the tabs in Mouse are shown now
(but it takes no effect to change settings there) and gsynaptics starts
now (again, no effects when changing settings...)

btw.:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=6d327cb03fbc64cac36571c9bc8a1576d2b3ea00

"[...] the magic knock does not work for this model of the touchpad and the
device stays in PS/2 compatibility mode."

I think we just have to wait for a fix from the alps driver guys...

[Bug 588530] Re: Automounting not prevented with GParted in Ubuntu 10.04

2010-07-21 Thread Martin Pitt
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gparted

While running GParted using the Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD, automounting of
partitions is not prevented. This can result in gparted failing to
  complete partition editing actions successfully.

The root cause of the problem is that Ubuntu 10.04 now uses udisks, and
  not just hal.

A patch for this problem has been committed to the upstream git repository.
For the relevant commit, please refer to the following link:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gparted/commit/?id=4168794e8e80d2d6457d87f33983cee2d836f527

This problem with Ubuntu 10.04 was first reported by upstream in the
following bug report:
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=324220#c62
+
+ SRU Test Case:
+ - Insert an USB stick and ensure that it gets automounted (output in "mount"
and nautilus window popping up)
+ - Start gparted
+ - Insert an USB stick and check that it does not get automounted (does not
appear in /media and "mount" output). With the current lucid package it does
get automounted, which interferes with gparted.

[Bug 231706] Re: munin apache plugin no data

2010-07-21 Thread Marcus Bointon
This still happens on Lucid, but there's a less complicated fix for
this. The status moule is normally enabled with `a2enmod status`. All
that seems to be required to fix munin after that is to add
'ExtendedStatus On' to /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/status.conf so it looks
like this:

#
# Allow server status reports generated by mod_status,
# with the URL of http://servername/server-status
# Uncomment and change the ".example.com" to allow
# access from other hosts.
#
ExtendedStatus On

SetHandler server-status
Order deny,allow
Deny from all
Allow from localhost ip6-localhost
#Allow from .example.com

After doing that both the apache_accesses and apache_volume plugins
started working for me.

Having the daemons running is not a problem, but the case where this
fails would be that you are running Kubuntu (which uses hal for
automounting), have udisks installed, and start gparted. Admittedly
this is not a very common scenario, but it's easy to fix this case as
well by locking both hal and udisks.

Curtis, would you mind committing something like in comment 8?

Two fresh installs of Lucid - one Desktop and one Netbook Remix.

"Are you sure you want to etc etc..." and then nothing happens.
Disable quickstart, everything's back to normal.

[Bug 294123] Re: 2.6.27 SATA drives not accessible at boot time, 2.6.24 working

2010-07-21 Thread mklemm
Problem persists for Lucid, see updated description above

** Tags added: 10.04 2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22-server jaunty karmic
lucid

** Description changed:

  System info:

  Hardware:
  Mainboard MSI 965P Neo2, Intel 965 chipset, ICH8 southbridge, chipset 82801H,
One SATA Samsung Harddisk 300GB, One SATA optical drive, both connected to the
chipset's SATA channels 3 and 4 (behaviour is unchanged if connected to
channels 1 and 2).
SATA is running in IDE mode, AHCI mode is not supported by the hardware.

  Software:
Affects all kernel versions from version 2.6.26 to 2.6.28-13-generic and
(untested) maybe later versions also
Doesn't affect kernel version 2.6.24-19-generic, Ubuntu 8.04 or ubuntu 8.10,
vanilla 2.6.25, or earlier versions

  Symptoms:
Booting ubuntu 8.10 with the included kernel 2.6.27-7-generic from either the
live CD or as a system on disk upgraded via apt-get dist-upgrade stops at the
point where the root partition is to be mounted. The BusyBox initramfs shell
prompt appears after a timeout period, and when listing the "/dev" directory I
can see that it doesn't contain any disk related device nodes, even the
"dev/disk" directory is missing.
The output of dmesg is showing that all four SATA channels are correctly
recognised and initialised, but they all show a message
"SATA link down", just as if no disk was connected to them. There are no
further SATA/ATA related error messages in the dmesg output.

  Reproducibility:
Booting the same system with a still-installed 2.6.24-19 from Ubuntu 8.04
works without any problems. The dmesg output is mostly the same as with 2.6.27,
the only notable difference is that instead of the message "ata3: SATA link
down" and "ata4: SATA link down" it now show the correct initialisation
messages for my drives in the same place in the dmesg output.

  Reproducibility UPDATE:
Issue persists for Ubuntu 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28-13-generic, either
precompiled version or locally compiled.

  Reproducibility UPDATE #2:
Ussue also persists for Ubuntu 9.10 beta with kernel 2.6.31-14

+ Reproducibility UPDATE #3:
+ Issue persists for Ubuntu 10.04 with kernel 2.6.32-22-server
+
Manually trying to load the sd_mod module from the initramfs prompt didn't
bring the missing device nodes into existence either.
Connecting a USB flash memory storage device and mounting it in the BusyBox
initramfs shell works, however (in which case the necessary USB-disk-related
device node is created automatically under /dev), and this way I was able to
capture the dmesg output and attach it below.

  The attached files are:
1: The output of lspci to further specify my hardware configuration
2: The output of dmesg from the initramfs shell of kernel 2.6.27
3: As a comparison the output of dmesg from the working kernel 2.6.24 setup

[Bug 294123] Re: 2.6.27 SATA drives not accessible at boot time, 2.6.24 working

2010-07-21 Thread mklemm
Seems that the reset issued by the driver on init somehow "disconnects" the
