[Bug 438244] Re: ubuntu-xsplash-artwork contains redundant graphics
This seems to break xsplash for 1024x768 ( 1.3_ ) - and other aspects that don't match 2560x1600 (1.6 ). Also this causes a wasteful amount of memory to be used during the processing of the image. I noticed this on my netbook, and then found this discussion here that seems to be the cause. It would be best to expose options passed to xsplash for custom theming. That way we won't be forced into dealing with your hacks. If you really wanted to fix your live cd problem ship a solid color background with a variable logo and trobber, and let people customize their machine as they see fit. I just want to use a 1024x768 image for my xsplash on my tablet without having to alter xsplash source or make a hacked up 2560x1600 bg image as I'm unable to find a way to pass options into xsplash via a config file anywhere. I made my xsplash theme by replacing files in /usr/share/images/xsplash, since there is support for theming as yet. -- ubuntu-xsplash-artwork contains redundant graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/438244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 483464] [NEW] Bad graphics modes.
Public bug reported: Here is my previous unsolved bug about the problem: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- openchrome/+bug/350330 Now I have some more information about it: xrandr shows graphics modes that are not available for my LCD matrixs (i.e matrix is up to 1024x768 , xrandr shows few modes upper than it, i.e. 1920x1440) I think ubuntu get's the highest mode by default ( IN: instalator , usplash , gdm login manager , gdm user session) Instalator: I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 seeing only upper left part of the screen (1024x768 from 1920x1440) by clicking ENTER as "next" button. usplash : I've changed /etc/usplash.conf to 1024x768 , add vga=791 to grub.conf , and made sudo update-initramfs gdm user session: I've used change resolution tool to make it 1024x768 gdm login manager: it's still 1920x1440 So, now when booting, first i can see white ubuntu logo i good resolution , then I see this brown progress screen and login manager in 1920x1440, after provide login and password it's going to proper 1024x768 (brown progress and desktop) 1) After CTRL+ALT+F1 (F2 etc) i have screen with artefacts (lines in different colors) , i'm sure its bad video mode. 2) Once CTRL+ALT+F1 got me into proper text mode, but only once and I dont know why. 3) Video card (after lspci) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. And xauth is installed, when I connect (the first time or after removing .Xauthority) I get: /usr/bin/X11/xauth: creating new authority file /home/admin/.Xauthority The Display variable is OK: $ echo $DISPLAY localhost:10.0 The port 6010 is listening (I guess this maps to X display #10): $ netstat -pan |grep 6010 (Not all processes could be identified, non-owned process info will not be shown, you would have to be root to see it all.) tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:6010 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN - tcp6 0 0 ::1:6010:::*LISTEN - I can even connect manually to port 6010: OOOPps! I got it! I could do telnet 127.0.0.1 6010 BUT NOT telnet localhost 6010... The problem was my /etc/hosts!!! It was: 127.0.1.1 madcvd01lnx.rfranco.com localhost madcvd01lnx Now I have fixed it to: 127.0.0.1 madcvd01lnx.rfranco.com localhost madcvd01lnx And gedit starts up correctly. What does 127.0.1.1 mean anyway? (I think that value was there in the defaul config for /etc/hosts) Does it have a reason or is it just an errata? [Bug 374900] Re: Libfaac not LGPL
This is complete and utter nonesense. The referred code needs to be re- instigated immediately. If the alleged IP owners ask for it to be removed then it should be.. otherwise, why is it being pre-emptively censored and on who's authority? Even if patent/copyright exists - there are hundreds of implementations of this particular code in numerous open source applications. The supposed owners have made no recorded attempt to restrict use of AAC and other codecs for the last 12 years. In addition, the MP3 and AAC codecs pre-date the statement by a considerable time. All very mysterious Anyone can claim they own the copyright to some code - have they provided proof which has been independently validated? Either way, this appears an obvious attempt to cripple ubuntu and devalue Linux as a tool for media transcoding... An investigation of who is behind these claims would be interesting... -- Libfaac not LGPL https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/374900 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My problem is very similar to the original report