2009-04-21 Thread Ara Pulido
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-selector

[Bug 363892] Re: No sound in Dell Inspiron 1420 in Jaunty

2009-04-21 Thread Alex
I also have a 1420n and was experiencing intermittent problems with
sound (it would work in about 1 out of every 5 boots). I am running
latest Jaunty as of around 2009-04-20 9:45am PST.

I found that the following fix: https://bugs.launchpad.net/alsa-
utils/+bug/315809/comments/7  to the file /usr/share/alsa/init/00main
results in sound working for 100% of cold boots. I am unable to get any
sound at all after a suspend/resume though.

[Bug 359868] Re: [Acer, inc. Aspire 4530] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-04-21 Thread Asif Youssuff
I rebooted using the no_console_suspend option in grub.

After initiating a pm-suspend in VT1, the computer appeared to suspend
successfully. The power button/light blinked slowly with an amber color.

I attempted to resume the machine by pressing the power button.

It appeared to begin to resume, and I got the following messages:

ata2.00:revalidation failed (errno=-5)
ata1.00:revalidation failed (errno=-5)
ata2.00:revalidation failed (errno=-5)
ata1.00:revalidation failed (errno=-5)
...
this was in the original font -- not the new font (setfont) provided.

I got some more messages in the new font:

end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
end-request: I/O error, dev sda sector
... (entire screen fulls)
Ext4-fs error (device sda5):ext4_find_entry: reading directory #xx
Buffer I/O error on device sda6, logical block xx
JBD2: I/O error, dev sda detected when updating superblock for sda5:8

switching back to VT7 showed me the GDM screen, logging in did not work.
went back to VT1, tried to reboot and got error:

sudo: unable to execute /sbin/reboot: input/output error

tried this a couple of times (3 times to be exact), had the same issues
each time. i'll be happy to troubleshoot further if necessary.

[Bug 347569] Re: glxgears low fps on Xpress 200M

2009-04-21 Thread sergks
There is a solution to this problem:
http://www.nabble.com/R300-regression-td23108996.html
I patched r300_context.c (I did this manually), re-compiled the mesa and now I
am back:
glxgears
5655 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1130.871 FPS
5656 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1131.106 FPS
5654 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1130.648 FPS

Sorry, I can not provide the patch. I do not know how to do this.

[Bug 364442] Re: Thinkpad X60 volume keys do not show feedback notification

2009-04-21 Thread Steve Langasek
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 357673 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/357673

Hi Mark,

This appears to be a duplicate of bug #357673, and the flipside of bug
#355300.

The problem is that on ThinkPads, these buttons *also* have an effect at
the hardware level; we have previously been overriding the defaults of
the thinkpad-acpi module to force these button presses to be exposed to
userspace, but there is no way to disable the action in hardware, so we
end up with double handling.

The short-term fix for this is to /not/ override the kernel module and
expose these keypresses to userspace. This has the unfortunate side-
effect of leaving us without OSD for these keys, but this is effectively
because hal/gnome-settings-daemon are not equipped to deal with this
kind of "notification-only" mixer event, and there are currently no
standard linux input key events defined for this.

In the long term, we need a good way to expose these mixer changes to
userspace, but reverting to the previous behavior isn't more correct
than what we're currently doing.

Hi, kloeggasa

You might want to follow the hints at

backtrace that might help us to see what is happening.

That page was wrote for hardy but it is quite simple to adapt those

[Bug 105918] Re: Thunderbird 'Create filter from message' should use 'To' instead of 'From'

I'm waking this back up because I am experiencing this as well. For my
situation, using Thunderbird 2.0.0.21, I tried creating a filter for all
Launchpad messages to send them to another folder. I right-clicked on
the "Reply-To" address, but when the filter comes up, it shows "From".
The filter works, but it just seems that there should be a way to
discern "From" from "Reply-To" or "Sender" (which also shows "From" in
the created filter).

Let me know if you need more information.

Next, the first login made the screen blinking and the mouse pointer was

2009-04-21 Thread Ogilvierothchild
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: icewm

  The CPU usage according to 'top' is consistently at 20%-30% for the
  'icewm' process, with the Xorg process also using a similar amount.
  This severely affects battery lifetime on my laptop, rendering icewm not
  usable unless connected to a power supply.

  $ lsb_release -rd
  Description:Ubuntu 9.04
  Release:9.04
  $ apt-cache policy icewm
  icewm:
Installed: 1.2.37-1ubuntu1
  ...

  Usual CPU usage for IceWM is in the 0%-2% range.
+
+ May be related to bug #307306?

*Nod* But then the CD still wouldn't have any tracks/sessions.

I guess with "empty" you mean "absent" (cdrom_id will never print empty
variables, it's either a positive number or not printed at all). But
for an udev rule, empty and absent are pretty much the same, I
suppose. However, it means that with the current cdrom_id code you
cannot distinguish "no cd" from "blank cd" anyway.

Within the currently exposed behaviour it does have the same semantics
(barring the problem of uninitialized track counts, which causes this
bug, of course). If you say that the currently exposed cdrom_id values
are wrong, then let's fix those instead, of course. Your call.

I absolutely disagree. Not the place to discuss this, though.

*shrug* fine for me.

Wrong, http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ tracks kernel bugs. It just doesn't
have a component for udev.

