2008-10-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Chris, the problem with the symlinks is that they point to non-existent
files.

Duncan, what does 'dpkg -S /usr/share/myspell/dicts/en*US* give on your
system, and what does 'dpkg -l hunspell-en-us' give? Both the hunspell-
en-us and myspell-en-us packages in intrepid appear to correctly include

[Bug 285781] [NEW] Ekiga truncates passwords containing |

2008-10-19 Thread David Gibson
Public bug reported:

If I enter a password containing a '|' (pipe) character into the
password field in the Edit|Accounts Properties box, when I close then
re-enter the properties box, the password has been truncated. The
truncated password is shown only as dots, of course, but the number is
equal to the number of characters before the '|' in the original
password.

This is clearly a bug - you can't connect to a SIP account with a
password containing '|'. Worse, it suggests the possibility that the
password is somewhere being passed to a shell, or something for which
'|' is a control character.

[Bug 285780] [NEW] gcc-4.3-spu missing spu cache

2008-10-19 Thread Simon Wunderlich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcc-4.3-spu

Unlike the cell-gcc/spu-gcc package, SPU Software Managed Cache
controlling files are missing in gcc-4.3-spu. They are responsible for
managing and interfacing (spu_cache.h) the Software Managed Cache on the
Cell BE SPU which is implemented as library within gcc.

These files were present in spu-gcc_4.1.1r886, but there is nothing like
this in gcc-4.3-spu:

./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cache64k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cache16k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cache8k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cache32k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cachemgr_nonatomic.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cachemgr.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/mea64/libgcc_cache128k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cache16k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cache8k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cache32k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cachemgr_nonatomic.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cachemgr.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/libgcc_cache128k.a
./usr/lib/gcc/spu/4.1.1/include/spu_cache.h

The consequence is that my software using SPU Software Managed Caches
won't compile anymore. On the other hand i'm forced to gcc-4.3 because
of bugs in gcc 4.1 [1]. It seems that the SPU Software Managed Cache
patches are also still present in the upstream gcc-4.3 cell branch [2],
but not in the upstream gcc-4.3 release [3].

i did a partial upgrade yesterday. there were some errors. it removed 3
linux modules and attemted to install linux-module-generic, which
failed. during the installation process, i noticed that the network
manager and some other applications were removed. after the
installation, there was message saying "some upgrades failed and your
computer might not be in a usable state." fortunately, the computer
still worked. but the network manager icon was gone and the volume icon
had a red x-mark. i was able to restore the network manager by going to

opens a dialogue box saying that the manager can't be opened because
there is no gstreamer plug-in found (or something like that) and gives
the option to remove the icon from the panel.

right clicking on x-marked volume icon to open volume control gives the
following message: No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices
  found. please help.

[Bug 285782] [NEW] Evolution does not preserve outgoing SMTP Password

Evolution used to preserve the password for the SMTP outgoing server (I

It's the safe boot option of livecd, used when booting normally doesn't
work. That's the case when the proper driver can't do proper
modesetting, which is too common at least for nv.

fix to the postinst, and enough time to get in before RC.

[Bug 285794] [NEW] macbook frequent hardlock with Intrepid Ibex

2008-10-19 Thread Ali Sabil
Public bug reported:

Hi All,

Since I upgraded to Intrepid Ibex, I have been experiencing frequent
hardlocks after few hours of work on my 1st generation macbook. I also
found that since I have been using Intrepid, the laptop seems to get
hotter than previously, which leads me to suspect that the hardlock is
probably related to some high temperature.

Please note, that I have been using ubuntu on this laptop since Dapper
(I reinstalled from scratch few times, last time being with Hardy)
without similar issues before.

Please find attached some logs in an archive.

[Bug 285795] [NEW] Intrepid - Changing laptop brightness makes gnome unresponsive

1. I installed Ubuntu Intrepid (8.10) on a Dell Precision M90

[Bug 279186] Re: kernel oops on boot with "quiet" option

2008-10-19 Thread Luka Renko
This is getting worse with latest kernel 2.6.27-7.12: now I always get
Oops on boot of the kernel and even removal of quiet and splash options
does not help. Luckily I still had 2.6.27-6 on the system so that I can
boot it (without "quiet" though).

