[Bug 240156] Re: locking audio - error writing to kino/mjpeg audio filter
Unsure if this is exactly the same issue, but today when trying to do some renders, I mis-typed the render path, and received an error saying "Error writing to KINO/MJPEG audio filter - aborting." I can reproduce this at any time on Intrepid Ibex by typing in an invalid render path, i.e. parent directory does not really exist. Are you sure it was a real directory your were rendering to, and that you had write permissions on the directory? [Bug 240230] Re: does not support pulseaudio
Audacity doesn't work with pulse audio. I have the "perfectsetup" for pulse audio using the guide on perfect setup. There is no other audio editor for linux that I Know of. If you know any that works with pulse, please add as an comment. thank you. This is Beyond Annoying that a basic function of providing sound/audio of an operating system is not met by Ubuntu. And, I mean a WORKING audio that doesn't require a user to fix to make it work. I believe this opinion is worth mentioning here as a way to convey some common sense to the developers: Make basic things work-out-of-box! like system-wide sound. It primarily happens when writing bigger files or high speed is required. For example, I can't burn a dvd with data from the external drive. And the printer crashes when scanning or printing big files. I always need to restart the whole system. [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
In my opinion bug #1 should be: "Catch up to functionality/user-friendliness of Microsoft or Mac" that is if I am correct in understanding that you mean you want to gain market share when you report "microsoft hold on market" as bug #1 Are developers really that oblivious to the simple fact that the only thing that matters in gaining market share is 1) Make things work out- of-box--hardware, common softwares, 2) User-friendliness-- looks and functionality, 3) better features, Ubuntu seriously lacks in user-friendliness/functionality that is found in Microsoft and apple. Few examples from my own experience of using Ubuntu for a year are: 1) Audio setup problem--alsa, pulse, etc is still not solved and that a 'proper' sound system doesn't work out of box like in win xp I had. I don't know what the problem is but it doesn't work Out-of-the-box. 2) featureless file browser compared to Finder in mac. 3) no control panel. 4) video player doesn't work out-of-box. etc. 5) Having to deal with terminal. I could go on for a few more. These drawbacks of holding back Ubuntu to let users utilize and enjoy the "advanced" features that it offers--compiz is the only one that comes to my mind. Again, remember that if the user has to hassle around just to make an advanced feature work on OS, you can't call that an advanced feature! ie. an advanced feature that lacks an easy access by a regular (non-terminal user) user, it's basically non-functional. Do developers agree with me here? The only praise I can give to Ubuntu is it's ideology of open and free software. Although the ideology provides greater freedom, unfortunately, it hasn't proven to be better than closed source in terms of making human-computer interface and experience easier, which is all that matters at the end of the day. -- Microsoft has a majority market share https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 272247] Re: System freezes during boot, unless I hold a key down
Hi all! I have exactly the same bug on my HP Pavilion dv6000. And yesterday I found something that maybe can help with understanding this issue. [Bug 306815] [NEW] Pasting over selected text in the search box behaves erratically
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gjiten Steps to reproduce: 1) Open gjiten and gedit 2) Type abcd in gjiten's search box 3) Type efgh in gedit, and copy it to the clipboard 4) With the mouse, select the content of gjiten's search box 5) Click on "Paste" in the "Edit" menu, or use the CTRL-V shortcut 6) Nothing happens. abcd is not replaced with efgh :-( Reproducibility: 100% Version: Gjiten 2.6-2 provided by Ubuntu 2008.10 The workaround is to press Suppr before pasting, then it works. This is a bug, which Ubuntu is designed to fix. Non-free software is holding back innovation in the IT industry, restricting access to IT to a small part of the world's population and limiting the ability of software developers to reach their full potential, globally. This bug is widely evident in the PC industry. Steps to repeat: 1. Visit a local PC store. What happens: 2. Observe that a majority of PCs for sale have non-free software pre-installed. 3. Observe very few PCs with Ubuntu and free software pre-installed. What should happen: 1. A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software like Ubuntu. 