[Bug 316007] [NEW] Rhythmbox doesn't put music files in the Music directory on mtp devices

2009-01-11 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This used to work in intrepid, but in jaunty, rhythmbox throws
everything in the device's root instead of in the Music directory. This
has two bad effects:

 * Internally, the device uses FAT, with a ~100 file limit in the root
 * The music player on the device doesn't find music if it's not int he Music
directory.

The MTP library does detect a special Music directory (part of mtp-detect
output):
Special directories:
   Default music folder: 0x00798f70
   Default playlist folder: 0x
   Default picture folder: 0x
   Default video folder: 0x
   Default organizer folder: 0x
   Default zencast folder: 0x
   Default album folder: 0x
   Default text folder: 0x

Again, this used to work in intrepid, but it's broken now in jaunty.

** Affects: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

2009-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Actually this seems to be a bug in the musepack plugin, but figuring out
why it's crashed is going to pretty much be impossible without the file.

Any chance you can recover it or locate it again? If so, please provide
it here.

[Bug 283956] Re: audacious crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-01-11 Thread Bryce Harrington
Closing as expired, since there's not enough info to debug this.

Also, it appears this is crashing in some 'crossfade' plugin, but I'm
seeing no sign of that in the audacious source code, nor in audacious-
plugins. So maybe this bug is misfiled anyway.

[Bug 316009] [NEW] Inaccurate Estimate of Export Time

2009-01-11 Thread clubsoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kino

When exporting to MPEG/DVD, the estimated remaining time seems wildly
pessimistic, eg: 20 hours for a project which will complete in about an
hour. Perhaps the initial time taken to lock audio is not being
subtracted from the time taken so far, when estimating the export frame
rate(?)

[Bug 282426] Re: update-manager crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-01-11 Thread tdflanders
Hi Michael,

I reproduced the crash, but gdb indicated nothing.

As you can see above I get an 'please run dpkg --configure -a' error. I
did this and include the output bellow and in file.

One more question though:

Is there any relevance to this bug? I ran it from the live cd and not
many people will be using 'root# update-manager -c -d' from a live cd.
Still I am glad to help you out if it can discover any significant
weaknesses in the code off course.

Cheers,

Thomas

[Bug 314357] Re: NetworkManager unable to set wired dhcp connection (r8169)

2009-01-11 Thread Antonio
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: network-manager

  Hi,

I'm running ubuntu intrepid ibex (8.10) on a Dell Vostro 1310 laptop.
- Networkmanager is unable to setup my wired connection via dhcp. It has
- no problem with profiles with fixed ip address. Let me explain the
- problem in detail.
+ Networkmanager is unable to setup my wired connection via dhcp (this is
+ a regression since with ubuntu 8.04 I had no problem with NM). It has no
+ problem with profiles with fixed ip address. Let me explain the problem
+ in detail.

I have two profile wired profiles in NewtworkManager: "Galileo2" with a
fixed ip (work), and "Fastweb cavo" with dhcp (home).

When I boot at home (dhcp needed), NM set the Galileo2 profile by
default. At this point, if I switch to the dhcp profile, the applet says
I'm connected to "Fastweb cavo" but I cannot reach Internet. The NM log
of this situation is reported in the first attachment.

Furthermore the card at this point is "blocked" and I cannot connect
even if I manually type "sudo dhclient eth0" in a terminal. The dhclient
output is reported in the second attachment. I have to reboot be be able
  to connect to internet again.

On the other and, if I boot AND do not touch the NM applet, and manually
set the eth0 connection with "sudo dhclient eth0" I'm able to connect to
Internet regularly. The NM log and the dhclient output in this case is
reported respectively in third and fourth attachment.

  The used kernel is:

$ uname -r
2.6.27-9-generic

  And the ethernet card is

  lspci -vv

[Bug 209794] Re: "Clear Private Data" does not clear private data from the Awesome Bar's Rich Results list

2009-01-11 Thread Greg Mars
I was really surprised there was no supported way to clear the location bar.
Furthermore, this problem persists in 3.0.5 and it's extremely annoying.
It IS a bug and a big enough bug for me to invoke 'sudo apt-get purge firefox'.

