[Bug 268931] Re: Please backport ufw 0.22 from intrepid

2008-10-01 Thread Didier Roche
Yes Michael,

There is no really problem for ufw, but its dependency, iptables, is very
difficult to test.
I have personnaly no issue here running with it, but a larger group of people
would be better as this latter has a lot of reverse dependencies, and so,
potentially conflicting version…

[Bug 239597] Re: HDA Intel Record off on restart (LG P1)

2008-10-01 Thread Mikems
I have tested my recording again via the Intrepid Alpha 5 Live CD. I
burnt a disk, rebooted, ran the disk's self-check, the disk was error-
free, booted using the first option into the desktop, and neither
playback nor recording was working. I then went and followed the
instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCDCustomization to
customize the .iso, and modify /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base (I will include
the modified version below).

With the modifications, sound playback then worked on the LiveCD, but
sound recording with my Internal Mic, Mic, or Line would not. When
attempting to run 'arecord', it simply generates garbled text, and
seems as if no audio is received into the system. Oddly enough, I can
hear things being recorded, looped back through my internal and external
speakers, but when attempting to record sound, and then have it played
back, there is only silence, as if it's not storing the audio data in
memory, to be played back.

[Bug 276642] [NEW] (maybe) a small error in /etc/default/acpi-support

2008-10-01 Thread lokster
Public bug reported:

I think that the SUSPEND_METHODS value in /etc/default/acpi-support must be
surrounded by double quotes.
Currently it is
 SUSPEND_METHODS=dbus-pm dbus-hal pm-utils
and when I run
 sudo /etc/init.d/laptop-mode restart
I get an error saying "/etc/default/acpi-support: 59: dbus-hal: not found"
When I change it to
 SUSPEND_METHODS="dbus-pm dbus-hal pm-utils"
the error no longer appears.

I am with Ubuntu 8.10 and acpi-support 0.112.

I was using DVD::RIP and it was working just fine some time ago (didn't

but I seem I can't use them.

Has anything happen lately with dvd:RIP/transcode/ffmpeg?

[Bug 19033] Re: systemwide default startup homepage ignored

2008-10-01 Thread Philippe Seewer
Yes, the current firefox directory layout is a bit cluttered up.

Anyway, step by step instructions for fully updated 8.04.1 as of this
date:

1. create file mozilla.txt with the following contents
//
pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://www.launchpad.net";);

2. Convert mozilla.txt to mozilla.cfg by using
http://www.alain.knaff.lu/~aknaff/howto/MozillaCustomization/cgi/byteshf.cgi

3. Close all firefox instances

4. Edit/Create /etc/xulrunner-1.9/system-grepref.js and add
pref("general.config.filename", "mozilla.cfg");

5. Copy the file mozilla.cfg to /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.3

6. Start firefox, the default homepage should now be
http://www.launchpad.net

[Bug 237156] Re: SETRANS + libavg = SIGSEGV on Hardy

2008-10-01 Thread Filippo Argiolas
I confirm that this issue has nothing to do with libavg, I'm experiencing it
with gst-inspect too.
The sigsegv happens in fini_contex_translations function (setrans_client.c)
because it free a couple of uninitialized contexts.
Mike's patch doesn't seem to solve the issue here (current intrepid) though, it
makes it crash on init function.. Removing __thread keywords from contexts
initialization seems to do the trick but I doubt it's the right fix.
Is there an upstream tracker to report the issue?

[Bug 113092] Re: nautilus in feisty can't open http:// URI which affects service-discovery-applet

2008-10-01 Thread Franck
Using xdg-open is not only simplier, but also better, as it will use the

This was already suggested using gnome-open, but as I understand it,
xdg-open is the freedesktop standard replacement for gnome-open. It was
never applied, but I think it should !

[Bug 276649] [NEW] Wifi issue with kernel updates 2.6.24-20 et +

Public bug reported:

Since kernel updates 2.6.24-20 et +, I can't set the ATMEL USB driver

I can scan frequencies and find wifi spots but I can't connect to my wifi box

[Bug 276646] Re: Evolution is not synching properly with Google Calendar

2008-10-01 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

not that I knew.

ffmpeg could in theory link against x264, but we cannot do so in ubuntu,
because x264 is in multiverse whereas ffmpeg is in main.

if ffmpeg could load x264 at runtime instead of at load time then we
could enable it. promoting x264 is a no-go, IMO.