2. Ubuntu should be marketed in a way such that its amazing features and benefits would be apparent and known by all. 3. The system shall become more and more user friendly as time passes. [Bug 306820] [NEW] ubuntu 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-22 nvidia client/server version mismatch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24-22-generic I just updated my Ubuntu 8.04 system yesterday using Update Manager. When I re-enabled the NVIDIA proprietary drivers using the Hardware Drivers tool and reboot I end up with the following error in my /var/log/syslog file: Dec 10 03:34:02 Flayme kernel: [ 212.86] NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 169.12, but Dec 10 03:34:02 Flayme kernel: [ 212.89] NVRM: this kernel module has the version 173.14.12. Please Dec 10 03:34:02 Flayme kernel: [ 212.855561] NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver Dec 10 03:34:02 Flayme kernel: [ 212.855562] NVRM: components have the same version. As a result, any application that uses glx fails (the glx module never gets loaded). This pretty much kills any 3D applications. The default XOrg drivers aren't really an option because of the drastically slower frame rates. Enabling the proprietary NVIDIA driver loads package nvidia-glx-new (169.12). The 173.14.12 version is package nvidia-glx-new-envy. However, if I use the package manager to install this package then the proprietary driver settings get disabled and I'm back to the standard XOrg modules. Enabling the proprietary drivers then automatically uninstalls the nvidia-glx-new-envy package and reloads nvidia-glx-new. Note that the kernel source package associated with all of this is nvidia-new-kernel-source-envy (173.14.12). It looks like the bug is just an issue with the dependency definitions. *sigh* Just one of the many annoying things I hate about package managers that makes me consider switching back to Slackware for my development systems so that I can be in control again. }:> ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ubuntu 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-22 nvidia client/server version mismatch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/306820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 292054] Re: Some drivers take too long to associate (Was: network-manager 0.7 always asks for WPA passphrase)
I'm still having timeout problems with the new package. PEAPv0/MSCHAPv2 will occasionally connect whereas EAP-TLS consistently fails to connect. The bizarre part is that the majority of the time the RADIUS server doesn't even get a request for authentication, and when it does get a request, the user is authenticated properly, yet the connection still fails. I know there is no issue with the RADIUS server because with Juniper or Intel's supplicant, authentication takes 1-3 seconds, at most. I have also noticed that after a successful connection, I can reconnect without re-authenticating with the RADIUS server despite the fact that my RADIUS server does not have pre-authentication or session resumption enabled. All three windows supplicants (Juniper Access Client, Intel ProSet Wireless Client, and XP's supplicant) re-authenticate upon a new connection attempt. However, there is absolutely no activity in the FreeRadius debug output when network-manager reconnects. In addition, 75% of connection attempts do not lead to an authentication attempt with the RADIUS server. Of those that do, authentication is always successful, but network-manager doesn't always connect properly. As I mentioned earlier, I have yet to connect once successfully with EAP-TLS. -- Some drivers take too long to associate (Was: network-manager 0.7 always asks for WPA passphrase) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/292054 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 306834] [NEW] Please split the front-end and the back-end in 2 separated packages
Public bug reported: Hi, If I want to install Virtualbox-ose on a GNOME desktop, I will need to install qt4. Virtualbox is designed in a client/server way. So we should be able to split virtualbox-ose into 2 separated packages : virtualbox-ose-common and virtualbox-ose-qt. The latter should depend on virtualbox-ose-common (the backend) and vboxgtk should also depend on virtualbox-ose-common. Therefore, the user wouldn't have to install extra packages that he doesn't need/want. The kernel modules load fine and while vmware-guestd is running the Infrastrcture Client shows that the VMWare Tools are running. - I used the latest version from -proposed: - # apt-cache policy open-vm-tools - open-vm-tools: - Installed: 2008.08.08-109361-1ubuntu2.1 - Candidate: 2008.08.08-109361-1ubuntu2.1 - Version table: - *** 2008.08.08-109361-1ubuntu2.1 0 - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status - 2008.08.08-109361-1ubuntu1 0 - 500 http://apt.uni-paderborn.de intrepid/multiverse Packages + I used the latest version from -proposed: + open-vm-tools 2008.08.08-109361-1ubuntu2.1 + linux-image-2.6.27-9-server 2.6.27-9.19 x86_64 - Kernel Version: linux-image-2.6.27-9-server 2.6.27-9.19 x86_64 - - - - I also attached the output of strace. [Bug 275535] Re: gnome-search-tool does not find a file in a path containing a hidden directory despite option 'Show hidden and backup files'
I confirm this problem. Can not find file in a dot-directory, although locate is able to find it. -- gnome-search-tool does not find a file in a path containing a hidden directory despite option 'Show hidden and backup files' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/275535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 110899] Re: workspace-switcher needs to work with dualhead setup
Are the later comments refering to the same bug as the original post? The original bug description is not very clear. Is it ok to update it so it only includes the description of the actual bug all the comments seem to refer to (workspace switcher/libwnck is not able to handle dual head setups)? The feature request ("allow moving of apps from a workspace on one monitor to another workspace on the other") should be filed separately. -- workspace-switcher needs to work with dualhead setup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/110899 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