of this bug. The web page that usually causes this is www.manager.co.th. This page contains some flash animation. Hi all, we have two problems here. 1* Network Manager bug with recognice UMTS device - still does not work and 2* nozomi bug: ppp do not get IP even if I try to use gcom for registration (this step working fine) and wvdial (but this step fail). i get the same result as Franz Dietzmann wrote on 2009-10-06 Nov 15 21:45:49 hafalump pppd[25707]: pppd 2.4.5 started by root, uid 0 Nov 15 21:45:49 hafalump pppd[25707]: Using interface ppp0 Nov 15 21:45:49 hafalump pppd[25707]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/noz0 Nov 15 21:46:19 hafalump pppd[25707]: LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests Nov 15 21:46:19 hafalump pppd[25707]: Connection terminated. [Bug 424655] Re: Pulse audio memory leak
I seem to have a milder version of this. I'll attach an htop screenshot showing pulseaudio to use about 2 gigs overall and 1 gig resident memory after about three and a half days uptime. It's usually half that much after a day I'd say, whether I use audio or not. Perhaps this is a different issue but I've found no other bug report on this so far. Is there an upstream report BTW or is this thought to be caused by Ubuntu- specific patches? I'll post the PA stats corresponding to the htop output below. I resist having run PA in valgrind for a significant amount of time as this might be required since the leak doesn't seem as large for me as for many others. I'll do it though if required but the other valgrind logs don't seem to have done any good so far so please let me know. $ pactl stat Currently in use: 3 blocks containing 158.3 KiB bytes total. [Bug 199682] Re: Asus F5N laptop Special keys not working with asus-laptop kernel module
SirFrankie, my deepest apologies for confusion with attached patch. The path to LEDs has indeed changed from asus-laptop to asus_laptop when upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10. Fn+F2 was working out of the box when performing clean 9.10 install. The original patch I posted here was only to make Network Manager to turn wireless LED on and off upon network connection and disconnect. It is not meant to fix any of the special keys and is a rough fix anyway as wireless LED is supposed to blink to indicate wireless activity. I used to run asus_acpi daemon as normal user prior to 9.10 in order to get the keys working. Now that we can see some progress with standard acpid I would look into /etc/acpi/events directory to configure hot keys the right way. For now, I am correcting the original LEDs patch and is going to fix Touchpad button and post the fix here. Special keys like Power Profile, Fn+C, Fn+V and Fn+T are more or less a matter of personal preference so please feel free to contact me directly if you need help configuring them one way or another. It would be nice if we could agree on what the defaults for those keys should be as well. Please note that the hot keys are now all being translated to key codes reported by showkey command, and as such should be configurable with System->Preferences->Shortcuts menu, with Touchpad button being obvious exception. The default key codes reported by "sudo showkey -k" command and corresponding keysyms reported by xev command are listed below. Thanks, Matt. As the problem is easily reproducible here on my system, would it add any value if I could somehow trace the behaviour here? As said, judging from the log files alone doesn't give many clues to what happens or more precisely why it fails (unless there is some debug option that I have overlooked). [Bug 416294] Re: VLC crashes if cairo-dock is installed in karmic alpha 4
thanks for your explanations ! It's more tricky than I thought ^_^ So if I understood correctly, using RGBA visuals for video widgets make them fail, so the solution would be to allow to create specifically RGB widgets, which is not possible at the moment because Qt decides by itself if the visual will be RGB or RGBA. It would explain why Mplayer and Totem works correctly with Cairo-Dock, and also all Qt applications which don't use video like Kate or Konsole, but not VLC or Smplayer. but then each application should use this new function (or add this new parameter when creating their widget), so we have to report the bug on every Qt applications which use video. Do your patch (putenv( "XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1" );) have the same effect as asking Qt to use an RGB visual for the widget ? Would it be applicable for all the impacted applications ? -- VLC crashes if cairo-dock is installed in karmic alpha 4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416294 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
