[Bug 561802] Re: [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410
Another temporary workaround is simply to fall back to the VESA driver which works with every video card, but disables acceleration. i. If you cannot install Ubuntu, use the alternate install cd ii.a. If you cannot boot into the installed Ubuntu system without getting a blank screen, use the recovery mode (which is chosen in grub after holding down the shift key during boot) but edit ('e') the kernel parameters, adding i915.blacklist=true to the end. Then boot (Ctrl-X) ii.b. Another way to get it to boot is to use a live cd, like RescueCD (http://www.sysresccd.org/Main_Page), mount the hard drive and edit boot/grub/grub.cfg manually 1. Edit the file /etc/default/grub to read GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="i915.blacklist=true" 2. Run update-grub 3. Create a file named /usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf (which doesn't normally exist in Ubuntu) and write in it: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "vesa" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Monitor "Configured Monitor" Device "Configured Video Device" EndSection (this text is included in Ubuntu under the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.failsafe though it is not used) -- [lucid] [i915] blank screen on Latitude E6410 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/561802 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 606595] [NEW] Unity crashes on startup with rs690m
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity On my Gateway LT31u (Radeon X1250, a.k.a. rs690m), unity crashes on startup. I installed amd64 Ubuntu Desktop Maverick Alpha 2 and then the "ubuntu-netbook" package. Everything is dist-upgraded. When I try to log in, the top-left quarter of the screen gets a white box which disappears soon after; then the background, top panel and left panel appear. (The clock and indicator applets are present.) After about half a second, the panels disappear and the whole thing repeats. The crash occurs in the "mutter" process. I get different crashes depending on whether KMS is enabled. (I usually disable KMS because otherwise compiz's wobbly windows cause a crash and https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27529 causes me grief; but those are bugs for another day.) Perhaps related to Bug #596292 I've tried putting "AccelMethod" "XAA" and "AccelDFS" "off" into my xorg.conf; they don't change anything. I've also tried "DRI" "off", but that just prevents mutter from running entirely. [Bug 125264] Re: Sound broken after resume of Suspend - Toshiba P100
Is this still occurring in Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx"? This issue might be fixed upstream in kernel 2.6.35-rc5. >From the changelog: commit ac0547dc62e67a3e0b0c1628b6e49efba8f517db Author: Takashi Iwai Date: Mon Jul 5 16:50:13 2010 +0200 ALSA: hda - Restore cleared pin controls on resume Many codecs now clear the pin controls at suspend via snd_hda_shutup_pins() for reducing the click noise at power-off. But this leaves some pins uninitialized, and they'll be never recovered after resume. This patch adds the proper recovery of cleared pin controls on resume. Also it adds a check of bus->shutdown so that pins won't be cleared at module unloading. [Bug 606602] [NEW] openoffice writer crashes compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org-writer Ubuntu 10.04 openoffice.org-writer 1:3.2.0-7ubuntu4.1 Writer should display the content of a footnote when the mouse is hovering over its superscripted number in the main text. When doing so, it does however not break lines. Once a footnote gets very long (around 140 words) compiz crashes whenever I move the mouse over its superscripted number. Steps to reproduce: Have compiz running. Create a very long footnote that won't fit on the screen in one line. Move mouse over its superscripted number. Re: [Bug 587272] Re: gajim doesn't have indicator support
Me giving up means that I'm now facing too much difficulties to make this proper for Ubuntu official release, starting with the fact that I'm no Indicator user/fan and that I'm really lacking time. But the preliminaries (working indicator) are available on my _personnal_ PPA, based on the patch provided here. So, I don't think this would be in the next release(s) (unless someone more capable and motivated stands up quickly), but it is on my PPA, which you could use easly. Perhaps things would change when a new release of gajim happen and get packaged... You say you couldn't replace me, but what you could try is find someone that could ;-) this is the key of all that stuff since the patch looks (AFAICT) nice. -- gajim doesn't have indicator support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587272 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 220696] Re: Connection to SSH via file browser disconnects
Lucid. For me it doesn't crash, it just freezes. 1. Open nautilus ssh, click some remote files to open in gedit. 2. Hibernate, wake up. 3. Try to edit one of the remote files opened in gedit. -> gedit freeze. Solution (for now): 4. In Nautilus, unmount the ssh connection. (and copy the location before doing it!) -> gedit becomes responsive again. Now you can choose one of two solutions: 5a. edit and save a file in gedit (just add a space and delete it again) -> gedit will ask for a password, and reconnect. I can continue my work, yeah. 5b. Ctrl-l in Nautilus, paste the ssh location from clipboard, go. -> Nautilus will ask for a password, and reconnect. I can continue my work, yeah. -- This is still better than what I remember from Windows (with WinSCP and putty), but still far from ideal.
