[Bug 370819] Re: notecase consumes 100% CPU

2009-07-03 Thread Patola
I think it would be more useful (and it would take less effort) if
someone wrote a converter. Really, there are dozens of programs similar
to or better than notecase. freemind is one of them, while it lacks on a
few features. kbasket/KDE basket, on the other hand, is much more
powerful than notecase (but it was not cross-platform, that's why I
didn't choose it in first place - I need to change notes with my
colleagues which use windows). Before notecase I used tuxcards that,
while less powerful, had a much better search system. The hard part is
really choosing a decent one amongst all the alternatives. And I trusted
notecase to this but now I feel betrayed.

To make things worse, I won't pay 35 euros to rent such a commodity
software for two years, much less 117 euros for a 'lifetime license'.
It's just too expensive. I live in a developing country, I don't earn 10
thousand euros a month and I don't agree with proprietary code anyways.

[Bug 350065] Re: usb ports randomly shut off Jaunty beta

2009-07-03 Thread /dev/null
After I attached a fan (Arctic Cooler 3) on the "Northbridge" on my ASRock
K10N78FullHD-hSLI it seems to be (as far as i can say right now) better. I
haven't had any USB issues lately.
I am using Ubuntu with kernel "2.6.30-020630-generic" and
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14 driver [NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run]
But every time i attach another USB-Stick or my camera i am still anxious :-(

I now hope it might be only an temperature issue. (I had this before on
another ASRock mainboard... wrong usage of heat-conductive paste on
shipping (one spot in the middle and that was it...))

I will report whether the system will run smooth and stable now.

[Bug 387825] Re: can't install java doc jdk-6u10-doc

2009-07-03 Thread rued...@gmail.com
To further clarify my last post, I should summarize.

I appraise this bug as "Poorly designed intended behavior". It's not
really a bug by some people's standards, just a non-user-friendly quirk
in the behavior of the scripts.

I might even go so far as to say the behavior of having a package be
stuck half installed and not uninstallable if you don't agree to it's
license agreement is highly undesirable and could be considered against
the Ubuntu standard policies regarding how proprietary content packages
should work.

In short this package obviously lacks the user-friendly nature of the
other Sun-Java package to the point that it could be considered a "bug".

[Bug 82124] Re: HP NetServer LP1000R NetRaid (megaraid) panics

2009-07-03 Thread Raúl Pedroche
The reported problem still affects Intrepid and Jaunty. The source of the
problem is upstream, in vanilla kernel itself.
H/W products affected seem to be the whole HP Netserver LT, LP and LC ranges.
>From my own tests: install in HP LP6000r works, as install CD (Intrepid) sees
>the virtual disk as a real SCSI disk. Unfortunately, installed system will not
>boot, as buffer inquiries (that make sense with a "real" disk, but not with
>the virtual volume) time out _after_ kernel looks for and does not find root
>filesystem.
Fix is really easy and can be performed by the end users, but having to
download kernel sources, patch, compile and install after each new kernel
package release can become excessively cumbersome.

[Bug 249039] Re: GDM error on shutdown/restart

2009-07-03 Thread Dave C
For the record... on further investigation, I no longer believe that
this bug is the cause of my particular shutdown hang. It *is* the last
error message in the shutdown log, but after the message is issued, I
hear the hard disk park, and see a "power down" message. My current
thinking is that the shutdown hang is an ACPI bug of some flavor, it's
just that this gdm assertion failure is the last incriminating evidence
and makes gdm look quite guilty.

Upstream, the kernel team is saying that it is a platform driver issue

[Bug 294938] Re: dmraid activates nvidia Fakeraid with missing disk

2009-07-03 Thread danwood76
John this is not a forum.

It looks as though you have not built the array properly with the BIOS utility.
Also you could have formatted the /dev/sdb to something else and erased the
metadata.

Try rebuilding the array and repartitioning.

2009-07-03 Thread Murray Cumming
I don't know how the comma-separated (CSV) file format could support
return characters in text fields, or if it should. Maybe quotes around
the text would allow it. I need to check what other programs such as
FileMaker do.

But it certainly shouldn't crash. Could you please attach an example
file so I can try it.

This issue has actually not re-appeared in jaunty. But the compiz config
settings manager does need to have the 'commands' plug in enabled. Go to

that the commands plug in has got a tick next to it.

If you don't find the compiz config manager, install package

[Bug 314004] Re: Lilo gets installed on dist-upgrades, due to the kernel image recommending it. Is this intentional?

2009-07-03 Thread IzzieDee
I just upgraded 2 July 2009 (yesterday). I never used Lilo. Today it was
included in the upgrade (I should have unchecked it, but did not). When
I clicked cancel in the pop up window (informing me that it is essential
that I run lilo config) it was ignored until the third time, when I
received a crash error.