The hard disk usage graph in the System Monitor panel applet constantly
displays 0% activity, even during intervals of heavy disk access. This
graph worked correctly under Hardy Heron. I am using two 500GB SATA

Steps to reproduce:

[Bug 273021] Re: Intrepid: KM2530DL Printing Errors

2008-10-01 Thread lord_alan
OK - I ran a couple of test prints from Intrepid and it is certainly
much better :-)

If, however I try to print the same contents (select pages 1-2 in the
print dialogue) of the Firefox browser from the URL I posted in the
original report, I do not get any errors on the printer, it does not
create a first blank page, but, the second page is still corrupted with
the "wrapped text" issue.

I also printed a couple of pages of a manual from Envince twice. The
first time round the print output itself was fine, but I think I got an
extra blank page so I tried again. The second time it wouldn't print at
all - an error dialogue popped up saying (IIRC) "Failed to Print: Too
many printing errors" or something similar. Printing the same pages from
within Adobe Acrobat Reader was perfectly fine however.

So, my conclusion is that it seems a great deal improved from the last
time I tried but I am not sure if it is completely fixed - or if the
remaining problems are more to do with the content or rendering
applications. The URL test especially; as the printed output has exactly
the same errors as in my original post I wonder if there is a bug in
Firefox or something...

I have attached the output of printingbuginfo.

Thanks for looking into this and I hope all this is of some help.

I wanted to send a word processor file to several contacts and tried to use the
import wizard. (Mail Merge). When I tried to use the address book or add my

Is this what you want?

No, I can't. Actually, I've tried:

and it didn't work (after logging out).
Starting gnome-splashscreen-manager from terminal does not return errors, so I

[Bug 276654] [NEW] cpu speed doesn't adjust to cpu power management when ac-power is plugged in or plugged out

2008-10-01 Thread marco.pallotta
Public bug reported:

When I connect the ac power in my laptop (sony vaio vgn fs415M and Hardy x86)
my cpu speed doesn't adjust to cpu power management settings (power management
preferences -> on ac power -> computer speed policy -> always maximum speed),
that is to maximum speed but still remains to "based on processor load" as it
shouldn't have ac-power plugged in (but the battery icon in the status bar
changed indicating that is in charging state, so the ac-power was detected).
However if I reboot the system with ac-power plugged-in the cpu is at correct
speed (that is at maximum speed).
I see cpu speed with "cpu frequency scaling monitor" applet (version 2.22.2) or
with "cat /proc/acpuinfo"
The same thing happens if I am in the contrary situation (that is I start with
ac-power plugged in and then I plugged out ac-power and my cpu freq is always
at maximum speed).

I say first that I enabled "computer speed policy" option in power
management preferences via gconf-editor as the gui hasn't this option
from default (I think this is a thing to fix in next distros as well as
in Hardy)

could you open the request on bugzilla.gnome.org where the people
writting the software will read? that would be better than to discuss
with ubuntu bug triagers

Thanks for reporting this package suggestion and any supporting
documentation. Since this report has enough information provided for a
packager to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them
handle it from here. Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better!

[Bug 187878] Re: firefox-3.0 crashed with SIGSEGV in IA__gtk_widget_queue_draw_area

2008-10-01 Thread MartinB
Like said earlier:
Run firefox 3, did a bit of browsing then left it open in the background.
Whilst working in CompizConfig Settings, switched back to firefox, then it
crashed.
Cannot reproduce unfortunately.

Hint: System originally at Ubuntu version 6.xx (04?), added Beryl in
7.xx and the system feels a bit "dirty" at the moment whith X crashing
every time i login into X first time, second time it always works.

Made Compiz work whith blanking out LD_LIBRARY_PATH.

[Bug 180918] Re: .. in a symlinked directory is not what I expected

2008-10-01 Thread Nicolò Chieffo
Sorry but this is confusing!
I want ls, cp, mv to behave exactly like cd!

Anyway I tested it now and it seems that ls cp and mv behave like cd. So there
was a bug before that has been fixed

[Bug 276656] [NEW] It's possible to install to the device the installation files reside on.

2008-10-01 Thread Evan Dandrea
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: partman-base

As it stands, if you create a USB disk with the desktop CD or alternate
CD on it, partman will let you try to install to /dev/sda or whatever
the USB disk may be. This ends poorly.

Attached is a patch that attempts to fix this by filtering out the
device mounted on /cdrom or /hd-media, using code from grub-installer to
determine the parent block device.

Colin, I would very much appreciate it if you reviewed this patch as
while I've tried to consider every possibility, I imagine an extra set
of eyes may find a flaw in this design.