There are times when you simply DO NOT WANT firefox blabbing about everywhere
you've been.
Imagine doing a presentation for a client and accidentally bringing up work for
a competitor.
Or visiting a politically 'questionable' website under a repressive regime.
The scope for embarrassment/harm is boundless because this program is a
complete chatterbox and there is no obvious way to shut it up!

I was *this* close to getting rid of it when I found a way to delete its
dossier.
I backed up my bookmarks since I didn't want to risk losing them
(note to mozilla, one generally bookmarks sites one wants to be reminded of)
shutdown firefox, then did a 'locate places.sqlite' and deleted it.

That seemed to work.
On relaunch, the bar was only populated by sites in my bookmarks.
That's somewhat annoying in itself but there might be an about:config option to
turn that off.

[Bug 282426] Re: update-manager crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-01-11 Thread tdflanders
Hi there,

I did it again. The update-manager gdb session would not crash on me, so
I tried ctrl+C and then the gdb session of the update-manager gdb
session crashed and it did have stack. The update-manager gdb session
itself did not. Also dpkg --configure -a gdb session gave the same (type
off) output again. I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Thomas

Re: [Bug 315647] Re: OEM config should have bulletproof X support

2009-01-11 Thread Loye Young
On Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 8:22 PM, Mario Limonciello wrote:
>What's the first
>thing you do when you boot your computer from the factory? You run
>oem-config...

I don't know about other companies' practices, but no customer of IYCC has
to run oem-config. We have already run oem-config-prepare before we ship the
machine. Normal customers should simply turn on the computer, wait for the
Xserver/GTK dialog to start, fill out the form, and then log in. Even on
reinstallation, the customer should NOT be running oem-config unless the
customer wants to join the ranks of the Linux Army.

Oem-config is a tool for the OEM. Before the machine ever leaves the
factory, oem-config-prepare should have already been run so that the machine
is in a working state, ready for the customer to get to work. When the
customer turns on the machine the first time, the system runs through its
start-up scripts, one of the last of which is starting the Xserver. Because
it is the first time the customer has turned on the machine, instead of
running the gdm-chooser immediately, a GTK application runs that asks for a
few pieces of information, the user is created behind the scenes, and
finally the gdm-chooser (or other login screen) loads.

If the machine is unable to complete the boot process enough to load the
Xserver, the customer has a defectively or incompletely configured computer
and should either call the OEM for support or return the system for a
cheerful refund or exchange. The GTK application won't run without an
Xserver running. The application assumes (rightly) that the system is
configured well enough from the factory that the process is capable of
completing all the steps necessary, all the way through to Xserver startup.
(Although it is technically possible to run natively in graphics mode from
the time the kernel is loaded, for reasons of reliability and maximum
compatibility, that's not the current state of the art.)

Recovery discs should not require a customer to go through oem-config, even
on reinstalltion. The Right Way to support the customer is to send a
factory-customized disc that contains a more traditional desktop
installation script and some additional recovery tools. The factory already
knows how the system is to be configured, so it should have already set up
the preseed file with all the configuration options already set and included
all the necessary packages. The customer should not have to think, and the
install should "just work."

Pre-configuring the system is what customers pay OEMs to do. The oem-config
script is an aid to OEMs when engineering a custom system. If the system
needs a re-installation, the customer should be guided through a very clean
desktop installation process that doesn't require anything more than filling
in customer-specific information.

Back to the original issue of this bug report, I share your frustration with
defectively designed or built monitors and other peripherals. I do believe
that oem-config-firstboot should fail more gracefully and provide more
helpful information. Having banged my head against a wall way too many
times, however, I am steadfast in my conviction that oem-config failing over
to "bulletproofX" would just be pouring water on a drowning man.

Again, if there are OEMs that need or want additional assistance with
engineering and installing systems, IYCC has a great deal of expertise in
this area, much of which we give away for free.

We welcome your call.

Happy Trails,
