[Bug 443292] Re: sync, merges and FFe's need for getting maven built

2009-10-23 Thread Thierry Carrez
@Martin:
Matthias is still missing two pieces of information to make the good choice on
commons-cli:
1/ Does eucalyptus show any regression when run with commons-cli 1.2 rather
than 1.1 ? (upstream analysis in progress, our testing reports its OK)
2/ Does maven work well enough with 1.1 ? (it builds, does it run ?)

If eucalyptus doesn't regress AND maven is unusable without 1.2, then we should
consider moving to 1.2
IMO for any other combination we should just keep 1.1.

[Bug 380971] Re: lame 3.98 unable to decode pcm_u8 through ffmpeg 3.97 able to ...

2009-10-23 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 436625] Re: [karmic] No 32x32 places icons in Humanity icon theme

2009-10-23 Thread mac_v
 Jaroslav Šmíd ,
You do realize that the very first comment was from a member of the team asking
for a screenshot. The incomplete bug report is the cause of the delay. Hence it
has gone past the artwork deadline for Karmic.
As for "my laziness" , i did check before requesting the screenshot . In my
hardware the blurriness is not present.

And to fix a bug for a reporter who doesnt provide information as requested or
does not maintain the CoC , would not be the ideal way to spend our spare time.
Being polite on bug reports [or in general, in life] will help you get things
done quicker. Your attitude is evident in your xsplash report and the blog page
you have linked in the bug report.

In future while reporting bugs , to maintain a respectful atmosphere,
please follow the code of conduct -
http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct/ . Bug reports are handled by
humans, the majority of whom are volunteers, so kindly bear this in
mind. Thanks!

IMO, if 2 is true, we shouldn't even bother spending time to test 1.

[Bug 441825] Re: Acer Aspire One: OSD for brightness keys not working properly

2009-10-23 Thread Martin Pitt
Right, that shows it: It first tries the XBACKLIGHT extension:

TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c
FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_setup_display,170
 - No outputs have backlight property
TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-xrandr.c
FN:gpm_brightness_xrandr_init,718
 - no XRANDR extension, so aborting init

but apparently your video driver doesn't support that. What video card
do you have?

g-p-m falls back to hal when xrandr doesn't work, but hal does not see
any panel either:

TI:17:40:53 TH:0x840f168FI:gpm-brightness-hal.c
FN:gpm_brightness_hal_init,462
 - No devices of capability laptop_panel

So apparently your brightness keys are hardwired, so that they work
without the operating system's support. But without detecting the
backlight device, g-p-m is unable to determine the current brightness
level and give a notification for it.

program 'install-info' was not run from '/usr/sbin'
but from '/usr/local/texlive/2008/bin/i386-linux/'
which was in my PATH before '/usr/sbin.'
After tweaking the PATH all works well.

Hint: Give the full path in the pre and post install scripts.

I take it this bug must not be widespread... Still does anyone have any
suggestions? Would it be safe to just backup libGL.so and then try

[Bug 450826] Re: Screen flickering and keyboard issues

2009-10-23 Thread Ludwin Janvier
We are missing a lot of information : use the following command to
complete this report :

apport-collect 450826

there's no easy way to revert back to jaunty. your options are :
- waiting the official release (6 days plus a few day to find an available
server) , hoping the bug has been fired (this won't fix if it's an update bug -
which I don't know)
- backup your data (including the packages installed list, and the /etc/
directory), format your hard drive(s) and reinstall jaunty.

[Bug 285392] Re: Softreset failed (device not ready)

2009-10-23 Thread Jalsot
Hello,
I had changed my motherboard (my old one had failed) to Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-UD2H
(BIOS F8) and started to get these lockup problems. I see this issue is in
Fixed state, could anybody show the solution?
It is very annoying that I cannot use the system for some minutes.
I was thinking about the upgrade to Karmic RC, but as I've read, it has the
same issue so probably I won't risk the upgrade yet.

[Bug 408654] Re: [karmic][nvidia] Suspend no longer works

2009-10-23 Thread norfcran
I have made a fresh installation of 9.10 (AMD64) with all available
updates, on 20.10.2009 and this issue is still present. My experience is
that suspend works from GDM, but when I log in into a Gnome session,
suspend fails with the described behavior. I tried almost all scenarios
with and without nVidia driver (currently 185.18.36).

[Bug 458846] [NEW] apparmor prevents firefox from starting for an user who belongs to an Active Directory domain

2009-10-23 Thread nilleb
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

on karmic, apparmor prevents an active directory user from starting firefox. An
active directory user has his home in a folder following the pattern
/home/DOMAIN/user/
and this is probably the cause of the misbehavior. An user not belonging to
Active Directory will be able to start FF when apparmor is on.

starting firefox when AppArmor is off will enable the Active Directory
users to see the ubuntu "search page" (default home page for FF3.5.3).

As an evidence, the /var/log/kern.log lines follow. they're related to
the lock operations on the FF .parentlock. It seems that the k mask is
being denied.

[Bug 458845] [NEW] Empathy doesn't use SRV from DNS

2009-10-23 Thread A Jackson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I have a Jabber-server that have an domain name that differs from its
XMPP-domain part.
So if I don't fill in the XMPP-servers name, Empathy will not connect to my
Jabber-account. This renders Empathy more or less useless, as all other
usefull Jabber-clients uses the SRV post in DNS to connect to the right
Jabber-server if it exists.

This should be possible:
Jabber server name: server.example.com
Jabber account in the server: u...@example.org
where there is a SRV record in DNS for example.org pointing to Jabber-server
server.example.com

I have no problems connecting with Gajim (or Pidgin) without setting server
name in scenarios like this.
You should look at Gajim for a good Jabber client. Especially for how to look
up services on a Jabber-server.

[Bug 430840] Re: aptBackend.py crashed with error in connect()

2009-10-23 Thread Tamás Gál
Change line 53 in aptBackend.py form this:

_syslog = logging.handlers.SysLogHandler("/dev/log",
logging.handlers.SysLogHandler.LOG_DAEMON)

to this:

_syslog =
logging.handlers.SysLogHandler(logging.handlers.SysLogHandler.LOG_DAEMON)

KPackageKit seems to working and I don't have any error messages now.
But I don't know that the logging is working.

2009-10-23 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ec2-init

Due to compatibility bugs in Eucalyptus (bug 457281 and bug 457283) UEC
images can't automount the /mnt space, which is a common expectation
among EC2 users.

We should fix this on the image side (ec2-init ? vmbuilder ?) so that it
adapts to what is provided to it (an ext2 /dev/sda2 in UEC case, an ext3
/dev/sda2 or /dev/sdb in EC2 case), rather than using a static fstab.

This bug affects me too. Same as above, after reboot the upgraded from
jaunty to karmic.

I agree with Gerv above. It's better to see no crash after an upgrade

What values of probe_mask did you try?
For the old driver I got my sound to work with probe_mask=4, with the
current one probe_mask=8
Possible just go through all number from 1 - (max of probe_mask? 10?).
I suppose that isn't really understanding the problem but a desperate brute
force attempt.