Good thing (I think) is that now the Oops looks the same all the time -

[Bug 246141] Re: no support for realtek rtl8187se

2008-10-19 Thread mangouste06
Yes david, you're right. Jockey takes de modules we put into
/lib/modules/$(uname -s)/rtl8185 in consideration and acts on it.

Message 'Supported by ubuntu team' seems a location based message. And we put
our modules in /lib/modules...

But this directory doesn't exist in the kernel modules right now.

I just removed rtl8185 from /lib/modules/$(uname -s).

***
The one created with :
  sudo mkdir -p /lib/modules/`uname -r`/rtl8185
  sudo cp ieee80211/*.ko rtl8185/*.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/rtl8185/
***

Reinstalled everything kernel related. No trace of modules related to
8187

According to Steve Langasek, we don't have any chance to get it in
intrepid (all this invalid change).

G.

[Bug 285801] [NEW] Clicking on "Know your rights" on first launch brings up XML parser error

When launching Firefox for the first time after installation an

** Description changed:

it does not want to mount the drives now, no prompt for password to
mount them, only thing I did before rebooting is apt-get dist-upgrade
today, it was working before that , that about the only thing, intrepid

I am doing a apt-get update to see if theirs a fix for this yet?

also I think when I downloaded the kubuntu 8.10 version it was broken on
the iso image by default in kde 4.1

ok I did a reboot , and now it seems to ask for the password again? so I
am not sure what cause this problem to happen , where it would not ask
for password for mounting vista formated hard drives ntfs format drive
+
+
+ once you unmount a drive in gnome , it seems to not like to mount again,,
otherwise it will do nothing to try to mount ntfs drive, does not ask password
or nothing you have either restart the x windows system or logout of it and
login again to remount drive -- I noticed once I was able to mount drive , and
unmount drive I could not mount it again , I guess this is a bug

2008-10-19 Thread drewp
I wrote up a workaround on my blog:
http://drewp.quickwitretort.com/2008/10/19/0

   1. Go get the i386 version of libdbus-glib
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/libdbus-glib-1-2/download) and save the
.deb file somewhere.
   2. Run "file-roller /tmp/libdbus-glib-1-2_0.74-2_i386.deb".
   3. Go into data.tar.gz -> . -> usr -> lib, and copy libdbus-glib-1.so.2.1.0
to your firefox 3.1 directory.
   4. Rename it to lose the ".1.0" at the end.

[Bug 238179] Re: Scrolling in CompactView doesn't work

2008-10-19 Thread manatlan
I waited for this "kind of view" in nautilus ... but the "scroll bug" makes it
unusable ;-(
the "mouse scroll" works only when you put the mouse over the horizontal
scrollbar ... it's unusable...
btw : I like this feature (compact view)

RE: [Bug 285456] Re: evolution crashed upon attempting to upgrade

2008-10-19 Thread jlbr

Hi,

Sorry, can't attach those files you ask for, I was running a Live
Session, does that have something to do with the crash? Also, when
running a Live Session I cant seem to make gstream plug-ins to be
installed or to work, it always tells me (I have tried 3 times) that the
repository cannot be found.

Cheers!

it works fine):

[Bug 255768] Re: evolution asking for a password, even though it should be remembered

2008-10-19 Thread Rex
The following box appears when trying to send an email for the first
time after opening Evolution:

"Please enter the SMTP password for
[EMAIL PROTECTED] on host smtp.gmail.com"

Then there is an option to check a box that says:

"Remember this password for the remainder of the session."

If I check that box, Evolution will remember the password for future
sent emails until I exit and relaunch Evolution then it doesn't remember
it. All inbound emails remembers the password and under Evolutions
editor account, I have selected "remember password" under the Sending
Email tab, yet it doesn't remember.

Evolution 2.24.0
Ubuntu release 8.10 (intrepid)
Kernel Linux 2.6.27-7-generic
