I also receive this error when trying to use the latest Karmic and Lucid sparc netboot images. [Bug 189517] Re: Open/save file dialog places wrong
As Curtis explained: the default save location is the home directory of the user 'root' (because GParted is run as root), and the problem of the original reporter seems to be that he doesn't know how to navigate to that directory (which is not his fault, as it's not obvious for somebody new too Ubuntu/linux). The real solution for such problems is not running GParted as root, but that would require a complete redesign of GParted... Curtis: maybe offering to open the HTML page in the default browser could be useful too? (Or maybe we can save the log to /var/log/* by default?) ** Changed in: gparted (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- Open/save file dialog places wrong https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/189517 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 522979] [NEW] openoffice filemenu fonts not system's
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: openoffice.org Lucid, Alpha-2, 64-bit, 16 Feb 2010: The file menu fonts of OpenOffice.org are "tinny" when compared to the regular system file menu fonts. Attached is a representative comparison between the System menus and the OpenOffice.org menus. This appears to be localized to just OpenOffice.org. [Bug 317855] Re: "Shut Down the Computer"-window spawns behind active window
This is still an issue in Karmic, as of today. It's definitely low priority, as I haven't researched it for over a year, but it is annoying. Unfortunately, it's not something that I can reproduce reliably. That's why it's so low priority ... because it only happens between 50 and 75 percent of the time. Further note: have only noticed it when I push the power button on my laptop. That is, the window usually pops up in response to me pushing the power button. When it doesn't, I have to hunt for it's flashing taskbar icon so that I can shut down or suspend my computer. -- "Shut Down the Computer"-window spawns behind active window https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317855 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 521827] Re: SCSI Epson GT 7000 Scanner Does Not Work
Sure thing! 1. Download the Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 2 32-bit .iso file to your home folder (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/lucid- desktop-i386.iso) 2. Open the Terminal and run 'md5sum lucid-desktop-i386.iso' 3. Wait for the output, which will look like random letters and numbers 4. Compare that output to the one listed for lucid-desktop-i386 (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/alpha-2/MD5SUMS) 5. If the output matches the listing on that site, then burn lucid- desktop-i386.iso to a blank CD (just insert the blank CD, right-click the lucid-desktop-i386.iso file and select "Write to disc" and make sure it burns to the CD) 6. After the download has finished, restart your computer with the CD still in the CD drive 7. When the Live CD menu comes up, select "Try Ubuntu without making changes to your system" 8. Ubuntu will load into a new default setup 9. Try your scanner (the libraries should be installed by default) 10. After you are done, simply shutdown your computer, remove the disc, then boot back into Ubuntu 9.10 11. [Bug 518873] Re: gnome-panel fails to start when desktop loads
@itsjustarumour That's great to hear! I checked the changelogs, and there have indeed been some changes to help prevent crashing, however there is no way to know for sure whether these fixes have solved the problem you were previously experiencing since we don't know the exact conditions that created the bug in the first place. Because of that, I'm hesitant to have this bug marked as 'Fix Released' but I will consult with some others who specialize in GNOME within the next few days. In the mean time, just feel free to let us know if anything changes. [Bug 107540] Re: Audigy sound card produces no sound
I have the same problem as described in the original report except that I must enable (unmute) the "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" switch to get any sound out of the analog 3.5" jacks I have my surround speaker system plugged in to. I believe that I have had this problem ever since I bought this Audigy card, but since I determined the fix experimentally years ago and the libasound state was preserved, I didn't remember until I tried a Karmic Live CD recently. I've been quite impressed with the integration of sound preferences and mixer controls in Karmic that hide all distinctions between Pulseaudio, ALSA, kernel, and userspace behind an easy to use GUI. When I boot a Live CD, I can completely control both the motherboard sound device and the Audigy card using the standard volume control and preferences, but I get absolutely no sound out of the Audigy until I run alsamixer in a terminal and unmute its "Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack" control. Since this is clearly a device-specific problem, but is related to userspace configuration, I'm not sure if it should be classified as a kernel bug or not. -- Audigy sound card produces no sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/107540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 522996] [NEW] Keys get stuck on Dell Studio 1535
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I have a Dell Studio 1535 and I have problems with the keyboard. I've used Jaunty and now using Karmic, but I'm still experiencing problems. Sometimes when I type, a key randomly gets "stuck" and repeats, until I press a key again (it doesn't matter if I press the same key or any other key). I've also used Kubuntu and experienced the same there too. It's very hard to reproduce because it's random. I've also tried Windows Vista and Windows 7, but there were no issues there. [Bug 403408] Re: Grub 2 problem, error: no such device
It affected my old emachine that has a replaced drive that was running XP before the partition and installation attempt. This is the first emachine, a 900 Mhz screamer. I tried to install over and it wanted to add an additional ubuntu 9.1 installation. Another oddity is that when it allocated itself hard disk space, it left 20% or so as free space, not belonging to either the previously installed XP or the new Ubuntu 9.1 . So then I had XP, Ubuntu, Swap space, and free space on the partitioning screen, and it said that I had several OS's ? I don't know if it was counting the free space or the swap space as an operating system. I chose the manual (advanced) partition and played around and deleted the ubuntu and swap partitions turning them into free space so that I could repeat the installation without creating multiple installations of ubuntu 9.1 but then it said I had not indicated some sort of boot info. Also, it told me to create a swap partition which I figured out how to do. I chose the ubuntu partition and made it primary. That solved the boot objection. Then I had to choose a mount point for the drives. I guessed dos for the windows and / for the ubuntu. It did not work. I am surprised that this error occurs. The file systems are well known and rather simple. However, the windows is booting now, it did not at first. Imagine, after all the hype, after sending to England to get authentic ubuntu 9.1 disks, it comes with a bug, and not only does not install, it disables the working XP operating system. What a time waster. They should change the name from Ubuntu to .