[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42

2009-04-21 Thread Steve Langasek
Repeating comment from duplicate bug #364442:

[Bug 356631] CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject due to random session/track count

2009-04-21 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello udev developers,

https://launchpad.net/bugs/356631 reported that many people still have
the problem that after ejecting a CD, the CD-ROM tray automatically
closes again, causing the killing of fingers and CDs (or small pets :-) )

This problem came up a while ago already, and was solved with
introducing this into /lib/udev/rules.d/60-persistent-storage.rules:

  # probe filesystem metadata of optical drives which have a media inserted
  KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT}=="?*", IMPORT{program}="vol_id
--export --skip-raid --offset=$env{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_LAST_OFFSET}
$tempnode"

However, this rule (and the corresponding code in cdrom_id [1]) relies
on the track/session counts being zero if there is no CD in the drive.
However, at least with kernel 2.6.28.8 the affected people get
something like

  ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE=blank
  ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_NEXT=2894
  ID_CDROM_MEDIA_SESSION_COUNT=19194
  ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT=47323

In other words, if ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE=blank, the session/track
counts are not reliable.

Arguably this could/should be fixed in the kernel, to fix these values
to 0 if there is no CD in the drive, or it is blank. However, I
wondered if the udev rules should be more robust in that regard, and
not even ask for the number of tracks if there is no/empty CD.
Affected people verified that adding this rule before the one from
above makes things work:

  KERNEL=="sr*", ENV{ID_CDROM_MEDIA_STATE}=="blank",
GOTO="persistent_storage_end"

Thanks,

Martin

[1] if (cd_media_track_count > 0)
printf("ID_CDROM_MEDIA_TRACK_COUNT=%d\n", cd_media_track_count);

[Bug 298875] Re: freetds-dev missing parts

2009-04-21 Thread Jens Jorgensen
This package is managed upstream in the debian project. I've submitted a
patch to the maintainer that adds a freetds-bin package which includes
tsql plus bcp and all the other binaries that are included in the
freetds source.

You can check the status of this bug/request here:

http://bugs.debian.org:80/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=196000

Note though that the maintainer seems to take the opinion that people
should not use tsql but should use sqsh instead. So there's no guarantee
the patch will even be accepted. In any case, maybe sqsh suits your
needs. On the other hand, if the maintainer doesn't like the patch I may
just set up my own little repository people can pull the package from--
I've set one up before and it isn't hard.

Like you, I still have refresh issues when using Firefox. For example,
when I'm reading an e-mail in Evolution containing an HTTP link, if I

to put on top, but the tab contents is not shown. If I minimize the

[Bug 261026] Re: exim4 install fails with error: incompatible command-line options

2009-04-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
The patch looks sane, however I fail to reproduce the issue.
Installing exim4-daemon-light on up-to-date hardy just works for me.

Looking at the Debian bug we are experiencing something different. Their
issue was triggered by a change in how start_daemon handles args in
lsb>=3.2-9, and hardy runs with 3.2-4ubuntu1. Running the init script in
debug mode, in particular, shows no empty ('' '' '') arguments in the
start-stop-daemon call :

$ sudo EX4DEBUG=1 /etc/init.d/exim4 start
...
+ /sbin/start-stop-daemon --start --nicelevel 0 --quiet --exec /usr/sbin/exim4
--oknodo --pidfile /var/run/exim4/exim.pid -- -bd -q30m
...

Could someone that experienced that issue confirm lsb-base version and
send the result of the "sudo EX4DEBUG=1 /etc/init.d/exim4 start" command
?

[Bug 254840] Re: [intrepid] mouse and keyboard stop working under gdm and gnome

2009-04-21 Thread Juan A. Romero
Oh man, this is going to be so fun.

I'm on an Aspire 8930G (8.10 amd-64). Rebooted yesterday morning, then
found the same problem described here -- my keyboard and touchpad
stopped working on both the gdm and kdm login screen. (Doubly annoying
since apparently the monitor just turns itself off and I end up typing
in the dark when I switch TTYs with the nvidia driver, but that's
another issue). Same for my USB mouse, except that it did work after
unplugging it and plugging it back. It seemed strange at the time since
everything worked as expected in the LiveCD environment, and I hadn't
touched xorg.conf at all, then started to get really annoying until I
just decided to reinstall and the problem went away.

Figures that I decided to update everything again, so I might be facing
this same problem tomorrow morning. I did check my apt logs before
reinstalling though, and noticed that, other than a few xfce4.6 updates
that seemed irrelevant (stuff like orage and such) I also got an upgrade
for udev 144 from a PPA. But for some reason I didn't copy the log file
to check later (or the info from the PPA, argh I'm stupid), and now that
I've been reading through all this I doubt it's udev's fault at all.

Either way I'm going to keep an eye out on this. The update-rc.d
workaround looks promising, so I hope I can apply it somehow from the
LiveCD if it does go south later on.

[Bug 357062] Re: brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_slice_free1()

2009-04-21 Thread Tomas Cassidy
I'm not sure whether this log captured the same problem. When I dragged
a file from the filesystem window into the audio project window, the
window went dark and appeared to hang for a long time. I eventually
just force-quit the program. The file I was dragging into the project
was ~6.7MB MP3.
