[Bug 216358] Re: Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid
Steve, this could not be normal - in /etc/security/limits.conf there is no limit configured, and I dont know, but could it be unlimited as default in Ubuntuty Hardy ? Commenting out panic-action does not solve the problem, because it only prevents the mail and not the action. smbd still crashes and the users got the windows messages that their network drives are not available. Just a few minuts ago I had crashes after crashes and have to shut down samba and restart it, so I commented out the panic action but it smbs still crashes. Memtest shows now error with the memory and the rest of the system is running fine. There is still this strange samba behavior. -- Samba crashes repeatedly to assert_uid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 278927] [NEW] hardy incomplete shutdown no power off Intel 82801G NEC Versa
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron Probably similar to some other bugs already reported after approx 2.6.19-xx computer do not power off after shutting down. The reason for posting a new bug is that after trying every possible fix, found through launchpad or google, the problem is still continuing. Bug fixes tried range from disabling Network Manager (due to error messages shown as part of shutdown) to trying the newer 2.6.27 kernel from Intrepid. Problem description is that with splash screen on the shutdown continues normally until progress bar is cleared, hard drive turned off en then get stuck. Have to be turned of by holding down power button of the laptop. Text messages show that at the end of shutdown procedure it runs until Power Down message is shown. One thing that is somewhat different to similar bug reports is that on Hibernate the computer freezes before completing the power off. But every Shutdown after coming out of Hibernate is successful in powering off the machine. I feel as if this should be a strong hint as to the source of the problem but my experience is far to limited to find it. It should probably be mentioned that due to the fact that this laptop is based heavily on Intel components (Intel motherboard 82801G and graphics controller Intel 945) I had a hard time getting the system up and running initially with Hardy (mostly graphics card related). Please let me know about any further information I can provide. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- hardy incomplete shutdown no power off Intel 82801G NEC Versa https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/278927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: I’m running intrepid, opensync 0.22-2, opensync-plugin-gnokii 0.22-1, libgnokii3 0.6.26.dfsg-2. [Bug 258486] Re: X fall in failsafe mode after install if nvidia restricted drivers are installed during LiveCD session in intrepid
Two options here: - Fix the nvidia-glx-* packages to auto-rebuild the drivers on boot; this is already the way it is *supposed* to work, right Alberto? - Fix the casper hook to also copy the generated .ko files. [Bug 278907] Re: evince print dialog doesn't make it clear how to do a page range
Hello, I don't think it's a good idea to replace this text field by one, because it removes the possibility to print several ranges at once, separated by commas. Example: 1-3,87-88 will print pages 1,2,3 and 87,88 That's a feature I actually use a _lot_. What we need here is a descriptive textbox above the current textfield giving an example. Like "1-3,87-88 will print pages 1,2,3 and 87,88". And BTW, I'm not sure this bug should be linked to evince. Isn't the print dialog a shared GNOME component? Does somebody know where it's from? [Bug 276518] Re: Xorg hangs due to EQ overflowing when EXA enabled
I'm the user who originally reported the bug in the forums. I was going to log a bug myself, but someone beat me to it ... unfortunately getting some important details wrong. This bug most certainly also affects XAA ( which I did clearly note in the forums ). Could someone PLEASE at least rename this bug and remove the 'with EXA enabled' bit. Alternatively I can enter a separate bug for the default ( XAA ) case. > I declined the Intrepid task since we do not ship EXA turned on by default, due to concerns about bugs like this one. Frankly I'm a bit perplexed at this comment. Consensus with the radeon developers is that EXA is more stable than XAA at this point, fixing some lockups when starting some OpenGL apps, amongst other things. I have used EXA on my Radeon for at least a year. Anyway ... I'm not too concerned about Ubuntu not 'supporting' EXA at this point ... but I am concerned that I can't start X without DRI disabled. So I've done some 'git bisect' work with xf86-video-ati. I went back a couple of months. Note that I've been running 'git current' of xserver, mesa, and friends on Gentoo for the past couple of years ( yeah, cvs current before the git migration ). Anyway, I *can't* find a particular point in the xf86-video-ati history that broke things. ie I don't think the issue is in xf86-video-ati. I have also git-bisected libdrm and the radeon module, back as far as I can actually build things. No luck here either. Now I'm building a 2.6.26 kernel. If this doesn't work out, then I'm betting the problem is in xserver. I will of course report any successes I have. But in the meantime, someone please rename this bug. ** Attachment added: "XAA lockup log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18250379/Xorg_xaa.0.log -- Xorg hangs due to EQ overflowing when EXA enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/276518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

(LP: #273320) [Alberto] - Use a "refresh" icon for drivers where a reboot needs to happen. (LP: #272238) [Alberto] - Fix KDE notification and the related test. Work around segfault when exiting the KDE UI. (LP: #270522) [Alberto] - search_driver(): Return list of installed files in addition to status code. Document the return value in README.txt. (LP: #269311) - Converts search_driver() printer device ID to friendly string (only supports printers for now). (part of LP #269454) - Do not make a backup of xorg.conf if the proprietary driver is already set there, so that we don't automatically revert to a configuration with the proprietary driver after uninstalling exactly that. [Bug 278935] [NEW] Intrepid beta shows a regression in ACE active timers
Public bug reported: When adapting a simple example code from "The ACE Programmer's Guide" related to active timers (see attached source code), I observe a regression in Ubuntu Intrepid Beta. Such code has been working correctly for years in Ubuntu with libace-5.4.7. The recent upgrade to libace-5.6.3 seems to explain the regression. The code example runs a 10 ms timer during 1 second and counts the timeouts. Compiling and linking against an old libace-5.4.7 leads to 100, the correct value. Compiling and linking against the default libace-5.6.3 leads to around 50, a big error. Using bigger periods (100 ms) does not show the problem. Using periods smaller than 10 ms make the problem even worse. Both were as they should be. Now I am using Kubuntu 8.04.1 -i386 on K9AMG (ATI RS485/SB600) with Athlon64 3800+ which is intended to be my working machine. There was no complication at all. Actually the machine got ready as soon as Kubuntu was installed without any manual adjustment. I also upgraded on MSI4AM-LSR with Athlon XP 2500+ which was my previous working machine, from Ubuntu 7.04 through 7.10 to 8.04.1. Here I got, alas, a resolution problem which I cannot fix by changing xorg.conf time and again. One thing I intend to try is to connect my cockpit (keyboard, monitor and mouse) directly to computers. I am using KVM swich box and I suddenly remember that I had resolution problem when I used KVM on installing Ubuntu 7.04 to MSI4M-LSR. KVM may not be the cause of the current problem but maybe a miracle. I still maintain that just a line or two of setting of Ubuntu and Kubuntu may be the cause of difference. Oops, wrong bug. This is actually wontfix in jockey. We do need to know OS vendor and version. Falling back to reading /etc/lsb-release would be faster, but use a non-standardized interface. What should *really* happen is to replace the /usr/bin/lsb_release implementation with something much faster. [Bug 278911] Re: "Segmentation fault" error
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Once you have done this, repeat the steps necessary to recreate the problem. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. [Bug 270108] Re: [Intrepid] Can't install nvidia driver (xorg.conf is invalid)
Can you please attach your /etc/X11/xorg.conf? Jockey is right in not trying to mess with an already invalid xorg.conf any further, since there is no chance we can get it fixed again without totally throwing away the user's configuration. How did it get broken in the first place? Of course the file might actually be valid, and jockey just fails to parse it. That's why I'm interested in seeing your version. I run only LTS releases on the server, it currently runs 8.04. I did not see this message in the logs for some time now.