One pop-up: E: lilo: subprocess post-installation script returned error

[Bug 338669] Re: (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset

2009-07-03 Thread Vu Ngoc San
wow, I'm going to try that.
I have been struggling with this bug for months. And in a working environment
where I usually try to convince my colleages that linux is better, I have to
say it was so embarassing that these artifacts appear all the time that
I would only hide my kubuntu... Not even to mention the fact that I often need
to make video presentations... what a shame.
I have tried all combinations of intel driver options and versions, none would
work.

[Bug 394575] Re: Ubiquity runs ntfsresize without warning or permission

2009-07-03 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
I was installing onto a 500GB device that was ntfs formatted, and had
120GB of free space. As it turns out ntfsresize couldn't create 30MB of
unpartitioned space. Ntfsresize was also very slow outside of the VM.

As I understand, Ubiquity would run ntfsresize four times, if I were to resize
the partition
1) Just after selected the keyboard layout.
2) When starting the manual partitioner.
3) Just before resizing the ntfs partition, to check that it will actually work.
4) Calling ntfsresize to actually resize the partition.

If ntfsresize is meant to be this slow on a large drive, then I would
suggest removing 1+2, and just rely on df to give the user a clue as to
how much space they can free up. To keep the windows drive usable you
probably won't want to remove all free-space anyway, and ntfsresize
isn't always reliable in its estimates as to how much space it can free
up anyway. However other partitioners also behave in a similar way, e.g.
gparted runs ntfsresize on start if there are unmounted ntfs partitions
and partman also runs ntfsresize before it will even let you specify how
much space you want to remove.

Even if ntfsresize isn't meant to be that slow, #2 seems redundant,
since it could have been cached from #1.

The ntfsresize from
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/amd64/ntfsprogs/2.0.0-1ubuntu2
also takes a longing time to checking for freeable space. (over 5minutes, on
the 500GB usb drive on a native Dual Core 2)

[Bug 22099] Re: Kontact (well, kmail) crashes when deleting email from an imap-ssl folder

2009-07-03 Thread George Varghese
I am experiencing kmail crashes in Ubuntu Hardy. This happens when I try
to delete certain emails from IMAP account. Deleting other emails is no
problem. But I do not know the difference between these two kinds of
emails though. I have been using Kmail for some years. I did not
experience it before. Please see the crash report attached.

Further, the bug reporting in Kmail does not work. The error I see is
"Could not find service kfmclient".

[Bug 389323] Re: You can't do anything with searched files

2009-07-03 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

A feature request is Not a papercut.
A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter
on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read >
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 348332] Re: [RV250] Kubuntu: X Freezes with Radeon driver EXA/XAA Composite

2009-07-03 Thread maestro_alubia
I got a freeze again, so option 4) ist definitely not true.

Furthermore Composite is still disabled so this is not a workaround for
the problem.

The hang occured when many applications were open and this time I did
not have any Kopete Chat Windows opened (although kopete itself was
running).

Just before X freezes the mouse-cursor gets damaged and a few seconds
later everything gets real slow.

I than logged via ssh into the defect machine and attached gdb to the
process. I append the output of "bt f", hope thats helpful.

[Bug 315809] Re: [Jaunty] Sound card outputs start muted after recent updates to use pulseaudio

2009-07-03 Thread Freddie
I'm on Debian testing. on my set up the symlink has already been created
at /etc/rcS.d/S50alsa-utils (which fits with the notes atop /etc/init.d
/alsa-utils) so this fix, predictably, doesn't work.

[Bug 389909] Re: Change resolve order so Nautilus can browse local network when ISP uses DNS redirection

2009-07-03 Thread Thierry Carrez
> So you are saying that trying to browse a network with seperate LANs and AD

> using KDE would also be slower than trying to browse the same network with
> Gnome?

Not exactly, what I'm saying is that on *every* network that has a
correct DNS setup, this change will result in a small performance hit
and/or useless network noise. This is not a question of "large company
networking". Everyone can setup dnsmasq for local name resolution and
get rid of that annoyance. I just feel slightly uncomfortable impacting
those who do it well to cater for protocol-breaking DNS providers. But
it might be an acceptable trade-off... I just wait for others to give
their opinion.

This impacts networks with more than one SMB host that do not have local
DNS setup, and that happen to use OpenDNS or some other broken DNS as
upstream DNS. With more and more small NAS/video boxes in home networks,
and more and more ISPs switching to that dubious revenue model, this
becomes a common occurrence.

[Bug 338669] Re: (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset

2009-07-03 Thread Grasyop
I'd like to try it too, because this bug upsets me. But I read about
KDE 4.3 RC 1:

"Note that these packages have a bug which causes X to die during the
upgrade. The upgrade will continue and you can reboot when it is done."

So, how do you know when the upgrade is done? What time would you wait
before rebooting?

This sounds to me as the GConf defaults not being installed properly.
Maybe we have already a ticket about it? I would think that the 0.84
packages from debian has this fixed.
