I also have a 1420n and was experiencing intermittent problems with sound (it would work in about 1 out of every 5 boots). I am running latest Jaunty as of around 2009-04-20 9:45am PST. [Bug 364442] Re: Thinkpad X60 volume keys do not show feedback notification
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 357673 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357673 Hi Mark, This appears to be a duplicate of bug #357673, and the flipside of bug #355300. The problem is that on ThinkPads, these buttons *also* have an effect at the hardware level; we have previously been overriding the defaults of the thinkpad-acpi module to force these button presses to be exposed to userspace, but there is no way to disable the action in hardware, so we end up with double handling. The short-term fix for this is to /not/ override the kernel module and expose these keypresses to userspace. This has the unfortunate side- effect of leaving us without OSD for these keys, but this is effectively because hal/gnome-settings-daemon are not equipped to deal with this kind of "notification-only" mixer event, and there are currently no standard linux input key events defined for this. In the long term, we need a good way to expose these mixer changes to userspace, but reverting to the previous behavior isn't more correct than what we're currently doing. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 357673 No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42 ** Changed in: acpi-support (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- Thinkpad X60 volume keys do not show feedback notification https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/364442 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I guess with "empty" you mean "absent" (cdrom_id will never print empty variables, it's either a positive number or not printed at all). But for an udev rule, empty and absent are pretty much the same, I suppose. [Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42
Repeating comment from duplicate bug #364442: The problem is that on ThinkPads, these buttons *also* have an effect at the hardware level; we have previously been overriding the defaults of the thinkpad-acpi module to force these button presses to be exposed to userspace, but there is no way to disable the action in hardware, so we end up with double handling. -- No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357673 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 356631] CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject due to random session/track count
Hello udev developers, https://launchpad.net/bugs/356631 reported that many people still have the problem that after ejecting a CD, the CD-ROM tray automatically closes again, causing the killing of fingers and CDs (or small pets :-) ) This problem came up a while ago already, and was solved with introducing this into /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules: # probe filesystem metadata of optical drives which have a media inserted KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT}=="?*", IMPORT{program}="vol_id --export --skip-raid --offset=$env{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_LAST_OFFSET} $tempnode" However, this rule (and the corresponding code in cdrom_id [1]) relies on the track/session counts being zero if there is no CD in the drive. However, at least with kernel 2.6.28.8 the affected people get something like ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE=blank ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_NEXT=2894 ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_COUNT=19194 ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT=47323 In other words, if ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE=blank, the session/track counts are not reliable. Arguably this could/should be fixed in the kernel, to fix these values to 0 if there is no CD in the drive, or it is blank. However, I wondered if the udev rules should be more robust in that regard, and not even ask for the number of tracks if there is no/empty CD. Affected people verified that adding this rule before the one from above makes things work: KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE}=="blank", GOTO="persistent_storage_end" Thanks, Martin [1] if (cd_media_track_count > 0) printf("ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT=%d\n", cd_media_track_count); -- Martin Pitt| http://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer (www.ubuntu.com) | Debian Developer (www.debian.org) -- CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/356631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

You can check the status of this bug/request here: http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=196000 Note though that the maintainer seems to take the opinion that people should not use tsql but should use sqsh instead. [Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome
Oh man, this is going to be so fun. I'm on an Aspire 8930G (8.10 amd-64). Rebooted yesterday morning, then found the same problem described here -- my keyboard and touchpad stopped working on both the gdm and kdm login screen. (Doubly annoying since apparently the monitor just turns itself off and I end up typing in the dark when I switch TTYs with the nvidia driver, but that's another issue). Same for my USB mouse, except that it did work after unplugging it and plugging it back. It seemed strange at the time since everything worked as expected in the LiveCD environment, and I hadn't touched xorg.conf at all, then started to get really annoying until I just decided to reinstall and the problem went away. Figures that I decided to update everything again, so I might be facing this same problem tomorrow morning. I did check my apt logs before reinstalling though, and noticed that, other than a few xfce4.6 updates that seemed irrelevant (stuff like orage and such) I also got an upgrade for udev 144 from a PPA. But for some reason I didn't copy the log file to check later (or the info from the PPA, argh I'm stupid), and now that I've been reading through all this I doubt it's udev's fault at all. Either way I'm going to keep an eye out on this. The update-rc.d workaround looks promising, so I hope I can apply it somehow from the LiveCD if it does go south later on. -- [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254840 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
